Security update - LG K7 Questions & Answers

I downloaded the newest system update for the K7 and it installed fine went booted up to the LG and metro pcs screen after that it powered off and will not power up nor is recognized by my computer. Have tried holding power button for 20 seconds, power and volume down button. I have used LG up along with the lg mobile support tool to see if it would be recognized still nothing.

[Q] Bricked with LG 3G Mobile Download Program

Well, it happened. When uploading Gingerbread by LG 3G Mobile Download Program, the program hangs, and stopped responding. I waited an hour if something happens, but unfortunately nothing. I had to disconnect the phone. Now it cannot be turn on, I get the LG logo and then white screen. What's the worst computer does not detect the phone. There is no even a USB plug sound. Also, the above program, or Sofware Updater [KDZ] did not detect the phone. What to do?

You need to Hardware Reset after flashing jellybean KDZ. This will remove all data. Can't remember the exact combo but it should be. Battery out. 2 sec. Battery in hold Volume Up + Home + Power. After Lg screen shows up wait 1 more sec. Release Power. Keep the other 2 until you are in recovery (if you have a custom one) or wait the green android guy. Release buttons. If you get android guy he will reset and restart for you. If you flashed maxx modded KDZ do a factory reset. Gl.

My bad hardware reset is with Volume Down.

Anyway to force power down v30 stuck on LG logo? (us998)

2 hours later Ive given up, google dosent have the answer, neither does clueless LG support. On my previous phone, note 4, a simple battery pull would have done the trick.
But anyway, it's stuck on the LG logo screen, have power key/ volume down rebooted multiple times, no luck. Someone at LG support said hold the power button down for about 30 seconds and it should power off? Is that right? It didnt work out for me, held it down for over a minute, did that several times. At this point I just need to be able to power the device off so I can boot into stock recovery, but am unable to.
Btw I apparently messed it up by disabling "bloat" through adb fastboot command prompt, I was only maybe 5 apps/ programs in when the phone froze, that's what ultimately brought me here.
Don't have a V30 yet, but the ol' Quark was kind of fidgety, maybe its method will work.
Hold Power+Vol Down until it reboots. Let go of Power, but keep Vol Down held. Hopefully, the boot menu or recovery will come up after some seconds. Should be able to completely power off from there or factory reset.
T-Mobile also describes a specific thing you can try involving some button timing, but I've read that it's not supported on all variants.

Thanks for your reply, I tried that 3 times, no luck though. LG has got to have a way of force powering these things off you would think. In the meantime I'm concerned about screen burn in with that bright white LG logo glowing on screen for hours.

Ok here's the proper timing on that
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiod8cvbS9s
That worked, but unfotunately after the phone sat with that lg logo on screen for idk maybe 4 hours.
Gross. God forbid they just put in a proper boot menu like most other manufacturers.
On the bright side, if it's suffered any burn-in it should be visible on that bright white factory reset screen.

Fortunately, no, everything is back up and running and looks good. I was certainly worried about i though. But im glad now I know how to do it now, especially since I'll be rooting this device as soon as it hits LG's bootloader unlock list
@breacherman Did you get it to power off from stock recovery? I'm in the same situation. I can get in to stock recovery and even download mode. But I can't get it to boot or power off.
Update: fixed it.
welp looks like I have this same issue on my US998.
I think I may have borked it. The device is stuck on the LG V30 boot screen and I can no longer force reset into TWRP. I also cant get the device to completely power down to get into fastboot mode to try and use the USB cable trick
I cant use uppercut, as the device wont connect to my pc since its stuck on the boot screen. Talk about frustrating. This all happened when I mistakenly installed the OREO TWRP on a nougat based US998. For your own good DONT repeat my mistake.

That's not the cause of your problems. I have the Oreo-compatible TWRP installed on Nougat US998. It's fine. It's also compatible with Nougat.
It's just a newer, better version of TWRP -- 3.2.1. There's no reason not to install it. You just install it within TWRP, using install "Image" to "recovery".

OK, welp do you happen to have any idea on how to manually power down the device, versus just waiting for the battery to drain to zero.

Just curious how did you install the newer TWRP? Within TWRP itself or flashing via ADB?

yeah pretty dumb move on my part. I installed a oreo rom, on my US998. Which up till today was all fine and dandy to run OREO roms on the nougat firmware. I decided to try the latest boombox rom, based off 20D. It booted my device into a dual sim version, killing my data connection, while showing that I had two sim slots for some reason. I thought, hmm maybe I need to upgrade TWRP. So I flashed the latest TWRP image IN TWRP (probably the killer switch) and everything seemed ok.
I rebooted TWRP and then wiped, and reinstalled the rom, and it booted up fine, yet still showed my US998 as a dual sim device.
So I figured, hey I am still on the nougat firmware, Ill just go back to stock. So I kdz back to stock (latest version), and then try to install the original TWRP through fastboot, bootloop city.
I am draining the battery, to try and power the device down, and then I will retry the USB cable to fastboot and try to kdz back to stock again.
I should have known better after all the LG devices I have owned, but sometimes you take a loss, messing around with LG lol.
Wish me luck on the battery drain, forced fastboot method.

Did you ever get this fixed? I am stuck on the LG V30 screen as well. I can get into factory reset but nothing else. The last command I used was via adb to boot into twrp when I left twrp and tried to reboot it only showed the bootloader warning screen and now I am stuck on the splash screen.

Press and hold the Power button (or fingerprint scanner) and Volume Down button simultaneously for 8 seconds. Your phone will then vibrate, shut down, and reboot.
This method usually fixes minor software issues transpiring in mobile devices without affecting any data stored on your phone’s internal memory. Basically, it works the same as a soft reset only that you forced the device to reboot through the hardware key combos.
Second method: Connect your LG V30 to a charger and let it charge.
When your phone does nothing and shows nothing but a black display, chances are you would immediately think that it’s damaged. But the truth is, your phone might just have ran out of power completely and therefore no longer able to power up. With that said, try to connect your phone to its charger then allow it to charge for at least 20 to 30 minutes. It can take longer for the charging indicator to show up especially if the battery was totally drained before charging. Also make sure that your phone is able to charge properly. You can try using a different charger for your LG V30 or use other power sources available to ensure that the problem you’re dealing with is not associated with a faulty charger or power outlet.
Third method: Try performing a master reset using the hardware keys.
If your phone is able to charge, try to perform a master reset with the hardware keys. A master reset will restore the original factory settings and wipes out your personal data stored on the internal memory of your phone. All your downloads, ringtones, images, apps, contacts, and Visual Voicemail will be erased in the process. Considering that the problem is triggered by a software bug affecting your LG V30’s system functions, a full system reset will be able to eliminate the bug as well. Here’s how it’s done:
Back up all your data on the internal memory (if possible).
With your device powered off, press and hold the Power button and Volume Down buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while keep holding the Volume Down button.
Let go of the buttons when the onscreen menu appears.
When you see the option to Delete all user data (including LG and carrier apps) and reset all settings message prompt, press the Volume Down button to highlight Yes.
Then press the Power button to reset the device.
Wait until the reset is complete then reboot your device. If it’s able to boot up successfully, proceed with the initial setup.
Fourth method: Plug your LG V30 in to a computer
LG Bridge is the new PC suite software for LG Android smartphones like LG V30. It works the same way as iTunes does on an iPhone and iPad, when accessing and managing iOS device system.
LG Bridge is mainly used to backup and restore LG phone data, sync data, update software and other related tasks. In order to use this app, you’ll need to download the LG Bridge installer from LG Support site then install it on your computer (Windows or Mac).
After the LG Bridge software is successfully installed on your computer, try to detect or access the LG V30 phone system through LG Bridge with these steps:
Connect your LG V30 to your computer using the USB cable that comes with your device. Alternatively, you may use the cable attached to your LG charger. Be sure to unlock your LG V30 when you connect it to your computer.
Once connected, select a USB connection type like Media sync (MTP) or File Transfer, if you’re prompted on your device.
Then, open LG Bridge on your computer.
Select LG Backup to create a backup of your data stored on the phone.
If you wish to restore, follow the onscreen instructions on the LG Bridge menu to restore your device. Basically if your able to access your phone on the computer through LG Bridge software, it means that your phone is not dead. More likely, it’s just not charging so you’ll have to deal with charging problem instead.

Im having a similar issue. Except everything went fine for me. Successfully converted to US998, upgraded again to oreo, flashed TWRP, flashed the two LG specific files, installed Magisk. Everything went great. Unitl I tried to install Lineage OS 15. Then it went to the Lineage splash screen and stays there. Now I can no longer get into any recovery of any sort even when trying to do the master reset. Just continues to reboot and lands on the Lineage splash screen. I guess Im going to have to let the battery run all the way out and hope that I can get back into fastboot that way.

Yes. Sure have. I held the power button down for 5 minutes and nothing. It never powers off. The power button plus down works to reboot the device. And I can also get it to go to the factory reset screen, but when I do that it goes through the motions and then just tries to boot again. This is why Im assuming it has removed the recovery some how?

To enter download mode:
Turned phone off by removing the battery
Reinserted the battery without the USB cable plugged in
Pressed volume up and kept it pressed
Reinserted the USB cable while still keeping volume up button pressed
(As I mentioned, this didn't work the first few times around and I don't know why. Apparently, persistence paid off.)
To reflash the stock ROM:
Google-searched for this phrase: lg firmware h850
Note: I'm not yet allowed to post links. Your results may vary. There was a result at a domain which includes the words "lg" and "firmwares". That one I chose. Hope that's vague enough.
Also note that there are other sources of this image, I'm sure I've seen something here on the forums.
Downloaded the image H85020i_00_OPEN_EU_OP_0628.kdz (I had trouble with an image version that was less than 20i (10c I believe). Again, your mileage may vary.)
Booted into Windows because (sigh) LGUP, which is used to flash the above image onto the device, is only available for Windows
Acquired UPPERCUT along with the correct version of LGUP and the latest drivers
Started UPPERCUT which in turn started LGUP
Note: this will only work with your device connected and in download mode.
Selected the image mentioned above (click the File path column of the BIN file row if I remember correctly), selected upgrade, started and waited
Had a cup of tea to calm me down after a day's work of messing with my phone
After the phone rebooted, I reset it to factory settings
(you may run into an issue here with a password that you're supposed to enter, don't remember what I did there but as far as I understand it entering it wrong enough times will factory reset your phone as well)
[Optional stuff from here on out I guess]
Unlocked the phone again (fastboot flash unlock unlock.bin)
Flashed TWRP again
Installed LineageOS again
Hope that helps, good luck with your phone!

LG V30 vs996 doesn't stay in download mode or boot past Verzion screen

My friend was following the WTF V30/V30+/V30S Bootloader Unlock and Root and Frankenstein posts. He started using the Magstik to uninstall bloatware then tried applying a OTA update that showed up on the phone it restarted but never went past the Verizon load screen. The phone now no longer boots to where you can use the phone nor stays in download mode to use adb. On one computer sees the device as LGE Android MTP Device on another computer it shows it as that but the device needs troubleshooting. Anyone have any advice to get it back to where I might be able to get it functional again?
Thank you again in advance!

Why would he apply an OTA update when he no longer has full stock firmware? He had TWRP custom recovery!
Yeah, he messed up the phone.
Just to be clear WTF instructions -- that had nothing to do with his actions.
By this point he had successfully completed all those instructions and had flashed back to VS996 firmware.
The WTF Instructions tell you how to update your phone correctly once TWRP custom recovery is installed.
____
Try Master Reset from Frankenstein instructions.
Then if you can get back into Download mode, flash back to Nougat US998 via Partition DL, all partitions.
Master Reset again.
Then Refurbish to US998 Oreo 20h.
Your bootloader will still be unlocked.
Go through WTF INSTRUCTIONS SECTION 6 and re-install TWRP and the three root files again.

Thanks ChazzMatt, however I've tried the Master Reset and it doesn't seem to be doing anything to the phone. It presents the message about Delete all user data (including LG and carrier apps) and reset all settings. I select "Yes" screen goes black for about 2 to 3 seconds then I get the same message, Delete all user data (including LG and carrier apps) and reset all settings with Yes already selected. I've selected that or left it alone and the results are the same. Screen flashes LG V30 ThinQ up for a sec then the screen goes black for about 3 seconds then shows the LG V30 ThinQ again before going back to the Verizon logo screen.
Just to confirm: holding vol+ with USB plugged in during a reboot doesn't go to download mode for using LGUP. Also holding vol- with USB plugged in during a reboot doesn't go to fastboot mode for using ADB since you... Sorry, your friend, was running VS996 firmware, correct?
Correct, if I hold Vol+ and plug usb in I get download mode for maybe 2 secs but LGUP and computer doesn't recognize the phone then it begins to boot up the phone. I have the LG Mobile USB drivers installed as well. Vol- doesn't do anything. Yeah I don't know what my friend did but it doesn't seem to be good. I'm not even sure what ROM or version of ROM it has on it because he doesn't remember. All it does currently if I power it on is it sets at the Verizon traveling dots screen.

Find someone with an octoplus box and use 9008 mode to flash a kdz. I think thats your only option unless your friend can return it or warranty it through Verizon.
Then, dont ever ever take an OTA on a modded phone again.
