Does Installing TWRP Automatically Stop T-MOBILE Forced Updates - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

With the G4 there were several mods and suggestions to stop T-Mobile from doing forced updates. There seem to be none of those threads for the V10. Is thst because TWRP and root cane so fast?

If you have a custom recovery them any OTA will not install. The OTA needs the factory recovery to install. Aslo, use TB or any other root browser app and freeze, uninstall or rename any FOTA apps, this should disable any updates

The OTA ICS update is already live, but you cannot update if your phone is rooted.
Having root doesn't affect the download of the OTA update. You can wait for it to notify you, or you can go to Settings -> Device Info -> System Updates to start the download. Having root, you can save the update .zip and .crc files from /cache and put them on your SD Card which is useful for some update methods.
Root and things you can do with root affect whether the update works or not. Installing Busybox in /system/bin, installing bootstrap or safestrap, installing a custom recovery, and who knows what else can prevent the update from completing properly. The guides often recommend wiping the phone with Matt's Droid Razr Utility 1.6 (maybe modified) or 1.7.

Keep losing Root Access

I tried to post this question in the Development threads but i wasnt allowed to and was referred here instead.
I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted my phone per the thread and the video that has been posted. For some reason every time i try to update my binaries the phone crashes and reboots with SuperSU. If i don't attempt to update the binaries the phone works and i see some apps requesting root access as normal, however, out of the blue the phone just loses root access and i have to go through a few hoops to get it back only to lose it again at some point.
I have tried to uninstall SuperSu but since its in system i cant remove it. I have tried Root Uninstalled but SuperSU keeps coming back.
I have tried to disable SuperSU and Install SuperUser from the playstore..but that doesnt seem to work either. SuperUser also seems to crash and reboot the phone during binary updates.
Any help would be appreciated.
You can't update the binaries from within the app iirc.

I've had the same issue. I had to flash a rom with superuser preinstalled and that fixed it for me.
U should be able to uninstall supersu. I was able to.then flashed superuser

[Q] Anything like Safestrap for SGN2?

I used Safestrap on my Moto Bionic and would like to find a similar app that will make a complete recoverable backup of my device. I don't want anything that requires an unlocked bootloader due to the problems with OTAs. I don't use any custom ROMs, I just like to install MODs to the UI. My phone is already rooted VIA flashing the rooted image and OTA rootkeeper to update. I would like to try the MOD to add apps to the multi window drawer and fix autocomplete. It seems that it's not just as simple as replacing apks so I'd like a good backup/recovery solution in place before getting stuck in a bootloop. I could just reflash with odin but I'd rather backup the current state.
No there's nothing like safe strap. If you took the ota update then you have no choice but to use Adams unlock method to root which installs a recovery. Otherwise the only mod you listed is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34994272 for adding all apps 5o multi Window.
Why wouldn't you want team win recovery? If you're concerned with ota problems just freeze "SDM" after you gain root access. Then the phone won't automatically update.

there is no safestrap bull**** on a sammy device as mentioned above. root, unlock, recovery, then you can make all the back ups you wish. i would like somebody to give me a logical reason why they would want to take a OTA update? i flash all my updates via recovery provided by our gracious devs. PHUCK a OTA!!!
safestrap is not great and sucks. The only thing I liked about safestrap is that you can have 3 different ROMS to play with and boot up real fast. Use clockwork and you should be okay. Once you get clockwork or TWRP make your back up and you are set.

[Q] Removing Custom Recovery?

Hey everyone,
I'm trying to update my phone with the latest T-mobile OTA update (I'm on v20F and I think the update is v20H), but every time I try to install it I get a dead android screen and my phone restarts with no update. I think this is because of the custom recovery that I have installed. How do I remove the custom recovery so that I can install the update? Is there away to update without removing custom recovery (and without losing all of my data)?
I'm using Voodoo root keeper so that I can keep root after the update.
Thanks!
Bump, I'm still unable to update, and I'd like to!
You can't get the update because you have deleted apps from the system.

So I just have to reinstall the bloatware apps and then I'll be able to update?
Yes just re-install the bloatware and that should do the trick.
But i would recommend Kuma's themed Stock ROM for locked bootloaders.
It's using the latest update.
You can't install OTAs if system has been modified, is to say, if you have root access, you won't be able to install the OTA.
A way to install the latest version of the stock Rom is to use the the LG update tool for PC. So, you don't lose your data and system's modifications don't mind.

at&t d800 10d recovery image

just wanted to share the original recovery image that came with the phone for anyone that is trying to get the update but dont want to have to restore their phone with kdz/tot file. just push this image to your device via adb. if you have supersu as your root, in the options of supersu you can do a clean uninstall and completely get rid of root with it. then take the OTA update so you dont have any problems with the update. or if you want to keep root you dont have to uninstall it. it seems after the 4.4.2 update, root is still there. enjoy.

I'm assuming we would push this using ADB? Is there a quick guide for that? I haven't manually installed a recovery in forever.
Are you sure your root was still working after the update? On every other device I have updated to Kitkat, the Superuser app was still there, but you couldn't update the binaries. Something changed with 4.4 that makes the old root method not work. Apparently, Superuser has to be flashed every single time you update from 4.4 on. At lest, that's what I read when I was updating my Nexus and Moto X.
