Ooops! Md5 is just for checking the file, whether the downloaded zip is corrupted or fine.
Steps - once you download zip, just calculate the md5 value of the zip with a file explorer, and now open the md5 file [the one you downloaded from website] and match it with the calculated one, if both of them are matches... Then your downloaded file / zip is okay, then flash it via recovery.
If the md5 values ain't match, then your downloaded file is corrupted. Flashing the corrupted zip ends up with fails /errors / bootloops.

(Invite) Themed template

This is a method to install custom topbar themes without ADB.
I invite anyone to post their custom framework-res.apk and service.jar files in this thread for everyone to share.
I have included a Zip template that contains the framework-res.apk and service.jar, which you can replace, once people have posted them here. You can then use Clockwork recovery to install the Zip from SD card and apply the theme to your own de-odexed Rom (I don't think it will work with odexed file system).
Just follow the steps bellow to install.
Step 1. Download the Theme template here http://www.mediafire.com/?h6ey9w7pmwyhxev (thanks to Adlxdum for this file. Attached link at the bottom of the page also)
Step 2. Download custom framework-res.apk and service.jar files e.g. http://www.mediafire.com/?8et1sf1xl215bzz (thanks to Shamo42 for this file. Attached link at the bottom of the page also)
Step 3. Using Win Rar or similar, replace the framework-res.apk and service.jar files in the template found in system/framework with your downloaded custom files and save.
Step 4. Place your newly created Zip file anywhere on your SD card.
Step 5. Reboot to enter Clockwork recovery. Follow link on how to install if necessary
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875233
Step 6. Select install Zip from SD card, select your custom file and install. Once installed reboot, and thats it, you have a new theme!
Check out my one in the shots below.

To be able to flash the zip, you have to resign it once you have modified the files using testsign.jar (or autosigner...). Or maybe you can instruct the CWM recovery to skip signature verification (never tried that).

I tested this myself, and I didn't need to do that. I just replaced the files and installed with no problems. The screenshots show your original file "adlxmod-Defy-Froyo-DarkBarOnly.1-signed.zip" with Shamo42 framework and service files in place of yours, and that's what you get. Any idea why I didn't need to resign the zip?

How do I go back to stock rom from litening rom? UPDATE: bricked my phone?! Help!

Hi all, I need to send my s2 in for a repair and its currently on litening rom 5.0. I have my original firmware (I9100BUKE1_I9100BUKE1_I9100VODKE2.TAR). Do I just flash it the same was as you do with the litening rom via odin as a PDA? I heard the cache needs to be cleared? How is that done. Also I have a USB jig to reset the counter. Cheers.
See post 3
Find your firmware from this post and flash it via Odin, only PDA, nothing else,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
You can clear cache if you want, I don't think that's necessary. Also using a Jig to reset the ROM counter is on you, not related to firmware.
Regards.
Ahhh I just flashed the above I9100BUKE1_I9100BUKE1_I9100VODKE2.TAR via odin and it says FAIL whilst it has half way done and on my phone the progress bar is stuck half way. What shall I do? I hope I have not buggered it

Are you using the correct firmware?
Have you tried opening up that TAR file and seeing if there are individual files inside?
As that TAR file would be for clockworkmod recovery, so reboot into recovery and flash it from there.
Or download a stock rom from that thread, flash it, flash cf-root, then flash that file via CWM recovery.
tar file is for odin, and zip file is for recovery. I don't think clockwork recovery supports tar formats.
Double check the tar file with the MD5 checksum and see if you have a corrupted download of the stock rom.
If there is no MD5, please check the ROM file size to see if it is correct, it should be at least 500mb small.

oh yeh, derrr, that was stupid of me
Normally a full stock rom should be 3 parts, PDA(rom+kernel), modem, and CSC.
I havent seen it in one file before.
Actually, ROM can be one single TAR file. Inside the TAR can be a bunch of files.
See the attached screenshot.
As you can see, it contains:
boot.bin = bootloader
factoryfs.img = system (rom)
modem.bin = modem firmware
zImage = kernel
cache.img
hidden.img
param.lfs
Sbl.bin
First thing you should do is confirm that the md5 checksum adds up and your not trying to flash with broken files. As long as your phone is getting into download mode and is detected by Odin your not bricked.
You can flash with either separate kernel, modem firmware or a merged PDA tar the end result is the same.
Make sure you kill KIES using Task Manager as well.
If it still fails, try testing your system's RAM using MEMTEST86+, you might have a faulty computer.

[Q] Has my downloaded file been OK ?

and what is that SS_DL.dll file
Ignore DLL file as to the download who knows if its right as its a zipped up file . But the description is correct .
jje
I would get the MD5 hash of the file (unrelated to the file extension in this case) then Google it and if other links appear then the download didn't corrupt or anything
Other than that it looks about right

MD5 how do i get md5 sum on PC (on android to get md5 of file 1.13 GB is tooo slow process ) any app for pc ?
search in google md5 checker and install any app
If the ZIP file is open without CRC error, files contain on it are ok.
Question for JJEgan (or another) : what is the SS_DL.dll file on each firmware zip ?
Valid point but that's presuming that the host who zipped the file downloaded it correctly and often zipping programs will skip small errors so it's not a good method to rely on. An MD5 hash checker takes about 30 seconds to find and download with an almost instant check

It is probably fine if the internet didn't cutoff and resume or the servers didn't hiccup during the download, just flash it and if anything is wrong, redownload and reflash again.

i need the MD5 code of P760 V20B EUROPE OPEN

i just want to MD5 code to check whether my file is correct without flashing .
so if you have the P760 V20B EUROPE OPEN kdz file . and it runs normal after you flashed it on your device .
can you post your MD5 code for me ?
thank you very much !!!
As far as i know KDZ format is somekind of container file like zip/rar which get extracted before flashing. so you really don't need to check Md5 sum.
But i may be wrong.
Anyways here is the MD5 check sum of P760 V20B EUROPE OPEN.
Code:

MiXplorer is the best file manager. It's an all in one package. I used to think that es is best but after using mixplorer it is the best.
