Hi, is there any solution to install TWRP recovery without having to format user data, and of course without having errors like "unable to mount data".....
Thanks, I have Note 3 SD running the last MIUI for developers (Marshmallow).
use the below recovery

Thanks, it works very well but I noticed an issue: when installing a ROM with this recovery, the ROM doesn't boot, displaying only the boot logo bit never starts
I think you should return to miui 7 then you can flash any rom .
I did same this
I hate to flash any from Miui MM.

I have the same issue. i tried to reflashing and factory reset but the problem is not solved.
did you got the solution ?
I think it's charging. Only that the battery indicator for charging is not shown. Your LED might be lighting up when you plug it. If that's it then you need to change the firmware.

You don't need to be in MIUI too.
Can do it in any ROM. Specifically for custom ROMs it is.
Heres how to flash:
Wipe systen,data, cache and dalvik.
Flash the firmware.
Flash ROM and anything else you like to flash then reboot.

Wait. Have you flashed a ROM before?? And wiping system, data, dalvik and cache won't wipe internal storage. So keep the firmware in internal storage and keep a ROM too.
Only then wipe this things and go ahead.
Do not wipe internal storage.

yes i have flashed my ROM before with fastboot via mi flash. And i losed all my data.
so wipe this things up won't erase my data ?
and one again. i can do flashing this firmware with xiomi recovery right (hold power button and vol up) ? and i just have to rename that firmware with update.zip ?
please guide me. thanks
No bungxsan don't do that. You are not supposed to flash it with miui recovery neither with mi flash tool.
You need to have twrp or any custom recovery.
And also you need to flash a ROM from Twrp after flashing this. If you don't know how that's done then please go checkout how to flash twrp and a cuatom ROM, only aftwr that flash this firmware.
Bdw if you are in stock ROM you might not have faced this problem.
I am saying again, if you don't know how to flash from a custom recovery then don't go ahead.

@bungxsan Do the following steps.
1.Download a custom ROM and gapps and copy them in your internal storage.
2.Go to twrp, wipe data, dalvik, cache and system.
3.Install the firmware.
4.Install rom and gapps.
5.Reboot

Do you have latest developer beta? If not, download one.
Restore backup, erase dalvik, system and cache. Flash developer beta zip , after that flash TWRP img(from TWRP) and finally lazy flasher. Reboot and hopefully, all your settings will be preserved and efs folder restored
thanks for your answer, i will try now, but i haven't understand : i have to flash twrp ? but i have twrp...??
i don't understand : " after that flash TWRP img(from TWRP)"
i have restore my backup, delete dalvik, cache and system, and flash the last developper zip : error7 ....
I do not mind if I do not get my data, I just want everything to work ... there is a way to reinstall everything as it should?
the error 7 was normally...it was for mtk....
so i have : restore my backup, delete dalvik, cache, system, install the devellopper rom zip, install lazy, and it works !!!!
thank you so much , so much, so much !!!!! you save me!

Or you can try the easy way, reflash that rom you are on. So restore backup and then
Wipe dalvik, cache and system and flash rom and gapps.
I don't know what you select to backup in twrp but all you need is data, system and boot img, that is the default option when you choose backup option.

If flashing Los 14.1 over Los 14.1 didn't work, then you have to do it the hard way, with miflash tool.
That also don't guarantee that the efs folder will be restored but most likely it will.
Good luck

If not, usually the solution is to go to service center and they can do it manually with thing called Box

No, that efs folder is unique for every phone. You have 2 IMEI numbers there, Mac address etc.
Try with global beta or stable MIUI rom. If not, then it pretty easy if there is a service center near by. It doesn't have to be official of course, every one who is in business with phones have that Box tool.

Nope. No special anything. Just wipe backup and restore and twrp does that fine.
I tried many ways to install orangefox and it kept saying my partition is encrypted. Twrp has 0 problems.

Flash the FDE zip and then everything works fine
In my case it was still not working even after flashing fde what worked was format data button in wipe section of the orange fox
and after that my data partition was formatted to f2fs and reformatting it to ext4 was necessary because whenever I've tried to boot into an os it would give me the encryption unsuccessful error even after flashing fde.
Hope this helped someone.
Trust me. I tried 10 ways to get it working it kept saying the darn thing is encrypted. Flashing twrp works just fine.
I literally do not want to format my data so I stuck with twrp and it's backing up and restoring fine.
