An Idea On Fingerprints And Cases - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone tried deleting the stored fingerprint, then redoing the setup with the case on? I'm wondering if this will resolve the issue. I don't think the scanner is reading your fingerprint only, but also measuring resistance between the metal circle around the reader and the black reader circle and the rest of your body. If you are holding on to the metal rails while setting up your fingerprint, that value may be different than what it is with a non-conductive case on.
Just an idea. I don't have a case to test with yet, but will in a few days.

Yes, it has been tried by severe people.

Yep it wont even register that your finger ever touches the fingerprint scanner, so either its limited to T-Mobile phones or other people are lying/have a charger or headphones plugged in when they claim it "works"

Got it, hadn't seen that so thought it might be worth a shot.

Yes, that was me first day. Didn't realize it at the time, but next day it didn't work.

[Q] I love this phone, but I'm about to throw it into a ditch and set it alight.

Why is it that the EVO and EVO 3D just @#$%^&% love to turn themselves on and unlock themselves in my pockets? Isn't the proximity sensor supposed to let the OS know the thing is in my damned pocket?
For some reason it seems to like my Levi's more than any other pockets. When I wear dress slacks it's not quite too quick to wake and play.
I'm becoming severely tired of being reminded that I didn't put the phone in my pocket screen-side out by the fact that my leg is about 150-degrees, only to pull the phone out of my pocket and find that I'm about 40 over par in a game of golf.
What the hell?!?!?!?
Sounds like a defect.... Try makei.g sure the power button is face up? If u have volume buttons set to wake ur screen unset them?

A defect that both of my EVO 4Gs and my EVO 3D have?
Basically if anything presses the power button or wakes the screen when it's facing my leg, the simple fact that there's a capacitive transfer between my leg and the screen through a few layers of cloth can cause it to slide unlocked. (try unlocking it with your finger through your shirt, for example, it works just fine.)
If I put more security on the lock, it stays locked, but that's beside the point. The phone/OS should KNOW it's in a pocket and disallow that action altogether.
Well it doesn't... Touch screens work on heat, and the proximity sensor only seems to shut the screen off in q phone call.
I have never really had this problem(it happens once in a blue) that's y I thought it may be defective, it sounds like your best bet is the lock, that said I always have my phone in a otter box, dunno if it helps...
Sent from my PG8610000 using Xparent Red Tapatalk
Just put a passcode on it, it's not too much of a problem then. Of course, you'd lose a little battery life but not so much as when you find out you're half way through Tiger Woods' new game.

Touch screens to not work on heat. A capacitive screen only needs a conductive surface to work. Just an FYI.
Actually its both heat is for fine tuneing and
Conductivity is big movement, try useing a nickel it will follow the motion well but be choppy now heat said nickel n chop is gone
Ps pennys don't work at all what's up with that

Install leedroid tweaks, set you screen button to something like the camera button, never complain again.

Really??? I would love to see any kind of technical sheet showing that a capacitive screen uses heat in any way shape or form to do anything. If I am wrong, I will not edit my post to change what I said (like you did) but will post a public apology to you stating that I was wrong.

Also, I have the same issue that the OP has, once in a while, I will take my phone out of my front pocket of my khakis and I will have 5 apps open and a call open to my wife or something of that nature. I have learned to face the screen out instead of in which seems to help (if I remember to actually do it).
I edited it because I first tried it with a penny and it did not work at all then I tried it with a quarter and it worked and was very choppy like it was wasnt touching it properly then I heated the quarter and it worked fine. I don't no y this did this but it did...
I was wrong at first, because o thought it was all heat, and I did say that, but I was also posting what I had figured out, that's all.

No biggie...I think I might try the quarter trick to see if maybe a heated quarter has better conductive properties as an experiment becuase I am really bored.
Also an heat senseing touch screen does exist and here is the spec sheet (although deffinatly an inferior technology I new I had seen it somewhere...)

I prefer to keep mine on a holster. Alot of folks put there phone in there back pocket and forget and sit down on it and there ass bone smashs the glass lol.
Anyway's pocket carry shouldn't be turning ur phone on lmao.
I would try another rom or kernel if no luck and you try a stock kernel and rom and still have issues take the sucker back to sprint.
Just put a otterbox commuter case on it. Its a 2 part case soft rubber skin and a hardshell over it. You gotta put a little more effort in pressing the buttons, it never comes on in my pocket, I even got the volume buttons set to wake.

+1 NICE!! EXACT SAME THING happens to me! If I put the lock pattern on it, it stays locked but then the emergency calling gets activated! LOL!
I've never had this happen.. and I purposefully make sure to face the screen of my phone towards my leg, as I managed to break a screen with it facing out and something poked into it. had it been facing my leg it would've been fine.
Did u read????? cuz it deffinatly has a heat senseing touch pad such is the exact thingy wanted to c....

Yeah, I am going to just stop arguing with you as you are a little out of your league on this one and it is way off topic from the OP. If you want to continue our debate on this, I am more than willing if you create a new thread.

Quick glance?

I have motion enabled and quick glance enabled but cannot get the screen to light up by reaching for my phone or placing my hand over phone. Is there a trick to this? Anyone have this working?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
Mine only works when the phone is lying down flat... like on a desk or table. Oh and hand needs be over the proximity sensor.
Thanks for that. I got it working. It needs to be flat like you said. Pretty cool.
I've played with this feature and it's kinda ok I guess lol. But most of the time if I want to quickly check, my phone is sitting next to my recliner on a table. Since the phone has to be flat, it's rather useless if your table and recliner are at relatively the same height. You can't really see the screen unless you tilt the phone... Which makes the feature kind of moot.
I still like it though...

I actually use the app called smart screen on. Its similar in that it uses the proximity sensor to wake the screen up.

Busted screen

I dropped my Note 2 right on the face and broke the glass. The top right corner looks like a spider web with a few cracks stretching to the bottom. The display still works though . I plan to get a new glass and replace it myself. I've found quite a bit of info on how to do it.
My only question is this. When I last made a call with it the screen wouldn't come back on when I pulled it away from my face. I'm hoping it's just because of the cracks that run right across the 2 sensors at the top. Do you think it could be that or do you think maybe one of the sensors broke when it fell.
I sure don't want to have to replace the whole lcd unit. That's about $250 while the glass is about $20.

Hey thanks Luke. It's good to see you again. I'm actually using my Charge again for calls and texts. I find I've gotten really spoiled by my Note. The old phone feels clunky and slow.
Thanks for the good info. I'll definitely look for that when I take the busted screen off. It'll take a few days to get the parts. Wish me luck. I think I'm gonna need it. It looks like a hard job.

Another question. I'd like to be able to make the display stay on when I'm holding it up to my ear. Does anyone know a way to do that? I'd really like to use my Note even though the screen is broken. I don't like my Charge any more because it's too small.

Open the phone to the dialer. Hit the menu touch button then call settings. Un check auto off during call. The setting even says turn off proximity sensor.

Thanks. I can't believe I never noticed that. Now I can use it til I can fix the screen. Just waiting for parts.

small crack with resolution prob.
I have a small crack in upper right of screen & now my sharp color is gone. It is now very dull almost like I used a photo app & added an overlay to it. Need some advice
Well I got my parts and got the tools I needed to fix my screen. The problem was I got the wrong type plastic razor blades. I got scraper blades instead. I tried it anyway and ended ripping my LCD screen. Now it's costed an extra $ 200+ for a LCD Digitizer assembly. Hopefully the next day delivery will still work even though yesterday was a holiday and the post offices were closed.
Anyway, what I'm leading up to is don't try this if everything isn't kosher. It's a tricky job.
Update: I found out they won't even ship it til Monday. I guess I don't get it back this weekend. I really don't like my old Charge after using my Note all these months.

Small "smudge" UNDER screen glass

I've had my S4 for about 2 weeks and just started to notice it has what looks like a small 'smudge' UNDER the glass. It kind of looks like a finger smudge on top of the glass, I actually tried the clean for about 15 minutes before I realized it was under the glass. I can't see it when the screen is on, only when it's off and I hold it a certain angles. It's not a big enough deal for me to return it, but if it's a sign of worse things to come, maybe I should? Also, don't know if it's related, but I can also tell my screen isn't exactly flat. This also can only be seen at certain angles, looks fine when using the phone. Should I worry about it or what do you think?
Just return it for another unit, unless you want to be stuck with this flaw for another two years or so, and from the looks of it seems to be bothering you, so why not just return it and have them issue you another device.
Duh!

Sell it to someone who won't notice. Then get the dev edition. Or just replace it

How bad is your fingerprint reader?

I'm getting tired of touching this thing three, four, or even five or more times to log in.
Is anyone else having a similar experience? AT&T phone, latest software, no case. It's just not reliable. I frequently get in on one press, but at least a couple times an hour I have to press more than once. It can be a real nuisance.
MM fixes the FP issue. Mine works flawless every time and i'm using an Otterbox Defender Case With a Tempered Glass Screen Protector.
Delete your original fingerprint scans and re-do them
Sent from an AT&T LG V10
Marshmallow fixed my fp scanner it is 100% smoother than lollipop
Delete all your fingerprints and add new. It helps a lot. I did it yesterday and now almost always it unlocks after first try.
Bummer, I've done all that. I wonder if mine is just a lemon.
It works like 95%+ accurate
"95% accurate" means it misses one out of twenty times. For most users, that would be at least once every couple of hours, probably more like once an hour.
How often does your FP reader fail to recognize your finger?
Before marshmallow it was compete crap in fact I cut a section of my case to get contact with the metal sides to get it to work. With the marshmallow update it works fine without having to touch the sides. Recalibrate your finger sensor again, delete the old ones.
You may also want to try a factory reset, I know it's extreme but there is a tendency for it to fix a lot of hiccups.
Last do an exchange if you can.
You're positive you have marshmallow installed?
Sent from my LG-H901 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Mine works 98% of the time.. Register 3 finger prints of the same finger at different angles
Sent from my Lenovo X3a40 using Tapatalk
Yes, it's Marshmallow, latest update. I don't expect a reset to make a difference, but AT&T would probably require it before doing an exchange. I'll ask them.
Are you guys saying you go entire days without ever getting "Try again" from the phone?
Since marshmallow yes it has been flawless. I would totally look into getting an exchange at this point.
