My phone was rooted, I wanted to restore it back, if I root my phone again will it have my old stuff like my pictures from my previous rooting.
Why you are even attempting to root your phone when you don't even know what rooting is is beyond me.
It sounds like you unlocked the bootloader and your device was wiped. If that's what you meant by rooting, then no everything is gone forever.
You can unroot the device, and you can also relock the bootloader. Neither of these will get your "old stuff" back, and they are typically only done if you are sending your phone in for a replacement.
Unlocking the bootloader ≠ rooting.
with all the security related threats recently i'm realizing i really need to re-lock my bootloader.
any links on how to do this? i've searched and it's all about unlocking and a few on un-rooting.
i need to retain root, but want a locked bootloader so if i lose my phone it's less likely to have its data siphoned.
CWM, unsure of version
thanks!
Hi,
I have been playing around with Android for quite some time, and each of my devices have been unlocked an rooted, but this time it's different.
I have succesfully persuaded my girlfriend to make the shift from iPhone to an Android device, buying her a HTC One GSM (LTE).
To begin with, she will go with the stock HTC firmware, but to make life a bit easier, I started with unlocking the bootloader, installed the latest ClowkWorkMod (think it is 6.0.3.3 touch) and made a Nandroid backup of the stock firmware in case we ever need to restore.
And now to the question:
To get the OTA update for Android 4.2.2 I then needed to re-lock the bootloader and install stock recovery. But now I would like to have the bootloader unlocked again, so I can install ClockWorkMod again to make yet another Nandroid backup.
Does any method exist that avoids deleting existing data (settings, apps, documents etc.) from the SD card when re-unlocking the bootloader?
I were just about to flash the Unlock_code.bin sent from HTC, but just before confirming, I realized that this method will most likely wipe all data?
Thanks in advance!
PS: I'm sorry if this question should have been posted in the device specific forum section, but I choose to characterize this as a more general Android question.
Just decided to unlock my bootloader since the DRM fix is not much of hassle anymore, and this way I can run some of the nice kernels available for our device, so I backed up everything on the phone and proceeded with the unlocking (expecting a factory reset/data wipe), I've had my device unlocked/relocked before, and even restored my original TA partition at the time since I had a backup, but when I unlocked my device today, that was it, no data loss or factory reset happened, not even a warning from flashtools about it, flashtools said "unlocked", I rebooted the device and everything worked without even reflashing the rom or even a kernel.
I'm pretty sure my device was bootloader locked because I used the TA-backup app to restore my TA last time, and once that happens my understanding is the bootloader gets locked automatically, plus all the DRM features were working fine (camera, sound) without flashing the DRM fix (I updated/flashed multiple LP/MM stock roms since then).
So my question is : did sony remove the factory reset on unlock/relock, or is my device just doing something on it's own ? just curious.
That's interesting. Perhaps they did update the bootloader with a firmware upgrade, but I highly doubt it, and it probably has something to do with your procedure (unlocking, relocking and unlocking again) because it would open a big gapping security hole for personal info.
eg: Nothing keeps me from stealing someone's phone, reading the IMEI, requesting an unlock code, unlocking the BL, flashing a custom TWRP-enabled kernel, dumping all device data to SD card and stealing all of its info. This is why unlocking the BL wipes the device.

I know, but at least for me this is 100% working, I even relocked my bootloader, flashed the TA backup to get the DRM keys back, and still nothing changed, and I made sure after the unlock to check that DRM keys are gone (camera quality) and flash a custom kernel, to make sure it was 100% unlocked, and it was.
Since relocking, I did a full .291 flash using flashtools, I was hoping some interested dev can pick on this, it might be helpful to use for exploits or something, no idea tbh.
Having searched high and low without finding an answer, I have done a factory reset (uninstalled Magisk root, I did not install TWRP so I did not trip Knox, Odined factory image back to device) which was easy enough, but I cannot find out how to RELOCK the bootloader to original lock so the tablet is pristine. The bootloader is still unlocked after the factory reset and I need to relock it.
So... Any help out there on how does one relock the bootloader on a Tab S6?
Thanks.
Did you try this?

For the S10, but the principle should be the same - Probably worth a try.
