If you didn't backup your phone EFS partition and you've lost it, then nothing can be done. Enjoy your 5 inch WiFi tablet.

Hi everyone! I know i'm not the first one who has this problem but i'm one of them.
I read and tried everything on what i could find about this, but i can't get it fixed! please help!
The situation:
I have a I9100 Galaxy S2, and it works fine, except for the cell phone functionality. It sais "Baseband unknown", has no imei number (also no 0049... imei), and i tried multiple EFS folders (i also have one from a friend who got it from his own Galaxy S2.). But no work.
In fact, i read that if you delete the EFS folder, it should autocreate a new one. It kinda did, but it only generates a bluetooth, upgaddr and wifi folder. Nothing more nothing less.
I flashed another rom, i flashed another phone image with Odin. I tried to erase all kinds of stuff with the clockwordmod recovery. But nothing helps so far.
If i'm correct from my standing, it looks like the baseband is broken itself. Why else wouldn't it even recreate the EFS folder? I'm starting to think that my original EFS folder (which i backed up before replacing it) was fine, but it's not even being read anymore...
Can anyone help me?
Thank you!
bump, still trying. Flashed a new clockworkmod recovery and with adb reformatted the efs partition as listed on xda somewhere. Then rebooted.
The Bluetooth does get a new mac address, so that part is good, but baseband still unknown and imei totally empty.
Also, the phone should regenerate the efs folder itself right? Well it doesn't. That means, it makes a bluetooth and a wifi folder, but that's it. No files or whatever...
Help please!!
m8 y u even delete the efs folder????? anywayz u got a backup so jus copy papte the files of efs...an flash stock rom....if u get un known base band then revert one step back --tht is flash a stock rom then come to present rom--then check///or u can flash cwm modems available suited to tht rom...but make sure u r pure stock--pda,modem,csc.....an yes copy the good efs folder on ext sd card too ,,so tht u can set same permissions like the ones ur copying to phone efs folder(sometimes the permissions change afta reboot)
i'm facing the same problem
My One X+ has developed some signal problems since installing the viper rom. I have now installed the latest Revolution HD rom but the problems persist. Strangely it seems to happen at work more than it does where I live but seems to be a random occurence. I need to restart several times to bring it back to life. Any suggestions?
Hi Karlos,
Here is some things to check...
Shutdown your phone and clean your SIM card with some rubbing alcohol. Some bugs have been fix by applying a scotch tape on the back of the card (cut to size).
Don't restore any system DATA with Titanium Backup, it is a well know fact that this can cause issue similar with yours.
Always full wipe your system before installing a new ROM, restore minimal personal DATA.
Also formating your virtual SD card can help, or at least, take the time to erase (just before rebooting and flashing a new ROM) all the files on your SD that start with a dot and the one called Android.
Those are the first things that come to mind.
Thanks for the reply.
The problem was with the sim card, it was cut from full size to micro and wasn't cut very well or possibly wear and tear.
Since ordering a new sim from my provider the problem has gone.
Thanks for letting us know the solution!

Hello everyone
I have a problem with my phone. I have flashed it several times until i got the ROM i needed, but in one of the wipes i did (cache, dalvik, internal storage, accidentaly deleted the backup too), i came across that is not detecting my SIM card, the usual SIM Management app is not active and i dont know how to configure it. Its like it detects the SIM is there (because it doesnt show the empty slot alert) but it doesnt give me the option to use that network.
I've read about it could be a IMEI problem but i also moded those to the default ones found on my phone, and its still not working, or should i mod them to the SIM IMEI?
Please i need help with this badly, i am kinda desperate about it.
I will appreciate so much any kind of help you can provide me.
Thanks in advance
Sorry the double post.

Hi guys
I bought samsung galaxy s3 i9300 sprint and it was working with me pretty good until i installed a new customed rom , and rom was working fine and one day i have lost my mind and wanted to increase the ram so i downloaded an app after i rooted my phone and instead i format the sd card parition i have formatted the efs and my phone doesnt boot , was freezing on the startup so i Google and found out to download efs repair and after it worked fine but i cant make any calls it gives me a fake IMEI , i installed new official rom 4.1 and 4.3 and changed too many modems all kinds of modems i think but nothing worked and my IMEI still not restored to the orginial one that is written on the back of my phone .
i noticed later that whatever i install from modems it is like nothing because efs folder in my phone missing the the file that my IMEI stored in so i got later that the file that store my original IMEI is missing from ESF folder
I also tried everystep about busybox and emulator dos and nothing worked with me because i think i need to rewrite again my IMEI .
Is there any means to do that or anyone upload me EFS folder of same phone or i will just throw my phone now i dont know what to do i havent enjoy my phone more than one month
Wrong phone, wrong forum. This is for the i9300 only.
If you've wiped your efs then nothing you can do, take it to a repair centre and pay them to fix it.
Questions go in the q&a section, not general.
I cannot help here, but i suggest having a more specific title for the topic.
thanks!

Theres no way to fix it unless u have a back up of ur efs. And yeah. this forum is for the international version not the sprint version. Go to the repair center and ask them to fix it for u. You most probably formatted ur internal memory since its called the sdcard. ur ext sd card is called the sdcard1

thank you for the answer , i sent it to the repairing center,i appreciate ur help
Local shop will fix this a lot cheaper than Sammy service center. Efs is not located on int SD so wiping int SD won't wipe you're efs. Any back ups you made to int SD would be wiped.

He formatted the internal memory, not factory reset.

Yes and formatting won't delete the efs folder. Its not located in int SD. Trust me bk up your int and wipe it. Efs is not affected by formatting int

Efs I learned a lot about on the s2. S2 and s3 and all Sammy phone work the efs the same. What's nv_data.bin file size. The PIC is to show that efs folder isn't in int SD. Any efs file that's in int SD is a copy and same as with ext SD.
Also try this out...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/solved-stuck-flight-mode-efs-issue-t1261948 may help may not but its worth a go on the s3. There also is a man on xda who can fix efs...all he needs is control of you're PC to make it happen but he charges for this. Interested? Not been interested in efs folder since s2 but now I'm getting interested again.

same here
I don't know anyone else that has done this over the net.
Today I learned that hotplugging SIM cards is not a good idea.
"It's just a SIM card, what could possibly go wrong?"
I did this today and after about one minute my h850 rebooted (soft reboot). Since then it continues to freeze for a moment after boot and then reboots. It doesn't matter if the SIM-card is inserted or not. This phone is running the official LOS 20170704 weekly and TWRP (fortunately).
I could reproduce this on a falcon also running LOS from June or July. Restoring the data partition from a backup resolved the bootloop on this phone and it is running fine with the SIM for several hours now.
This means that inserting the SIM while booted must have messed with something on the data partition.
Unfortunately the backup on my h850 is quite a few days old, and more importantly I got a few SMS (from the last few days) right before the bootloop started. Because of this, restoring from the backup is not very inviting and I decided to try to find the source of the bootloop and fix it.
At first I will try to grab some logfiles (logcat & kmesg) - however this is only possible on the falcon for now, because the h850 is not authenticated. I thought about other ways to solve this riddle in case this doesn't show where I have to look.
Since I can reproduce the issue on a second phone I thought about doing a backup right before and another one afterwards. Since the bootloop occurs due to a change on the data partition it must be visible if I compare both backups. I have a simple problem with this though: I don't know how to compare them. Thus, my first question: Which tool can I use to do this?
If this is not feasible for some reason I would like to rescue some of the data a least. Since I can boot into TWRP I can access the internal storage from my computer. I would also like to save SMS (at the very least) and application data (nice to have). What's the best way to do this? Where are the SMS located? Copying everything to the internal storage and then to the computer would certainly be possible, but also mess up permissions big time.
Thanks for taking your time to read this and help me. I hope I really learned my lesson about impatience, regular backups and taking extra precautions and this will not happen again.
Update: For whatever reason I can't get my falcon to bootloop anymore.
