2 audio related Bugs I've noticed:
[Locked Bootloader, customised Nordic, full wipe clean install.]
1)
I use speaker phone on call a lot.
I'm noticing a much lower level of sound on speaker phone in call.
Even general audio playback is lower (tested certain YouTube tracks I listen to regularly, the levels are much lower then in LP.)
2)
When on a call. Again on speaker phone..... And playing YouTube or Music via the music app. The person on the other end of the call can here the playback?!?!?
Neither of these things happened on LP
Can anyone confirm?
You should let the phone settle for one day. I had this issue on both LP and MM on the first day of usage. The volume greatly increased the next day...it is some sort of calibration that the phone does.
Thankfully you were right.
Wahoo.

Anyone else have issues using DSP Manager at high volumes? The issue happens when using the phone speaker or headphone jack (didn't test bluetooth) and setting volume to ~85% or higher. The resulting sound is a lot of high pitch squealing that I imagine would be similar to what you would hear with a decoder issue.
To replicate the issue:
1) Launch DSP Manager, choose Headset (if you choose headset, I wouldn't put your headphones on for this test...or if you're running a line out to a stereo receiver, turn your volume all the way down) or Phone Speaker and disable all effects or select Menu, Reset.
2) Play any mp3 or streaming audio (ie Slacker, Pandora), adjust the volume to be within 1-4 clicks of max.
3) Go back to DSP Manager, enable Equalizer, and then adjust the low frequency slider (leftmost slider) to be above 0.
4) At this point, the sound issue should be noticeable if you're experiencing the same issue I am.
If someone can please test this and confirm they have the same issue I would appreciate it. I didn't find any other reports of this issue, but if it's a known problem, can someone please point me in the right direction to resolve the issue? I've tried this on 4 different ROMs (I think they may all be Cyanogen based) and I have the same problem with all of them.
Thanks in advance for any input.
Sorry man I couldn't replicate it on Nonsensikal 8.8. Used Pandora, set volume to within 2 clicks of max, and set <100 hz to .2 .4 and .6. Didn't get any kind of squealing. This was on phone speaker. I have had weird DSP issues in the past though. Just didn't care enough to try it on all the froyo roms.

I have the same exact problem. I cant even move anything without it going crazy. im running CELBFROYO 2.9
Thanks for your feedback guys, I'm going to try out Nonsensikal 8.8, will report back later.
Edit: I tried Nonsensikal 8.8 and still had the audio issues. Did a little research and I thought maybe I was experiencing "clipping". I don't consider myself an audiophile so I wasn't really sure if this was an accurate diagnosis of my issue. This lead me down the path to try out the Mixzing app since it has a built in EQ. Since the Mixzing EQ only functions on audio thru the Mixzing player, it's not an end-all solution since I find myself pulling up Slacker when I want a change of pace from the mp3s I have on my SD card, and the Mixzing EQ does not function for streaming music.
Anyway, I found the EQ in Mixzing to be quite helpful as it appears to actually detect when clipping is occurring and notifies you by change the EQ bands to red. The clipping I experienced thru Mixzing is not comparable to what I hear when using DSPManager. The Mixzing clipping results in the audio cutting out for a given frequency range - for example when clipping occurs when a bass drum is playing, you don't hear the full range of sound of the bass drum, the low frequency is cut off. What's also noteworthy here is that thru Mixzing, I was able to rectify the clipping issue by simply re-adjusting the sliders to their previous positions and the sound output was corrected. Whereas with DSPManager, resetting the sliders didn't fully resolve the audio issue, I was still able to discern a high pitch whine especially during quiet portions of a song until either the song ended, or I disabled the EQ. If this were related to a clipping issue, I presume the squealing I hear would go away when I reset the sliders to their previous positions, since the squealing persists, I think it's probably a decoder issue.
Something else I learned here, perhaps already evident to other users, is that for each frequency band you adjust in Mixzing, it requires additional processor resources. This might explain why the Eris (not sure if this plagues other phones) struggles here. And on that note, I was using my Eris to test the waters and help me determine if it's worth rooting and dropping a custom ROM on my Incredible. Since this sounds like it can potentially be a resource issue, and I haven't found other users on different phones experiencing this issue, I guess I'll take the plunge and try a custom ROM on my Incredible.
Hello all,
I am experiencing a very weird volume issue. I'm debating sending the phone in for the insurance, but I heard that this phone has stopped being sent back as a replacement, my buddy with the same one had to pick a different one. So I would like to find a workaround
Problem:
The volume is inconsistent, very much so, but only at very intermittent times, sometimes frequently. It starts at one of the two levels, low and high, and switches between the two sometimes 5 times in a few min or once every few day. it occurs across every application and every re-install of the venom rom.
It is a problem because 1. it is annoying, and 2.I have a very loud sound system in my car.
Normal loud listening volume is around 20-23 out of 35. i can turn it all the way up with no distortion and it is extremely loud at this point, loud enough to damage ears easily. When I turn it up that loud(at festivals) I like to wear earplugs in it. When I'm just driving I don't need it that loud, but I always ride to taste with the volume. Sometimes i don't look at the volume level on my car, the volume on my phone is up all the way but it has decided to take a low level to start today. While driving and not looking at the volume, just listening to it, i will usually set my volume at 33-35, then the phone decides to jump to it's loud setting making me cringe and swerve in pain and surprise as I sound like a rattling venue driving around. I have mostly solved this by just using my ipod. But I really like having spotify and pandora in there. plus android kicks ass, my ipod feels like a backup hard drive in it's waterproof case
Have Tried:
Pushing volume button up(does nothing when low)
Rebooting
Re-installing os
Bluetooth vs aux (both same problem)
resetting Bluetooth connection
removing and and pushing in headphones
placing a call
Guess:
it appears to not affect calls or ringer volume, just media volume, even speakerphone is unaffected. my guess is something in the audio processing section due to it affecting bluetooth and aux out. I have ruled out speaker, installed programs, connection type, time of day, specific mp3's, temperature, movement and what i'm doing on it. It is really stumping me, usually I can figure out what is broken on the inside of things hardware related, but I don't know the inner workings of this phone exactly.
Would like:
To know what is actually going on. A fix would be awesome, but I mainly want to know what it could possibly be. It has confused me for too long.
To know if the phone can be replaced for the same model to hold out until next summer
Would not like:
To be told to just get a new phone. I like this one and the rom on it. plus i already paid for it and a new battery. i will live with the issue until next summer if need be
Any ideas?
Which media player are you using? Since it only occurs during media playback perhaps a different media player will give you some insight

I usually use power amp.
Though the problem occurs across that, the stock media player, Pandora, spotify, youtube, flash videos. pretty much everything except for calls and ringer.
Try using a app that (re)sets the volume every time you connect to the radio via Bluetooth. I use a car dock that automatically launches my car app (car home ultra) when the phone is inserted, and the app then automatically sets the Bluetooth media volume to a preset volume every time.

When I place or receive a regular call the other person can barely hear me unless I speak less than 0.5 inches from the microphone. At less than 0.5t inches, they hear me good. At 2 inches extremely muffled or nill (this is the distance of the mouth in a regular call), and at 3 or more inches nothing at all.
Physically the mic however works fine when recording videos, so it has to be something non-physical. Also confirmed with a test on the Microphone at *#*#7378423#*#* where the both primary and secondary mics record fine.
In desperation I used flashtool and re-image the whole thing (even with erasing all data) with the latest XpriFirm ROM and tested it right after the successful image and without installing any 3rd party apps. The problem still there.
I also tried 3 different ROMs from different countries, but the problem still there.
Using a external wired headset mic works fine.
It seems, like a setting that is aggressively reducing the mic sensitivity just for the phone calls.
Ruled out 3rd party applications, mic physical damage or normal Android setting, I am really lost on to proceed from here!
Does anyone know what to do?

Model: E5823.
Bootloader has never been unlocked so no root.
Do you have the volume all the way up during the call? As in once call is started turn it up.
Idk how much it will help but have you tried to flash the soundmod? I have never had a problem with the mic other than a small echo on speakerphone. Also have you tried speakerphone wile in call? Might be something wrong with the phone apk, try a third party phone dialer? It wouldn't hurt to go through the sound menus to check everything as well.
Hi!
I doubt is a setting (in the Sound Effects options everything is off) since I flashed a stock clean ROM.
Did not know there are alternative dialers... I will study them today.
Regarding flashing the soundmod, can you do that without being rooted? If so, i'll search in how to do it too.
Cheers and thanks from just a couple of dozen miles south of you Sagnasty.
Have you tried to change the value of microphone sensitivity, although the option is in the Settings / Sound and Notification / Accessory Settings - turn mic sensitivity to high and see how it is then in a conversation?
The Speakerphone as suggested by civicsr2cool was surprising... the mic just picks up voice just fine from the distance in that setting!!
Then I just played with those mic sound settings as per Monipeev, (I did that days ago) but now it did something and in any sensitivity setting works fine... it must have been playing with this setting and the speakerphone one that may have unstuck some mic glitch.
Thanks so much guys... and two think I spend hours trying to solve this and even flashing ROMs! :victory:
Hi everybody. It happend to me with my Xperia Z5 compact as well - the mic did not work properly during call, but when I tested it offline the mic was OK. Playing with settings did not work as well as factory reset, so I ordered microphone spare part from China (ca 2$) and replaced it. Then the problem disappeared. I agree with polar_bay above it seems like mic glitch - I think my spare mic was slightly different from the original (maybe less sensitive) and that's it. Maybe also complete voltage drop (battery disconnection) helped to unstuck it.
My recommendations are:
1. play with mic settings (sw)
2. open the phone and disconnect the battery for a while (1 minute)
3. place small&thin absorber between mic and hole in phone case
4. replace microphone
hi, I have just bought another used xperia z5 compact as my other device has gotten old. after I received the new one I almost directly rooted it installed twrp and flashed lineageos 17. after a while I recognized that the microphone is not working during calls, only if the speaker is enabled. also when i want to record audio or use the tuner it doesn't work.
is there any chance to find out if it is a hardware problem or if it can be solved by some setting or so, be it coding?
thanks for any hints!
Hello, i'm not going to make long post and will try to make it as short as possible to understand
My volume (Speakers and Headphones) keeps going up and down at some parts randomly when playing Music/Video on high volume
Am i the only one having this glitch? Or is it normal? I don't want protection of my ears (some user said it's cause of that on MIUI forum)
Thank You

Yes it's happening after 9.6.18.0 update, but espcially while Play games while earphone plugged in not with speakers. They said (Xiaomi-POCO) they will fix it soon so wait till update arrive.
I have that issue too..... kind a bother
Next update is going to be big. With many fixes
I vs had something like that on .11 version. After updating it dissapeared and now music plays normal
this happend twice in my poco while on headphones
seems like when music player running in background
sometimes volume goes up and down automatically
after a while it fixed again
Volume auto adjusts itself very often
MIUI 9.6.25.0
Volume goes up and down whenever i plug-in the headphones and start an audio enabled app(Youtube, Wynk etc...). This is really annoying as the sound automatically adjusts itself to HIGH or even to zero sometimes. Please suggest some remedy for this.
Every couple of minutes I am getting a loud pop/crack sound during normal calls and the same behaviour on Whatsapp and Viber calls.
I tried both on speaker and without and the result is the same. I am running all the latest updates. The adaptive sound is disabled.
Also tried Stealth Audio Player to hear both the external and internal speaker on Youtube videos and I can't reproduce it except sometimes it pops when a video is started. I also tried recording my mic and it sounds clear without this popping.
Is there anything else I can try to fix or debug this issue? It sounds like it is trying to record or adapt the sound while on call even if the adaptive is off.

This kinda sounds like the problem I had, but ALLLLL the way back to my Pixel 2 XL!
If you're rooted, you can try what worked for me below -- although, I'm not up to date with Viper4Android (V4A) and I believe it's either EOL or is in the process of being updated to work in x64 architecture or there are newer updated branches or something... But if it's possible to lower the frequencies, you might luck out like I did on the taimen...
I Found a Speaker Distortion Fix
Like many, my phone has the lower speaker distortion on speaker phone calls and general audio, like YouTube, when turned up high. If you are rooted, I have found a solution to all situations except speaker phone calls. I installed Viper4android...

Thanks for the help. I can hardly hear any issues while on youtube. There is noticeable pop when videos ending or starting. Some people are reporting motherboard issues with Pixel 7 leading to similar problems. I am trying to find if it is a hardware or software issue.
After further investigation it looks like interference. If I disable the mobile data and WIFI it seems to be a lot better. After 16 minutes call it was a very faint pop if at all. Does it sound like it needs a motherboard replacement or a future patch might fix it. Update: still happening regardless of connectivity on both the inner and outer speaker. I am going to RMA for motherboard replacement.
