I have an unlocked gs4 from Verizon and I am attempting to use it on Bell Mobility in Canada. I have an LTE sim card which I know works for LTE because I tried it on a note2 which is locked to bell. My apn is set up properly and I can get data but only H or H+. When I try to change the preferred connection to cdma/lte my signal bars go away and they are replaced with the no signal symbol, circle with a line through it. It must be a setting in the phone somewhere but I'm out of ideas. Hoping someone can help or at least point me in the right direction.
I'm a noob when it comes to adroid so go easy on me lol.

You did this on a Verizon S4 and got LTE on another carrier?
Verizon phones are 3g unlocked but only have LTE bands for Verizon LTE.

So there's no possible way to get LTE from another carrier using a Verizon device?
Any way to change the bands?

As far as I know the chip itself is only capable of supporting those bands. Hardware capabilities that can't be changed by software. Not 100% positive.

So get this...
I planned on re-selling the phone to my american friend who happened to be on verizon. So I did the factory data reset to send him a nice clean device. Just for kicks i decided to try one more time to connect to lte. I put the in the Bell LTE sim, configured APN, and selected LTE network connection... and nothing. However, there is an extra setting in there that says "Global", which was there before the reset but never worked. Pressed that... BOOM!.. LTE.
Don't know how or why it worked this time, but I'm happy.

I don't believe the hardware is capable of it. My S4 is but my One isn't. I'm pretty sure the max is the same as the one

Verizon One Max on T-Mobile LTE?
I'm curious about this as well.
HTC's spec page for the HTC One max lists "Verizon: 700/AWS MHz" under Network.
I don't know a lot about AWS, but does this indicate hardware capability of our phone?

So does that mean it's capable but Verizon hasn't enabled it? I'm not sure how I'd tell the difference on my end. My speeds are hit and miss in the Chicago area, but I figure that could be just because of the population density.

There's an AWS thread in the Verizon S4 section where people are reporting where they are getting band 4 lte. You can check there to see if anyone from Chicago has AWS. There's also instructions on how to check if your on band 4, you can probably check it the same way on this phone.

Actually the Samsung method doesn't work for us. It relies on a code that is specific to Samsung (*#0011# ). I tried *#*#4636#*#* but it did not seem to do anything on my One max unfortunately.

There is a way to do it on Verizon with script manager I believe.
Installed the new radio only on my Verizon Max. Can't say it is particularly faster ( based on speed tests). It keeps starting at 60 Mbps for upload then hangs and drops to about 5 Mbps final. Maybe its my firewall or any other number of protective mods I have going on my Max.

The *#*#4636#*#* works if you make the edits in build.prop Then you can make the change that enables the different networks.

What are the edits to make the menu appear in build prop
In build.prop change or add these if they dont exist
ro.ril.gprsclass=14
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=14
ro.ril.hsupa.category=7
ro.ril.hsxpa=2
ro.telephony.lteOnGSMDevice=1
ro.telephony.default_network=9
Also open the /system/customize/ACC/default.xml file, is a boolean variable “sku_id”. Change the value of “sku_id” to the t-mobile one.
The t-mobile one is 11
Then save the file, and reboot your device.

I have gotten 4g LTE with this method I guess...I never did get the one value with the "sku id" (never could find it) so I downloaded an app from the play store called Network and just changed it, I would get LTE for about an hour then it would just crap out so I just use 3G and HSPA with the 1900 band.
I would be interested in knowing how to enable this. big red just turned on the 4g in my area with in the last year. so i am curious if they used a newer style tower capable of the band 4 or not,

What are you asking? T-Mobile primary network is EDGE, then HSPA, then LTE. If you want to use only HSPA, you can go to settings>mobile networks>network mode. WCDMA only

Sorry, I'm coming from ATT where we had to do weird things to unlock HSPA. My issue is I'm on EDGE more than anything and things don't even load on EDGE. I remember being stuck on E sometimes on ATT, but unlocking HSPA fixed that.

There's no unlocking that Ive ever heard of. It sounds like you just get poor reception. Probably an area that doesn't get 4g or Lte. Check Tmobile coverage map.
Sent from my SM-G900T using xda app-developers app
Yeah, my guess is coverage too. Do go in and check that option that they listed above for your network type. In your situation I would try setting it to WCDMA Only - this will FORCE it to connect to 4G (HSPA+) and if you have no signal for 4g you will have 0 bars so it is a good test to see how that signal is in your area aside from the network map.
You will only be able to use T-Mobile HSPA+ if you are using a T-Mobile branded S5. The AT&T S5 does not support the 1700 AWS band from T-Mobile so you will not be able to get it and will only have access to 2G/3G/4G and LTE (no 4G+)

Thanks, I'm using a branded t mobile s5 but I'm either on edge or 4G, mostly edge. I didn't realize hspa+ was just another word for 4g. So I guess I'm stuck with edge

T-Mobile rural coverage is quite poor in most areas, however they've committed to modernizing their rural areas now that they've got the major centers but it might take a year or better to get it all done. I'm planning to go to at&t in great meantime now that their rates have come down. I'm stuck in 2g land at home and work here

what's up everyone, the nexus 6p is capable of hitting all bands for sprint spark LTE. just thought I'd start a thread for those wanting to share their speeds. this is from inside my living room, the lowest speed is my WiFi.
Sprints speeds should be improving as they are beginning to have fewer customers therefore less congestion on the network. This is a great happening for people who stay with them.

I have read 2 thoughts on that...one is MSL is 000000 because it is unlocked, and another that said Sprint assigns an MSL when activating. I will have to give it a try and see.

I was able to get my MSLs from Sprint via chat. They were not all zeros. Additionally, setting the band priority does not affect which band you sit on. It's just for the initial connection. After that it's a signal and load balancing act. Realistically you should always find yourself on the "best" band.

Thanks, I'll have to chat them up for it. Now we just need to figure out how to write PRLs.
anyone in Orlando area with Sprint that gets good speeds? Orlando supposedly one of market to get the LTE Plus rollout but ummmm I've yet to see the difference. I usually only get like 1.5 Mbps / 1 Mbps (dl / ul).
Connected to band 41 here at my place. Not bad. Totally acceptable for me.

thanks for the support
I read somewhere there are 3 versions and one of them supports band 4.

Worst case there is a guide on xda to unlock all bands.
