How do I get S-OFF? - HTC EVO 3D

Hi, thanks for passing by. I'm pretty new here so please do tell me if I do anything bad/wrong. (I don't know why I use this much grammar as a 12 year old.. Meh, i'm probably just used to it that's why.)
So why am I here and why did I create an account? Simple, I needed quite some help with my Evo 3D. (that I somehow randomly found in my house lol) Okay so yeah, here I go.
What I need help with:
1. Knowing if it's a "GSM" or "CDMA". (I think it's a GSM, cause someone posted this and my Evo 3D's inside looks exactly the same as the GSM one shown.)
2. S-OFF-ing it. (As i'm seriously confused on what to exactly do would be the best.)
3. Rooting it. (Optional, as I already know KingRoot and other rooting apps.)
About phone:

If I didn't put some kind of other information about my device or stuff, please tell me and I shall give it.
FAQ:
Are you sure about this?
- Yes, i'm sure to do what it takes to get a successful root on my Evo 3D.
Do you know the consequences if you make a mistake?
- Of course, warranty void, might brick device etcetera..
Did you do any modifications?
- Yes, I did factory reset and unlocked bootloader using the HTC Dev thingys.
Did you backup?
- No, as I don't really mind losing my apps and stuff. Which then I can just install them again whenever I wish.
Why?
- Is it neccesary to tell you the reason why I wanna root it?
Any help would be appreciated. ~ X4R

Nevermind
Right, so I won't be needing any help with this now. As i've rooted it without having to get S-OFF.

[SOLVED][Q] Unlocked and S-ON

Hello everyone!
I come from these two threads: 'Sim card and boot loops' and 'Help - waiting for device and bootloop'...
This time I'm puzzled about the status of my flyer. After unlocking it at htcdev.com I noticed that it's *** unlocked *** and S-ON at the same time.
What does it mean? Or what's the different between the two? And what impact does it have on installing costum roms?
Don't thank me thank globatron these are his comments
Q: What does S-OFF give me that HTC unlock doesn't?
A: Full read/write access to all useful partitions.
Q: What else does S-OFF give me that HTC unlock doesn't?
A: The ability to flash custom roms without flashing boot images from booted android.
Q: What else does S-OFF give me that HTC unlock doesn't?
A: The ability to have custom software without having to waive your warranty.
Q: What else does S-OFF give me that HTC unlock doesn't?
A: The ability to install any regional ROMS without a goldcard.
Q: What else does S-OFF give me that HTC unlock doesn't?
A: Greedy much? What else do you want?
Q: Can I return to S-ON for warranty purposes?
A: Yes, a procedure will be in post 3 when I get to it, if you ask in the thread I will not answer this question.
Q: Why do I have to S-OFF in GB before going to HC?
A: Because that's where the exploit works, once we have access to hboot in any version we can patch hboots for later releases.
Well thank you for directing me to globatron words on the subject.

[Q] HTC Noob asking about different options

Hi everyone,
I've rooted and installed custom ROMs and kernels on Samsung phones and variety of Android tablets. This is my first HTC device so I'm a little unsure of my options. I've spent the past week going through many threads using the search but I'm somewhat lost. Can you describe each term and its benefits with one or two lines?
Unlock/lock bootloader? Is this equivalent to installing CWM?
Hboot?
S-on/off?
SuperCID?
fastboot?
And finally, what is 'root' in the context of everything above?
Sorry about the confusion. I've never run into these things while messing around with Samsung phones. ANY help is appreciated. Thanks.

It's ok, I was in your shoes a few months back. Here's an explanation of everything to the best of my understanding.
Bootloader - I would say this is kinda like the equivalent of a BIOS on a computer. You can access the bootloader by holding Volume Down + Power when your phone is off. With a locked bootloader, you can't really do much to your phone except for flashing stock rom images. You'll need an unlocked bootloader to root/flash roms. No, this is not the same thing as CWM recovery.
Hboot - The version and type of your bootloader. For example, there's ENG, SHIP, and JuopunutBear. Latest version is JBear's 1.93.2222 (I think).
S-on/off - This property is associated with your bootloader. Most phones come with s-on to "protect" end-users from messing up their phones. With s-off, you get much more freedom to customize your phone however you like, such as flashing your own splash screen, radio, etc.
SuperCID - after obtaining s-off, you can SuperCID your device to flash any carrier's rom you like. For example, an Amaze on the Telus/Wind network can take advantage of TMobile's ICS leak.
Fastboot - I don't have the best understanding of what this is yet, but it is an option in the bootloader, and there are adb commands that use fastboot. I think it gives you the ability to turn off and on your phone quickly? Someone can correct me on this if I'm wrong.
Root - gives you root access/permissions. For example, you'll need to root your phone if you want to use some apps that requires root (4ext, lucky patcher, root explorer)
@XDA Amaze community - If I'm wrong on anything, please correct me. Also, please add anything that I might have missed.
Thanks for your help!
I have one more question. I am currently on CWM, Android Revolution (latest with ICS leak), and S-on. If I want to undervolt or overclock my CPU, will I need a custom kernel, S-off, or what?
On other phones, I'd just need a custom kernal and rom that support overclock. I'm not sure how HTC phones work regarding this.

2.89 MMS fix for metropcs

I have a EVO 3D flashed to MetroPCS, with fully working internet and is rooted with S-on. I hate to ask probably a stupid question, but I have looked all over to find a MMS fix for the software version I have. I have tried each one I have found and they put my phone into a boot loop. I have had to run the RUU several time so far and it really sucks having to do that.
The specs on the phone are:
Android version: 4.0.3 ICS
HTC Sense: 3.6
Software version: 2.89.651.2 71ORD
Baseband: 1.09.00.0706
Has anyone found a way to fix the MMS with these specs? If so could someone point me in the right direction to get this fixed?
Thank you to everyone who posts, I greatly appreciate it!
Can you tell me how or where you learned to you upgrade your flashed Metro phone to ICS & HTC Sense 3.6?
updating to ICS

The upgrade to ICS was done right after I got my phone talk and text flashed. The phone was still not rooted, and the HBOOT WAS STILL 2.08
Personally I would recommend not upgrading. I find more fixes, ROM's, etc.. for the old version. The HBOOT will become 2.58 and is hard to find a lot of things that work with it. If you are wanting to update anyway, you will need to unroot, and relock your phone. After that you can go into your settings, system updates, firmware updates. Hope this helps!

[Q] New to rooting phones

I have been rooting and romming tablets for awhile now, but never have done a phone. I have a friend with a Sprint HTC EVO 3D with the ICS OTA. I have found this tutorial and wondering if this was the best way to root it. If there is a better way can you please direct me. All the specs on the guide is what is on his phone and also s=on. Also, I know roms are subjective so I probably shouldn't ask, but is there any one rom that stands out for being stable. The person I am doing this for does not have any experience and I don't want to be flashing roms for him and there are so many to choose from it is hard to decide what is the best route to go. I know that the one thing he does want to do is use his phone as a mobile wifi spot so any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestiions.

You might find this guide very useful. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438
As for ROM. Moderator preference forbids us to tell you on which is the best, however I can tell you which ones you could try out. All of them are stable, fast and have lots of enhancement tweaks. You can try meanrom, cool sense, homebrew, and common sense. That's not all the sense ROMs but I figured I would give you somewhere to start. Try them all out and see which one you like best.Cheers

Thanks for the reply. I knew better than to ask about roms because in the tablet forum we are always telling people the same thing about it is to subjective and not a good topic to discuss. I do appreciate the response though since it gives me an idea where to start. I guess I need to ask the person who's phone it is what it is they are looking for, problem with that is I doubt he knows what he wants since he has never run anything but stock os.
Thanks again for the help....

That's a very nice suggestion. However the link I provided already has links to unlimited.io's web page not to mention HTC dev unlock. Your not doing yourself any good repeating what I have suggested to other users without fully looking into everything that's on the posts first.
Now my migraine is full blown:crying:

[Q] Need help reverting to GB!

Hello fellow gurus.
First i'd like to apologize for opening another thread.
I read trough all related threads and i couldn find the right answer.
I have GSM Evo3d.
Its on Hboot 1.53.007,unlocked bootloader, S-ON
I installed custom recovery and installed CoolEXE 14b rom and its working great.
All except 3d camera stuttering and 3d video playback stuttering.
As far as im aware GB ROMs have better 3d support.
A few months ago i successfully reverted back to GB using:
- Free 3VO_V2 downgrade to 1.49.xxx
- S-OFF wire trick
For some dumb reason i went back to ICS and now i cant remmember right order of actions to revert back to GB.
What i the right order?
Should i first downgrade of attempt wire trick?
Do i need to be on official ROM to do that, should i relock bootloader first?
Im trully sorry for asking such stupid question but please hlep me get from my current state (Unlocked,Hboot 1.53.007,S-ON,custom ICS)
to my desired state (Unlocked,Hboot 1.49.xxx,S,OFF,Custom GB)
Thank you!
There is no way to downgrade hboot if you haven't s-offed.
Are you able to set phone to usb debugging mode? If so this may help...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585846
I managed to downgrade to 1.49.007 by first installing official rom then wire trick for s-off and then by using downgrade tool.
thanks for your help guys.
I hit thanks button to both of you!
Cheers
Oh,and just one more question:
Have you noticed that 3d video playback stutters with ICS?
Why is that?
I read some thread on xda that maybe HTC deliberatly screwed up evo 3d to make us purchase new line of phones.......
