As title says, honor 9 even on lowest is painstakingly loud. Just got my phone.
The "media" and "call" options on volume has a reasonable volume noise on lowest, but "ringtone" and "alarm" is as I said very loud.
Any ideas or suggestions?
My recommendations: buy the fine volume control app from the play store, buy head phones with volume control, or both.

Try to reboot your phone first then check again.

I recently bought the honor 9 and had the same problem so I got Volume Control app and have now solved the problem.
Hello,
I have same issue. Even on lowest setting ringtones and notifications are too loud. Any volume control apps does not work. Pocket mode already off. Any ideas?

I spend most my time in a library with in-ear headphones and the lowest volume is just too loud for me. Is there any way to change the volume rocker's (or slider's) increments?
I'm using Vegan 5.1.1
Sorry Hachi, I dont have an answer for you.
But I am bumping this post up because I have the same problem.
Also took 5 minutes of searching to find this post.
Has anyone found a solution to this yet?
Thanks
Tnt Lite. I had vegan before and lowest setting is still loud. Tnt Lite works. Just do a backup first and try TNT
I would also like to know if there is a solution for this. I am currently running VEGAN 5.1 and when I listen to music only the first half of the media volume does anything. From half to full I dont really notice a difference. I would like to be able to properly spread it out so when I turn it up the max volume on the screen is also the max volume of the device.
I am using TNT Lite 4.4 and noticed the volume is very low until the last setting, not a linear curve.
try using Quick Settings from the market. it allows you to tweak the volume a whole lot more than the stock settings menu.

This does help with system level volume items, but as far as media being played even at 1/10 the volume is too loud.
Fortunately using my blue-tooth headphones I have found I can use the in-line volume control to make it a reasonable level. I just don't know what I will do on an airplane.
Can you keep your BT awake while the screen is off?

Running vegan 5.1
I just tested with locking the screen and had no problems playing music with the stock player, tested for around 12 minutes. After that i set my sleep to 2 minutes, started a song and walked away with the screen still on. The screen went to sleep but the music kept playing, tested for two songs.
Good question and sorry I don't have an answer, but I'm glad you asked. I've seen huge volume differences in different apps. For example, Angy Birds is too loud for quiet settings even at the lowest volume level while some web sites are too low even at the highest settings.
Try the free poweramp app in the market. Go into the eq settings and adjust output. This solved a volume issue for me
I have the ringer volume setting at its lowest, but it's still too loud. Is there a way to change this from service menu?
Wow! Only 2 topics above there is a thread about the volume being too low even at its highest.
Anyway, I haven't heard of anything that can lower volume but if you haven't already j would suggest you put it on silent and awe vibration to 'always', or put some stick tape over the speaker .

There seems to only be 7 steps for volume on the S3. I've found that the lowest setting for notifications is still quite loud in a quiet setting. Is there anyway I can make it quieter without resorting to using quieter notification sounds?
I'm coming from a Droid 3 and the lowest setting was perfect, it was just loud enough for me to hear at my desk without it bothering others.
Now I have to keep my S3 on vibrate at work, and it's annoying for me because I never seem to hear/feel the vibration.

Do you mean Volume Control + by Coffeebreak Apps? (sorry can't post links yet) I tried that but it has the same limitations as the stock settings, just 7 predefined steps.
Or do you mean Volume+ (Volume Boost) by Meltus? I don't see how that app would help but I guess I'll try it.
Thanks.
Update: I installed Volume+ from androidaudiohacks dot com. I changed the levels to the lowest setting on everything and it made no difference to the notification volume :-\
I know I've seen one at least that does smaller steps, but I can't remember what it is called. I saw it when I search "volume widget"

I've tried a couple dozen different apps but they all seem to be tied directly to the same system settings that can't make it any quieter. If you happen to know of a specific one that might I would love to hear it (if you have the time that is, I'm not trying to inconvenience you)
There is a setting in build.prop. you can set it up to 20. Can't remember its name tho

Hmm really? It lowered the volume of your notification sounds? My hearing is average, it's just that it didn't actually lower the sound for me. Perhaps I did something wrong? I'll try again later tonight and see if that is the case.
I'm also looking for a quieter volume setting. I'm surprised how loud the ringtone and notifications are at the quietest setting.
I suppose rooting and getting a custom rom might be the way to achieve this but having already bricked one S3 I'm a bit wary about diving right back into the pool! But if someone happens to find a ROM that gives more volume control let me know!
Volume Rocker?
Are you turning the notification volume down with the volume rocker? I just realized that the notification volume does not match the ringer volume as you adjust it with the volume rocker. On my Evo 4G I could check a box that made them adjust up and down at the same time. On the GS3 I have to press the volume rocker then press the settings button that is visible in the ringer volume pop up. From there I can adjust the notification volume independantly.
It does however mute the notifications when the ringer is set to vibrate or mute.
Can someone build that into a ROM? Where the notification and ringer volume go up and down together?

No I use a widget (Widgetsoid) that lets me change the two independently. If I wanted to I could check the box at the top (see attached screenshot) and then the volume rocker would adjust both at once.
I never had any luck getting Volume+ to alter the volume of my notifications.

Are you mistaking the notification level for system level? System sounds kill my ears, and I actually have to adjust it through Settings > Sound > Volume. Looks like Widgetsoid might be an easier method, instead of going through settings every time. Also, I set a schedule in the Timeriffic app, so that it's ever too loud for me anymore.

Well, I thought I made some progress on this.
As you can see from the attachment, I did get there to be more steps. I had to make some adjustments to framework.jar to get it to change.
BUT, it doesn't do much good.
For the ringer volume steps 9-17 are silent. 8 is the loudest. 18 is the quietest..
For the notification volume, step 1 is still just as loud as before, and steps 8-15 are silent, so that was completely pointless. I'll edit the framework to have ringer and notifications be 30 to see if that does anything. It's really a crapshoot of what I'm editing, there are no descriptions just hex characters.
All right huys I really need your help ! How to turn off that Annoying beeping sound when changing volume ! I've scrolled over all settings. And I didn't find anything. Maybe I'm blind or there are some other ways to turn off. Especially when my wife is trying to fall asleep and i need to turn down the volume i hear Beep Beep Beep
The "Beep" is only when turning down ringtone volume, right?
No it's there up and down...at least it is on the Mate 10 non pro. It's barely audible in normal surroundings but I suppose at night in bed when all is quiet it seems annoyingly loud. Hmmm?

Yeah, that's what I mean ! I've asked lots of people but nobody kbows what to do. Maybe there's an app for system volume setting or something else... Don't know what else to try
You know if you open the sliders by pressing the volume key just once, you can then use the slider to adjust the volumes without any beeps at all.
Both the speakerphone and normally call volume seems super loud even in the lowest setting... any way around this?

Yep. Looking for a way around this as well. It's so annoying to not be able to set the call volume to your own liking. :<
Quick Volume settings allows you o set the call volume, for me it works flawless
