Odin 4.28 does not map my Galaxy i5500, I have installed latest Samsung drivers but it just doesn't map the device, What should I do? is there another way to install CWM Recovery?
Thanks
Edit:
1. The problem seemed to be the Windows, in Windows 7 with Kies installed it downloaded some drivers updates from MS servers for the smartphone and for ODIN when I connected the phone in Downloading mode, after that ODIN could detect the device.
2. Thanks clustered, I could install an up to date CWM.

In order to get ODIN running for rooting I tried installing Kies under Windows. I tried two VMware sessions on my Mac : On both occasions I used the original cable and turned USB debugging OFF (required for Kies). I assigned the USB port to the VMware session of course.
Windows XP SP3 : It did install normally but drivers install of Samsumg MTP device failed
Installing went OK.
Windows 7: Same problem and Kies appeared in a red window.
On the Mac native (OSX 10.7) Kies installed and connected normally, but cannot use it for rooting as ODIN is for Windows only.
Adre these device drivers really required for ODIN ?
i think u need the drivers. forget kies. just download the samsung drivers and install them. u have to put the phone into download mode to install firmware via odin -> VOL_Down+Home+Power
the drivers u will get here (will work for sgs2 too):
64bit Windows (all versions): http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
32bit Windows (all versions): http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
Yea it doesn't work on Mac. Got 10.7 running here too, but I only flash through my CWM directly now. When I need odin, I just use my mom's laptop.
Hope not too late, here's the link for downloading Odin, Kies, Kies3, Smart Switch, and all needed drivers for Samsung phones: http://www.droidviews.com/android-usb-drivers-samsung-motorola-sony-lg-zte-htc-asus-huawei-acer/ Thank me if this helped
In reality I know that the problems I'm seeing aren't unique, however having scanned the forums I can't see someone who has a similiar problem. At risk of having of being called an idiot I will post my problem here.
I'm trying to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy SII (Virgin, Canada) from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 using the following instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282269
Specifically:
From KG2 on 2.3.3 with Bell Mobility
Mostly used: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
1) Put the phone into download mode (Power + Home + Vol. Down)
2) Start Odin - Click on the PDA button and browse to the .tar file. (In my case, GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XXKI3_I9100XXKI3_I9100XEUKD1 - 2.3.5)
3) Connect the USB cable and wait for the ID:COM section to turn yellow
4) Click 'Start' to flash. Do not disconnect the cable or turn off the device, it will reboot when it finishes.
5) You are now on 2.3.5 I9100XXKI3.
Click to collapse
My phone is in download mode but Odin never sees it and recognizes that its attached to any port.
Puter OS: Windows 7
Odin version 1.85
The phone is running stock v2.3.3 and kies isn't running.
I've rebooted my machine, tried multiple USB ports and waited patiently for over an hour. I'm getting no joy. I would love a hint as to what I should try next.
Try odin 3.xx (google odin 3)
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Odin 1.85 is Odin3 1.85 as found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Thanks
Mark
Did you run kies first to install samsung drivers??? or you could just do it manually. But make sure you close kies afterwards as it will conflict with odin
Do you mean Kies Air - which is the only Kies I have on my phone?
no, install kies on computer and run it. then attach phone to computer using usb cable and it will automatically install drivers. after that odin should recognize phone but, again, make sure kies isnt running in background when using odin.
Also make sure USB debugging is disabled on the phone. (Settings, Applications, development).

Sweet and the winner is installing kies - the desktop app. My problem I didn't realize there was a desktop app
Danke. I'm upgraded.
Well I decided to try and install KitKat on my Galaxy Player, I have transferred all of my Galaxy Player stuff (Superoneclick, Odin, my personal restore package, individual partitions, etc.) from my old computer (running Windows XP) to my new one (running Windows 8.1). When I plugged my SGP 4.0 into my new computer, it installed some drivers. The drivers allow my computer recognize my SGP 4.0 in ADB and in Odin, but only when the device is booted normally, not in recovery or in download mode. I was wondering do I need some different drivers in order for Odin to interact with my device while it is in download mode so I can fix it if something goes wrong.
get the driver package from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038555
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 which was running Cyanogenmod 11 Snapshot M12 which had been running for a while but then I decided to revert back to the Samsung Stock ROM but chose to do it using Mobile Odin.
I have to admit that despite the phone warning me I had only 46% charge and needed 50% I foolishly thought the difference was so minor that it didn't matter. It did matter.
The phone stopped during the flashing process and now I see the Mobile phone . . Exclamation Mark yellow triangle . . PC icon on my phone screen with the message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again."
I cannot get into recovery mode. I can get into Download Mode and I have tried to flash the stock ROM using Odin and Windows 7 (PC) but it stops dead at "Setupconnection" and Heimdall and Ubuntu 14.04 (laptop) but Heimdall does not see the device either. I have tried three different USB cables in 5 different USB sockets in my PC and 3 in my laptop.
I thought of using a USB Jig but from research it appears that would only put the phone in download mode which I can already do myself.
Does anyone have any other ideas please?
download any new firmware from sammobile.com and go to download mode and reinstall the new firmware
