Hi, I'm a bit of a newbie to XDA, but I came across a problem which I browsed the forums and the internet for a few hours to solve to no avail. A few days ago I made a call to one of my friends who apparently couldn't hear anything from my side. I checked this over and restarted my phone a few times to see if that would fix it. Unfortunately the problem persisted, and when I tried to record any audio, all I would hear from the playback is noise. I assumed that it was a faulty flash of Trigger v2.8, but ODIN'ing back to stock didn't seem to fix the problem. I use the phone in Canada, and won't be visiting the US anytime soon, so I can't go to a T-Mobile booth to get it checked out. Is there anything I can do? Any help is greatly appreciated.
check settings and make sure you do not have anything off, that could happen, But if you can't resolve find a compatible kernel for your ROM and try flashing that. That usually will fix most problems.
Good luck
Thanks for the help, but I was unable to fix the problem using these methods. I'm starting to believe it is indeed a hardware problem, but I would want to receive some more input and where I should take it to be fixed if that's the case.
Ok, so I got my TB in sep and tried to root it, everything seems to go alright, but I found out that if I call somebody (or they me) they can't hear me speak to them at all. After rebooting the phone and calling them back was I able to talk to them. I've checked the voice input while the phone was acting up and I can use speech commands fine, but for some reason people couldn't hear me in call.
Eventually I got frustrated and unrooted it, and the phone worked like new.
I've recently rooted it again and it's having the same problems as before. I'm pretty sure I'm using the right radios (they came with the rom i'm using: InfectedRom airborne)
If anyone has any ideas what could be casuing this let me know, I'd appreciate it.

Hi All,
Ive had my SG3 about 3 weeks now and have had an issue twice, that im not sure is my fault or not if im pressing something,
Basically I make a phone call and people cannot hear me, I havent thought until now to check the settings when it happens, but I know its not on mute.
Its happened twice out of about 300-400 calls, 1st time I had to reboot the phone for it to fix as I tested a call after and it still failed, the 2nd time which was last night as soon as I hung up and made another call it worked.
Just wanted to see if anyone had seen this?
happened to me too. I never had to reboot the phone just hang up and call again. after I updated to jellybean the problem didn't occur so often.
Thread moved to proper forum.
I'm needing some help yall. Before I get started, I've done extensive research and reading on this and have tried many things to fix the problem I am having. I've posted for help in other places ( and so have many others ) but no response.
The problem I am having is that other than one 4.2.2 custom rom, any other rom I try 4.3 or 4.4 will not allow me to end phone calls. This is NOT due to the proximity sensor in my case. When I start a phone call, I can press end. The phone says "hanging up", but doesnt actually hang up. The phone call keeps going! Either have to toggle on airplane more or pull the battery to end the call.
I have a Verizon S4 with T-Mobile service, running LTE perfectly with the latest MJ7 modem.
My question to all of you is, could this be a modem related issue? I've tried MDK and MK2, but the hanging up issue is still there. Could this be a kernel issue or something else?
Any help would greatly be appreciated! BTW, I wrote a tutorial on how to do 4.2.2 with LTE for Verizon phones with T-Mobile service if anyone needs it or if it helps to explain my problem (not sure it will). http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2560128
Thank you for any help you can give.

Under settings -> more -> Axxessibility -> Answering/ending call is the option to use power button to end calls. Ever try that option? I know it doesnt solve the problem, but its a better fix than pulling the battery every call. If that doesnt i would say get them to warranty it
I've tried this

Thanks for your response. I've tried this before but it doesn't work. I know its related to the way the roms are built and with me using a verizon phone with tmobile service... just have figured out where in the builds is causing the problem.
My mom's S4 has been a good little workhorse for a year now, but recently it's started acting bizarrely. At random, when she dials, nothing will happen. It will say dialing, the call timer will start, but she can't hear a ringing tone, the caller, and the caller can't hear her. I've looked this up, and it seems to be a common enough problem for S4 users, with no solution that I've been able to find. I've tried to see if something is jamming the headphone slot, but nothing is in there. The only way we can get calls to work again is to reboot the phone, and that works only around half the time.
At the same time, any time this problem is present, Wifi won't auto-connect, or connect at all. It will recognize the hotspots around us, but it just marks them as "saved". If I try to connect, it attempts it, then reverts back to saved. This fixes itself after the reboot as well.
Does anyone know what's going on? Is this a hardware problem that I'll need to replace the handset because of? Will a factory wipe or a ROM fix this? I've been wanting to try a clean, easy ROM for her, so maybe this is the time? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
On the subject, any suggestions for ROMs? The Google Play Edition one looked nice, but I didn't know if that came with any significant down sides for her. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a factory data reset is long over due. It should fix any issues thats been going on. If not I would take it into Verizon to get looked at, or call to get a replacement.
