I wonder how many more xda users have this phone, have anyone had any experience yet with root/flashing some sort of recovery for this phone?
I was considering it, now I think I'll be getting the 1+6 instead. The reasons are because $ and mainstream which means more accessories and hopefully a nice battery case soon.
Bro it's a great phone someone will do something with it
I'd advise skip Blackshark instead. I too have my hopes to Blackshark since its rumors. And since Xiaomi funds this company, I really wanted to get my hands on this. A cool gaming phone that really performs.
2019 came and there are a quite number of issues people are saying that their Blackshark 2 cannot install pubg, some Blackshark Helo got bug a with a feature. It's like a hit or miss and this is quite dissapointing since this is the first gaming phone that came out and yet their phone suffers hit or miss issues.
hey everyone so i'm clearly enjoying me Redmi 5 but when compared to the other redmi phones or even xiaomi phones overall, it's getting very little attention, like only a few roms and all are nougat roms while others like even the redmi 4 already got an android P rom even though our device is newer and actually better in overall performance, so i think we really should make the forum more lively if we want more interest and roms to come this way
What ideas could you guys have to make our phone a bit more popular? comment below please
Hi, glad you happy to use it. The phone did not get enough attention because it has very little amount of developer for the phone. Cheap ***** don't really turn heads, so does the phone at the eyes of the devs.
Just hold on, we will get oreo sooner or later. If not, try to be rich and buy a better phone.

well, this is a good answer but still i think it should get more attention cause according to gsmarena it has 5,873,306 hits and it sold very well, i mean a 3gb ram device with such good price with 18x9 display, that's not something you see everyday, but i think it just needs some more activity in this forum like people making more threads, replying so that way the devs could get interested and we could get custom roms faster, just my opinion though, thanks for the answer anyway

I think a lot of people who interested in purchasing this phone end up buying the redmi 5 plus model as the price increase is quite low by comparison based on my country market. Anyways, I do agree with having a 3gb ram and a 18x9 display with the range of price given by the market is quite good. TLDR, I think the Redmi 5 Plus does overshadow the redmi 5 model, thus causing low number of custom roms development.
Slightly offtopic. In my country there is a bigger price difference between the Redmi 5 and 5 plus in most mainstream online stores, and I've been able to get my mother a Redmi 5 2/16 gb for literally 107 dollars converted and adjusted for vat! Dirt cheap. In comparison my oneplus 3 costed 500 dollars 2 years ago.
I am able to run Blokada no-root adblocker on the Redmi 5 if I turn off battery optimizations and turn on "keep alive". That's all we need from a cheaper phone isn't it? MIUI gets kinda regular updates and recent security patches, and is an overall solid and lightweight ROM. Not a lot of bloat unlike other cheaper phones.
I'm not even expecting much custom rom's when Xiaomi provides such good support for their phones
The new Rom packaging has screwed a lot of developers. The Market range is far to High to obtain any User investigating for Development.
This device has a neat Stock Experience. The optimisations decreased highly with any Update of the Android version. The Graveyard of Technology is high, with all the cluttering, Invention of Removal of Bloatware, Security Improvements and alternatives of existing Modifications, Hardware that went in and out it was like launching a Rocket. Much will be missed..
In common, Developers go there where is the most of Sources provided. Mainly Google. Hardware manufacturers who change poorly their Hardware providers are favourites, like Samsung.
The Application security is Poor. So, here in the End developers meet Apple as their Dead End.
I am very disappointed because it's already the end of November and Android 10 hasn't arrived yet.
Dont make you life so tragic.
Cool !
Mi A1 and Mi A2 got their first major updates in mid/end of december, so probably Mi A3 will get in mid/end december too.
There are plenty of good ROMs based on Android 10 for our device, you can check they if you really wanna try Android 10 that much
What is the point of this post? What did I missed?
Really, I don't get it.
I was wondering about this with Mi A1 phone, but eventually I just learned to ignore/accept the fact that some people simply have unrealistic expectations based on some made up assumptions and then shout out loud their own frustration. It has probably something in common with popularity of low cost Xiaomi phones in "third world countries" (no offense). The best thing to do is to just let it slide and report topics which bring nothing good. On MI forum they're regularly deleted, hopefully XDA takes similar approach to useless topics.
Tbh, the phone is running wonderfully on Pie. This is the first time I'm not seeing any incentive to root / flash a custom rom. The big thing for me was Gcam, and Camera2API is already enabled on stock. Battery life is great too. I will not update to 10 right away, cuz there are ALWAYS issues. Just use your phone man, and enjoy what it offers.
Hello
I am having a hard time deciding whether I want to buy this phone or not. I mean when I read its specs it totally blew me away for its price, but reading people's experiences makes me steer away from it because Ive read about so many bugs in this device and I dont want a new device to be a headache for me. So what do you guys think, should I get the note 9s or should I buy samsung's A51 which has close specs and similar price?
I mainly use my phone for social media and moderate gaming. Also the development scene is very important to me especially after 1 - 2 years when the phone gets old
Really are you asking this? A51 sucks compares to this 9s...
I think the most comparable Samsung phone to RN9S is Galaxy A71 (however is little better specced, SD 730 and 64 MP main camera). If you can go for A71, go for it. I needed to sell my RN9S due to annoying bugs, don't buy if you can, at least until all bugs will be fixed.

In most things they are the same. But a51 gets too much hot during games. It's because of exynos cheepset.
I tried both. Note 9s is better than a51 Samsung.
I've been wondering whether to buy this device or not. I want to ask an experienced person. Will this device become popular in the custom community? I am looking forward to it being able to have countless custom ROMs like Redmi Note 7 series poco F1
I hope so.
I'm waiting to see which device to get. I like Xiaomi devices I hate the software.
None of the other manufacturers/ODM have the combo this has.
Good processor
rear or side fingerprint (optical is just useless)
Bootlocker unlock
Xiaomi.eu ( love hate with that. At least it's a custom rom -ish)
I wish there was a pop up camera.
Even I am waiting for it to become popular, OnePlus phones just aren't worth it anymore. I hope this gets popular soon, as soon as there is a working twrp available, I will go ahead and buy this phone.
The problem with Xiaomi is that they just make way too many phones. So it's difficult to get devs to get interested.
I think the Poco F3 has the best chance
People who do not travel have no option. Also, it's the EXACT same device just named differently everywhere, so Devs do not really have to any extra tweaking. I'm guessing, other than adding different configs so the device is recognized and flashed correctly nothing majorly deviating may be required.
Having said that the Vivo Iqoo 7 also deserves a good look this time from the modding community, it's going to sell by the bucket-loads and deservingly at that. The cams are miles better along with the 66w charging and in-built unannounced (sh*t google-dialer) call recording capability. I might just pick one up.
STAY FAR AWAY from the disaster of the 888 chips, all hail Qualcomm marketing division and Samsung fabrication.
EDIT: Sorry, seems like the wrong section, bye bye 888 K40 Pro/Mi11X Pro. No 888, even for free, do not need a portable 5nm grill.
Nobody is making any custom kernels/ROMs that I'm aware of for Mi11 or Redmi K40 Pro Plus. I sold mine (888 throttles too much, bad Qualcomm design, way too OC'd for consistent performance). Sorry for the bad news - most people are ditching their 888s in the Lineage group that I was in and they gave up on a fundraiser for it. Just these phones run way too hot and the chip is not properly configured (they tried to push it TOO FAR).... Even though the Mi11 is probably the most popular 888 out there, I only see development on OnePlus 9 / Pro series. Hate to be the spoiler here.

The issue with Vivo is they don't follow the GPL = no source code bro.
Just now, it is launched in India ( mi 11xpro ) and still people haven't receive devices yet, I am sure more people will be joining soon in some months.
If you stuck with Xiaomi well, I have no idea if any custom ROMs will be released. If so they are probably floating around China somewhere...
