Okay so I found a nice new phone come into my hands from a craiglist deal, popped in sim card, everything worked great. Sometime over night my device had been blocked from network use. I understand AT&T now can blacklist a phones IMEI phone and block any network access onto AT&T's gsm network. My sim would no longer work in my older phone, so I called and got that fixed, but I now have a stupid nice phone that im using for a paper weight. Obviously the person who sold it to me either knew it was reported lost or stolen, or reported it after selling it to me, its whatever it happens right. I dont want to go on craigslist and rip someone else off, thats not fair and would make me a ****ty person.
So I still have the phone, I know ill never be able to change IMEIs even with samsung tools12.7, and I know ill never see AT&Ts network work on the phone. Now, I understand that t-mobile is also on the gsm network, and I know that t-mobile has the highest block/blacklist capability of all cellphone carriers, that will even block an IMEI just for a late payment. But does AT&T share the same IMEI block list as T-mobile? Would I be able to just root my phone, and unlock it for Tmobile use, get a tmobile sim card and go from there? Or since theyre both gsm is my IMEI gonna blocked from all gsm networks.
I just need a way to put this phone to use, I spend good money on it and would like it to work. Even if that means switching cell phone companies and starting up a new "go phone" like plan. If anyone with any helpful tips or any useful information could just throw me some of their time with a reply I would be so grateful.

Report the buyer to ATT and they can unblock the phone if you can prove you bought it from someone.

It will operate on TMo, but except in a very few areas where TMo uses the same 3G bands as ATT, you will only get edge data speeds.
Edit: once it's unlocked it will operate on TMo.

OK so normal SMS, calling, general networking would still be the same? Just I would get edge data instead of the 4g or 3g?

Yup, T-Mobile and AT&T will be sharing their IMEI blacklists soon so it will only work on T-Mobile for a month before they start blocking it, too.
You can either use it as something other than a phone or sell it on eBay to someone who doesn't want t use it as a phone.
Or track the buyer and report it to ATT. They will remove it if you can provide proof.

If it was even stolen. I'm pretty sure they just sold it then reported it stolen so that they get cash and a free replacement from att.
I just killed my Nexus and I'm not eligible for a discount with Verizon until 8/22. I'm looking at the S4, full price in my case, I guess (sigh!) Does anyone know if the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with GSM unlocked? (I remember reading that the Verizon iPhone 5 does and can be used abroad by simply swapping a local SIM card.)
During my trial purchase on the Verizon website, it asked me if I wanted to keep the current SIM number (yes), and later if I wanted the phone implemented for worldwide GSM (do you think they mean through their own services, hence locked GSM, or open to any carrier abroad)?
Thanks for the input.

All you have to do is give them a call and let em know you will be traveling abroad, they will adjust your plan accordingly. I dunno if the S4 is global capable though, hardware wise.... Make sure you call them before using it abroad, failure to do so will most likely result in a massive roaming bill....
If you look on the hardware specs, it says its a Global Ready phone on Verizon's website. It has GSM also. I think it is possbile to put in a att SIM and go. Don't hold me to it though

Yeah, I believe it's FCC required because of auction rules for the 700mhz band Verizon LTE is using.
That said, you may still need root to enable new APNs.

I appreciate if you show screenshot of APN setting. if possible also network screenshot.
For now all I know is you can get WorldWide plan from verizon and you basically will be paying to verizon but you will use that other carrier as an atena... Cool, but it's VERY EXPENSIVE. Calls internet everything. Is there a way to somewhat hack sgs 4 verizon to use it internationally without needing that stupid expensive plan.
The SiMs are very cheap and the phone plans are very cheap in Europe, sometimes it's even more profitable to buy an unlocked phone just to travel.
So, does anyone know yet how to hack it ? There was a way like that on SGS 3.
I upgraded on Verizon and then traveled to Europe on the same day. All was working well with Verizon in the US. I then put in a sim card I bought when I arrived, and it worked for calling as soon as it started (no changes required). The add apn setting was greyed out, but it worked anyway. I put in the appropriate apn settings and it now does mobile data, voice, and sms. I dont know about MMS, yet.
I did all this without root access, but I went ahead and did the root procedure this morning.
I have to go to another country in 2 weeks, and I may get a different sim. If so, I will update after that.
I do have a persistant warning in the status bar telling me I am using a non-Verizon sim, but no other ill effects.

Hey, thanks for info. Are you using Verizons World Data plan ? If not, when you come back to US is it possible that you will get a pretty large bill for using outside of US ? What type of internet are you recieving, 3g, HSPA or maybe Edge ? What countries have you tried this in yet ?
Also where did you get the phone, pre order or in store?
Thank you, I'm asking so many questions because I really wanted to get an upgrade but I will be flying to Europe for this whole summer and I thought it wouldnt worth it right now.
No, I am not using Verizon's plan (as far as I know). I have a local prepaid sim and phone number with prepaid data on a gsm network (T-Mobile) and so I do not receive calls on my US Verizon number - they go straight to Google voice answering service. I get a H+ symbol for data when I am in an area with good reception, and 3g elsewhere. So far, I have only tried it around Berlin.
I bought the phone in the store.

I am asking because i need to know if it will work on a country where the 3g frequency is 2100mhz.
Hi,
Hope Im not duplicating anything here. I've got a massive problem. I use the Three UK network on PAYG and take the all in one 15 bundle, giving me a great deal - 300 mins, 3000 texts and totally unlimited 4G data with no worries that I'll ever spend more than 15 quid a month on my phone.
The massive problem is that now I've bought what I thought was the perfect device, The Honor X1 LTE with 32GB internal, I can't use the Three sim card for data. It tells me I have to buy a data sim to use the internet on the go. The sim thinks the phone is a tablet.
I'm now at a point where I have several crap options:
1) I have to change to a different network, assuming it's possible to use data on a phone sim card in the Honor mediapad x1 on other networks.
2) Use the phone with no mobile data access.
3) Sell the phone.
4) Work out how to make the sim card stop thinking it's a tablet.
Please somebody, help me out here. Does anyone have a UK sim which works on the X1 with calls, texts and mobile data for a decent monthly cost?
Thanks in advance,
HRH.
If the SIM tells you that it is a tablet, call your provider (Three) and explain them that they have to remove the block; or you will have to change provider.
Be firm but very polite.

I did exactly that and they are happy to let me go. We spent over an hour on the phone. They say there's nothing they can do. There's no block to lift as such. It is simply not possible to use a Three phone sim for data access in that phone. At least according to the Team Leader.
Has anybody got data access on this phone with a normal sim?
Wow! Hardliners. That means that the offer ain't that great if they are offering unlimited LTE but only if you use a phone which makes it impossible to consume serious data..............
Then phone can definitely do LTE data. Between my wife and I, we have used several different providers in Germany, Holland, Belgium, and France.

Thanks for the reply. So I presume the Sim cards you used were all normal phone sims which allowed you to make calls and send texts as well?
Correct. Just "voice" sims. Data traffic is charged (dearly). My employer was none too thrilled;but hey, I was working off my work e-mails...........
On one private one, I can book 1GB UMTS data for €10 for 30 days. And the card works no matter what; even international data roaming.
I've been round this loop, and was happy with 3 until this happened. I argued with them for a long time, but they just did not want to know.
If I have a phone SIM, no data is allowed as it is in a "tablet".
If I have a data SIM, no phone calls can be made.
In short, 3 simply cannot (or at least refuse to) provide a service to anyone with this device.
In the end I signed up with and took my number to Giff Gaff, and am happy. If you want an introduction, let me know, and we both get £5 back.

Before I commit to this I've got 2 questions:
1) Is the X1 good enough as a daily driver to warrant switching? Bearing in mind I'm using a superb phone at the moment, the Lumia 1520 whose only shortcomings are to do with lack of apps. Otherwise it's silky smooth and really stable.
2) Has anyone tried TPO? It's a new network that uses EE, the UK best coverage.

Are you absolutely sure about Three and is it a phone sim which gives you texts, data and phone calls? It seems weird that yours works and both my PAYG and my contract Three sim cards tell me I'm not allowed to use a phone sim in this phone. Was it the 3 shop you tested the sim in?

When was that exactly? Wondering if it was before they changed the policy. How old is the sim that works?
I can only emphasise that it is a question of policy whether a network is accessible, rather than a question of modem/radio capability.

Of course. When did the policy change - does anyone know? I've a feeling it was 2012 ish.
I would guess that the policy did not change, but that it is part of the tariff / offer.
Reji kamal used a pay as you go SIM of 3,which does not have the block.
I have read of a few people using dual sim adapters and want to try one out myself Can anyone recommend one for my nexus 6?
Switching sims is annoying and I want to be able to switch between my data and regular pay and go sim without changing sim cards all the time
Will it make a difference where I order from being in the UK? Just a thought.
"EDIT"
I jumped straight in and ordered this one because I couldn't wait Will let you know how it goes if and when it turns up!

This sounds interesting. Did a search, but didn't find much info except this guy's youtube video. Found a cheap one on eBay, but shipping time is like 2-4 weeks while Aliexpress can do 10-15 days for a bit extra.
If it works for you, be sure to post back. Might be useful for using my freedompop sim as a backup.
Edit: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Port...dby-for-iPhone6-6plus-4-4S-5/32412564754.html seems to be cheaper with the faster shipping possible as well. Missing out on sim adapters.
I've used some similar looking ones on older phones which required restarting the phone to work but they did work fine but that was a long time ago.
And darn it, I didn't see that other adapter
Oh well, Ordered the one in the first post for now Just have to wait and see although it's going to take forever to arrive either way, Just hope it's worth it !!!

The sound quality was bad for both or the 2nd sim? I'm planning to use the second sim for data only. Might run into issues since main SIM is CDMA carrier but cheap enough that its worth trying for me.
That's my plan too, The second sim will only be for data, I was hoping that with some luck it wouldn't affect calls from my main sim

Well... Just got mines; however, the adapter prevents me from sliding the sim slot back in fully. It seems to recognize my ringplus sim, but gives no data. Seems like it won't work with CDMA in primary and Freedompop in secondary. There's a youtube video of Cricket and TMobile working together though.

I'd like to do a hybrid of what you're trying to do and that youtube video...Ringplus and Cricket. I'm not sure if you can do sim switching between CDMA and GSM though.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it can. I think the adapter doesn't play well with CDMA at all as it just sat there unable to see the Ringplus UICC sim card. I'll try to get cricket and freedompop working when I get home today. If that works, at least I know it isn't a faulty adapter. Then I'll try to do gsm + cdma one more time.
Edit: Online searching shows dual sim adapters that are compatible with CDMA. The adapter itself looks the same, so maybe I just didn't get the connections right. :\
Edit 2: I got it working It takes like 3 minutes for it to switch between Cricket and Freedompop though... It would be faster to just swap cards if you have the tools lol. Still no go with Ringplus + freedompop
Mine's has notyet arrived Although I am sure it's just taking it's time sight seeing on the way to me from china
ETA is 15-29 days from my order so I have some time to wait yet

I got data on the main sim for sure. I'm not sure about freedompop sim, but it was showing the HSPA symbol without the ! symbol (no data mark), meaning it should have been working.

Sprint (Freedompop) has no HSPA network... So probably no it wasn't working unless you saw a 3G or LTE icon.

I'm using their global GSM sim. It uses Tmobile and ATT roaming in US.
I thought when you mentioned Freedom Pop, you meant FP on the Sprint network. So 2 GSM sims should work.
I'm looking for validation if CDMA and GSM will work.
Thanks.

I know Sprint might roam on those carriers, but Freedompop can? Seriously?

They released a new service. It uses GSM instead but no LTE like their Sprint service. http://www.prepaidphonenews.com/2016/01/freedompop-launches-free-us-gsm-service.html?m=1
I received my Le max 2 (x829) about 5 days ago hoping my carrier would "support" it. Turns out US Cellulars bring your own phone style plan is incredibly limited, and after about 3 hours on the phone I was told that based on the IMEI number I had given them, US Cellular's (USC) system wouldn't be able to support the phone.
Side note right there - I did notice that part of the "rules" given to me on this were already broken on my Current USC phone and that Both the x829 and current phone share some similarity in IMEI number rhythm (maybe nothing but wanted to note it) IE *405033* on one, and 454050** on the other.
Found some time to research today and have found several XDA members noting that they have their x829's working on T-mobile, even T-mobile through Straight Talk. However, when checking "phone comparability" with either one using the IMEI # that all companies want to know atm I'm given an error.
So My question is thus: How did you; a X829 owner get your phone to work on your desired carrier? It seems AT&T and T-mobile seem to be the go to on this which I'm fine with.
A side question would also be: could I use "xposed" to change the IMEI to something my current carrier would "recognize" / was this what every one else has done?
Isn't US Cellular CDMA? For the Le Max 2 you'll need a GSM network.
I just received my x829. Out of the box VoLTE and WIFI calling worked with T-Mobile (on all official EUI 16s roms). I currently use the MADSURFER and both wifi calling and VoLTE are working.
All I had to do was pick up a nano sim which I activated via phone. I bought the Fire HDX 8.9 SIM from amazon for $4.00.
*Edit MADSURFER ROM link is here https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/development/madsurfers-21s-eui-5-9-rom-t3497125
try this menu *#*#9439#*#*

US Cellular is listed as CDMA, but all the research I've done before going with the Le Max showed that other GSM only phones like the ONE plus 3t would work on the network based sole on the phones bands support by the phones hardware.
I have plenty of Nano sims thanks to the Straight Talk "phone kit", infact both the At&T and T-mobile ones are in the phone atm. I do appriciate you re-enforcing the notion that VoLTE and Wifi calling work (which would be to my benefit where I live) my fear is that calling and trying to activate the sim will lead the "rep" to ask for the IMEI and again tell me wont work.
@leptdre i'm very leery to try things with out a further explanation, kind of a side effect of the college days.

US Cellular uses the CDMA band 20 (3G) 800MHZ. see: https://www.frequencycheck.com/carriers/u-s-cellular-united-states
I was thinking that the menu was for enabling Band 20 for LTE, but I was wrong. In fact it says: China Telecom's CDMA , china telecom uses CDMA band 20 (3G) like US Cellular.
https://www.frequencycheck.com/carriers/china-telecom-china
I think if you can get US Cellular to activate the service, with this option checked : *#*#9439#*#*, you can get your phone up and running.
I activated mine on Tmobile. Bought a sim from them and activated it online, used the 1st imei number on box, there's 2 imei numbers I assume 1 for each sim slot. After punching it in it knew I was on a LeEco Le Max 2. Rebooted phone and wifi calling appears. Also wife and son have same phone on T-mobile but already had nano sims so they just moved sim to their X829 and that was all they needed to do.

T-Mobile and AT&T are GSM carriers, which means that the sim is the only identification module.
US Cellular, Verizon, Sprint are CDMA carrier, the identification must come from the phone it self. The sim is only use for 4G LTE because 4G uses a standard relying on GSM to identify the customer.

Thanks guys, sorry I work nights so I'm just getting all this... I'll take a look at the videos first.
Will SMS and MMS work over the wifi as well or just calling?

Did you mean you use MADSURFER custom rom and wifi calling is working on T-Mobile US? Can you point to the rom page? Thanks.

I had a Straight Talk kit from an earlier attempt to use a Zenfone 2... the rep with strait talk wouldn't "force" activate the sim for my area because "no coverage". Apparently my city/town where I will use it the most doesn't have enough coverage From At&T or T-mobile to warrant being able to transfer my number from USC. Going to try "re-upping" the AT&T sim A user on another thread has noted that @ stock on EUI rom wifi calling was still available with At&t.
Edit:
https://www.amazon.com/Fire-HDX-8-9-Activation-T-Mobile/dp/B00L8BYGJQ - decided to go with that as xlCashlx did and try t-mobile... so far out of all the reps I've delt with over the last couple of days, t-mobile's has been more forth coming with information than any of the others.

OP Good luck with T-Mobile
So did anyone tried to use it with Verizon? According to willitwork site should be a go, but someone needs to confirm. For example I am using the Zuk Z2 from China and the 4G on VZN is working like a champ.
T-mobile here. When my x829 arrived, I simply pulled out the sim in my Moto G4 and immediately had service on the le max 2. Didn't even contact T-mobile.

Did it came with the stock rom or some sort of custom one when you bought it, thanks?
It came with the EUI factory rom by letv. Now that I think about it, I never actually tested TMO on that factory ROM. My wife has the x820 and I have the x829, both on TMO and both on different roms.
However, I have flashed the small EUI rom with no problems, plus you can find other user's experiences with TMO on stock EUI and everything I've seen points to good compatibility.
I'd recommend looking thru some of the threads on slickdeals for this phone. There has been a lot of discussion on different experiences with US carriers, mainly from a budget/value perspective. I'm on the walmart TMO $30/mo 5GB LTE plan (pay as you go) and really like it.

To answer my own question and to advise everyone else that lives in the US and is planning to use the phone on Verizon network, you need to look elsewhere. Let me elaborate, I am getting LTE on the phone right after inserting the SIM card, but voice is not working no matter what, I even made a trip to my nearby VZN store to make sure that they dont have to go and white-list my IMEI or something. To put it in a more polite words, they declined to do anything, even after the fact that I have a corporate SIM that my company pays hundreds of thousands of $ per year to VZN for all the subscribers we have internally, on top of that I had my Zuk Z2 to prove them that, other phones that are not VZN "approved" can work with no problem with both LTE and voice. The last comment from the representative was that there are loopholes and some not approved phones can work, duh, I had the evidence with me, and again they refused to add the LeMax 2 IMEI to their "good" list.
So if you are planning to buy this phone, consider the fact that you will only be able to use it on ATT, T-Mobile and the rest of the GSM providers in the US.
