Hi XDA, i would like to request forum for Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. It has been released for a month and don't have forum yet. Thank you so much. Sorry for my bad english
This forum is open for the Xiaomi Mi 8 and all its variables.
While the names sound similar, the two phones are sufficiently different that things designed for one usually won't work for the other. E.g. phone cases, screen protectors, TWRP, latest MIUI version, ROM, etc.
I think there is a case to have separate areas so we don't get confusing comments like "this thing does not work" just because the user has the other phone type.

Also contrast our device with the Huawei P20, for which 3 separate forums have been created for the standard, pro and lite versions.
Just wondering if the admin/moderators will respond at all?

Hello everyone,
it seems like ZTE need our vote and voices and they have created a Poll , here is the info and link :
https://community.zteusa.com/polls/1618
Welcome to our weekly Bits And Bytes poll and discussion! Give your honest opinion, debate ferociously, and respect each other at all times...
Question: If you had to pick one, would you prefer stock Android or the ability to choose from various community-developed custom ROMs?
Context: In the complex world of mobile operating systems or anything really, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. However, many are in the camp that believe stock Android comes close. But there's also the camp that believes only custom ROMs are the way to go, enabling users to select from different permutations of stock Android. If you had to pick one option, which option floats your boat and why?
Action: 1. Select one of the options below and 2. reply to justify your reasoning. Although there is no correct answer, please provide sound reasoning to support your selection. After a week or so, your Mod Squad will soon identify and reward those with the most thoughtful responses!

I will vote stock Android since we are already unlocked, and with a stock Android image to work with anything is possible. Really don't understand why they picked these two options.
I'm so tired of these polls.
I agree, at least in the general ZTE forum every freaking thread is a stupid poll. At least this one is from ZTE itself.

This is so true. I didn't even find the ZTE pool yesterday. But when I came across this thread I realized there is one.
Their forum has become very cluttered since the price drop for the Axon-7 for Xmas...
Hi guys, I'm considering buying this phone, but I haven't used Xiaomi before
Right now I have a Huawei P8 and I regret buying it, pretty great specs but the firmware (i.e. bootloader, drivers) and software (their Android build) is crap. I recently installed CyanogenMod which is already a huge improvement, but the battery is only 2600mA and it's aged, so I don't even get a half day of medium high usage (watching videos, web, etc)
What I would like to know is mainly about the MIUI business
Huawei emui is crap, so please tell me whatever you want about Xiaomi's one
Also should I get the mtk or the sd version? Are there any other differences?
Is there anything you dislike about your note 4? I didn't do my homework before buying my P8, so please be honest with any problems you have with the phone
Feel free to ask me for clarification or additional preferences if I've left out anything
I feel I should mention that I'm a power user
I will definitely want to root my new phone, probably Xposed too, and if I don't like Xiaomi's ROM, then I'll probably use lineage OS
On that note, how easy is it to do the above? Should I be satisfied with MIUI?

You can play with your phone whatever you want, there are tons of roms available right now, rooting and flashing is easy, but I think unlocking the dayyym bootloader might take few days.
If you don't like Miui, you can always switch, Infact i dont like Miui its sucks for me. I left Miui like long ago, I won't be reverting to Miui anytime soon.
Its depends, some of em likes Miui, most of em' don't, custom Roms FTW!!
Battery is great, camera is also good.. [sorry I dont take photos, I dunno about quality ??]
Go get it, that's all I'd like to say!
Careful it has two variant; Snapdragon and Mediatek SoC. If you're custom ROM's addict, pick the SD ones.

I'm very much the same, almost never use camera. I've heard MIUI has beat features, like the double account thing. But you're right, if I don't like it there's always another ROM (in which case the Snapdragon would be better since more ROMs)

Yes I noticed from browsing the forums, but I mean I'm generally very content with Cyanogen, so I don't think I need too much variety.
The having to wait to get bootloader code sounds similar to Huawei, but what a large portion of Huawei users didn't know about was the website that let you fill in your details and instantly get a code (Huawei website, not shady stuff)

Edit: I looked through the Snapdragon ROMs
Seems it's all basically MIUI or cyanogen variants
(i.e they look similar to my current ROM)
So although "mido" has more ROMs, it seems to be more of the same

Well, I got it.
CM is dead and LineageOS is the new CM now.
But but.. If I were you I'd like to choose SD variant over an MTK one, because of development.
The stable Roms you get, when EOL of a device then there might be newer android versions via custom roms, where as MTK variant stuck, if you look in the MTK variant roms, kernel sections, you'll get it.
check on miui website for locked bootloader and you will definitely avoid this great but due to lock phone.

Hello to all,
sorry if I open another thread for this request, but Cosmic Dan, dev who was working on MIUI GSI, has abandoned the porting. He told me that all WIP was pushed to GitHub, so please is there any devs who can port MIUI Rom on treble devices? (I have Honor View 10). Thanks
Hi,
for information, I made the same request in MIUI Porting Team forum: http://en.miui.com/thread-3355142-1-1.html
I hope someone will be able to finish the kitchen.
PS: Even if CosmicDan give up, I would like to thank him for the time he spent trying to port MIUI to treble phones.
I have a feeling this will have the same outcome as the other thread. Why are people so desperate for MIUI anyway? If you want it, go buy a Xiaomi phone, they're relatively inexpensive for smart phones nowadays.

When there will be ever a miui gsi it will not be the same as on a real miui device. It would be illegal to Integrate all the cloud based miui features..

It is not illegal if you're not selling it, besides; xiaomi will appreciate you using its cloud and cloud based features as they can offer you services that requires money and make profit out of you, as you may know; xiaomi does not makes profit out of hardware but of its miui software and its bloatwares, so i think its a win win situation.
The spirit of using GSI roms is to be able to try anything.
To say if you like Samsung OS, LG OS, or Miui OS go buy it. Does nothing but prove that you are arrogant and clueless.
Please miui ROM GSI

Abroad different forums OP fans seem to be triggered when talking about MIUI, or request it for an OP device.
Be helpful or don't reply at all if you're gonna be a **** about it.
I absolutely love MIUI, however due to the device not being sold in the Netherlands, I chose for an OP6 (Warranty, local support etc), on which I hope some day I can flash MIUI10 on.

I barely remember making this comment. But, I was a little rude, no doubt. I remember that someone made a very rude ( that commenter was dickish)
Their comment about how people should buy Miui, instead of simply asking about gaining access to a ported Miui Rom.
Why say something like this, on a custom Rom website, and in the GSI rom section!
I cant find that comment now....deleted? Regardless, the spirit of using custom Roms and and especially GSI roms is to be able to have access to a wide variety of Roms, and its nice to have something different instead of the usual CAF and AOSP roms.
Yes, its nice to have greater access, and to be able to try different things. Thanks to being able to try a ported miui rom, my next phone will absolutely be a Xiaomi. You cannot currently buy Xiaomi in the US, and thanks to our political "geniuses" Chinese phone prices are sure to skyrocket, making Xiaomi plans to expand into the US market, even less certain.
Regardless, my next phone will very likely be a Mi Mix 2s, largely because I was able to try the Miui software via a ported custom rom. Although I cannot find the phones locally they are certainly easily found online.
Wouldn't it be nice to be able to find GSI roms, that allow us to try a greater variety customised android OS's by One Plus, LG, Samsung, Huawei? I think so.

That is very sad. Miui is a great UI.
Is there a dedicated forum in xda that is for the OnePlus 7 T-Mobile 5G Mclaren?
If not, is there a Rooting/Unlocking Guide? I've found one for the OnePlus 7T Pro, but that has a different chipset right than the T-Mobile 5g. Or is the process the same?
I'm sure the process is the same for unlocking but then I got thinking about ROMs because of the T-Mobile 5G Mclaren having a different chipset supporting the 5G
the modem is different. No dedicated forum yet, I'm going to wait until 7T pro development moves along a bit
Yes can the mods do this ? It's a little rough trying to sort thru all the regular op stuff for McLaren 5g stuff .. Mods?..
I also agree we need a dedicated forum.
I concur.
Please make a sub forum for mclarren tmo edition thank you
I also agree, @xda can we please get a dedicated forum? This device is not like other OnePlus devices in the past, flashing stuff from Europe and Global can have irreversible effects as of now. Thanks in advance
Sorry to hear that guys hope the mods will open a decicated one... As long as i know you need an unlocl code for the tmobile mclaren 5g?
Rooting and custom Kernel on the 4g mclaren Version are very nice... Fast, smooth and better battery than stock. But as long as there isnt a fully functional TWRP custom roms are waiting, but besides that its one of the best devices ive ever owned in terms of root and custom Kernel... Ota with root and custom Kernel without problems is so nice...
So guys sorry for the smalltalk hope youre good

Respectfully, having a separate forum for the 5G McLaren would be more beneficial for everyone! Like the 3 and 3T series, you can have certain threads for cross-development, but have a forum dedicated to 5G McLaren exclusive threads (i.e. msm tool, 5G specific ROMs, etc.)
+1
(pun intended) - Requesting separate forum.
Yep, Let's Rock with our own 5G McLaren forum! Cheers

I completely understand your explanation.
But I have a different opinion on this matter.
There are specific issues that this device has and there is no way this device can be supported by simply having scattered bits and pieces through this forum just so people can negativity offer responses like "this is op7t pro forum not McLaren". We need a dedicated space for TMobile McLaren especially if there aren't any other McLaren 5g versions because we can't succeed in building TWRP or other custom ROMs or getting knowledge from more experienced devs. We can only be off topic for now to everyone else. Thanks.
I agree there should be a separate forum for this. It's too confusing otherwise. Respectfully...
I concur, we need a dedicated forum.
Hi everyone,
let me preface this with saying that I have searched for similar threads to avoid redundant threads, and I didn't find anything similar to this. I apologize in case I somehow missed it and am accidentally making a duplicate thread. That said, let's continue.
I recently got a Xiaomi Redmi Note 11S. I really love the hardware - it's pretty good for its price; the battery capacity is high, I like the 90Hz refresh rate and the AMOLED screen, decent storage capacity, and the 33W fast charging is really cool too.
The software, however, is another story. Firstly, there is a lot of bloatware. Various stores, games, etc. that I never asked for. And even worse, secondly, on every corner there is a privacy violation. Every time I clicked on a different app, I needed to accept a different user agreement, privacy policy, or something similar. The camera app literally requires an internet connection and yet another ToS agreement to use. And I've looked into such an agreement to see what they do, and apparently they reserve the right to look at your screen's displayed contents. What. The. F-
I would really like to use this device as it is an upgrade over my current phone, but man, I'm not using it with the default software. For this reason I came here to ask about which custom ROMs are good for my purposes. I would like something that has few invasive features and other spyware, and is also relatively open for customization and such as I like to be in control of the hardware I own.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
I have yet to find a device specific ROM for this phone. Apparently they're hard to develop because the chip manufacturer (Mediatek) doesn't release their source code? You could try a GSI but that's beyond my skillset.
To make me feel a bit better about my privacy I've used Debloater to uninstall the bloat that I don't want on the phone at all. I then use AFWall+ to block the apps that I want to use but don't trust from accessing the internet.
Note that this requires rooting your phone, but that's straightforward these days.
Hi, thanks for the reply.
I'm new to the community. Could you please explain me what a GSI is?
Those things sound like a good idea for the time being. I'll look into them when I have more time. As for rooting, I'm sure there's countless of guides out there. If you know a good one I'd appreciate it, but I'm sure that out of everything, this is the one thing I'll easily manage myself.
Though while this is a good temporary solution, I still feel uneasy about it as it's not necessarily specific apps, but the OS itself that does the spying, so I think I'll wait and see if someone else replies with more suggestions. Perhaps someone in this forum is some kind of custom ROM genius. Despite that, I really appreciate your reply and not getting judged for being new. Have a nice day/evening/morning (depending on your time zone).
A GSI is a Generic System Image - basically it's a ROM that isn't tailored to a specific device, but will broadly work on any device. However this means that it's likely to be a little bit buggy on most devices. I don't know much about GSIs, but I'm sure there are threads on here.
I believe that the only Android 11 GSI that is still maintained is the Google GSI. You'd want the aosp_arm64_ab build for this device I think. I have no idea how well this would work, I don't even know how you'd flash it!
This is my guide for rooting this phone, it's pretty straightforward I think, once you've got the bootloader unlocked.
Root POCO M4 Pro 4G (fleur) using Magisk
Rooting the POCO M4 Pro 4G (fleur) turned out to be quite straightforward. Note, I have a 2201117PG (EEA), you may have a different experience, it's not my fault if you brick your phone etc. Backup before you start as this will wipe your phone...
