finger print issue with a case - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know that this has been identified as an issue, however, the information I read said to simply readd your fingerprints with the case on. I ordered the incipio case from tmobile and it will not even register one attempt at a finger print.
Has there been any information on if this will be resolved via a software update? I have dropped the phone twice already and I really am not comfortable without a case.

I have a spigen case on mine and I have 0 issues with my finger print sensor. I'm on Tmobile

Can anyone else speak about this case? I am pretty frustrated... I need to use the finger print scanner and I am considering trading this phone in for one without this issue

I was thinking if getting that. Can u post any pics of it? Been eyeing it but haven't seen anyone post it yet.

Just as an FYI in case anyone here hasn't seen it yet. AT&T users are reporting an update they received which seems to have fixed the fingerprint scanner/case issues. Doesn't help those of us on T-Mobile but at least gives hope that it can be fixed with an update.

I have that Spigen rugged armor case on mine and the fingerprint sensor doesn't work but every once in awhile with it on unless its plugged in and charging. Take the case off and its perfect, put it back on and nothing.

Yes I ahve one from T Mobile, and has the same problem, I fixed the problem, without CASE, the problem is that you need to stay in contact with the metallic edges.
Try it,
I hope the update will come soon.

i have no problem using the finger print with the OBLIQ case

this has EVERYTHING to do with the metal sides..... if I do not touch the metal sides my finger print scanner will NEVER work. How could you say that this is crazy? While it is not consistent with all phones, those phones that suffer from this problem do require the metal sides to be touched.
edit,
even without a case on the phone, if I touch only the back and not the side I cannot unlock it.

Then explain this... Why are there some of us that don't have to touch the metal to use it.

And furthmore if this was the case (no pun intended) a software update wouldn't fix the issue if it's hardware related.

I don't even have to explain that to prove you wrong,
the simple fact that my phone in my hands will never let me unlock or even add a finger print unless the sides are touched proves my point. My point proven negates yours.
I have no idea why some phones are not having the issue; but Christ, how can you say that it is not an issue because you don't have the problem?
Shall I create a video showing this? Even further, any piece of CONDUCTIVE material will let the scanner work. If I use tinfoil to touch the side and then I touch the foil, no problem. All of the cases I have tried are non conductive and thus inhibit the usability of the scanner.

I'm just going to leave this as I agree to dissagree. Bottom line I do not have to touch metal and yet my fps work flawlessly period. I don't have to modify the case and have foil or any other trick. You believe what you do and I'll draw my own conclusions and just be happy ever after...

I have been in contact with SGP on the issue with the proximity sensor and heres a summary of what has been said:
"Hello *********,
We are in the process of creating new design at this moment.
If you want to get replacement with the new design, please check back with us after 7days to see if we have the new inventory.

So if you guys contact SGP (I contacted through Amazon), I'm sure y'all can get a replacement whenever the new design comes out. They were nice enough to send me a replacement with the design flaw, since I went through the original 2 I had trying to make a cutout.
It was good to see a company possibly make changes even though they said that there weren't many customers with the issue.

Yeah I have the Ultra Crystal too, but its super finnicky when the sensor wants to work. I'm super OCD about bubbles and such and I have none in my 3 installations and yet none of the protectors could emulate having a naked screen. Although it will randomly work sometimes, its super annoying to have the screen turn off instantly when making a call and then clicking the power button multiple times to have it turn on and instantly off again. Crossing fingers here!
i have the UC, and i tested the prox by making a call with and without the protector on in the dark. With the protector on it doesn't wake the screen but with it off it does. In a well lit room though it works because the light sensor triggers the screen on in that case, which i tested with my desk lamp, i would make the call then take it away from my face, and it wouldn't turn on until i exposed it to the light so ppl that think their sensor work, maybe try that to make sure.
I ended up making a cutout in my current protector but will contact them about the pack of 2 that i haven't opened yet thanks for the heads up.
Keep us updated I've been holding off on ordering because of this issue.

Any idea how I can get in contact with Peter?
I sent an e-mail to SGP through their website, but they weren't too helpful.
I originally had the matte protector and was having problems so I ordered the ultra crystal through their Amazon store. I'd say it works 3/4 of the time, so still a little annoying.
Through their support on the website, they didn't offer to send me one with the cutout.

How long have you used it for? That stickiness usually goes away after awhile and if you don't want to wait wipe it with a 50/50 rubbing alcohol and water solution.
I just got it today so i guess it will get better with time.

Nexus 9 cracked corner?!

Hi everyone,
I've had my N9 for 6 days and I've already got a cracked corner on the bottom left... I'm really angry as I didn't drop it or anything!!! It most probably happened when placing it on the table or something.. Really annoyed, I thought these screens where durable.. Any advice on repairs??
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Forums
HTC will fix it of courses, but the prices won't be pretty. And Gorilla Glass is strong, but dropping it at the right angle or applying pressure can crack it. Yours might've broke if it was installed incorrectly at the original factory.
"I'd Totally Hug You, If That Was Something I Did"
I'm not sure I'm going to get it repaired, it costs too much but I will try and return it in my 14 day money back guarantee and see what they have to say. I'm really p*ssed though.. I didn't do ANYTHING to it.. All want happened was I literally layed it on the table.. I also JUST ordered a case for it on Sunday... Super mad.. I've only had it 6 days and there are only a hand full in my country so exchanging it will be a real pain.. -_-

Google "screen cracked on its own" and you'll see other users that have experienced it randomly. I'm certain it's related to how the device is assembled, but I'm not sure how the store will respond when you attempt to return it.

Sounds like its just a bit off the corner then... you might try some AUTOMOTIVE WINDSHIELD REPAIR GLUE on it. That repair won't fix a screen that is completely spider cracked, but it might help hold it together or make it less visible. Could even hide the damage ENTIRELY from the store you are returning the thing to.
Personally, I would try the repair, and then decide if I wanted to keep it or try to return it.
Wow, that actually sounds like a really good idea! I would send a pic of the screen but I already took it back (they said they would try and send it for RMA so I said why the hell not) anyway I can always try it when I get it back from them and then try and return it at a different store do you have any links for something like this?? Or where to get it ??

Most moderately large car part and accessory stores should carry stuff like that. It comes in a small tube, and sometimes with an injector syringe. Here in Canada, Canadian Tire does. In the US, discount auto parts, autozone, napa. I don't know what car part retail is like in Prague though, sorry.
To give you an idea;

(the two repair kits, not the silicon)

I'll try and look around is it expensive?? This is the closest pic that I can find of how the crack looks... Do you think it could hide this?

That loctite stuff is what you're looking for.
You may or may not able able to make use of the suction cup thing. What that does, is it basically sucks some air out of the crack, then pushes the glue into it. To be honest, I'm not sure how the vacuum process would even work on a digitizer. You may only want to smear the glue on the surface, let it soak in a bit and UV cure, then razor blade it.

Well, my experience with car windshield repair glue is for repairing car windshields. I'll tell you that on a car windshield, that stuff *massively* reduces the appearance of a chip or crack, and can stop spider cracks from spreading.

my 6P is Warped

While placing my 6P flat on my desk I noticed it isn't siting flat. I can push on the top left corner and it raises the bottom right corner. Anyone else notice any sort of bending / warping? does it with or without case.

I have a SLIGHT warp on the bottom right of the phone. I called Huawei about it and they said it was covered by the manufacturer warranty. In my case it's not really that bad so I have no reason to RMA. But I will should it get worse. So far it hasn't.

Well you might have some luck with that, be very very careful doing that. That's a quick way to get a cracked screen. I know Gorilla Glass has a lot of flex in it and isn't the most brittle thing in the world, but it's still glass. Just my two cents, I haven't had this issue, but I will be keeping an eye on it as well.

That is the main reason I'm thinking of returning mine. My first 6P bent around the power button. My replacement has been fine, I've kept it in the speck case Google sells, but still a phone( metal or not) shouldn't warp from being used or being stored in the front pocket. Should we really be having to un-warp our phones? It's not normal.

If this was the iPhone that bent like this, alot of the android fan boys would be up in arms saying how much apple sucks, but since it's android we are willing to unbend our phones. Doesn't make alot of sense
I know it doesn't.
But comparing the way iPhone bent to Nexus is a bit different. Iphone bent quite badly. To be honest if my screen protector didn't peel on one side when I took my phone out of the pocket I would never thought to check if its bent lol
It does not affect everyday use by any way. Nor you can see it.
Note: it was first couple of hours since protector was applied that's why it peeled. Doesn't happen anymore
Saying that all are like that I meant they all prone to that slight body movement.

This is unacceptable, and we shouldn't be okay with it, or accepting it.
I mean it's a great looking phone, but by no means is the build quailty great. Kinda of like IKEA stuff, looks good, but not really that strong.
i noticed mine had a slight torque to it. it hasn't bothered me enough to do anything about it. i'm thinking one week before the protect expires i'll be buying a $79 N6P.

I'm not saying I have an issue! Nowhere do I say that. The previous 6P I had was bent around the power button, which I took photos of in another thread on this forum. I'm saying that alot of folks are complaining About the softness of the metal , which I have experienced first hand, which is also why I use the speck case now and I'm saying that it's not right that this phone is so soft. Check the other threads and you will see my photos.

Update: part is available but only gold. Little pricey hopefully it goes down when more colors come out. http://www.etradesupply.com/lg-v10-rear-housing-assembly-gold.html
I'm looking for the replacement part for the camera lens and buttons, it's black plate and held in with like 13 screws and it pops out(shown here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7N_mGT-P1ZA ). Seems like a really easy fix for my problem. I've looked and only part I found was screen replacement. Any help much appreciated thank you.
I always put my phone in my pocket by itself, it's never been dropped but when I looked at the camera lens today it's cracked. First time ever that has happened to me with a phone. What are the odds I can get a replacement? I set my phone on a table to charge I just don't get it they show video phone dropping 4ft on the ground and nothing cracks. :/

Unfortunately, this is not generally replaced at no charge. You should talk to your carrier.

Yeah, so much for being a durable phone. Never dropped or anything urgh.
Edit: So looks like the lens and finger buttons are attached to the black plate inside back of the phone which is held in only by like 13 screws and it pops out. Seems like a really easy fix just need to find out where I can get that item and how much. I'm sure it beats paying $175 deductible.

Yeah I have guess no one started selling parts besides screen. I'm going to call the parts distributor for lg today for East coast to see if they have it. If they don't I'm going to try and take the glass of the lens part for the g3 or g4 and try to fit it in the slot.

First of all I'm sorry you had this problem, if you contact LG, they won't sell you the parts even if they have them, you have to send/take the phone back to where you got it from or to LG and have them to do it, you do have to pay for the cost.
I think the part you want is the mid frame, but if it's the camera outer glass broken, you can just get the lens for the outer frame.
you can also contact these places, as the phone is quite new, parts might not be readly available.

I'm not sure where you are from, but I'm sure they will be available in china, if you live nearby, or I can check this out for you, but you have to wait till December 8, whiles I will visit china for mobile spare part.

I called lg and have a ticket # to send phone to them and have their technicians diagnose it and fix the problem. I'm just concerned they are going to charge ridiculous price to just unscrew snap off and snap on new part. :/

those parts aren't really that much, but they charge a lot on them, previously I got the same part for the note 2, note 3, S5 etc, and the cost is only like less than USD 15 each for a OEM parts.
I know I see how much the camera, camera lens parts for g4 are cheap but lg will probably charge 300% more for the part I need. Like I said above I believe the glass is held in with adhesive so little bit of heat I can get the glass off. Today in going to measure the glass radius and see if it's the same as the g4 or g3 glass on their lens. Worth a shot for $12.
Thanks for the input.

You can message Jerry Rig on YouTube. He usually knows where to find all those replacement parts.

did you get the cost from LG
No, I still need to send my phone to them to get a quote on repair. I just got a feeling they'll charge arm and leg for glass lens. I'm debating on waiting out for part to become available or be without a phone for few weeks(smart phone that is).

Just wait, you have plenty of time, unless you need to use the camera, part will be available soon, and it's much cheaper and easy to fix.

Curious to hear if any others are having issues with the camera lense(glass) on the V10. I have had the phone about 2-3 weeks and just the other day I noticed that my rear camera glass has large area that is scratched. It doesn't look like a typical scratch you would think off (like a small groove) but more like a coating has been worn off the lense. It gives my pictures a slight halo and fuzziness now which is upsetting since this is one of the main selling points to this phone. I always carry my phone in my rear pocket with no other items and take it out before sitting down. Makes me wonder what type of glass is covering the rear camera. If cracks or scratches are becoming a common occurrence maybe LG will do something about it. I am hopeful that it could be easy to remove and replace the rear camera assembly if the OEM parts ever become available.

Mine does as well, noticed it yesterday, couldn't feel the scratch at all. Your right, might be coating.

Had mine 24 hours and noticed the camera lens is cracked. Only noticed because the pics were slightly out of focus. Assumed I had a smudge. Nope. Cracked. VZ says they'll swap me out.
That's good. Usually that is considered physical damage and is not replaced under warranty.

The Best/Case Friendly Tempered Glass Screen Protector w/easy installation

The verizon branded S8 screen protector is great quality, cheap and easy to install. (I purchased it for $26 on the VZW website)
All you have to do is clean up your phone real nice
Then set it inside of the guide piece that comes in the box.
Take off the plastic from the sticky side and set the screen protector on the guide.
Push down on the protector and take off the plastic from the upper side of the protector and BOOM you're done.
It fits in cases without lifting and doesn't cover any of the sensors.
The only complaint I would have is that you can see some dots in direct sunlight but that's a non-issue if you turn the brightness up or just don't be in direct sunlight
Let me know what you guys think. I recommend you try one for yourself. Looks better in person. sorry for the giant pics
If you have any questions about it let me know. Oh and there are no dead spots for touch and it responds no loss in sensitivity.
it is full adhesive on the entire protector? I just looked it up on my corporate Verizon site and it has a Samsung part number so I am pretty sure this is the official glass screen protector that samsung was rumored to be coming out with. I went ahead and ordered it since I get a discount. Part number for anybody interested :SAMDM1PKGSPBK

From what I can tell, it is only glued around the outside, but they did a good enough job so it doesn't feel like it lifts in the center or anything

I stopped by my local Verizon store. It is $45 and they claimed the whole thing had glue. I suspected the guy was full of crap when he said that. I passed on it for now. I am leaning toward trying one, but don't have that much cash right now. Thanks for all of the info.

Both have really bad reviews. Besides marketing and one having the black border, I fail to see a real difference between them.

Apparently Verizon brands all their generic stuff similarly. The guy at the store told me they do the same for all brands. That being said this thing is more trash, screen sensitivity is worse than the GPEL I had on. Funny thing was right after install it was perfect and its slowly getting worse.

I'm either going wet or none. I heard mention in a video that the current glass ones without full glue aren't so nice if you plan to get the phone wet, which I do.

Preordered mine from SecondSkin to make sure my baby was protected as soon as it came out of the box. Went on easily and touch seems unaffected. We'll see how it holds up.

I got this one... it is amazing

I got the Iluvvitt and ZAGG tempered glass. Both are basically crap. They are designed the exact same, with the adhesive only being on the edges. The result is a constant halo effect, and because there is a slight gap between the phone screen and the protector, you get a "rainbow effect" when you turn the phone at different angles. Same exact problem with all of the glass screen protectors and my LG V20.
Yeah the reviews for the verizon one are terrible. Is it the the curved display that has made it hard to make a good tempered glass protecter for S6, S7E, & S8?

From what I've seen, yes. For some reason they can't or just don't put adhesive on the whole protector, only the edges.
