LG V10 - kind of original foil? - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have got my new V10, unboxed it and noticed that there is a kind of "originally put foil or glass" on the phone. I'm really new to smartphones and my question is: is it the Gorilla Glass or can i take this off for example when it scratches?

I assume this is the factory screen protector, it isn't very high end and mostly there for shipping. You can remove this at anytime. Maybe keep on until you get a new higher quality screen protector (tempered glass is the way to go) but something is better than nothing

[Q] Possible to replace Gorrilla Glass 2 with Gorilla Glass 1 or 3 on 920?

Hello, does anyone know if it's possible to replace the Gorilla Glass 2 on the 920 with Gorilla Glass 1 or 3? The glass on my Zune HD was amazing - after using it for years I couldn't get any scratches on it, but on both my 900 and 920 I got scratches within the first few weeks of using it. I've purchased a screen protector on Amazon, but wondering if there's any way to purchase a replacement touch screen for the 920 made of another type of glass? Installing it's not a problem, but are there any retailers who sell Gorilla Glass 1/3 screens for it, or do you have to be an OEM to get Gorilla Glass?

You can't do that because obviously nobody has produced one so far, and most likely never will...also, your problem is probably related to the fact that the Zune HD didn't have oleophobic coating, while instead modern phones with GG tend to have it. Probably the scratches you noticed aren't even on the glass itself but on the coating. When you manage to scratch the real glass you can tell it by the fact that you're able too actually feel the scratch with your fingernail. Don't get me wrong tho, GG can still be scratched, no matter what, it's just tougher in general, so it's all up to your luck if you decide to go naked. If you wanna be 100% safe a screen protector is the only option, while instead if you wanna keep the natural look and feel of the glass while still having some sort of scratch protection the best option IMHO is picking one of those flip cases, at least the screen won't slide against the stuff you may happen to have in your pockets. You can either pick the one from Nokia, the CP600, or some of the cases from Nillkin which are cheaper and very decent too. I've ordered one myself, but shipping from Asia takes ages. I'll definitely post a review as soon as I get it.

Thanks for the information, I hadn't considered that it might be because of the coating. I got a screen protector for it so I'm happy Thanks!

Usingpens and pencils on the screen

Has anyone else found that when using pencils and pens on the screen that they scratch the hell out of their screens. And it is now pssing me off knowing i have really scratched it beauces of doing something they said you can do. Especially since the screen is meant to be scratch resistant.
Yea it's actually an anti shatter film. not so much a scratch resistant layer. I just put a screen protector on top of mine before I started testing out the handwriting thing. once it scratches I just replace it. gotta do some research before doing some of the sketchy stuff. for example, I have yet to try out the phones water proofing. I know it can be done but should I do it as a test? ehh ill probably just take their word for it. lol

Well yeah this is Sony main weaknesses.. but one of their main strength too.. Saw that Xperia Z1 drop test? not a crack on the screen (compared to the S4 for example). Why? well the shatter proof does its job.. but unfortunately, the scratch resistant nature is only embedded on the screen below it.. so like any other phone, please buy yourself a new screen protector. even my previous Gorilla Glass RAZR MAXX is scratched after 8 months of use.. Better protected than never..

I put a gearmaxxx ultra clear screen protector on D1, scratched on day 3 I think, trying to write on the device with a pencil.
Then I got an anti glare no brand screen protector, really good, scratched 5 days ago trying if pencils or metal objects could write under water, as several sites report that as working. Of course it didn't work, but then I obviously scratched the screen protector again.
By then the Chinese glas.t knock off had arrived, so I put that on. Some days later I impressed my dad and my daughter with a pen on it, and she began drawing with the Sketch app.
Wanna know how it ended?
Even the tempered glass got scratched.
Bottom line is, everything get scratched sooner or later.
If you can live with few scratches on your screen and change screen protector every now and then, do as you please, but as far as I'm concerned, I'm not writing on the screen with anything besides my fingers anymore, I'm sick of changing screen protectors, and the original anti shatter film on the device is a pain in the arse to remove if you scratch that.
And if you manage to remove that too, you'll most definitely lose your warranty (other than the Sony logo).

Well you could try to find a softer stylus like one on the note 3 though.. or maybe that cp12 embedded stylus could be the perfect solution.. Or like how the zu was advertised, write on the paper on top of the z ultra.. It is meant for carbon copy device..

I am almost certain that the shatterproof protector they put on their phones only keeps the shards of the broken glass in, so you don't cut yourself or anything. Shatterproof protectors don't actually stop the phone from breaking, whatever glass Sony is using just must be really tough.

With some plastic on top I'm sure there is some resistance to shatter because it absorbs some of the shock rather than directly to the glass itself..

Possibly yes but a shatterproof sheet itself does not stop the glass to break, despite the misleading name. It merely keeps the shards in when it does break. I'm sure the Z1's sturdiness is more from Sony's strong glass and frame of the phone than the sheet on they put on the screen

Who needs a screen protector? Make stock glass oleophobic

I took off my stock screen protector a while ago and installed a tempered glass screen protector since the stock glass has no oleophobic coating and feels a little sticky. Well my screen protector chipped so I removed it and applied a coat of rain x. It feels great! Still slightly more sticky than gorilla glass but much better than the stock glass. I applied some to the back glass too just for protection under my case. The glass is more shiny and attracts fingerprints less. Any fingerprints are wiped off easier. I highly recommend using rain x instead of a screen protector after removing the stock layer. Now I'm pissed that I spent so much on those stupid screen protectors that are hard to apply perfectly and chip/crack after a few months.
..exactly what tempered screen protector did you buy? You have a link?
Great idea!!
Might use this on my new mobile phone, as I am looking to upgrade to this model.

I started with the one everyone on here recommends, m-glass. I got some crap under the front glass so I ordered the explosion proof front protector off amazon. The front protector chipped near the microphone after a few months and when I removed my case I noticed the m-glass back had cracked. The glass protectors feel nice but are too expensive and not durable imo.

...okay..... there is not much details to judge if either you handled the product wrong or if its a design fault
Myself I have the mocolo instead http://glass4m.com/collections/sony/products/mocolo-for-sony-xperia
Before and still I have coated my glass with http://gtechniq.com/shop/3s-for-cars/kits/g1-g4-clearvision-screen-kit/
Think of getting illumishield screen protectors front and back ? to preserve mobile ? Phone .

Just put illumishield screen protectors front and back on my Z Ultra, looks good, except for detritus and bubbles underneath.
And I put them over the screen, without taking off the film.
Screen is very responsive, so impressed.

Not sure if you want to be in regular contact with those chemicals: http://goo.gl/yLmN1d
Known eye irritant.
May want to consider something less toxic like http://goo.gl/le5xtW if you want to go down this road.
So, I did this. Looks like a lot of forums have threads about Rain-X yielding positive results.
I also found this post and followed one of the comments.
Not sure if its available everywhere, but for glass coating I use Gtechniq G5. It lasts way longer than Rain X.
Applying is the same for both, tho.. The trick is to clean the screen as good as possible, and use something alcohol-based to make the surface free of residue from the cleaners. Put some G5/Rain X on a cotton patch and apply it in a THIN layer on the glass in "up and down" movements (not circular). Let it sit for a while (2-5min), then apply a new layer the same way on top of the previous layer and let that sit for a while again. Use a clean hot water-moist microfiber cloth to buff it off, and a dry one after.
Let the glass cure for a couple of hours (NO TOUCHING), and your good to go. The G5 coating should last for at least 6 month, and your glass screen should be resistant to dust and fluids. MUCH easier to clean too!

My phone feels a lot better now (ASF Removed) and it even seems to have reduced phantom touches.

Nice! I'm in need of another coat of Rain-X, it definitely wears off. Let us know if you try the G5.

Screen Protector pre-installed?

Hello all,
Can somebody tell if there is a screen protector pre-installed? I thought I heard it in an unboxing video but have not heard others about it. If so, how is the quality?
Reason for the question is just seeing a review of the quick cover and someone is pointing out the hard inside of the cover can scratch the screen
Thanks

All phones come with some type of sheet over the screen. It's within carrier's discretion to print on it or not. My AT&T came with print but T-Mobile version does not. However I wouldn't call it a protector... Mostly just to keep the screen from getting dirty.

Mine came with one and its like any other screen protector in the market and not the thick useless one that is normally there to protect the screen from scratches. Still rocking it.
It looks like mine has a screen protector. Its so firmly applied I thought it was the edge of the glass until another forum member pointed it out.
yeah my h850 came with a normal film style screen protector, pity it stops short of the top of the screen
None of them came with a screen protector, it's just a normal procedure to put a protective film, most manufacture does this.
And yes LG had two different film, one that has full coverage and one which is square, both are very thin, and will only protect from minor scratches.
My H860 came with a squarish protective film also. I used it for about half a day and tore it off after it got all smudged up because it couldn't be cleaned easily
Mine came sealed and with a pre installed protector. Not the dodgy ones that carriers supposedly put on. It covered the entire screen and lined up perfectly.
Unfortunately the case made it bubble so I took it off.
These are not screen protectors its wraping.

It's not a screen protector, just a manufacturer preinstalled protective film, as stated in one of my posted it came either in a square one or a full cover one, the only protection it will give is from finger print and minor scratch.
Just because it looks like one doesn't mean it is one.
I beg to differ it is of the same consistency and quality of most resin screen protectors it covers the entire screen ..... therefore it's a screen protector ? Move on ?

While the factory fitted full screen protectors are not by any means a guaranteed quality screen protector... They are a screen protector.
I will continue to keep mine on until it shows any signs of failure....none so far after a few weeks.
Inevitability it is down to how you take care (or don't) of your phone.
Phone has been in a case since day one and bought screen protectors on standby.
If it weren't a screen protector it would have text on it stating things like don't text and drive or pointing to things on the device... I had a bunch of those in the past. If it's completely (emphasis on completely) clear, then it's protector. If it's not clean or clear then it's not a protector.

printing is dependent on countries and carriers, just because it's clear and fits well, doesn't mean it's a protector, I stand by my words, it's not a proper protector.

And I totally respect your opinion. I've owned so many devices and for each device I always buy a few different types of screen covers and many are made of different materials. My partners old G4 came with a transparent film as you'd say that was the perfect dimensions, same as the screen protectors I had on my G4 and G5. So.... Screen protector in my eyes as it... Wait for it... Protects the screen! Lol.

Like the OP, I also wanted to use the official LG G5 Quick Cover case and wondered if the phone had a screen protector / film pre-installed. Bought a set of screen protectors ahead of time just in case but fortunately, the LG G5 H831 models I got did include screen protector / film pre-installed.
If you like your screen covered, suggest you use the pre-installed one until there's a concensus on a good PET or tempered glass protector. Don't fall for the Amazon reviews. Annoying how Amazon allows vendors to bunch protectors or accessories for different phones all together. A screen protector made well for one phone, doesn't necessarily mean the cut out / quality will be good for another.
What does seem good to know is from most reviews I've read the vendor(s) / seller(s) stood by their product good or bad and usually are helpful.
Received my phone yesterday and in the Netherlands it does come with some sort of screen protector, can't say much about the quality of the protector but for now it is sufficient. Now hoping I get my silver quick cover quickly.

LG v30 oleophobic coating gone.

Hardly used my v30 for 2 months and the oleophobic coating is already gone. As soon as i wipe the phone screen with a clean cloth and use it for 5 min, i already see fingerprints on the whole screen. Anybody experienced this? Any resolutions? Don’t seem to find tempered glass anywhere for this phone as it has curved screens.
If you live in Europe this may help: https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B077JYR4BL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Also it's possible to order from USA or other countries in the World but there are shipping costs (example: USA 9€+5€ (aprox. 16$))
I use this glass and I'm very happy with it.
Regards
mkpcxxl
When I first bought my phone a year ago, I had the employee at Verizon put on a tempered glass covering for me. He did a good job, but the glass eventually started coming loose around the edges, letting dirt, fuzz, hair and small things get under it somewhat. Very irritating. The glass only had a small line of glue around the outer edge to hold it on. It finally fell completely off about a month ago.
A couple of weeks ago, I went back into a Verizon store to see if they could put another tempered glass covering on for me. But, I've found that the American Verizon stores that I went in does not carry any or very little LG accessories such as tempered glass covering. What I finally did was have them put on a "liquid glass" covering for me. This was quite expensive having them do it in store, but I think you can probably order it on line a lot cheaper.
The draw back is, I think, a big one. It is on there permanently. I don't know if there is a way to get it off if you get scratches on it. After 3 weeks or so, mine is still looking pretty good with no visible scratches, yet. It wipes off pretty clean, still (don't know how long all this will last).
It's an option if you can't find tempered glass.
