It's a completely stock S6 Edge, running Marshmallow. Screen got completely destroyed in a motorcycle accident but the phone is turned on. It is not in debug mode unfortunately. I'd installed a FTP server on it sometime ago but it's read only for some dumb reason... USB connection seems to be responsive.
I'm wondering if there's any way to recover the data? Like I said the screen is completely destroyed, no chance of turning on the screen or responding to touch. Mostly just need pics and videos off. Any suggestions?
Edit: Could use contacts if there's any way to pull those as well...

How do I allow the screen to remain on during a charge?
I use my phone for music in my car, but find it irratating when I have to constantly turn the screen on and enter my unlock pattern.
On other android devices there is the option to Leave the screen on during charging under Applications > Development.
Any Ideas on the Galaxy S2?
Kind Regards
Lewis
I'm pretty sure they took this out because you'd get burn-in with SAMOLED screens...
Even if you do figure out a way of how to do this I would advise you not to. The screen can get pretty bad "burn in" pretty quickly, as I had found out with my old galaxy s.
I'm having the opposite problem the screen will remain on while charging. Cannot find a setting , four example woke this morning and left the phone in the charger returned a hour latter and the screen was still on, dimmed down but still ON.
is there a way to fix this, I'm worried about burning the screen early
This is a standard android feature that was originally found in the SGS but removed in the froyo firmware upgrade, there was no reason given but it was speculated this was to minimise screen burn.
There are a number of widgets on the android market that does the same, Widgetroid is one from the top of my head but even that's a bit of an overkill. Just install to restore the functionality.
I'm using an HD2 on T-Mobile, still running the stock Windows. (haven't gotten around to slapping android on yet)
A.) ... was at work today, took the phone out of my pocket, and I couldn't get the screen to go on. The hardware buttons on the bottom would go on, and I could feel it vibrating and booting up when I powered it on, but after hard resetting(removing the battery, I mean) the screen still wouldn't go on.
.....so I go home with it powered on still, pull it out of my pocket and BAM! the screen goes on and it looks normal... but....
1.) Now the bottom 5 hardware buttons won't go off when I lock the phone. Sometimes they're dim, sometimes they're bright as if I'm using it. sometimes they flicker on and off.
2.) the screen won't brighten beyond 20%. It adjusts 10-20% fine, but sliding it from 20%-100% does nothing.
3.)In addition, whenever I hook it up to a PC to charge/transfer files, I SOMETIMES get the "This Device would work faster in USB 2.0" message. that I never got before these issues. This is confirmed by slow transfer speeds when this happens(400-600kb/s instead of the normal 3-5mb/s). This leads me to believe it could be something internal in the phone...
Worth taking to T-Mobile? Not sure what they can do for free, I bought it used about a month ago.
I Tried a factory reset recently, didn't do anything to help these problems.
I tried running it on another battery, same issues.
Think putting android on it could help any?
XDA Devs is the best around for this type of thing, so I figure there's someone on here who could give some advice. I love the phone, but these problems are awful! Thanks so much!
try re-flashing the stock ROM first (factory reset might be not enough), then if the symptoms reappear I'd think of warranty repair
My wife dropped her S6 edge a few months back and broke the back glass. Everything worked fine, though, until a few days ago when the screen suddenly stopped working. The screen displays two columns of alternating gray lines if the power button is held down for a few seconds or if the home button is pressed; otherwise the buttons seem to be non-responsive. Also, the left-most LED is illuminated solid purple almost all the time. I brought it to a repair shop, and they said it was a broken LCD. (Not sure why the LED would stay illuminated then, but whatever.)
I'm trying to figure out if there's any way to get the data off the phone without dropping $300 to replace the LCD. It's not rooted, and USB debugging isn't enabled. Also, she already got a replacent phone and swapped out the SIM, for what that's worth. I'm also 90% sure she never created a Samsung account and, in any event, i think it would be moot since she's swapped phones, no? Basically, I only really care about the pictures of our kids, but she unfortunately didn't have Google photos sent to sync, either.
Additionally, neither Windows Explorer nor Samsung Smart Switch recognizes it when you plug it in. I've tried attaching it to both a mouse and a keyboard via OTG adaptor to try to unlock the pass code (numerical, not pattern), but it doesn't seem like that worked because nothing happened after doing that and then plugging it into my computer. I was going to try the trick of hooking it up to my TV to mirror the screen, but I've read that the S6 Edge doesn't support MHL, so that seems like a bust.
Any and all thoughts greatly appreciated.

I have a Galaxy S6 Edge whose screen turns on at semi-random intervals when sitting idle. The best advice I've gotten so far is to factory reset, but I'd like to be a bit more scientific: Is there a dev app I could run that logs screen/button/software events that I could filter to find out why the screen keeps turning on? If it's hardware, I can probably get it repaired or replaced under warranty, but I'd really like to just fix it if I can determine it's software.

Hi everyone,
I'm sure this question has been asked by many users, but for some reason none of the ones I read seem to match the problems with my S6 Edge.
The other day I was playing music Youtube on my 3 year old S6 edge (for like 30min) and I forgot that autoplay was off, so the screen turned off, within 10 seconds of it doing so, I pressed the home button to 'wake it up again', but the screen won't turn on. the phone reboots once by itself but the screen remains off, and I know the phone's on because of the blinking LED light of messages, or the red when it is charging. The backlight lights up too, and it seems the screen's touch system works, as I am able to turn it off. I wait for a couple of minutes before hard resetting it (Volume down+Power key) and the screen lights up again and it's all good.
However, I have noticed this happening way too many times lately and noticed a bit of a trend. It usually happens when I use any app (except the music app) for 30 minutes or more, and if I manage to keep the screen awake, it works perfectly fine. The problem begins when the screen sleeps due to inactivity, or is voluntarily turned off. It also heats up quite a bit.
I am on the latest firmware, and have already formatted the phone once and tried, yet the problem persists. With that I suppose we can rule out that the problem is due to any third party app, or due to not updating the firmware. I also replaced the motherboard last year at a reputable phone repair shop, so I think it's a safe bet to say that's not the issue, but I am not 100% sure (the problems began 6 months after I 'unrooted' the phone, after replacing the motherboard).
As I kept going with it, it kept getting worse until eventually, now the phone is in a constant state of 'screen off but phone on', where it charges, plays music, can receive calls and messages, but cannot turn on the screen. I kept trying at 15 minute intervals to no avail, even though the phone is at room temperature.
Before I go blow a couple more 100 bucks on fixing this, I would like to hear all of your opinions on what the problem might be (and hopefully the solution).
Thanks in advance.
i have the same problem but i have the galaxy s7 edge. often i can unlock my phone but my screen will stay black. no aod or backlight but the vibration from unlocking with fingerprint is there and the sounds of opening an app are also there...
