Hi everyone,
Is there a way to have Sony's camera app properly name images based on date and time rather than a generic file name yet? I do not want to have to use DSC Auto Rename.
Also, is there a noticeable photo quality difference if I use an app like Google Camera or Snap Camera instead, which offers proper file naming (i.e. do we lose Sony image processing or other quality related items)?

Looking for a RAW capture with Android camera.
I am trying with Xperia X10 camera to capture RAW image, now it has got Android 2.3.3 and APIs are available.
Couldn't get it though.... Can anybody shed a light on it?
Also, is there any API or lib or .so which I can play around... I promise I will share all my knowledge here
Thanks in advance.
I second this request I would also like to shoot raw photos on my droid. I dont like JPG its an awful format.
I think it is related to camera hardware and not software. As I know, only one windows mobile phone from HTC can shoot and save as raw.
If you want to have a better quality, you can increase the image quality or just keep it as 100% original in media_profile.xml
Accidentally sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
Its likely a low level driver thing. Which like modems, the manufacturers don't release the source for.
+1 on this.
shooting raw will be a super feature for photography savvy users.
especially that almost all in-phone processings are extremely suck.
Raw capture is availible on micromax a90s android 4.2.2 in engineering mode
Has there been any update on this. I see heaps of articles of google announcing this but thought itd be out now.

As far as i know, only android lolipop has the ability to capture raw images. You have to upgrade to android 5.0 to capture raw image from your phone's camera. Its android Lcamera. It is an experimental app and will work fine if the hardware of our camera supports all the functions of camera.
Can we edit media_profiles.xml in system/etc to trick or phones into recording in higher quality etc?

Very good timing on this question.
In our camera compression thread, where we are looking at methods of modifying the stock camera picture quality being saved, there was a post linking a camera mod for the sensation where they modify media_profiles to achieve higher video camera recording quality.
Given the sensation device shares a lot of similarities with our device, it would seem this might be a quick mod to achieve higher video recording qualities. The sensation camera mod thread has their modified media_profiles.xml files, which might be a direct drop in for our device, or might need to be slightly modified. The steps I would take and suggest:
1) Record a video at the stock settings to compare to after making modifications
2) Make a backup of the stock media_profiles.xml file from our device before making any changes.
3) Compare the modified sensation file to our stock file to look for the differences.
4) Implement adjustments on our media_profiles.xml file.
5) Record another video to compare to the original video.
Hope that helps! Let us know if you're able to dig deeper!
I used that file and it is working great so far. Just write over the stock media_profiles.xml file and try it out. So far so good. I opened up his flasheable zip and took that file out of there. When I flashed the zip the camera app wasn't working correctly and was always in 3d even in 2d mode.
If I could upload the file I would but the xda app won't let me.

I use CameraZOOM in my phone as my primary camera app. Sadly, on the TS, it crashes frequently, so I can't use it there. The stock camera app doesn't crash, but it fails to save pics randomly (?)
What 3rd party cameras are you guys using? I dont need high-end features, just a quick snapshot that I can later sync using dropbox. Any recommendation would be appreciated.
Was trying a lot of different camera apps in order to try to compensate for the extremely dissatisfying image quality I get from my TS (are all units crap or might there be a problem with the sensor/wiring on my particular unit).
Anyways, settled for camera 360 for the time being. Allows for correct rotation in the viewfinder (you have to rotate the final image after shooting though) - and it gives me a chance to hide the crappy quality behind loads of effects...

Hi,
Has anyone tried the one plus camera apk on the p20 lite. I am getting noticeably better photos. Major difference being the size and sharpness of the photos and videos. The downsides would be not able to access gallery from the app and the inability to shoot portrait and slowmo. Let me know your thoughts. For the ones who would like to download it, the apk is available at apkmirror.
Thanks
Could you post some examples, maybe even the difference between photos with both camera apps? I am interested in this phone, but the camera reviews are not really positive.
And important to me: is there an option to change the picture resolution to a 16:9 aspect ratio? If yes, at what amount of megapixels is it?

Thanks for the informatio, I downloaded the app and tried with a picture of my cat and the hair looked sharper, but I had a problem and won't let me use HDR.
Anyone please upload some comparative sample pictures taken with the stock camera app and this other app.
And/or make it able to download from somewhere in the original size and quality so it is comparable in the best way.
No one?
I can pick the phone up this weekend, but I need to know/see if the pictures are better with that other app.
The ones with the stock app are not the best, so I would like to see a comparison.
The only problem with stock app is how the jpeg file is being processed. It needs to be corected as RAW files are much better in terms of quality.
I know.
But I think it is also possible/easier to have a good app that makes better pictures, even in jpg.
I use Camera FV-5 and it always gives me better quality.
That's why my question stands: please post some comparative pictures.
I was recently playing with the idea of modifying certain camera profiles to improve camera performance.
With a demo unit with retail mode removed it appears I can manage to at least view the root directory/files and subfolders like /etc by using Root Browser. I cannot alter files though like delete or change permissions. I can view and copy camera_profiles.XML but cannot alter it. I can edit a copy, but that's about it. I believe it may be possible , if properly rooted to edit at the camera profiles, for at least video to improve quality. The stock camera app only allows low bitrate video. Other apps will allow high bitrate with custom profiles even with 8K video like Freedcam. With this app you can get high bitrate 8K video with customizing profiles with the v60. It also may be possible to get better 64MP stills or maybe even raw by modifying some files
Anyone have any input?
