Problem on Google Maps position - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Guys,
I have a really annoying problem.
When I'm at home Google continuous switch between my real position (Home) and another place in Italy (Pesaro) (I''ve never been to Pesaro).
I have at home My Nest thermostat and Philips HUE and at least 10 times during the evening the light will be switched off because it sense that I'm not at home (Wrongly).
I have tried with High accuracy, low Accuracy and "Only position".
With only position use the GPS and It works but inside buildings is not working.
With High Accuracy is working, but when the phone goes to sleep when in standby, the map will goes wrongly to Pesaro.
With low battery the problem is really presente and it stay very often to the wrong position.
In google History there is no sign of Pesaro (For google Location History i've never been there).
The problem is only present in my home and near the home.
With wifi off and 3g on the problem is more present.
How can I solve that? Any advice?
I tried GPS Fix but is not working.
I opened another thread under the section of my phone. Is that a problem?

Location trying to acquire a lock, but not succeeding

I've had this issue for a while now, but I'm wondering if it's just me or if this is something common.
Every once in a while, my Player (5.0 US) will show the GPS trying to acquire a signal icon, but it won't go to lock. I've been in places where I have good GPS signal normally, and it will stay that way for hours.
To add at my confusion, it sometimes comes up even if the GPS is turned off. In these cases, I've turned on a GPS reporting tool, and it can see that I've got a good connection with several satellites. I turn the GPS officially on, and it gets the lock (thanks to the program). Close the program and the GPS goes dormant again.
The only thing I can remotely think of is Google location services trying to pin point where my wifi is, but that doesn't explain why it can't get a lock.
Anyone else seen this or know what it is?
Hi there,
I have exactly the same problem as you. GPS is turned off but its symbol is flashing in the notification bar. I noticed this problem tomorrow morning wondering why my battery is low although I charged it yesterday afternoon.
Are you using gingerbread?
Sorry for the late reply. Yes, stock setup right now

[Q] GPS losing signal when screen is lit

My unrooted One X+ fairly recently started having problems finding GPS signal when the screen is lit. It's to the point where GPS is totally useless when the screen is on. When I turn the screen off, it maintains a perfect signal lock.
If Google Maps still had the option to dim the screen between turns, that would probably help me. But since that option no longer exists, I have to manually put the screen to sleep after plotting my course in Maps or Waze, or else it won't be able to guide me.
On the open highway this isn't a problem, but when driving around a big city, it's nice to see the map. But when I have the screen on and the map visible, I get no GPS signal.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.

[Q] Strange GPS behaviour on Huawei Ascend Y550

Hi all,
this is my very first post here on xda, so please forgive me if this is not the proper section for my thread. I searched for other thread about similar issues, but I didn't find anyone. I'm Italian, so I even hope to not being wrong in English writing.
I recently bought (on November 2014) an Huawei Ascend Y550-L01 (Android 4.4.4, EMUI 2.3, ROM B137), coming from a (Portuguese) Samsung Galaxy Y Pro GT-B5512. Soon I experienced a very strange GPS behaviour: GPS turns itself off. No problem in signal fixing, nor in quality or precision. It simply deactivates.
First I noticed this using the OruxMaps app (which works fine on many phones, even my old one), simply recording the track. Indeed, at the beginning the app was being killed (because of the integrated task-killer) when screen was off, but after setting it as a "protected" app, when I record a track, GPS works while screen is on and, if screen turns off, then most of the times (not always) GPS is deactivated from within Android settings.
I even received (from the purchasing time) some GPS errors while in the home screen... I don't remember exactly that error, but in a fast Internet search it was told being caused from the weather widget, precisely from the "actual position" setting. I deactivated it and added manually my town and those errors were gone.
Then I noted another strange behaviour: GPS turns off even in standby, during night. It is on "extreme precision" on evening and it's off at morning. Sometimes I notice these deactivation (in the notification menu or into the energy saving widget) while I'm using the phone (but always when screens is off), without any error or message popping out... It simply gets deactivated.
Any other experiencing this strange issue? What could be the cause? I sent a mail to official support, but they asked me to take the phone in a service point... I can't stay without phone, so I would like to avoid this if it's not strictly needed.
I think it's a ROM issue (said that even in the mail), but unfortunately still there is no alternative one (or at least I found none). I think also that (almost) every app that uses GPS suffers for the same behaviour I faced using OruxMaps.
PS: phone IS rooted by a couple of week, but I'm facing this issue from the first day.
What the hell is going on? Any help, idea or trying suggestion is appreciated...
Many thanks!
Up?
I also see strange problems on the Y550-L01 connected to GPS.
In my case the GPS does not disconnect completely, but during car navigation the signal gets lost from time to time (tested with different navigation apps).
This is only the case when the Y550 is NOT connected to the charger. If I connect it to the power supply, GPS works quite reliable and accurate!
For me this sounds like a software problem (maybe connected to a power saving mode?). I hope a firmware update will fix this soon.
Even to me this is a firmware issue. Before of your answer, I was really beginning to think it's a fault of my phone. Now that I'm not the only one, I went back to think of a bug.
If it is a power save problem, then try to use this app to stop the power save mode :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.wl
(ultra light : 35K, free/no adds)
"Wake Lock gives you control over the Android Power- and WifiManager.
For example, you can force the PowerManager to keep the screen on or have the CPU still running in standby mode or make sure the Wifi connection keeps running at full performance.
You can use it on any android phone or tablet.
Use it to keep the screen on in full brightness or dimmed mode during movies or slideshows.
To make sure the CPU is still running in the background doing your tasks when you press the standby button."
Thank you for the report.
It seems that the new huaweï G620S has the same GPS problem :

Any news of an Huaweï update ? Hope yes...

Hi! Better post your question in our small Huawei Ascend Y550 thread. Maybe there someone of us can help.
If you understand German:

These folks have the same proplem, but no solution.
Try it while a charger is attached.

GPS Accuracy

Does anyone else have issues with their unit (I have the T-Mobile version) mistakenly showing their location as someplace they were HOURS earlier? My maps shows the location where I currently am, but then will occasionally report my location incorrectly as where I was earlier that day, which affects my weather and traffic reporting. Any thoughts?
Do you have high accuracy enabled?
I do have high accuracy enabled. Which the phone doesn't seem to understand the definition of.
If it is showing properly when you open maps but not in other apps, then it isn't the GPS that's the issue. Those apps aren't updating properly.
Mine is off by about 20 ft or so ... no biggie.
One thought though ... do you have background data blocked for the map app?
Background data enabled. I'll use the phone to navigate from work to school. The map shows me at school. Weather and traffic based around campus. Then, maybe an hour later, I look at my phone and it gives me the weather for my office, not school. I open google maps, it looks like I'm back at work, but I'm not.
I have had this happen several times. I open a gps Waze and Google maps, for a little while at work then minmize. A few hours later I will use the gps again at a different location and the gps will flip back an forth from the previous location, this will occur 30 min away or in another state.
I have tried to just shutdown the app and restart but still occurs. My only way to clear this has been to reboot the phone. This happen on both Waze and Google maps.
I found turning location off and back on works for me, but this shouldn't happen

I've had this issue several times. With my G6 and V30. It happens when I'm using a GPS heavy app and then go inside where a good GPS signal cannot be found or where I'm on WiFi. Oddly. I feel like it happens more if that iZat crap is active. Happens a lot with PoGo.
Also get heavy GPS drifting when in High Accuracy Mode. GPS on LG devices seems to work best in Device Only Mode.

This is driving me mad. I had to switch phone due to this issue on Galaxy S7 and now it happens on V30.
Took a factory reset for mine to work again. Was fine for the entire time I've had the phone, then out of the blue, just stopped working.

Chiming in with "other phones have wonky GPS too": My Moto X Pure has had a couple instances where position appeared to be randomly jumping around, up to several hundred feet away with varying azimuth. Made for " fun" navigation in heavy traffic in unfamiliar cities.
But don't worry, autonomous vehicles will work without a problem. (Yeahhhhh....right....)
...
Autonomous vehicles are using a wide array of sensors to work, combine with deep learning, big data, etc. The GPS used in phones is not the same chip as the one used in a dedicated GPS device, even something as a sports watch as a much more precise GPS, optimised antenna, dedicated processor and optimised OS. I’ve been trying to use phones to track my runs for years and it always jumped around a bit. In a car, depending on the placement (direct view of the sky, for instance vs. blocked by the ceiling), on the weather, on the insulation of the car even, you can have issue with jumping signal. You can try to place the phone in a spot where the antenna has a view of the sky and it might be less of a problem.
I have noticed that the issue is with both Pokemon Go and Google maps. It is really frustrating, and sometimes nothing seems to help. On another site, they recommended installing GPs Status and Toolbox from Google play store. I will try that. If that does not help, the site said that the issue is with the GPS antenna.

Faulty gps problem

So everytime I open Maps or Waze to help me navigate. It always keeps searching for gps, and it will not navigate without gps. Also , my location in both apps are completely wrong. I'm very sure that I've turned on gps in settings. Is it a software problem?
I have had the GPS problem from day one and have never found a solution; I have tried every suggestion located. It is extremely frustrating when I am trying to get somewhere and it has me driving circles: telling me to turn around, stating to turn early (or late), constantly recalculating, etc.
The map shows I am close to where I actually am, but it is off just enough to cause an issue. When I am in my home it shows I am actually up in some farmer's corn field rather than my subdivision. When I drive it shows I am driving through fields rather than on the road.
Im really upset because Ive had returned the mobile 2 times to the store because the GPS problem. Every damn Xperia XA ultra starts working great with the GPS and after 6 months or so it becomes to stop working. Ive used the app GPS test and it shows that the phone wouldn't connect to any Satellite signals. Then I try GPS test in my GF smartphone (Samsung J5 prime) and it connects to 20 or more satellites.
Did you find a solution?
