Hi,
After I installed Lineage 14.1, TWRP is asking for a decryption password, but I never set one. How do I fix this?
You need to do reset factory then it will not ask you for that password
Factory reset, as in flashing the stock rom?

Hello,
i have a X820 version 6gb 64gb grey and when i install TWRP (doesn't matter which verion, currently 3.1.0.0) i have to enter a password to decrypt the date.
what is the problem?
I tried to reboot, i tried to wipe everything, but everytime i boot into recovery i have to enter password. I do not know the password and so i cannot flash zips or custom roms.
Does anyone have a solution?
Thank you.
Did you try TWRP 3.0? I know a guy that solved with 3.0 version.

Hi
I saw that to avoid that situation you gotta wipe data, which I don't feel like doing since I want to do a backup of my phone.
Any recommendations?
thx
I had the same problem on my LG G2 Mini .. to fix it, I have been forced to repair the data/system ..

Hi,
I have a Le Max 2 and after Indian ROM I got that problem, the funny/strange thing is that if I use TWRP and reboot into recovery several times it eventually starts and seems encryption is off as it doesn't ask for the password and I can access every mount this is a stupid behaviour as it should always be encrypted...
Tried formatting both mount-points but still kept asking for the password.
Found this when I rebooted the phone into recovery and didn't see the password screen now when I need to do any installation I just use this method.
Regards,
Pedro.
I got TWRP 3.1.0 asking for password for Encrypt data. I was flashing Nexus rom and Black screen 1.7.img kernel (i might flash the wrong one img/zip)and reboot and it bootloop. So I reboot again into recovery (luckily it still there) but still asking for password. Eventually I got into TWRP and manage to restore backup from OTG, after I found out my internal storage was wipe out all data was gone. Now the phone is working normal I just lost all the stuff.
Just factory reset, worked for me.

Have you try reboot the phone into normal Android system? and later try reboot into TWRP, I read somewhere it might work.

Hi guys the solution for my me was doing an entire wipe of everything except recovery then flash rom, it seems that the stock rom of le max was causing that
What was your ROM in the beginning? Was it Indian ROM? Did it have the update manager? Which ROM did you flash after wiping everything except recovery?
I bought the phone from geekbuying with EUI version 5.8.019S (Stable), BUILD: FGXOSOP5801910121S release-keys. It looks like the latest vanilla Indian ROM, but it is most likely vendor-modified since the phone was received unsealed and there is no update manager. The main problem is the encryption - phone is encrypted right from the start without any password or PIN prompts. Factory reset allows to set up everything from the start, but the phone is still encrypted. TWRP asks for a decryption password. I have tried multiple vendor and default passwords with no luck. TWRP factory reset does not prevent the encryption.
This question keeps coming up in forums since people do not seem to search for similar questions. Well, I did. Therefore, I will try to assemble the list related to the encrypted ROM:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/help/benefit-form-leaving-x829-to-indian-t3609698
Proposed solutions:
CASE 1: No Update manger + encrypted ROM
Since it is a vendor ROM, you can try flashing a clear stock ROM from recovery that can be downloaded from the official LeEco forum http://forum.le.com/in/eui_detail.html?euiid=206 . It might not directly resolve encryption, but will make the update manager appear, which can be used to upgrade to ROM w/o encryption. If you want to stick to the Indian ROMs, but want to remove encryption - see below

CASE 2: Encrypted ROM
You most likely have an Indian ROM. You can try reinstalling the ROM (TWRP) and immediately wiping the data partition from TWRP. Some users report success with this.

One user has found that upon multiple resets with TWRP the encryption seems to be ignored

Another user suggests Chinese ROMs since they are likely not to encrypt the files. In other words, updating to a Chinese ROM might help.

Have any of the proposed solutions worked for you?
Hello, i was currently using viper os in mido.. I flashed aosp extended 8.0.0 for a try. Rom got flashed correctly but it is asking for password during boot as if i have encrypted the rom which i hasn't done. I though it might be prpblem with rom so i flashed nitrogen os 8.0.0 but is also doing the same. Both are saying to factory reset the phone if have forgotten password but actually i havent set any.
Isnt there any way to use oreo rom withoit formatting my phone. Thanks.
You can't. If the phone thinks it's encrypted, the only thing you can do is to factory reset.

Format data. Have a backup before attempting format.
Hi!
I installed Pixel Expierence ROM and few days TWRP is working without any problem and Encryption.
Now TWRP is Crypted and ask for me password...
Why?
When I restart phone ask me password again in some strange screen....
Try flashing forceEncryptionDisable zip. or try flashing the latest firmware once again.
I have reinstalled the pixel rom, flashing a Encryption Disable but no result ...
Same here.
After clean install and factory reset bug in TWRP is gone...
