mokee custom rom - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

I am planning to update from my Unofficial pixel experience rom to official latest pixel experience ROM. So do I have to clean data , system and other things completely or wiping the cache and then flashing the ROM will also work?

To flash a nightly or any other Rom update all you need to do is wipe Cache partition and Dalvik cache, then flash the update in recovery. You do not have to flash Gapps. All your apps will remain unchanged.

You don't even need to wipe dalvik or cache, I can't remember the last time I did when flagging cm nightlies and I've been flashing them for years now

What about if i have cm 10.1 stable, but want to flash cm 10.2 nightly? Do i need to do a full wipe and flash the new rom, gapps, and lean kernel?

You should always wipe when making a major os upgrade.

Can't get into 7.1xx ROMs

Hi,
I have been using Nexys Experience ROM and I am in love with it. However, recently I wanted to try a 7.1 ROM. I am officially bootloader unlocked and currently using twrp-3.0.M4-0
The problem I am facing, no matter how I try, I cannot boot any 7.1 ROM. I have tried RR, CM14.1 and their respective firmware but after flashing the ROMs never boot and stuck on bootlogo.
Possible Combinations I tried:
1) Flashed CM14.1 Firmware
2) Flashed CM14.1 ROM + Gapps
Result: Stuck on Bootlogo animation

2) Flashed CM14.1 Firmware
Result: Stuck on Bootlogo animation
1) Flashed RR ROM + Gapps
2) Flashed CM14.1 Firmware

I use f2fs on /data and /cache
Any probable solution?
Is there any errors occurred during flashing process?

Nevermind, I reformatted /data and /cache using ext4 again and flashed EU Rom. Seems to be working. I tried EU rom before but it wasn't working because of f2fs.
Will try any 14.1 rom soon.

f2fs is good but as I will need to go back & forth MIUi & CM/AOSP I guess it's better to stay on EXT4 for now. Until MIUI adds f2fs support.

Hows nexus rom? Is it better then miui in terms of performance and stability? And dual sims are working on nexus experience rom?
I am currently on latest Miui 8 MM 6.12.8 (Epic Rom).. I have ZCX twrp installed and bootloader unlocked officially, can you guide where to start so that I can go back and forth Miui Cm/AOSP, I mean is there anything which need to be backed up before moving to nexus rom so that I can easily come back to Miui 8 MM..

IMO Nexus Experience is the most stable ROM I used. And the dev doesn't push any useless updates. In my usage, it was so much better than miui. I didn't try dual sim because I have only single sim. But should work without any trouble.
If you are official unlocked first flash the twrp recovery from TheStrix's CM thread. After twrp you can install any MIUI from Xiaomi Eu via the twrp recovery. They update the rom when there is a new stable release. Xiaomi eu roms are better than global rom because it does not have unnecessary softwares and also the china based rom which is more stable and optimized. I also used a debloating script that stripped away all junks of MIUI.
If you want to switch from miui, flash any custom rom using the same procedure. However, you should always do a wipe (factory reset) before flashing any rom.

Thank you very much for guidance, I need both of my sims to work so its my main concern, If somebody is using dual sims on NX experience rom 10.4 kindly let me know so that I can flash it as well.
There is twrp-3.0.M4-0 recovery recommended by TheStrix on his CM thread, is this the one?
If we check nexus experience rom's page, they have recommended to use alka recovery only, kindly check below:
http://en.miui.com/thread-357205-1-1.html
And which version of Radon Kernel you are using? Is it 3.2?
Best Regards,

NX Experience is a very nice and smooth rom I have just installed it and I'm loving it.
Kindly let me know how to enable screenshot button in notification panel? I can't find it anywhere.. The only thing which I am missing right now coming from Miui, is three fingers swipe down to take screenshot, is there any alternative?
Did you install Xposed Framework? If yes then which version and from where did you download it..
Thanks & Best Regards,

I think you will need to factory reset and wipe the vendor partition. I don't know whether you will also need to "format data" (which will also wipe your internal SD) - but it should not be necessary. Flash your miui ROM, and then flash lazyflasher.

How to check if you are using the latest vendor??
Just wipe everything than flash the latest vendor and then go on with the latest Pixel Experience rom. That's it.......

You don't have to wipe anything to flash the vendor or the update to the ROM. Don't go about giving wrong advice.

Suggest a recovery for Curtana

Hey guys, I have a few questions regarding the recovery, any help is appreciated.
1>Which Recovery did you flash?
2>Can you dirty flash roms(to update the ROM from one ver. to another) in it?(Because i read that the data must be cleared after flashing any rom)
3>Which ROM and recovery are you on?
4>Are there any special methods you need to follow to flash?
Thanks in advance :good:
LineageOS recovery
No dirty flash
LineageOS 17.1
Adb sideloading

1. OrangeFox Alpha build (note the description "Alpha" - meaning it is still at a pre-release stage)
2. You must format data if changing ROMs
3. I have tried 6 Android 11 ROMs (all of them have one issue or the other), and 10 Android 10 ROMs. I will probably settle for EvoX or Corvus (Android 10, both by dungphp)
4. No. Just select ROM zip and flash, and then format data

Idk. I guess it depends on the ROM, and on what has happened between the release of the old version and the new version. If the new release of the ROM doesn't involve dramatic changes to the trees, then, perhaps formatting will not be required. You should follow the recommendations of the ROM's developer.
By the way, I said nothing about wiping data. I referred to formatting data - which is a completely different thing.

what i wanted to know was if i had to format the data partition (like we do for clean flashing to a different ROM) for dirty flashing

I started with the Russian twrp by wszx150 but have also used pbrp, twrp by mauronofrio (most likely to become official twrp for curtana), and I'm now using Orange Fox Alpha (admittedly for its good looks). Every version has its own strengths and weaknesses so it really depends on what you want to do.
For instance, most (or all) TWRP versions cannot decrypt data partition after you change ROMs hence format data is mandatory before you switch (from encrypted) roms.
AFAIK only lineage twrp supports adb sideload,
Pbrp, lwtrp, and the aforementioned twrp by wszx150 are basically same in terms of functionality.
Most work well for backup and restore...
Mtp file transfer doesn't work in Orange Fox (i can overlook that as it is in Alpha stage).
What I'm saying is don't try to get your mind fixed on just one. Such a Swiss Army knife doesn't exist (yet) for RN9 pro.
