So I've got this P780 from a friend. He got it for his kid, but the seller tricked him it was in working condition. Turns out the phone is in a bootloop. I've managed to access recovery and found out it has TWRP installed, but that's it. There's absolutely nothing else on the phone. My guess is the seller soft bricked it and couldn't fix it so he got rid of it.
I'm not used to flashing Lenovo phones, I've always had Samsungs and Nexuses, so I was a bit confused at first, but I found a couple of threads here and tried to flash a stock rom using SP Flash Tools, but there was a problem. My laptop couldn't recognize the phone. I found drivers here and installed everything, but I still can't connect the phone on first try. I have to unplug it and then plug it again every time.
I followed these instructions - https://forum.xda-developers.com/le.../rom-lenovo-p780-pre-rooted-official-t2553725 using the sp tools and drivers from the thread, but I've got an error - readback fail (4009)
I'm really stuck right now, I've been browsing the forum for 4 hours and tried everything I found, but nothing seems to work...
I could really use some advice.

first of all, thank you. the drivers provided by you in the first post worked perfectly.
i tried flashing with sp tools v3 and got nowhere, then i swtiched the preloader with the one i found on google drive (it said preloader 2014 or something) and the flash started but after a few seconds i got BROM_ERROR : S_FT_DOWNLOAD_FAIL (4008)
after that i tried the same thing with flash tools v5 and got a different error - BROM ERROR : S_DL_PMT_ERR_NO_SPACE (5069)
edit: i forgot to mention that i did all that following the instructions and using the rom in that same post from the first thread
any ideas as to what went wrong ?

Sooo.... Brom error.
Ok repeat the flash procedure.
But.... When you plug the cable to flash, before insert the cable, press the small red button for 20 seconds and before release plug the cable and release the button. In that order. Finger crossed. ?

Ok. Try to do this:
1. Prepare all to flash
2. After that setup SP Flash Tool v.5 to download, not firmware upgrade.
3. Deselect all except preloader.
4. Press download and wait that the preloader to be loaded.
5. After all that is done try to flash again your firmware.
6. Tell me what is going on.

I want you to try to flash the firmware from this link:

Try to flash with both sp flash tools.
By the way. You did not tell me what phone it is 4 gb or 8 gb ?
honestly, i have no idea if it's 4 or 8gb and i don't even know if there's a way to check. i think it's the 4gb version, but there's no way to confirm. the owner doesn't know, everything on the original box is in chinese and sadly there's not a single digit that would indicate what version it is. or maybe there is, but i don't know what to look for is there a way to find out ? like something written on the back cover or on the battery ?

If the phone was buyed from India, for sure is 8Gb. If was buyed from Europa, the phone is 80% 4 Gb.
In this moment you have nothing to lose. Try both.
I'm almost a 100% sure it was bought in Europe, so it's the 4gb version.
I've been trying everything I could think of and nothing seems to work. I still get the PMT info error when I try to flash.
By the way, I forgot to mention earlier - when you told me to download the preloader and then try to flash - the only preloader that worked was the one I downloaded from here https://drive.google.com/drive/fold...l4MXlWT1ctQ3dSUGFVWW4tazdIVlROaVp2aS1DSXk5b2M
I only got the green circle with that one, but whatever firmware I tried to flash with it I got the pmt info error.

yep, multiple times sadly, nothing happened. either i'm doing something wrong or the phone is totally screwed. but it's weird, because it had twrp on it, so the chip was working. maybe if i haven't done the format beforehand and just tried again to flash like you told me it could of worked, but now all i get is the pmt info error and that's it.

Hi all,
Recently got a Lenovo P780 4gb, Chinese version.
It came with VIBE UI 1.0, installed by the vendor.
Now, I wanted to have a different ROM without the Chinese characters here and there, and reading through the forums, I decided to flash a stock ROW version, and then upgrade to another custom ROM.
So I downloaded the 4Gb P780_S123_ROW_131231 version from elsewhere on the forum.
Using the SP Flash tool, it started flashing, and on the bottom I saw some info saying DRAM 8Gb, which worried me because I thought it might have been the wrong version, but the flash completed, green circle shown.
Then tried to reboot...nothing. Phone wouldn't even turn on.
Plugged it again into PC through USB, and the red light comes on, and instead of the device being recognized as a MT Preloader device, it now connects just as a MediaTek USB Port.
The SP Flash tool still recognizes 'something', but when trying to download or upgrade firmware (with another ROM), then the red progress bar goes to 100% quickly, but then hangs, and I see the error message in the log (timestamps removed):
BROM_DLL[4312][2988]: ERROR: MT6589EMISettingFactory::IsComboDiscreteDram(): Bootloader sub-version (MTK_BLOADER_INFO_SUB_VER_00) is not supported! (FlashToolLib/source/common/generic/src/emi_setting.cpp:557)
BROM_DLL[4312][2988]: ERROR: DummyEMISetting::GetDramEMISetting(): Unsupported! (FlashToolLib/source/common/generic/src/emi_setting.cpp:610)

BROM_DLL[4312][2988]: com_sentry::Close(\\.\COM6, 0000284C): OK! (FlashToolLib/host/windows/com_sentry.cpp:650)
Now, the above error is supposedly caused by using an incorrect ROM. But what would be a correct one ? I assume chinese but what version or it doesn't matter ?
I also downloaded the P780_S135_130917_rooted_twrp_gapps but when opening the scatter file, I see an entry UBOOT that is not available in the ROM, and I cannot download it(above error) or upgrade (UBOOT missing).
Any tips or do I now have a fancy paperweight ?

Hi. This phones are a little tricky to reflash after is softbriked. Just in case try to reflash with Life 0.7 for 4GB Firmware.
Here is the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p780/development/life-rom-lenovo-p780-t2666626
Here is a litle HOW TO in case of softbriked Lenovo P780:
Step by step you wil do this:
>>>>> USE WINDOWS 7 FOR THIS TUTORIAL <<<<<<<<<<<
>>>>>>>>>>REMOVE THE USB CALBLE FROM PHONE! <<<<<<<<<<<<<
NOW:
- Unpack FlashTools, and Click on Flash_tool.exe
- Select a the MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt in ROM from target_bin folder
- Wait file to be added into Flash Tool
- choose Option->USB Model, click USB Model SKIP THIS STEP IFF SELECTED
–> Choose Option->DA DownLoad All->Speed->High Speed, click High Speed
- Turn off your phone - skip this step if is allready powered off
- "Press F9 (hit Download button)" OR " if upgrade ROM Firmware->Upgrade "
- and ONLY NOW connect your phone into the computer via USB data cable.
- The process will start and a red progress bar will appear after color purple, yellow.
- And green circles display
- Finish !
- You can now safely disconnect your phone and turn it on!
After this tell me iff something goes wrong !
OR
Tell me if your phone is from 04.2014 production.
If it is you must remove the checkbox of the preloader when you flash your custom ROM.
Also highly recommended before manipulation of the phone to do a full backup and backup of NVRAM.
Hi,
Well I flashed the initial ROM with everything checked, so don't know if that can be undone?
I tried flashing the life version you linked to, and tried some other stock roms (like P780_S125_130529,P780_S129_130710), but it's all the time the same.
I start the tool, then unplug phone, press reset button, then click download or upgrade firmware.
In the status bar of the tool, I see a speed in bps, EMMC, COM5 (as long as phone not plugged in, this is USB).
Other ROMS froze the timer in this status bar straight away, it remained 0:00 sec, but with the Life ROM, it keeps counting.
But in the end, it always ends with the same error.
I've attached the log, which includes multiple tries (with PRELOADER unchecked, then again with PRELOADER and PRELOAD unchecked, then with all checked, update and download).
Can't I do something like format it all, then do a fresh install ? Guess it's not that simple
I used the flashtool included, and SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1332.0.187, no difference.
Don't see production date, only see sticker with 02-5707-131911 Lenovo P780 and a number. CMIT ID : 2013CP5888 on the battery itself there is a number 140315
Thanks already for your help and tips.

Nope, Just the numbers from previous post, IMEI, SN, and some other number, but nothing like 04.2014.
The original ROM (when received), was VIBEROM_V1.0_1415_2_ST_P780_OLK_W_A291.
Only found this rom as CWM recovery flashable, not SP Flash.
But at this point, it seems hopeless

Wow thanks The closest version I found on needrom is VIBEROM_V1.0_1415_DEV_P780_OLK_W_A291 but I don't know what format it is, it's still downloading.
And then again, I got it with this VIBEROM already flashed on it, and going into the settings and even built in diagnostics menu (when I could still get there) I don't recall seeing any version numbers even closely related to the numbers I find on the stock roms.
From the official VIBEUI site, it's the wrong format. The software version said something with name lenovohome.net, but I gave up on that, Chinese is beyond my knowledge and Google translate doesn't quite get it
Further, read some people advise just try to dowload PRELOADER, and others talk about volume- and power while plugging in (META-mode?).
But I guess that is not related to the problem.
As I understand it, PRELOADER and bootloader versions do not work together ?
It's a real pity since I used one of the official stock roms found on this site, and it actually flashed without problems.
PS : I see the option to format, including bootloader. In other roms I find UBOOT image. Is there something in this area that I can try

Given the rom I use comes from a Russian forum, and I see Russian characters, it might be from the image, but maybe something relevant.
Would it help or make it worse to format everything including bootloader, then just flash ...well...something ?

Hi, in another thread, where you were also active, a user mentions P780_136_140306.
Do you know where I can get that ROM ? It would be the only ROM I didn't try yet
Thanks!

Problem SOLVED !
Hi,
The phone is back to life!
So, here is what I did: thanks to user stympy, who gave some valuable advise, and was actually on the right track.
The phones with a production date starting from 03.2014 have an updated PRELOADER. If you try to use flashing the PRELOADER of any other rom here on these phones, you'll end up like me.
The production date, I think, is printed on the battery (if you have a Chinese model at least).
YOU CANNOT FLASH A PRELOADER OF THE ROMS ON THE FORUM ON PHONES WITH A PRODUCTION DATE 03.2014 OR LATER (at this moment)
So, I found on a Russian forum (sorry XDA but for Lenovo there is a lot more to find on 4PDA than here), a backup of the correct, new preloader.
- I took the P780_S129_130710 ROM, and replaced the preloader.bin with the one in this rom.
- Next, deleted the checksum.ini file in the rom to avoid errors
- Open SPFT, selected the ROM, made sure PRELOADER entry was pointing to the correct preloader.bin
- USB disconnected, I clicked Download with DA DL All with checksum activated
- Plugged in USB
- Flashed without issue, disconnected, and voila, boot!!!
Well, that gave me a Chinese interface, but some screenshot tutorials enabled me to switch it to English.
I luckily took a backup with MobileUncleTools of my IMEI, since that was gone.
Phone seems to work normal, with 2 SIM cards, but a lot of Chinese bloatware.
While I was at it in SPFT, I tried to flash pre-rooted, or ROW versions, but that was unsuccessful so far. Always the good old 4032 error, although I updated the preloader, or some other failures.
However, the problem I'm trying to fight now, is the recovery mode. Can't backup (and not going to try flash ROM through recovery), since I can't mount /data, /emmc, and other crucial partitions. I'm using CWM. My goal is to flash the SLX ROM or any other rom with less bloatware, in English, and stable.
Update : Flashed :
- P780_S135_130917_rooted_twrp_gapps + modified preloader and works fine: had to manually link the UBOOT to the LK file (SPFT did not do it by itself)
- VIBEUI_V1.5_1419_5_DEV_P780_rooted_twrp_gapps + modified preloader and works fine : same problem with UBOOT
- Some other (Chinese) versions. ALWAYS put in the preloader file I attached, and everything went smooth and OK
Decided to not use CWM anymore, it's buggy. I use the built in TWRP recovery, and that works like a charm. No issues whatsoever.
Decided to keep VIBEUI_V1.5_1419_5_DEV_P780_rooted_twrp_gapps, but my preferred one until now was just the old stock version.
Simple and good
I've attached the preloader.bin I used (use at your own risk!), I guess it might come in handy for all of you with the same problem
Note that this particular preloader worked for me on a Chinese model 4Gb, production date 15/03/2014
And thanks again to Stympy for all the help!

The same problem, but...
Hi, I have the same problem - chinese P780 4GB, brand new, 04-2014.
After flashing wrong (as i know it now, but not 2 hours ago) ROM P780_S135_130917_rooted_twrp_gapps my brand new P780 don't want to turn on and seems to be bricked. :crying:
During flashing everything was ok - no errors, mistakes, or something something else wrong. Flashing finished with green circle. I've read carefully all the posts in this thread but I can not repeat your solution cause now Flash Tool can't connect to device. When USB cable is plugged into the phone red light turn on, but my computer didn't see any new devices - no "MTK USB port", or "Android device" or even "unknown device".
Any suggestions?

I flashed this ROM because i want to flash the ROM AOSP-4.4.2-v.1.8 after that.

Hi,
i have a huawei g610-u20 which atcs very odd! it reboots itself randomly and after reboot, it reloads a predefined state with all internal files and programs etc..
doesn't matter if i delete all of them!
then i decided to do a sort of operation listed below:
1) wipe data/factory reset from recovery: done, but after restart all things are then same as before!!
2) flashing a b125 stock rom via SP flash tools (mine is b115) :
- cant flash bcuz this error for flashing the secro-sign.img : BROM ERROR: S_SECURITY_SECRO_HASH_INCORRECT (6126), MSP ERROE CODE: 0x00
- cant format whole flash (except bootloader) bcuz of this error : BROM ERROR: S_SECURITY_SF_CODE_FORMAT_FORBIDDEN (6012), MSP ERROE CODE: 0x00
- also flashed everything except preloader and secro file, everything is done with a green circle, but after reboot.. nothing changed! system boots up with all those problems!
i really have no idea what else can i do..

My phone is Huawei G700-U10, somewhere in time, the eMMC has turned into Read Only Memory. Files and apps in phone can't be edit or delete or uninstalled. When phone reboot all changes will revert to previous state, that means any deleted files or uninstalled apps are there again.
Flashing phone with SP Flashtool will end with error message : BROM ERROR: S_SECURITY_SECRO_HASH_INCORRECT (6126), MSP ERROE CODE: 0x00

Thank´s and excuse me for my not very good english.
any solution yet?
NO one can solve what BROM error 6126 is. even huawei customer support couldn't fix the problem..
I am really frustrated finding infos on the internet.. but NO link that this problem is solved even youtube..
Hope you guys from Huawei would read this.. Really disappointing..
I have same problem, Same error, if i errase from recovery it's like ii didn't do anything when it starts again it's all the same
Hi, for this 2018 I have a phone with the same problem, will there be any more accurate answer for this moment? According to say that you should first flash the file REWORK_SECRO but I can not get it and within the downloaded ROM is NOT it? someone to help ???
I do not think it's physical memory problems since on another occasion I could flash with the same SECRO file but it was another Huawei phone model.

Hey Guys!
I used SuperAOSP on my P780 phone, 2 days ago, my phone drained at night 10% (without wifi and mobile data), so i restarted it, then it showed encryption failed reset phone (i never used encryption), so i clicked it, it didnt worked, so i tried to factory reset, it said some cache error, so it didnt worked too, then i tried to flash it with LiFe_v02_for_P780, its the simplest rom for the phone, and it always flashed sucesfully, but now it showed this error message: gyazo.com/27e71b262a134979b6d25a9efd25f972
s_dl_pmt_err_no_space(5069)
I could flash this rom always when my phone was half bricked etc, but at this time i cant flash any of these rom. I think the phone hard bricked himself.
Any suggession? I used the same pc, same drivers, i installed Mediatek drivers, lenovo drivers, used the same method, same USB cable, so i have no idea what is the problem with it.
Please help us! :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

Can you be more specific?
Hello guys! I have a problem with one phone that i am trying to fix for someone and I feel sooo, sooo completely lost in all of this as I know almost nothing about this. The cell phone model that is in question is Alcatel One Touch Pop C3-4033x.
It seems to be using a Mediatek chipset and I was reading some of your advices here & there and tried using the program called SP FlashTools but it always resulted in error, in the end. It seems that something is wrong with this phones emmc flash memory. So, I tried transfering some files as a zip files to the SD-card and tried to apply update from it, but it said always: Installation aborted. And then, I have tried looking for a way to flash stock firmware of that specific Alcatel model on SD-card, but I just don't have any clue how to do it, if it is possible, even. Maybe I should just give up trying?
Oh, I almost forgot to write that the phone doesn't have the access to Android OS and USB debugging isn't turned on, because computer doesn't seem to list it and I don't know if there any button combinations that Alcatel uses for this model to get into that fastboot or adb mode, even though have installed mediatek drivers. It can only get into Android System Recovery 3e. That seems to be everything, I think, at least.
Oh guys, I am so, so, so sorry if I am bothering you with this. I just didn't know what or where else to ask this. Thank you sooo much!
Hi download those files:
Firmware:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/bpm4ibsbmr4q6nc/OT-4033X-Without_Mobilis_logo__BY_GSMSERVE.rar/file
SP Flash tool:
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=11410963190603870440
Driver:
https://mega.nz/#!8VYkQCxD!fkhTrZwFFILDAglO1cR_8pIM4Cel52brZ7RB6QZoc6o
Once you downloaded all right driver open SP flash tool and add Scatter file
MT6572_Android_scatter.txt
Click on Download , connect your phone without battery and see if the process is going on if not try again with battery inside.
If you end up with error do the same thing but now first do Format then after is Finish do Download. Good luck ...

Try with another version of SP Flash tool little bit newest .
Hi!
I have a mediatek MT6765 device which has got its emmc corrupted probably because of my pc shutting down while I was trying to flash stock image. Now, I cannot flash images using MTKClient.
When I am using Mtkclient, I am getting this error while flashing (python mtk w boot boot.img --preloader <preloader_dumped_from_device>):
Code:

param = pack("<IIQQ", storage, parttype, addr, size)
struct.error: argument out of range
(Getting the same error while getting the gpt table with python mtk printgpt --preloader <preloader_dumped_from_device>)
Using SPFlash tool, I am getting stuck at Download DA 100% then recieving BROM ERROR: STATUS_EXT_RAM_EXCEPTION (0xC0050005)
Is there a way to fix this error and bring, my device back to life?

I did come across them but they are too expensive in India and I am not sure if I am gonna use them again. is it possible to rent for some time and then return back, like second handed, you know?

mediatek devices have two modes.
1) preloader mode is used for SP Flash tool. as long as preloader is detected, you can unbrick any time. it might require special DA.bin and auth_sv5.auth files in case you formatted emmc and lost permissions to flash (like STATUS_SEC_DL_FORBIDDEN or something).
it is also possible to flash without permission.
It's now easy to bypass MediaTek's SP Flash Tool authentication
A group of developers has created a Python utility to bypass the authentication routine of MediaTek SP Flash Tool. Check it out now!
www.xda-developers.com
2) in case preloader is corrupt, still there is bootrom mode. this requires to open back cover and find KCOL0 test point.
https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-11802.html
if you can't find test point maybe other methods work.

However, SP Flash Tool or mtkclient always come with highest risk to brick, it's your responsibility not to blindly trial or follow random people advice without knowing what you're actually doing. read golden rules
- do not flash preloader
- do not format whole eMMC
- do not use foreign scatter file
guess you did some or all wrong. it's always good idea to do a research what the error code actually means.

according to your error code just found this:
"Error 0xC0050005
Status of error: ERROR STATUS_EXT_RAM_EXCEPTION (0xC0050005)
Meaning: The firmware you're trying to flash is either not compatible with your device or you have selected the wrong flashing settings.
resolution:
Ensure that the file(s) you're trying to flash are actually for your exact phone model
Ensure you tick the boxes for only the files present in the ROM you're about to flash"

Wait wut, really?
Can you send me the link so that I can download the correct one? (I have been using this one: https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/miui/cattail/stable/V12.0.18.0.QCTINXM/)
I have the 64 gb one
the firmware is identical but guess there exist two different scatter inside?

One is with 4 GB ram and other 6GB
That might be the case, but I used the same firmware the last time (which I linked) my device got bricked and I did fix it by flashing the firmware with SP Flash tool
can you upload scatter file please
Yeah sure
it shows size of userdata 0xc0000000 (48G) so it looks like the right one for 64G storage model.
