Kate vs Kenzo ROM compatibility? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hello, how good (or non existent) is ROM compatibility between Kate (LTE) and Kenzo version? Since both versions (3/32GB,Snapdragon 650) cost same here,I will be getting LTE (Kate) version and was wondering how many ROMs on this subforum will work on it.

I have a Kate and i can flash any Rom made for kenzo. Just flash the right Firmware...

Well,I ordered Kenzo anyway, since Czech LTE plans are too expensive for me so I dont expect using 800MHz band in next 2 years and the case I ordered about 2 weeks ago from Aliexpress is only 150mm tall so Kate would not fit.

Every rom for kenzo works with kate, you only have to flash the kate firmware.

Note 3 B28 700mhz modem custom rom problem?

Hello Everyone.
I just purchased a "Taiwan" Redmi Note 3 Pro (Hexa Snapdragon 3GB Ram 32GB Rom model).
The new Taiwan released version supports Band28, 700mhz which we here in Australia also use.
First thing I'll be doing, will be unlocking and installing CM for this device.
It only just occurred to me; will I need a different baseband\modem zip?
Will the official CM nightly work fine?
Will there be something I can do to help the community if we need some certain file or zip for this B28 frequency?
Happy to help in any way I can, and thanks for being such a great community

Redmi Note 3 Pro "special edition" or "international version"?

Hello to all, right now on GB there are an offer for a Redmi Note 3 pro "international edition".
Now i have a doubt... Is this the same as "special edition"? Because it has band 20 (800mhz) but is reported to have android 5.1 (special edition have marshmallow).
So what phone is this?
There are only two versions of the Redmi Note 3.
One is Kenzo and the other is Kate.
Kate is the Special/International/Taiwanese Edition.
When it has Band 20, it's Kate.

Thank you for answer, i have heard somewhere that kate version is slightly bigger than kenzo but in the description of this international version measures are the same, maybe is an error of GB.
most likely an error, yes. If you check official sources, Kate is 2mm longer. It has also been confirmed by a variety of uses.

I'm about to get a Redmi Note 3 Pro next year and I want to install a newer version of android 6.0 or 7.1.

Mokee marshmallow and CyanogenMod 13 are stable, I like slim rom. I have come full circle back to global dev mm.
Fortunately we got a separate thread between Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon version and the other Redmi Note 3 Mediatek version in XDA, so there will be easier for you to choose what ROM u wanna install on ur device and just make sure that u are in right thread.
We got a plenty custom ROM based on MM as well as Nougat and we all know that Nougat is still in alpha or beta stage so you may come across with particular bugs that came from the device cos we got some different versions like fingerprint sensor, camera, led etc, but in MM we have almost rock stable build, choose wisely.
And another thing that u wanna note that actually we have two version ot Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon, they are Kenzo (which ppl mainly use this device) and another one with codename Kate (special edition). What we look here, that Kenzo has many dev support whereas Kate doesn't and you may end up with bootloop if u flash Kenzo's ROM over Kate, but sometimes it will work sometimes ot doesn't. Also if we compare side by side between Kate and Kenzo, we look that Kate is bit taller than Kenzo, thanks to additional 4G bands.
That's all I think and I hope you are satisfied with ur decision like I did.
Last but not least, WELCOME. THANKS.

Kenzo ROMs / Kernels on Kate?

I'm looking forward to get a Redmi Note 3 Pro but the international "Kate" version would be better for me because of the LTE bands...
Is there any method to use "Kenzo" ROMs on a "Kate" version?
Yes. Just flash Kate firmware.
yes they have exactly the same hardware but kate support more bands.
after you flash (using "miflash.exe" if you have a locked bootloader) you can use all kenzo roms while still having kate bands

Which version has most support here on XDA?

So I'm buying this device but I'm note sure which version to get. As I understand these are the different versions:
Redmi note 3 pro special edition (also known as "Kate", supports more bands then Kenzo)
Redmi note 3 pro (also known as "Kenzo")
Then there is the SD and MTK editions and different ram sizes aswell.
I was thinking about buying Redmi note 3 pro special edition and I just wondered if the support for this device is different depending on which version you get?
Will all Snapdragon roms work on both Kate and Kenzo?

Kenzo/Kate has the most support.
Roms can be used interchangably on Kate and Kenzo. Only difference is in the modems afaik.

Alright, so the main difference will be that we have to flash different firmware/modem before flashing any roms? Does roms ever install modems aswell?

Yes.
Most ROMs do not contain firmware or modem.
