moto e XT1524 general stabilty - E 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My XT1524 has a habit of going bonkers for no reason.
Random freezes. Strange behaviour. Blank screens.
I've tried
Various ROMs.
A gapps minimal/open gapps nano.
Using custom kernels
Using xposed
Not using custom kernels
Not using xposed.
What im saying is these problems are not down to one obvious factor.
The latest dirty unicorns ROM 10.5 is working flawlessly, but latest CM13 nightly keeps freezing and rebooting.
I don't have said issues on CM12.1, but it does lag especially during chrome/browser sessions
Flashed stock recently and my surnia was well behaved for several days, then it started randomly rebooting.
Only using around 10 apps, with SD as portable.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated, but bear on mind I've been testing solidly over the past month and cannot fathom what is causing this strange behaviour.

Reboots with Liquid AOKP rom.

Lately I have been experiencing reboots with this ROM, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1948065. It seems to occur when the data is being used heavily but that is just a speculation. It could also be during heavy RAM use. Also I believe it has happened when the phone switches from LTE to CDMA. Example, today I was on a website using Chrome, inserted some text and pressed a link. Then the reboot happened. I used a previous version of the ROM and just installed the latest one today and formatted everything like usual and I have been re-installing all of my applications from the Play Store instead of a backup service.
I hope the information I have given helps
Thank you ahead of any help that is posted.

[Q] Constant random reboots - EVERY ROM - EVERY KERNEL

I have been researching threads, and I can't find anyone with the same problem. My I717 loves to reboot itself for seemingly no reason. Happens with toggles, happens in SMS (text), happens in GMail. Happens everywhere.
Roms I've been on
SlimBean
Paranoid
LiquidSmooth
Padawan
CM10
CM9
Everything.
I odined back to stock yesterday, rerooted - even on rooted Gingerbread it happens. Now I am on liquidsmooth. I have had at least a dozen in a 7 hour period. Happens every 20-30 minutes.
Also now when I am trying to install certain roms, I am getting an assert failed in CWM. So I cannot even install certain roms. It seems as though my phone is just rejecting everything.
Has anyone experienced anything like this?
Thanks in advance!
If you say you searched for this problem and came up with nothing then may god help your soul because no one here can help you.
That is all.

I had the same problem for 6 months, turned out I needed to flash a different modem/radio/baseband. I'm using UCLF6 now without issue. Hope that helps you out, I felt pretty stupid for not trying it sooner :/
Is your recovery up to date? Old ones tend to not set permissions correctly with up to date gapps. Or maybe try a different recovery like the latest twrp. cm10 based ROMs are also prone to reboots because its using a modified ICS kernel..so expect it.

[Q] cm11 gps and signal issue

Hey guys, can't post in the development section yet, so sorry this is here.
But I'm on 2/17 cm11 official nightly, and every time that I have my gps connect in Google maps, it completely kills my signal. It did this on 2/15 and 2/16 for me also.
Anyone have any clue as to why??

Strange, I've been following the nightly builds since 13/02/2014.
The nightlies seem quite stable to me. Just small things pop up, like: I keep my apks on my phone so it's easy to install them again. One apk I have is uTorrent, however I label it correctly with the Greek symbol and all.. the symbol comes out like Chinese and I can't install the apk because there is a parsing error.. Stock android displayed the symbol and installed it with no issue.
Anyhow, wrt the GPS, I was using TomTom yesterday and found that it really struggled to locate me, it would have my position, then the next thing it jumped somewhere else and made me very confused. I set the location setting to "high accuracy". I'm really unsure if it's cm11 causing the problems for me, although i didn't experience it before on stock. I did not notice a lost cellular connection though. Will try it out again and take note.

As much as I love cm, I've taken a break for a bit and I'm on a blur based rom now.
Been working about 60 hour weeks and also have a baby at home, phone tinkering time has decreased a lot lately. But, beauty of slots means I'll be able to flash occasionally and still have reliable to fall back on!

Modem BlueScreen crashes

Attached is a picture of what the BSOD looks like. Also attached is a last_kmsg that caught "a" crash. The last_kmsg for this crash appears to not have any info for the crash.
Has anyone found a fix for this?

I'm pretty sure anyone who can help is going to ask about your ROM and any other setup details you think are relevant.

This has happened on 3 different ROMs. CM12, Blisspop, and Illusion. This has happened on the stock kernel and RIN Kernel 1.65.
Kernel crash, thats what that is it usally happens when the is a kernel based error I recommed staying away from any 4.4.4 roms for now I have had the same problem with thoughs for now the only rom that I don't get that on is this one from clark44:http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/orig-development/cyanogenmod-12-beta-ls990-t2958197 I recommed you find a rom you like and that works and DO NOT modify/change the kernel. This could also be of you over clocked way to high. So each just reboot and find a rom that dosen't do this and just stick with it without changing kernels.
I believe I will revert back to a Kitkat ROM, sadly, until it's figured out. I haven't played with any kernel settings or OC'd.
Blue Screen
Sadly, I have also been getting these demigod modem crashes with pretty much any 4.44 rom - carbon, liquidsmooth, vanir, my own cm11 build, etc.
Seems to happen every couple days at least - which I can't have with needing alarms, missed calls, etc.
It's a shame as these roms run really well, much better than stock. For the moment I am running barrin rom (stock based) and have no issues - I haven't had any issues with any stock based rom.
Hopefully some of the devs can at least let us know what they are experiencing, and what this means.

Have not experienced this at all but looked at the kmsg in the first post and it indeed seems like a kernel crash based around the soc. It's a modem crash but these phones have different system on chips, not all ls990s are created equal. The same stuff happened with rin when I first built it, green watchdog kernel crash for roughly 3-5% of users. The voltage spectrum was widened to include these other socs and voila, no more green screen for anyone.
I can't promise a fix, I'm overloaded currently - but if I find anything to help you guys, I won't keep it a secret.
News on BSOD
No News here regarding this huh? Too bad as there are a lot of good roms out there and none of them working without BSOD on what appears to be "only some" of the LS990's - sadly mine is one of those.
If any of the Dev's that are more knowledgeable then me want me to do any testing or try to pull some of the files from my phone let me know. Stock based roms work fine. CM11 and AOSP based roms all get the blue screen modem crash - SOC.

I have a T-Mobile sim with an at&t device d850 and I only get the blue screen when using LTE. If I turn off LTE then no problems. Hbu

Thanks for the info. I will give this a test one of these days and see if turning off LTE makes a difference. I don't think I could deal with that as a long term solution as I need fast mobile data, but it would be good to know that the issue is caused by LTE to narrow down potential fixes for the devs.
Fix
Anyone know if the new version of modem helps things?
Or any other fix?
cm12 crash
Just for information, I have also received this modem crash blue screen on the latest cm12 build from 3/1.
Hopefully we will have some idea why this is happening before too long. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Happy to test.

Issues on OPX

Hey Guys,
I have had my OPX for over a week now and I love the device. There are however a few issues that I am currently seeing that is making my life a little difficult.
I am experiencing random reboots of the device. It does not matter whether I am completely stock(factory default) or have setup the phone.
The issue seems to happen random. Anyone else with the same issues?
The only issues I've had with the phone so far is some stuttering when trying to watch videos on YouTube, although that may be just some problems with the app itself.
There is a new update that has solved these problems. Download and flash it

Already did. Still have the stuttering issues.
Yeah same issue here.
But after reading the release notes for the patch I can see that the random reboots seem to be caused by the unmounting of an SD, which is amazing as I don't have an SD card present
