Found this URL, supposed to be the ICS update for US tablets :
http://info.update.sony.net/ST002/nbx03_001/contents/0014/signed-nbx03_001-ota-120410004.zip
Maybe there's something to do with it if it's the real one.
I think of disabling or deleting the region check in the "installation" script embedded in the zip before rooting, signing and flashing with Condi's tool. This may avoid the tablet's region changing.
Maybe it can help bricked devices owners, if they can find a way to push a modded build.prop to their tablet with adb from the only working recovery mode and then ask for an update from sd card.
Hope so...
PS
Can't do any testing myself, I'm still in HC 3.2.1 (France) and still not rooted (kernel #10)

Its US ICS, the same as I've posted from the first day it was released.
Nothing new to check

Oh... Must have think of it
And what about disabling the region check in the zip's install script rather than changing tablet's region ? It may be easier to do and may give us a kind of universal zip leading to US tablets without any care of their original region...
Could someone explain how I can find such a link for a new firmware e.g for Germany?
How did you find or get this link Condi?

This can be done I'm in the middle of v2.8, its ready in 3/4.
Gonna try to create some script which will disable region thing from update-script. Very good idea Sometimes the simple is the best
The update still got to have proper entry to every region - gonna make universal one for all the regions I've got
Goood, very gooooooood
I've found that working on tab in garden is very niceeee
edit---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'have just made universal fw file for (I think all of) combinations/variants of the region - 1000 of possibilities
Now all you will gonna need is to use _hack_recovery and custom zip.
But wait a minute - hmm... we've got 2 versions of _hack_recovery and we still gonna need
to have device with region which is directly supported, or still change region if there is any other.
Its becoming pointless I think.. the script already adds region code to detailedSKU.lst file,
which is check in recovery for the region.
All we can do for now is to completly cut off region updating from update-script,
but in order to flash custom zip device still needs to have hackable region.
If I could take a look on a recovery.log of just bricked device (with corrupted region),
then I could make 100% safe solution..

Also maybe it would be a good idea to include in scripts some checks that find out what region an user has on his tablet and - on this basis - the script will make a proper update file...
I mean: it would be maybe better for script to check the region currently on the tablet than leave users with the prompt for choosing their region, manually...

Take a look into AiO script - its does exactly making what you have written.
1) if region needs to be temporarly changed - then it makes update thinks that its upgrading for example US region - but its already replaced correct region.
for example you've got GERMAN region before flash - use custom zip, script changes temporarly to US to get through update which updates GERMAN region!
Code:
copy backups\region.zip tmp\27550199\region.zip
So its already done. Look guys at some users posts - obicom wrote that he has german region.zip and US vendor.prop. Region changing works just great. Only some I think 'different revision' devices got problems with it. Or its a user mistake.

Hello,
I have purchased Asus ZenFone in China, its great phone, but unfortunately doesn't support Google Services, so I can use native Google apps and Market Play, what I need is little help with some custom ROM in order to install it on my phone!
Thanks a lot
You can download gapps and install it as regular apps, you just need to enable developer mode and check in option to install 3rd party apps which are not from playstore.

Hi, if you are okay to use International ROM which support Google Services you can cross SKU to WW ROM. To change SKU from CN to WW, please use the similar ROM Version as your current ROM Version as shown in your phone. Download the ROM from ASUS website.
Update method, either copy to Internal Storage or ADB sideload.
After you cross SKU from CN to WW, update your ROM to V1.14.40.50 WW ROM.
REMEMBER: Do not update to V1.15.40.35 ROM onwards if you haven't update to V1.14.40.50. ROM.

Hello,
Thank you for your answer, I think that it could work.
The only thing is that my ROM is: ASUS_T00G_CN_user_1.16.40.8
What to do in this case? Can I roll-back to some older ROM?
Thanks a lot
Please read my post. In your case, you need to downgrade to 1.14.
Remember, read through everything to see the whole picture what you should have done. Driver, root, turn on USB debug, etc...

can i download rom and Flash of
m8s+ firmware for m8s
kindly suggest me
Sent from my XT1068 using XDA Forums
apparently you can, however you will have problems with your wifi (IIRC) - from what i've gathered so far these things can be temperamental and if you've got a clone unit you may run into trouble
I have one of the M8S S812 OTT boxes and want to replace Android with Openelec. I have found a few .zip file ports of Openelec but I am stuck at the first hurdle. My particular box is crippled by intent as it doesn't have ADB developer settings in its Android settings menu and additionally it doesn't seem to have an Android recovery Partition. I was hoping there might be a simple Android based tool to install a version of TWRP (which I have found two compatible versions). The surprising thing is it is ROOTED by default.
I confirmed this state of affairs by installing some boot to recovery apps which simply reboot the box. Is there a way to do this via SSH which I can probably get setup.
My motivation is two fold, the box is to be used purely as a TV client and MPG2 decoding is marginal so removing the CPU overheads of Android can only help.
Any help would be appreciated.
I have succesfully upgraded firmware using SDcard from here:
https://www.entertainmentbox.com/latest-m8s-firmware-download/
It comes included with their own version of Kodi(EBMC) 16.1
M8S runs better than original rom and works flawless. (update OTA works again)

I grabbed that but didn't install it successfully. Its an OTA update which don't work with TWRP. I might have to work out how to restore the Android recovery partition so that I can try this with OTA firmware.
Cheers for the heads up, now how to get the recovery partition back without flashing a whole new firmware img file.
Shoog
Snabbletax, can you tell me which version of Android this ROM contains. Its only going to be worth updating if it is Lollipop.
Edit: I attempted to get this working on my box but it failed the signature test. I am going to have to reload TWRP and recover my last backup since it did pick up another ROM which took me way back to square one.
I suspect that the only upgrade path for me is to find a full ROM img file to burn - but there are none of those about.

Hi, i have a android tv box X96-w+ (S905w) and need stock rom for it.
I found that there are 2 model the X96-W ( no Bluetooth ) and X96-w+ ( with Bluetooth ).
I found 2614189 X96 TV box ROM firmware pack.img this rom but its for the X96-w ( no Bluetooth ).
Have tried also others like TX3_MAX_2_16_OS7.1.2_32_stable_online.img; TX3_MINI_1_8_OS7.1.2_32_stable_online.img; TX3_MINI_L_1_8_OS7.1.2_32_stable_online.img.
only the TX3_MAX_2_16_OS7.1.2_32_stable_online.img lets turn the Bluetooth on.
All the roms i tried including the one for the X96-w does not allow to update google play store.
Allways gives error, saying that the packages is damages, and using twrp with gapps gives error 20.
So i apreciate if some one has a working rom for this box.
I would prefer the Stock rom but if other rom would by available with Bluetooth and playstore updated would by golden.
Tanks in advance.

Sorry
Test stock rom
https://chinagadgetsreviews.com/download-android-7-1-2-stock-firmware-for-x96-mini-tv-box-2.html
I will test that rom then.
A point of concern this roms are for the x96 mini not the x96-w+
Because the roms are not specific for this box could that make the google play store not updatable ?
The only rom that works with no problems is the one for stock x96-w (no bluetooth ).
But if i use ota to uptate the rom i lose the abiliti to update google play store reverting back to stock version 7 of the app.
Is there a stock rom for the x96-w+ ( with bluetooth ) ?
The roms for the x96 mini are for a diferent box.
They work but not let update google play store and bluetooth does not work also.
I am still looking for stock rom for the box x96-w+ with bluetooth and updatable google play store.
Please, can some one help ?
Stock rom or nandroid. Please!!! Help!!!!

Hi, did it work? Bluetooth and everyting?
Hello,
My friend has a Formuler model: IPTV and some of the newer apps are not loading. Can anyone suggest a ROM compatible with this android box, so that I try to install it for him?
And if available, should I install it via the USB burning tool?
Also, can I install like an image (as a backup) in case the new ROM fails to install?
Many thanks
By the way, I had installed the ATV Experience ROM on my Mecool Android box. Would that be compatible maybe?
