Hi
So I've had my Samsung SIII for just over 18 months, and it's all worked fine etc. I've never rooted it or anything.
But this morning it will not boot up. When I try to switch it on the start up sequence happens, but it gets stuck on the flashing Samsung splash screen. If I turn it off it just restarts and ends up back on that screen. The only way to stop it is to take the battery out.
I've tried starting it in recovery mode (power+home button+vol up), but the standing, open android just flashes and I end up with the android lay down with the red exclamation mark from there. It then loops between the two androids and the Samsung SIII start up logo screen. I have tried to press the volume buttons whilst on the red exclamation mark screen but cannot get to anywhere from it.
However, it will load the download mode (power+home button+ vol down) just fine.
I have looked all over but most people encountering anything similar have rooted their devices, which I have not.
Also, last week I lost all of my contacts which were stored on the device (I don't know why) but that might have something to do with it.
I don't particularly want to hard reset the phone and lose everything, but if it's the only solution I will do.
Thanks.
In download mode is the product number shown or a blank?
If it shows i9300 then you have a good chance of flashing either a full stock rom or a rescue firmware (see general forum) using odin. You will need to factory reset in recovery afterward, but your data is almost certainly unrecoverable.
If the product number is blank then you have partial SDS and require a new motherboard.

Do has boomboomer said above but as a last resort before flashing back to stock or a rescue firmware if you flash PhilZ recovery in download mode with odin. You then have a Aroma option in PhilZ recovery to browse and copy phone files so you may be able to recover some data pictures etc.
Please read PhilZ thread >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860 << and the special features thread about Aroma file manager in post #3
Please note use as a last resort to get your data back! and read everything! Also all this is presuming you can get into PhilZ recovery after flashing..
I'm having the same problem , been looking through lots of topics. When I switch on the phone it's not booting android guy lays on his back. Download mode and Android Recovery are in my range.
I've been trying to flash stock-firmware from sammobile.com with ODIN but no effect , I mean It all went OK in Odin Operation list than fially phone reset and PASS. But this android guy is still laying on his back and making fun of me xD
Before trying to get back to stock ROM, I've had rooted phone and installed RR with 4.4.2 for S3, now I don't have a clue what shall I do next ...

I have solved my problem with this lying android guy on his back , after trying to get back stock. So the thing was on my phone there have been left the kernel from Resurection Remix , I have updated it to Custom Kernel from this topic
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2563562
And my newest version of stock firmware is swimming very nice I hope This will help someone
Hi, I hope you can help me as I am clueless about my phone...
I had the stock 4.1.2 firmware on my phone and wanted to update to Slimkat 4.2, so I first flashed the Siyah-s2-v6.0b5 kernel, check if the device is rooted and booted into recovery.
In recovery I did the factory reset, wiped the cache and formated the system partition.
Then the mistake happened and instead of flashing the Slimrom firmware I kept my finger to long on the swipe enabled recovery and selected "Reboot now" by mistake...
Basically since then my phone can only enter the Download mode (at least). I cannot enter recovery and I cannot boot it.
I flashed the Stock 4.1.2 firmware again but the problem remains. Directly after flashing the firmware when the phone gets rebooted I can see the white Samsung logo (where the yellow triangle would appear with a rooted kernel), then instead of showing to boot animation it switches to the charging screen but it does not charge (battery is and keeps grey).
I also put in another battery just for the case but that didn't change anything of course...
I hope you can help me, else I have the first brick for my wall of shame...
P.S. The stock firmware I use is "I9100XWLSD_I9100DBTLS7_DBT" from sammobile.
Can you still boot to download mode? If not, then look for a USB JIG.
Hi,
I am using a SGS2 international version.
I had downloaded CM 11 and was fine with it. Then a notification pop-up saying incremental update, which I proceeded downloading. In the middle of upgrading the firmware (the android with the spinning hexagon in the middle), the phone froze, hexagon and the progress bar no longer moved. Then I proceeded to restart the phone by long press the on button. I noticed the phone does not move after the initial load screen with the SGS2 logo and the yellow warning sign. Did not even boot to the cynogenmod blue spinning logo.
I can press the power+home+up/down button and a menu comes out regarding downloading firmware. I have also managed to get into the CWM recovery menu v6.0.4.5 with the black top hat and the orange arrow. Also, if I press the three buttons, the odin mode comes out with the:
product name:
custom binary download: Yes (1 counts)
current binary: custom
It says downloading and do not turn off screen
Not sure what else to do. Battery charging while the phone is off is working. Is this phone bricked? Is there a way to recover it?
Just wipe your system and flash cm11 zip
hey,
so i recently had my s7 edge fixed because of the green and purple stripes problem.
since i got it back i wasn't able to update it and the phone was pretty laggy i tried updating it with smart switch and when it completed the download i got a blue screen telling me "installing system updates" then suddenly a dead android appeared with an exclamation mark and i was booted into recovery mode.
no matter how many times i reset or reboot i get the same triangle and get booted into recovery mode and i can only access recovery mode and odin mode.
my device won't start up at all.
please help!?
ps:
i tried flashing the phone with odin many times with the latest software for my phone version from sammobile and the same thing happened over and over.
My phone cannot boot into the OS. I would like to back up the photos directly in the recovery mode using USB cable+PC before factory reset.
Before the problem happened, my phone was attempted to update the software for about a week. Since it did not have enough free space, it prompted me to either free up more space or do the update later. I always hit update later. Until 3 days ago in the morning, my phone restarted (perhaps attempted to update) and stuck at the red Verizon screen and cannot power off unless power off from bootloader or Android recovery. I have tried to go to Safe mode but the phone just would not go past the red Verizon screen. If I go to Android Recovery by hitting power+volume up+home buttons together, it says system update (blue screen)-->update fail (blue screen with a dead robot)-->Android Recovery (black screen). In the Android Recovery, I have tried to wipe cache partition but still cannot get into the OS.
Now, I am hoping to back up the photos in my phone from a PC with a USB cable directly in the recovery mode. My phone is not rooted and does not have TWRP or any recovery app installed. When I connect the phone to a PC, the icon in notification (bottom right of Windows 10) shows that the PC can find my phone. However, when I go to "This PC", the phone does not show up in the "Devices and Drives." I have also tried Samsung Smart Switch and it cannot find the phone.
Please help! Thank you.
