Wifi calling on EE in the UK - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
Has anyone bought the phone from somewhere like Carphone warehouse on an EE contract? Could you tell me if VoLTE or Wifi Calling work?
Thanks

I bought the pro from carphone warehouse on Sunday and put my ee sim in. Wifi calling worked out of the box. Not tried volte.

Thanks for the reply. I actually went with 3 in the end as I needed this guaranteed. But glad it's working for you!! ?Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow!

Hi Skoobee,
When you purchased from CPW did you just purchase sim free and use an existing EE sim or did you purchase with a new EE contract?
I'm already an EE customer but I'm considering getting the phone from CPW and notice that they have a 1 month EE contract option. I was wondering if that might be worth doing in order to ensure that the phone comes installed with the correct firmware for EE wifi calling giving myself the best chance of having it working.

So where can I buy one in the UK?

I want a handset only as I'm on Three but I was just wondering where I can get the handset? I cannot find any info anywhere for anything other than EE which suck with their crazy prices and low data caps. Also if I manage to get one will it support Three's eventual 4G release as they will be using 1800mhz?
Thanx.
Id be interested in picking up a yellow one.. My local phones4u had a demo one out but knew nothing about it :S
I emailed Stephen Elop directly about this, and to my surprise - he responded, all be it very vague.
I aired my concerns about the limited sale on EE - and asked if there were any options coming for SIM-FREE. I understand why his answer was vague, as I could be anyone at the end of the day.
But it doesn't look good for those of us wanting one without signing an EE contract in the UK anytime soon..
I'll just not buy one then, their loss :\
I have a yellow 920 on pre-order that due to arrive tomorrow with Phone4U. However, there is a lot of confusion about if these handsets are locked or not. I really don't want to use Orange / T-Mobile / EE as I am currently happy with Vodafone.
So funny how Nokia have released their best Smart Phone yet and most people cannot buy it. Firstly it is EE exclusive and they've said it will be until at least next year, secondly all handset only phones are locked to EE as well and thirdly EE prices are stupid and offer barely any data.
I would have been quite interested but WTF are Nokia doing?
I saw the Lumia 920 in Phones4U yesterday. Lovely looking phone but Nokia messed up. Personally for me I waited long enough for this phone to come out but with all the shenanigans around it I couldn't wait any longer. I hope you guys are happy with it. I went with the Note2 in the end. A truly amazing phone!

Madness isnt it.
Quite fancied this phone to pair up with a Windows 8 setup, but they are making it impossible to obtain one.
It's the only WP8 of the bunch with a stand out feature.
Here in Germany where I live you can buy the Lumia 920 factory unlocked no problem.
This is where I ordered mine for example: https://www.handytick.de/handys/nokia/nokia-lumia-920-black.htm
They say that they ship outside of Germany on prior request only but maybe you can try to contact them and ask if they can ship the phone over to the UK.
Here is their email address so that you don't have to try navigating that German website: [email protected]
Hope that helps.

p.s. I'm in no way associated with that website nor I'm getting any kind of money from them for "promoting" their site - I'm just trying to help
This is nuts. I fear that Nokia with the only 4G WP8 device on the UK market and with a killer camera & touchscreen are going to really muck up this launch.
For starters, if I'm paying £460 for a phone I don't want to be limited to a Red or Yellow one! I'm 6 months into a 24 month contract (on a GS3) and want to go back to WP. I want to future proof myself so 4G is a must but I want a phone I can sell easily if & when the next toy comes along. A Red Lumia locked to EE is none of those!!! I really do hope Phone4U will be selling unlocked phones and not just Red & Yellow one's. Otherwise I'll sadly end up sticking to my Galaxy S3
A bright red or yello phone just says 'mug me'

I can't deff confirm it because I haven't received mine yet but since the auction on eBay where I bought it from (which was from that store) said that it is SIM free I'm pretty that it will be.
Besides that it's pretty normal here in Germany that you can buy almost all phones SIM free.

This one on German eBay is a little bit more expensive but it says that it can be shipped within the entire EU (expect some excluded locations, but Poland isn't listed there):
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Nokia-Lumia-...dy-ohne-Vertrag-Smartphone-WLan-/390492880243
It also says that it's SIM free.
This was just the first one I came across when I tried to find a dealer that would ship to Poland though, there might be a cheaper one around too.
Just search for Lumia 920 on German eBay.de or search for sthg like "Lumia 920 bestellen" on Google and you might find some more offers.
If you can't find out what you need using Google Translator just post it here and I'll be happy to help with reading German.

So I went into my local P4U they are out of stock! It will take a couple of weeks for them to get them in, I was like your the only retailer to have it as you have exclusivity and EE the sales guy was like oh is it I didn't know that! Kmt, smh.

Nokia obviously don't want my money.
I already have an S3 on contract so I was looking to buy sim free but noooo, can't have that.
Can see Nokia going the way of the dinosaur soon.
will EE unlock it if you buy?
just wondering whether you could ask EE to unlock the phone for you, once you've purchased it and signed up to a contract?

I didnt check but I was in Taipei and Indonesia last week and the 920 worked fantastic; using an ATT sim and roaming on the other networks.
I bought my 920 full price but when I tried to unlock it ATT said it was a six month exclusive and they would not unlock until that time.

No, because AT&T 920s will be sim locked to AT&T for the next 6 months. But, you can roam internationally just fine, on your AT&T plan.
There have been several threads here on this issue. Let’s not start another.

Ive noticed that site doesnt support uk carriers. Thanks anyway
I too am looking for an answer to this as I want to buy one from Gumtree or Ebay and some are locked.
Thanks
Still looking, anyone?

Try http://www.getunlocked.com/ I used them for my AT&T S6, but I am pretty sure they support other carriers as well. I contacted the before hand and they said the CANNOT unlock the T-Mobile (USA) S6, but that everything else should be fine. It appears that T-Mobile has their own customer ROM/app for the S6so the regular unlocking sites don't work.
You can always try asking them http://www.getunlocked.com/contact-us/

Hi,
Here is what Samsung Netherland Support says:
Send the Email (Netherland Samsung Support Page)
Subject: TAV Ibrahim
Date of Purchase
Serial Number
Model Number
IMEI Number
Reason to Unlock (Why are you Requesting to use another SIM Card)
Invoice (Attached)
Complete Address
In my case, they will check the data, send to Samsung Korea on Friday and Receive the Unlock PIN on next Tuesday.
I'm waiting for my code right now. Hope works.
I suggest who has the same problem contact your sale support page (country where you purchased).
I thought it was now a law here in the US that all cell phones are supposed to be unlocked? Am I misunderstanding something?
me too, eire three
I believe that in the US, it is only required for carriers once the phone is out of contract. At that time, you can then request unlock code. If you want it before then you have to go through a 3rd party.

I ordered it from ebay and might receive in on the 22nd or 23rd, and i am not a customer so i am looking for another place to have it unlocked. But since you said they can do it for a price as well, can i just go to any local O2 store and ask for it? That would be easier for me instead of doing it on my own.

SIM/Network Unlock TMobile S7+

Yes, I paid off my device then it automatically sent me a notification to unlock. I went to Settings>connections>more connection settings and clicked the unlock button. Now it shows that my tablet is network unlocked.

That's great news. My device is paid off in that I bought it from Samsung ..... Should I just call TMobile? Since it obviously can be unlocked

I'll try it but not real confident
I just got the Jan security update from T-Mobile. When I run it now it tells me my tablet doesn't meet the requirements. The support page says it must be active for 40 days, which I haven't quite cleared yet.
Not the end of the world but I can piggyback on to my existing ATT plan for $10 a month. The t-mobile plan is 50 unless there's a better option?
I'm still on the October Security patch .... wonder if it would be worth the time for 2 factory resets lol??
I got a plan for my tablet with T-Mobile that was originally $60. But they offer a discount since I have a phone line and a couple of dollars for autopay. I get unlimited data on my tablet for $20 a month. Can't really complain!

I've posted a couple of places but I think the easiest and best way is to temporarily activate the TMO SIM. I then contacted TMO Twitter support ...... They know what's going on, the phone support doesn't. Tell them you have a Samsung device that's paid for. Can they please network unlock the device. Within 48 hrs I was able to unlock my device in the settings

Yes. Initially I tried their online chat, then called in and then went to a store. No luck with any of them. They directed me to Samsung, who then directed me back to T-Mobile. I messaged them on Facebook and Twitter. The Twitter attempt went nowhere. However, they engaged with me on Facebook Messenger quickly and were able to get my S7+ T-Mobile tablets unlocked. I gave them the IMEI numbers and they submitted a request to Samsung who then (somehow) whitelisted my IMEIs. This process took a couple days. Then I was able to successfully use "Permanent Unlock" under Settings - Connections - More Connection Settings - Network Unlock.
Now I'm trying to figure out how to make this thing work on AT&T...

I bought a t mobile with hopes of activation to att after my 60days. Turns out from my business att rep that the s7+ isn't compatible on att. It's isn't compatible with Verizon either but I put my son's sim in it and worked like a champ.
Today I took my buddies att sim and it worked like a champ. I took a new att sim activated for another device and popped it into the tmobile tablet and it never registered. Not sure why my buddies iPhone sim worked but not the new att activated one or how a Verizon sim worked.
