Also do u know if ill still be gettin the oficial updates? Does it matter or no? I jus want to be able to get the latest updates as they come out
I don't know the answer about OTA updates after rooting, but to be honest, I'd be surprised if another OTA update ever happens for the Hero.

Oh ok n also I was readi thru my phone n it shows that what he's doin is instalin a costum rom n wouldn't do erase everythin on my phone?
Yes, installing a custom ROM would erase everything on your phone (although he also instructs you on how to do a nandroid backup of your previous setup). However, if all you want to do is root the phone you can do that without having to do any of the other stuff. Just download, install, and run Universal Androot as instructed in that thread, and you should have root without doing any other changes to the phone or your data.
Unfortunately rooting the T-Mobile G2 Touch isn't as simple as rooting a standard Hero GSM, T-Mobile made it quite difficult. I would suggest following this thread or using this tool
And if you don't install a custom rom or a rooted stock rom, your recovery will be overwritten, and you'll lose root on the first reboot.
The unrooted stock rom overwrites the recovery when rebooted.
Correct me if I'm wrong

Good point, I think you right in which case you will need to install a rooted stock ROM at the very least, which would mean wiping all your data
Sorry, I didn't know the G2 required a different rooting method.
Anyways, on my standard unlocked Hero I did not loose root when rebooting on the stock ROM, although as you said it did overwrite my recovery. I do not know if this is the case on the G2.

T-Mobile did some pretty nasty stuff security-wise compared to the standard GSM Hero so rooting is a bit different. As for what happens on reboot I can't comment, but I would recommend using a custom ROM anyway, something like [email protected]'s MCR is great for someone who just wants it working like stock but with better performance. You should be able to add something like FlyKernel to it for the overclock.

Agreed. Once you go custom, you won't go back.
Guys, I think he's actually talking about T-Mobile G2 as in http://www.gsmarena.com/t_mobile_g2-3518.php, and not T-Mobile G2 Touch (HTC Hero). Notice the system specs in the first post

http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...cess_.28Permanent_Root_.2F_.22Permaroot.22.29
i already downloaded all the files needed
i wanna know if this would be the best choice for me
all i want is ROOT to overclock my phone thats it
i DONT want to have a CUSTOM ROM or anything lik that
the only reason i want ROOT is to make my phone FASTER
and i dont wanna loose none of my info or data in my phone or sd card

Yes, that one is the best. Works on Desire Z and Desire HD too. Worked fine on my Desire HD.
Please, switch to G2 forum from now on, as this thread is offtopic in this one.
sucessful tmobile G2 temp root using VISIONary r14 this morning!
I tried ROOT on my new tmobile G2 (GSM) I bought last week. I tried Universal Androot AND z4root and neither worked to get even temp root.
This morning, I used VISIONary r14 and sucessfully gained su root and disabled a few of the branding and blotware apps on MY phone! I still haven't been able to uninstall them completely, but at least they aren't starting automatically on boot. Here's the link that worked:
android.modaco.com/content/software/320350/19-nov-r14-visionary-one-click-root/
these branded apps are WAY annoying! I'm not good with outfits like facebook and twitter having access to all my personal info and data, including fine GPS location!! and I can hardly believe tmobile imbedded these apps as they did. I'm still within my 14-day trial and may still return the phone because of this unless I can be sure I can get these apps OFF my back!

The build is alright. Thats the right one on my phone bought at a store.
As for checking if it has been rooted. Phones that are rooted with DG;s aRoot can be unrooted via the script he provided so it maye be hard to check.
Is there a superuser app in the drawer? That would be a dead giveaway too.
Saw from this post and someof your others your concern about prior mod of your phone. If I were you I'd be more worried about the hardware than the existing software on your device. Youcan always flash the SBF for a fresh software load, and get some usages to stock in the process, but get one of the flakey ATRIX units that slipped by logos QC and where doesthatleave you?
Try installating an aapplication that requires root to see if it runs.
However whether it is or not when you got it, I would flash back to stock and start over.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
Another way to do it too is to get the 'terminal emulator' from the market, load it up and type su at the prompt. if it goes NOWAIGTFO then you aren't rooted.

There's an app in the market called Root Checker. It's main purpose is to tell you if you have root or not
If possible can someone point me in the right direction...? Ive read you can roll back but I can only find threads with explinations for rooted phones & my luck being the way it is got the G3 on the day the came out with 11C. Thanx in advance everyone & appreciate all the time put into this site
Either the kdz or tot approaches.

Note that these approaches use different flash tools, and you have to be careful to use the right drivers in your PC.
Once you return to 10b, you may want to root and turn off System Updates. There are some rumblings that lg may make it difficult in the future.

Thanx for your response, I found the thread on how to disable OTA's.. This is a noob question but after I roll back then root, do I need to install Bump!...? N do I have to unlock bootloader? If I no, would I need to unlock it to install G3 Xposed? I want to theme my G3 n having Verizon they went as far as taking out the ****ing Theme option but I got it anaways but u cant do anything really. Once I get a lil more experienced at this whole root thing I want to install custom roms n all that but unfortunalty I dont feel comfortable going that far yet & I just got this phone and dont have money to **** it up yet :silly:
Thanx for any help with this, its greatly appreciated & if theres a thread that woud explain the steps I would need to take and any additional details on them that would be great to get a link

You only need root for exposed. 'Bump'ing the bootloader allows you to install a custom recovery so you can flash ROMs and kernels, make nandroid backups, etc.
i messed up my phone and i need a new rom to flash it to or whatever else i gotta do. i guess its called flashing the firmware. or rom. i dont know the process or what i need i just know i need the rom to flash to it.
thank you so much. i really need this fixed and sold so i can leave country with a bit extra cash

Unfortunately there is no rom available for this current device. We're u able to get root on this device or did it just mess up on u? If u have a root method post do tell me cuz I just got the phone myself with no luck on rooting it
well there now guys and gals I did it, I OEM signed a prerooted custom rom and flashed it onto a locked bootloader device(LGL84VL Straight Talk LG Stylo 3) with LGUP and a modified lgl83bl dll. So I am seeking good hearted folks that think like me and believe we should actually own the things we pay for, and can help debug test etc im only looking at LG right now but im willing to share with the right people this method (if all OEMS are as sloppy as LG bootloaders and twrp is going to be a thing of the past) if someone else want to try another OEM its going to be a lot of work but I believe in the end it will pay out and the hard part is already taken care of Looking forward to hearing from you soon now im fricking exhausted been up over 2 days straight workin on this Goodnight yall much love and many blessings your way

Does it work? Did you get a working root this way? What could I do to get my hands on that file and try it out myself?

I got it to work with a few different models yes full root, im sorry i dont understand what you mean by "file" for each I had to uild a custom rom then RSA sign the firmware file.
I got an lg l84vl, been looking for any way to root or get my hands on a custom rom, I was wondering if you'd be able to share your ROM you've developed for it so I could flash it to my phone and try it out?
