Honor 9 kernel source - possible release? - Honor 9 Questions & Answers

I have read on the honor view 10 forum that honor are planning on releasing the kernel sources for the view 10 in the next few weeks (https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-view-10/how-to/honor-source-program-t3732573), anyone know if there is the possibility that the sources for kirin 960 phones will also be released?
If honor are actually truly going open source, this would be brilliant as we might actually see some custom ROMS?

Actually it is said that Honor has already published kernal source of Honor 9,i think

Oh , i had not noticed that, nice to see its available, surprised there are not more custom ROMs around. I guess devs are waiting for official oreo since it makes custom ROMs easier to develop.

Redmi Note 3 vs honor 5x, which is better for you?

I have my own preference but i want to go beyond my preference, so which do you think is better?
Both are great, but I will go with the 5x since it has better custom ROM support

redmi note 3 has better specs but 5x has a good development base and many custom roms
Redmi note 3 is good in Specs. But Honor 5X is durable than Note 3.
In terms of after sales support Honor outcomes Redmi. So I would prefer Honor 5X.
definitely Honor 5X. good after sales support, better custom ROMs and an evolving community with regular updates and support.

Yes, I wouldn't buy a phone if it doesn't have community support, no matter how good it is
Also Honor 5X outwits Redmi note 3 in terms of camera quality and Dual SIM compatibility.
So Honor 5X is good.
i feel that honor 5x's build quality is a bit more premium,
redmi note 3 has a better development and custom rom support thnan honor 5x, (even got cm14)
so its based on your priority.. if you want better custom rom, deffinitely go for redmi note 3

Development is the area where Honor lags behind other brands.
I respect Honor-5x, its premium build quality. Now we have got so many roms for the device. A dedicated forum for Honor-5x in XDA and on CLUB.HIHONOR.COM is itself an achievement.
But for Note-3, Performance of Stock Rom MIUI as compared to Stock EMUI is uncomparable. Redmi Note-3 is a beast. Note-3 has a dedicated forum on MIUI site and as well as on XDA. So Support of Note-3 is undoubtedly good. Moreover Nougat series Custom Roms for Note-3 are out.
everything is good with honor 5x , except the development is COMPARITIVELY LESS, which is not a problem though
but with honor , we are guarenteed for the os updates, where mi makes no such promisses, though mi provides weekly updates, they are just security patches and bug fixes, even though they provide an os update, it will be very late..

I think the order of Nougat will be Honor 8, then 7 and then 5X. 5C after that.
Development is just a matter of time and the number of developers. Redmi Note 3 has more developers that's why they are ahead.

Honor 9 - Android 8 (Oreo)

Hello when do you get Honor 9 Android 8?
Will there ever be such an update date has there been declared for Europe I am asking.
It is in beta now, so I am assuming after it finishes that.

In Firmware Finder, there is no beta on Android 8 to get her to see it or later release it?

Guys I request everyone not to purchase these honor branded devices, even though they are marketed as flagship killers they won't receive proper updates once the device gets past the 6-9 month period, you can't even expect security updates one has to literally beg them, its better to purchase one plus, Samsung and Sony flagships because they are at least guaranteed to receive security update when ever there is a bug and proper OS upgrades, they ditched their flagship honor 7 from receiving nougat update stating Kirin 935 soc isn't compatible with newer update, similar lines this year they ditched honor 8 which boasts another flagship SOC Kirin 950 , stating the same reason its not compatible with newer Oreo update, so it clearly means that kirin 9xx is a flagship grade chip set series from Huawei which is not supportive for future upgrades? So is it good to buy them even after knowing their compatibility issues with future upgrades? I had invested 29k INR in Nov 2016 during honor 8 launch time, India and purchased this device over one plus 3T trusting their 2 year software update policy and security updates for every 3 months, clearly they cheated me and I regret buying honor 8 using my hard earned money instead of one plus device, so i request everyone to boycott honor devices, but the strange thing is honor mid ranges like 655 equipped devices are confirmed for Oreo, its a clear case of cheating to drive growth of newer flagships by ditching older flagships, Huawei as a brand itself has lot of conspiracies surrounding it, its better if we developer community boycott such brands, Good that US regulatory authorities are imposing ban on huawei, I can see the future of this company going down the drain in the similar way they expanded
I request xda please don't support this brand for monetary gains and spoil your reputation!
You honor 9 won't receive android P , going by the track record of hONOR

huawei have officially stated that the honor 8 WILL be receiving oreo,
as for the honor 9, it has full support for project treble once it gets oreo (suppose the honor 8 will have that too)
considering oreo beta 2 is taking place at he moment within Europe, i can't expect any more than 1 month until it at least becomes available in the firmwarefinder app
Wow, just wow. Are you on a spam tour? Why do you post this in every honor forum? To bad you're sour about not getting an update. Stop spamming.
How to register to get oreo beta?
For bulgaria no project to beta?

Ok, i believe i was mistaken on that one, i was pretty sure i'd read that oreo beta was taking place on both the honor 9 and 8, BUT iv'e just checked and it turns out that the honor 8 isn't officially getting oreo.
Either way, as iv'e already stated, once official oreo for the honor 9 is out, and devs get hold of the source, since its a fully supported treble build, i can only assume the custom ROMs should start to appear.
The SOC in the honor 8 is not too different from the kirin 960 (going by the actual ARM cores used in it 4xA53 in both, though the 950 has 4xA72 rather than A73 in the 960), so i can't see there being too much difficulty in porting the source code for the 960 to the 950 (i'm not proficient in this topic, so please correct me if i'm wrong, I stick to application programming, not OS core stuff)
Either way, I HOPE with project treble porting to different CPUs should be easier than it is now (requiring source code from manufacturer etc...) and hopefully we see some more custom ROMs.
Just waiting for lineage 15...

for me, i have bootloop, also after format low-lever via stock recovery
There's a warning at the bottom of the article. It should work on all devices with a kirin 970 soc. The Honor 9 has the 960, so alas, no LineageOS 15 for us yet. Guess it will come in due time.
EDIT:
I just noticed RROS was posted a few hours ago.

Security update, you have custom rom like los mokee or crdroid.
But for the rest, you right, welcome to consumer society.

Thanks a lot , exactly our 5x is slowly dying
if you had even bothered to search you would see that some devs are trying to bring oreo to the 5x but its not easy. the 5x is an obsolete budget device. huawei gave up on it after MM yet we have nougat thanks to hard working devs. the latest git posts show some progress on oreo and im sure they will eventually succeed in bringing oreo to the 5x.
for those that are impatient and want the latest update i suggest you buy a flagship with a strong dev community. nokia makes way better devices at a similar price point if money is an issue. anything released this year will come with treble support so i suggest buying something new.

Thats the point, if we dont had such great devs for los we would have nothing cause all customs roms dont care about old phones and so do manufacters.
I cant complain about this phone, best phone i bought with the oppo find7 which i lost.

not quite true, most devices have at least a bit of development interest but its not easy without having the necessary tools. thankfully google has made it easier with treble but it will still take some time until it spreads. it wont be long until os updates will come directly from google and not the OEM.
i wouldnt count on the 5x going past oreo. the good thing is that even budget devices are shipping with treble so a good selection of devices will be available from here on. im just waiting till the LG G6 gets oreo so i can ditch this phone. i hope everyone else has good alternatives.
Install lineage and get monthly security updates, who cares about oreo, if you want to have oreo functions customise your rom, there's no function on oreo that probably cant be added with an app

How likely is the Huawei MediaPad M5 8 to get Android 10?

What are the chances? I know it released last year and it has been updated to 9.0, here in the UK anyway. But I want to know if it is future proof for at least the next android version. How are Huawei with updates?
My answer is based on someone in the US with a US M5, there is not a snowflakes chance in hell it's getting it. [emoji3]

9 is rolled out widely, but in the US. Nevertheless I doubt that we will see Android 10 from Huawei. Lucky are only those who were able to unlock their bootloader as they can use the GS images and will probably have Android 11 and ...
I saw a list of devices getting the emui 10 and only the Mediapad M6 was on it, so highly unlikely the M5 will ever see it.
haha doubt it, mine haven't even been updated to android 9... Never mind 10, its the 4g model... last update was August security patches
It's a great little tablet but still being stuck with 8 (here in the US, anyway) sucks. That lack of continuity among devices (10 on my Pixel 3XL and 4XL) is probably the most frustrating thing about living in the Android ecosystem.
My M5 10 has had official Android 9.1 for quite a while now. My latest security patch is from october this year.
I have read that the M5 Lite 8 has Android 10 available as beta in some zones, although I don't know if the sources are good.

Hi,
can you post the source please?
I have M5 10.8 LTE and I have EMUI9.1 since August 2019 and still received a few day ago security patch october 2019.
I have no insider knowledge on this, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility. On one hand Huawei have released a comprehensive list of devices to get 10 and the M5 isn't on it. But on the other hand, Huawei have a reputation to fix after the Trump/Google ban debacle, and the pinned tweet on their UK Twitter account says that they are committed to Android updates for existing devices. It wouldn't surprise me if they extend their 10 rollout just to rebuild their rep.
I inquired Huawei UK regarding EMUI 10 (as I asked specifically for my 8.5 LTE) and the customer support replied regarding the matter and said that "the software should be with you by the end of January (2020)."
