Returning to stock --- doubts - OnePlus X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please clarify my doubts regarding, returning to full stock rom..
1. If i download full 2.1.3.x rom, can i flash the rom through stock recovery and loose root (no twrp installed)? If yes, does it has anything to do with bootloader status?
2. Can i flash stock rom with twrp and then flash stock recovery to revert back to stock?
3. Is there any Toolkit that does these jobs like Nexus root toolkit (I searched for one without success, just want to confirm)
4. Is there any thread, clearly guiding through the process of returning to stock from various scenarios?
Appreciate any sort of help...

1. you can. No it does not.
2. Yes you can. After you flash , if you reboot to system, twrp will be wiped by stock recovery. If you reboot to recovery, it wont be overridden and you will also have official device status. Bootloader will stay unlocked. So no need to unlock again.
3. There are. check this
4. Search is your friend. Everything is already discussed in thread. check this
You should check Oneplus x general section for detailed threads.

I have not used it. But I don't think you can. But you can take backup from TWRP and can restore this later. Or you can flash 2.1.3.x zip

Some Questions

Current Situation:
-Phone is on KK (version .167)
-Phone is working fine, no problems at all
-Has Locked Bootloader
-Is Missing Recovery
So my questions are:
1) Can I install recovery WITHOUT having to unlock my bootloader or flashing another rom?
If yes, then could you perhaps provide me with the necessary information to do it? (if I need a PC, and where to find the required programms, I will do everything else on my own)
2) Can I take a Nandroid Backup of just the system? (not the apps installed by me)
3) If I have a Nandroid Backup, flash another android version, and then restore the backup, everything should be as if I never flashed anything right?
4) If I take a Nandroid Backup while on locked bootloader, flash a rom, unlock my bootloader, flash a kernel, and then restore my backup, what happens?

Yes. This has been asked and answered. There is a search button to assist in asking siple thing. There is also google.
1. Root with community root kit, towelroot or king root. Install recovery image. Google twrp and it'll tell you how to install with dd.

Not really. You can take a complete backup and restore the system partition only though. Look in advanced restore of recovery. This will only recover the system partition and not the apps you install (assuming you don't install things on the system partition).

Yes depending on what you restore and what you wipe. E.g. If you don't wipe data you may get some interesting things like force closes or boatloads.

You'll be on the original rom and kernal with an unlocked bootloader.

1- You don't need to unlock the bootloader, there is no reason to do that. You must downgrade to 4.4.2 to install a recovery - A downgrade means you'll loose your apps and settings.Unlocking the bootloader will trigger factory reset too. And yes, you will need a PC or Mac with all the drivers installed (ADB and Flashmode are a must) See NUT's XZDR: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261606 Download the older installer from his official download page and search for Z2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.21-RELEASE.installer.zip . It can temporarily root to install the recovery. After you have a fully functional recovery you can install the SuperSU .zip
2- Use TWRP to make a backup, also you can make a flashable update package by yourself by using PRF Creator: http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/tool-prfcreator-easily-create-pre-t2859904 (You will need this to keep root/recovery on Marshmallow)
3- I usually do clean installs, so I can't answer this one
4-If you unlock the bootloader it will stay unlocked until you manually relock it.
BEWARE! Unlocking the bootloader on a Xperia is more of a downgrade. You will loose proprietary functions like noise cancelling, a bit of camera quality, some GPS functios, official updates, DRM keys...etc. First try to root on 4.4.2 and do a TA Backup (Trim Area) BEFORE tinkering with the bootloader. The DRM keys are unique to every phone, they are not interchangeable and cannot be recovered after you unlock the bootloader. Bootloader unlocking will not unlock the SIM card.

Also not true. Root with towelroot ask (https://towelroot.com/) and install twrp. Can be done from phone 100%.
Dd Install Method (Requires Root):
Download the latest image file (.img) from the download link above. Place it in the root of your /sdcard folder and rename it to twrp.img. Run the following commands via adb shell or a terminal emulator app:
su
dd if=/sdcard/twrp.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/FOTAKernel

How to flash a stock image using TWRP only, not a PC

I have a Nexus 6P that has some weird issue where it is not being recognized by any PC or any USB port as a USB device. So I can't get it to work with fastboot as an adb device. It has stock android 6.0.1 on it and TWRP. This is how I got it. I think there is something wrong with the software not allowing the USB mode to work properly so I wanted to flash to another stock image. I've already downloaded the stock anglr image and uses Google Drive to transfer the files over, both the complete image and also the independent IMG files. Is it possible to use TWRP to flash the phone back to stock?
Two questions before I venture an answer -
a. When you mean flash back to stock, I am assuming you mean your TWRP stays and all you want is to flash stock android. Right?
b. Your custom recovery is TWRP right?

a: Yes, unrooted and a different stock image to see if maybe this version on the phone is buggy with the USB connection not working.
b: Yes, TWRP 2.8.7.2
Great. Then the simple answer is yes. Subject to the fact that whatever you trying to flash is "flashable" (i.e. usable by TWRP). To be honest I have been flashing using TWRP for last 3 years and never once have I used a PC.
Slightly longer answer. To do this
a. (ALWAYS) Backup original Android install using TWRP
b. Factory reset (NOT wipe - unless you know what you are doing!)
c. Look for the Flashable ZIP containing your stock image - and flash.
and voila! You are back to stock!
Good luck!

Thanks. So if I download the stock android image from google developers page, I can copy that over to the device and use TWRP to flash it?
Actually, I've been reading that I cannot flash a factory image with recovery, only fastboot. But fastboot doesn't work for me because device won't recognize when connected with USB (trust me, I tried everything with drivers and cables, computers, etc). I think I need to find a flashable stock image for my device.

No. Which is why I said - "flashable". I dont have a Nexus 6p so I dont know where you can find a TWRP flashable stock image for that device. But a quick search of your device specific sub-forum on XDA yielded this link.
The link in the first para should help you find a "flashable factory/ stock image". I would suggest you follow instructions on that post and ask further questions there as the folks in there will have the same device as you and provide better help.
Again, good luck!
Thanks, I appreciate this advice as it helps.

Le Eco Pro 3 X727 Twrp Backup : Clean Full Stock X727 recovery EUI 5.8.21s

Return to Un-modded Stock:
Bootloader unlocked and TWRP and Root included
The file is 4gb compressed to 2gb. Depending on your connection it will probably take 20 to 45 minutes to download.
Be Advised
Do your research before flashing anything, I am not responsible for any damage caused to your device, due to impatience and missed steps. However, rest assured this recovery is solid and will absolutely return your X720 or X727 to stock 5.8.21s (with the bootloader already unlocked, TWRP installed and rooted)
I was asked by several people if I would be willing to share a link to my Stock X727 recovery, I created this thread to provide the 5.8.21s recovery for anyone who is experiencing dire issues or is simply wanting to restore the last official x727 recovery, as a daily driver or as a means to troubleshoot their issues by returning to the fully stock rom, stock partitions and ready to start over.
Attached is my full stock TWRP Recovery for my Le Eco Pro 3, version: 5.8.21s (X727)
It is a clean TWRP backup recovery that I did not mod in any way other than unlocking the bootloader.
The link is to my Google Drive account. https://drive.google.com/open?id=19dtLHmE5bsx5mdtEXOns4Z5drpeY79Em
The file is compressed
Ensure that you perform a full wipe before applying this recovery, and that you know what you are doing before attempting to install.
Please note that any changes that you make to your device is done at your own risk.
Please use caution and make sure that you have TWRP recovery installed.
Be in the habit of booting back to recovery before booting to system....This is a good practice for ensuring TWRP stays installed
You must unpack the downloaded 7zip file, before it will be useable.
As long as you can boot into TWRP and have root access you will have the full permissions needed to install anything , and reverse any actions that do not workout as planned.
Personally, I make a backup of my existing installation prior to making any changes. I recommend that you do the same. If you buy an OTG adapter and a USB 3.0 drive it takes 5 minutes.
The steps provided on the following link can be used to install my recovery file. https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/how-to/guide-return-to-stock-lock-bootloader-t3539513
When clicking the link, Google will attempt to scan. Click download to see the file, and then choose download if wanted.

Great work just what I needed only one problem for me after I flash rom reboot system and then go back into TWRP there seems to be encryption on it and I can't install or backup or do much. Is there a password or way around this TWRP encryption?

I don't have time at the moment to provide lengthy instructions. With respect, I am providing a working, clean unlocked recovery file and pointing the way to instructions already that exist all throughout the LeEco forums.
But here's a quick answer
First use TWRP to reset your phone with a clean wipe, like you would for any ROM. Set developer options to the standard settings.
Next, your storage is encrypted. So it needs to be formatted. Use TWRP format the storage only. Then reboot to recovery.
****Important****
Don't ever format the storage without ensuring that you have a TWRP recovery. Always check the boxes to check if TWRP is installed before swiping. If you don't have a recovery you have a soft brick.
For you information, TWRP recovery is installed on it's on it very own partition. Formatting the storage does not affect the TWRP partition. Nonetheless, if you see the check box option, make sure they are checked.
I would suggest that you install the all in one tool : https://www.google.com/amp/s/forum....pment/tool-tool-one-mauronofrio-t3580611/amp/
This tool helps a lot and makes this stuff easier if are new to flashing custom Roms.. The all in one tool will update the Google driver and ADB installation on your computer.
After you format your drive you will have to flash the recovery from the PC. The links provided show all of the steps, or you can use the all for one tool. When your storage is encrypted you have no choice but to format.
If you use the all in one tool , see their page for instructions.
Read the instructions, then read them again. when learning something new it's a good idea to take notes.
Do not deviate from those steps or you could brick your phone.
There have been many people that have messaged me by PM who successfully returned to stock using my recovery, so it will work as long as you are careful and follow the instructions verbatim and you will be fine. Plus, It's a great idea to create your own working recovery before you begin.
Reminder, you are restoring to stock under you own discretion, I am not responsible if you miss a key step, have a power outage, use faulty cables or brick your device.
One final suggestion, when you install the recovery make sure your phone is fully charged. Unplug all unneeded external peripherals from your desktop computer.
Temporarily, disable antivirus, insert USB cable into the back of your desktop PC. Those outlets provide more power.
Please look past any typos, I typed this on little keys.
One last suggestion

No it will not keep twrp. follow the instructions in the link I provided above, there was no reason to duplicate the instructions on my post.
The difference is that my backup will restore your phone to Eui 5.8.21s with bootloader unlocked. You will need to reflash Twrp and root the phone with Magisk if you want to keep Twrp recovery ( that is what I would do) You will not be able to get OTA updates. But that doesn't matter because there probably not be any more OTA updates for the x727
Thank you, sir! This is great work. I was able to restore back to stock.
On the strange side of thing, my TWRP was saved. Previously, I was running AICP, but having multiple sound issues with it.
Here are the steps I followed to restore:
1) Move the file to OTG flash drive
2) Restore through TWRP via Restore
For my 727, it just reboot on logo, and doesn't go past it.

For me, I had the quickest experience by flashing Magisk afterwards. The stock Rom , Rooted, and with Xposed is actually pretty sweet.

It should not take more than 10 minutes, and will usually startup in 5. I just now restored one of my X727's with this recovery, using the OTG method that the last person used and viola in worked so there's no doubt. I have always used ADB until now.
However, unlike the other poster, I did lose Twrp and had to reinstall it.
Always, Always Ensure Twrp is permanently installed
Make sure that you are on the latest version of Twrp : https://twrp.me/leeco/leecolepro3.html
Run Magisk, install Rom, Install Magisk again
Personally, I use the latest version of Magisk : https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/beta-magisk-v13-0-0980cb6-t3618589
You want a fully clean install before you flash.
Instructions are redundant of XDA: if you want something other than what you have read already: Click on my account history to find detailed instructions, ( I type too much, too often) Under most thanked, you can quickly find detailed instructions for installing , Roms, Rooting, Installing Twrp, How to wipe to avoid any issues.
Finally, if for some reason it still doesn't work, the file may have been corrupted.
Worst Case scenario : there are other recoveries available on XDA. Beware of the edited versions, they do not work as well as an unadulterated recovery.

This recovery is stock EUI 5.8.21s. The exception is that the bootloader is unlocked, and it has TWRP Recovery instead of EUI Recovery. I do not remember which version of Magisk I Installed. I would advise that you flash the newest version of Magisk and you will not have any safety net issues.
If you are wanting a complete return to stock, you should instead reflash the stock Full Rom, which will reinstall EUI recovery and lockdown the bootloader.

Questions about Unlocking Poco F1 and Recovery TWRP

I have already read the threads https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/how-to/xiaomi-poco-f1-unlock-bootloader-custom-t3839405 and steps. I would like to clarify one more time before doing flashing.
1. To unlock fastboot, we need to have DEV ROM, right? If it is stable, we can't?
2. If it must be DEV ROM, where did the TS get the DEV ROM? Since I checked in MIUI Official site, there is no DEV ROM. It only provides stable.
3. After unlocking bootloader, all we need to do is flash the TWRP Berylium and then Flash the DisablerEncryptionmodTreble.zip, right? After that just flash magisk and reboot system and we are done?
4. Where do we get the POCO F1 Driver? This is because I can't get it detected in Fastboot but is able to detect in ADB.
Thank you very much in advance to clear my doubts.

1. If you mean unlocking the bootloader then it works from the stable rom also. You need to enable OEM unlocking, bind your account to the device and apply to Xiaomi (and wait 72h).
3. The instructions are in the other thread, but basically yes, make sure you format data also.
4. Again, see the threads where this is discussed for download links.

Thank you very much in advance to clear my doubts.

Unlock bootloader u have to do thru mi unlock tool from their website.
No dev roms at present but u can flash miui 10 beta which is better than the present 9 and is updated quite often.
Magisk is flashed only if u need root, not compulsory. Read and reread all the steps and Don exactly as instructed. Flashing disabler zip every time u flash is better and format data is mandatory to avoid unwanted complications.
Poco drivers usually are not required. Google Android bootloader drivers detect the phone automatically.
Try command fastboot devices in fastboot mode and ur device should be listed

I have unlocked my Pocophone f1 and rooted my phone. I do have 3 questions.
1. Why is TWRP asking me to decrypt password the moment it boots? I never even have password in my phone.
2. Everytime if i want to update the Stock ROM Miui, it will always lose root. So, when I want to root everytime I update, do I have to flash FORCEDISABLERENCRYPTION again and format data like the instruction? Can't we just flash FORCEDISABLERENCRYPTION and MAGISK without formatting?
3. The first time I boot my phone after format data, it says, "This device is associated with MI account. for security reasons, you have to provide password." Is there some way to disable this?
Thank you for helping.

Question What is the easiest and safest way to root Redmi Note 10?

I want to access /data/system/users//settings_ssaid.xml to know what my game unique id is.
But after some research i learned that i have to root to able to get there but i have almost zero knowledge about it.
Are there any guide to root Redmi Note 10 from the scratch? Thanks.
1- Boot into Custom Recovery
2- Flash Magisk ZIP
3- Install Magisk APK
Done
if you want detailed steps , please tell me on wich ROM you are and if you have your bootloader unlocked

Hi, I'm on official global ROM 12.5.3.0 RKGMIXM
And i turned on OEM Unlocking in developer mode yesterday (Which is confuse me a little a guide said i have to wait for 7 days for this but mine is nothing it's just switched to on)
OEM Unlocking is only one of the steps, but it does not unlock the bootloader. File a request with Xiaomi.
unlock bootloader
i recommend only booting to twrp, not flashing it
flash magisk 23
hide magisk

Why do you recommend to only booting to TWRP instead of flashing it?

because the twrp developer instruction is to booting , not flashing

Aside of that instruction, actually is it 'dangerous' if we install the TWRP? What 'bad things' would/may happen if we install it? (Because I see some guides about installing it on RN10, like this one for example, and I was almost followed that guide).
Risk of bootloop

Risk of bootloop and fastboot loop... because this twrp is modded to be booted and then flashed (you can found the option in advanced)
One time i faced a fastboot loop once i flashed directly the twrp , that's why i recommend booting it first and then , flashing

Yes, I mean that, (booting it first then flashing,.. (the TWRP right?).. I think the guide (which the youtube link I attached above) is also told to do that, right? (Or do I misunderstand this?)

Please confirm these;
*So we can:
Use TWRP only temporarily, only to root the phone (by flashing Magisk v23),
and then,
back to using the stock recovery on our RN10 afterward,
even if the RN10 is already rooted?
**If the answer for my question above is yes, then (in RN10 condition of Unlocked Boot Loader, Rooted, Stock MIUI & Stock Recovery) ;
Would we still get official OTA Update from Xiaomi (and can download and install the update- as how it's like before rooting the phone)?
Thank you in advance
It's an unnecessarily complicated procedure. Just flash a modified boot.img for your Miui using fastboot from your PC. If you don't have the ability to modify the boot.img on another rooted phone yourself, request a modified boot.img with the exact update version of your Miui here.

Thanks again, (and maybe I will try your suggestion later).. but (sorry)... your reply doesn't answer my questions.
(I think my questions are very clear and probably very easy to be answered by someone who has experience/knowledge about it (like you?).. no?)
Forgive my nooby questions.
But I really want to know as much as I can (especially about the answer for some questions I have inside my head about the matter, like I asked above),.. before executing doing something about my phone.
oops... I'm sorry for double send
In the past I rooted Miui and then continued to get OTA updates. However, this cannot be confirmed for all versions of Miui. Each new update changes the phone software and so what worked before may not work today.

Hi, I'm unlocked my phone and installed the orange fox it's the custom recovery right? Because it say so.
If yes, By Flash Magisk ZIP how to do that? Please explain the detailed steps, Thanks.
First of all, I would like to point out that Magisk (root) is a security risk. Without understanding the issues, the phone is more easily exploitable.
To install, just download the magisk file with the ZIP extension. In recovery, select the install option and select this file. Once installed, exit recovery and boot the system. Once the system boots, use magisk and complete the installation it requests.

the answer above is right ... but i would suggest to flash Orange Fox zip and then Magisk zip... to avoid problems
isn't there decrypt.zip for RN10?
How to decrypt this phone?
I usually did that along with rooting with my android phones before this.
Edit:
Update:
It's ok now I understand how, after watching this video.
