Which rom for RN3 2gb version - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I would like to aks which rom you prefer for the 2gb version of Redmi Note 3 Pro. I have tried Resurrection Remix but I am facing ram problems.
So I am looking for a rom that has good ram management. Can you please suggest me some roms so I can try them and decide which suits me the best.

Nos Oreo

Thanks I will try it. But isn't the nos oreo the unofficial rom?
I prefer the stable ones. So is there anyone that can suggest stable rom with good ram management?

Aosp extended. It's stable and has great performance.

custom LOS, AEX, NOS other have bad ram managment

I was having a good RAM management with NOS Nougat, but it got discontinued so I'm using AEX now. RAM management is good enough. If you find it lacking you can always add ZRAM of 500mb. I'm also using kenzo 2gb ram variant.

I have never heard of zram. Can I do this on stock kernel? Can you please give me some detailed information on zram because I don't want to brick my device.

How much free ram does it have normally. .without any running apps.....I too previously tried AEX lite....but ram management was not that great.....so I am using Slimrom currently

ZRAM. It will consume more battery.
ZRAM on stock kernal isn't efficient like custom one. Radon, ElementalX recommended since it supported LZ4 instead LZO in stock kernel.
I'm using 512MB with swappiness 60

Try Customised Lineage OS by Umang. You wont be disappointed.

If you have Ex kernel manager you can set ZRAM there. Set to 512mb with swapiness of 60.

I have tried aex, but I found this hissing sound in my headphones which I have never experienced before. I will try some other rom and see if this hissing sound in headphones is still present.

Cm13 or RR 5.7.4?

I want to know which rom is best for daily usage in terms of battery and general performance..more concern on the battery though...if use along radon kernel which one is better??
Cm13
vote for aicp mm, slim rom or nx rom
i know this out of your option, but this roms are best rom for me in mm while N still not stable enough
Resurrection Radon. Have tried many roms, allways end back at the above. All round beast of a rom
I think the battery isn't the major thing to concern as we know that RR is based on CM so in term of battery life both of them seem don't have a big difference, and regarding to ur query which one is the best for daily driver? I would say RR cos you know CM13 abit outdated than RR also RR has much customization inside, and it may give the ROM a step further than CM. Moreover it will never good to ask a ppl without really trying the ROM urself. Just try it and fell it. Hahha
Sent from my Redmi Note 3 Pro using Tapatalk
I recommend you stay at CM13.
Even RR 5.7.4 with lastest unofficial build and it's newer than CM13 but there is a bug - Cannot find any button to turn the back light off in RR configuration.
CM13 + Radon kernel. Best choice ever.
I use Nexus Experience ROM + Radon Kernel. Best combo ever! Read my review here: http://www.usacircular.net/best-rom-for-redmi-note-3-pro/

ROM recommendation please

Before someone comments that I should try a few by myself and choose myself, hear me out. I'm installing this on my mom's phone, and replacing MIUI because its getting really laggy. I use a different phone so here looking for recommendation. Should be stable with frequent updates. Thanks a lot guys in advance.
i dont think installing custom rom on "mom's phone" is a good idea -_-
BTW, miui is not laggy (seriously, how can u say that miui is laggy??)
if you're getting trouble with miui, factory reset the phone, or fastboot flash latest miui stable rom.
better not to experiment parent's phone with custom roms
here is some recommendation (as u asked for it)
1. Nitrogen OS ( Based on Nougat, for great battery backup )
2. Resurrection Remix ( Based on both Marshmallow & Nougat, for better customization)
3. Linage OS 14.1 ( Based on Nougat, better stability)
nitrogen OS for better battery (31.03 build) and Lineage for better stability, as simoom said. Both are actually really stable but lineage is bugfree and it has franco's support for its legendary kernel
Btw, i'm currently using nitrogen 31.03 build and i can't complain of almost anything. There's just some sort of hanging, rarely tho, at opening some apps, lasts about 2 seconds, but happens under unknown circumstances. I gotta say i haven't ever found a bug on Lineage, but the battery on Nitrogen is double the better than on Lineage

It is laggy IMO. I use a Nexus 4 and that's faster than note 3. Maybe because of numerous bloatware and mi services. Thanks for the recommendation, will try nitrogen os.

Well, as i said, i never had an issue with lineage, nor camera since the camera patch.
Latest versions of miui i heard have heavily improved in terms.of performance and battery.
Miui is better than every other rom in terms of stability however lineage is also good
And rn3 have very good support of community
if you are going to install on your mom's phone then only 1 option: LineageOS official Nightly.

Best gaming ROM

I just ordered a Le Max 2 a few days ago and it should arrive soon. Since EUI is obviously crap with all the nonremovable chinese stuff, which ROM would you recommend for gaming?
Most people obviously bought this phone for this performance at a cheap price, so I am wondering which ROM to go for.
Android 7 Nougat is not a must, considering Marshmallow even performs better in benchmarks (according to the ones I saw).
What I am looking for:
- stability
- performance in gaming
- up to date drivers
I will mainly be using the phone for android games and emulators, so if a certain ROM is conflicting with some emulators, then that is a no-go for me.
I see MIUI has also been ported to Le Max 2, been using it for years first on my Umi Zero, then Xiaomi Redmi 3 so I must say I am kinda bored of it already, but it is good, I might use it again.
Install latest version ResuerectionRemix 7.1.2. MIUI8 on Lecco le Max 2 works badly.

Are there currently any known issues with RR or is it fully working and compatible?
The Indian ROM works just fine and doesn't contain a lot of Chinese crap. Also it's 100% functional unlike RR/LOS.
Heyyo, best for gaming and stability would be LineageOS 14.1 and flash OpenGapps Pico and then flash my Vulkan Driver mod.
LOS
https://download.lineageos.org/x2
OpenGapps
http://opengapps.org
Vulkan driver mod
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/development/mod-adreno-5xx-series-s7-sd820-build-t3617644
LOS 14.1 is stable and everything works good.
OpenGapps Pico because anything larger is bloated and can slow down the device or even cause accelerated battery drain. Just install the Google apps you want instead of having all kinds of stuff with stock like Google fit and such
Vulkan driver mod because Vulkan makes gaming faster. There is some Nougat ROMs that include Vulkan drivers from Pixel devices but they are only API version 1.0.20 where as the drivers in my mod are 1.0.30. My Vulkan driver mod also tricks the play store into thinking you have a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge so it'll allow you to install more Vulkan enabled games like Galaxy On Fire 3 Manticore or Vainglory Vulkan beta. My thread has my test results with all the currently available Vulkan games for Android.
@ThE_MarD Who is maintainer of LOS now?
Heyyo @Enzo_84 the maintainers are tortel, andr68rus and cr3pt is what the wiki says

How come that LineageOS works better than RR if basically the same person is maintaining it?

I thought that cr3pt stop develop after it start to be official, but thx 4 replay.
Check LOS again and now I have best signal on it compering to other castom roms.

Heyyo, for that? RR has a lot more experimental changes. The thread asked for stability and performance and LOS I'd compare more to Ubuntu short term service builds and RR would be more like Arch Linux if that makes sense.

That's what the wiki says and I've seen cr3pt post in the LOS thread so he's definitely still around which is great. Same with Tortel too.
LOS 14.1 is darn good for a stable as possible ROM. I keep it as my primary and then use MultiROM to test other Nougat ROMs as changes are made so I always have LOS as a fallback if another ROM craps out on me heh.
I see, so LOS is the way to go then for now until RR bugs get resolved.
Pure Nexus with BS Kernel isnt that bad, too. Got even FP working finally
Who said MIUI Rom work is not good, I have a production based on EUI ROM, it works well, you are using the MIUI producer produced ROM BATE version, I am a stable version, only based on EUI produced ROM is the best use, the problem is the least
Phone arrives tomorrow. I'll do some benchmarking as soon as I get it, if they are decent, I'll just keep stock rom.
Does someone have benchmarks for each of the mentioned roms?
hello guys i tried playing god of war ghost of sparta with ppsspp emulator and PUBG but they lag very much i was so dissappointed and i found that the EUI official rom is limiting the cpu and gpu performance and i rooted the phone and installed kernal auditor and boosted the cpu over 1.5ghz myself and played it is much more fasted so please suggest me a best rom that does not limit cpu and gpu for my LE MAX 2 device its best performance device but the performance is always limiting

What is the best rom so far

I decided to flash a rom. But i can't decide which one best for daily driver.
I want to know that.. Please tell me which is the best.. Guys which rom are you using?
Bump
Hard to say because they're all pretty much alike. Pick your poison (Stock/Lineage/AOSP) and read up on the flavours the devs add to each one. Whatever floats your boat. All the active ones - that I have tried - are stable

If you want to try out nougat roms first then, resurrection remix is a must try. Now resurrection remix comes with a ton of customisations but if you are more of a stock guy then lineage os or slim rom is for you. However if you wanna directly try out oreo (which I won't recommend) then liquid remix, aosp extended 5.1 and aoscp are roms to definitely try out.

I used cardinal for a week and i must say it's pretty good for daily driver. Smooth and stable. I tried a few oreo roms (omnirom, aex and cardinal) and i prefer cardinal in overall performance + battery. I used velvet kernel in all those roms. I decided to switch back to nougat rr since i like all those customization options and battery life is much better in nougat for now.

Pretty much all the roms are stable enough to use as a daily driver. But oreo isn't mature as of now. That's why i said not to try oreo. Plus since you haven't tried any custom rom for this devce, you "should" atleast have a look what the custom side of nougat has to offer. Don't get me wrong, oreo is good, and it's the best android right now, but there are some bugs regarding wifi and Bluetooth connectivity, and cellular network. However if you are really excited to try out oreo, especially pixel experience, then the only catch in the rom is that, many times the device is being referred as pixel and not Redmi note 4, like the setup says "set up your pixel device" , which for me i am not a huge fan of. Instead the i am gonna share my procedure for the perfect stock experience. So I've used the aoscp rom for about 2 months and it has been really good. It has a near stock experience but includes some tiny features like accent color changer, and button remapping. So what i do is, i install the rom, and along with it i install the micro package (or more recently i had started using the aroma package to install only what i need), and after gapps i install product sans font (attached thw zip in case you wanna try), and the ambient display gesture. Now at this point sometimes i also install the stormguard kernel zip file (stormguard is an overclocked kernel which actually gives nice increased performance, especially in games). Now this is my perfect setup for my device. Maybe you'll have something else? But definitely try this out.

I am currently using Luis Build.
It's the only unofficial rr build that is updated till now afaik, since there is no more official update.
I've tried almost all ROMs that are available for RN4..But when comes for daily usage I'd prefer LineageOS or resurrection remix.
And out of these two if stability and performance where of utmost important to me I'd use LineageOS(obvious isn't it??).
And if I wanted to customize my ROM as per my wish then RR it is. Doesn't mean RR is not stable it's just that Lineage is better in terms of stability.
Happy flashing!!

Nahh that's old now dude, since aoscp became official i feel it has become slower in performance. So right now i am actually using the Treble supported lineage os 15.1, and it is pretty good. However if you want customisations then there are only two roms to choose, and they are Resurrection Remix and cdDroid. These roms are filled with customisation, and both of them are based on lineage os. I've tried both and used resurrection remix for a week or so, so the main difference between both of them is, regarding the ui. The features are more or less the same, but resurrection remix is based on an older version of los rn (resurrection remix 6.0.0 taken in consideration) whereas crDroid is based on newer aources and has better ui control.
And regarding Lineage os, it is pretty good. I always decrease the animation speed to 0.5x to be smooth, and after that it's been real smooth and good. It now has some more customisation and features added. It also has a feature to change the accent color and ui mode. Pretty good. I've attached screenshots for you to see.
(The los now has new icons too)
In conclusion if you want features, go with Resurrection remix or crDroid. (I'll prefer Resurrection Remix), but if you want some aosp rom with decent amount of customisation then go for Liquid Remix or Aosip.
(In below screenshot, keep in mind that i installed the product sans font and ambient display mod
@Arnova8G2 Is there any chance that you are fixing the perennial slow motion crash bug on RN4.. I hope it is done cos it is the only thing that is not working as of now.

Depends upon your usage. 100% of the custom roms available have the same ui, and most of them have the same features, so it depends upon you. And regarding battery life, you'll always get a minimum 6 hrs of sot with medium usage. But the main difference is regarding your choice. If you want super customisation go with resurrection remix, crDroid, or Firehound, or aospextended. Among these 4, Resurrection Remix is the king of customisation. If you want plain stock aosp with some light features, go with aoscp or lineage os.
But if you want PURE stock aosp with no extra features. Just bland vanilla aosp, then elixir os.
Other than roms, try out kernels and find out which suits you.
