Just want to make sure that I'm dealing with a hardware and not a software problem....
Device: OOS 3.1.4, TWRP, Magisk 18.1, Xposed, Arsenic kernel. Battery replaced just a month ago.
Friday, I noticed my phone reporitng a battery level of 100% after using it for most of the day. Plugged it in to charge and it wouldn't charge. After reboot it showed the correct level, and would accept a charge.
Saturday morning, on unplugging the phone I noticed that the notification LED flickered a few times, as if the phone though it was still being charged. After a few flickers it stops.
Since then, the phone charges fine. However, I noticed that my car's Android Auto no longer recognized the phone as being plugged in. After a bit more snooping, I realized the phone's lost data transfer capabilities over the USB. Here's what I've tried (and failed)
Plugging into computer with multiple different cables and different ports.
USB Debug + ADB -- no new devices detected in device manager
Fastboot -- throws a "device descriptor request failed"
Repeated the above after re-installing the 15 second ADB drivers -- no luck.
Boot into TWRP and attempt to ADB via side-load -- nothing
Wiped everything except boot and EFS in TWRP, re-flash stock ROM -- nothing
At this point, is there any possibility that it's still software? Can a kernel error do this? Or is it purely hardware and I should look for a new phone?
You can try to clean the connector.
Did clean it. No luck
I had also faced almost same kind of problem. When i plugged it for charge LED won't blink but it charged. After some days that stopped too. So i changed charging port from a repairing shop. After some days data transfer stopped with original charging cable and my PC recognized it as unknown broken device. So i bought another charging cable and now everything works.
TL;DR -- it works
Just an update...since my last post, I had an episode where it boot-loops. I suspect this was because I had used the "advanced mounting" on Apps2SD that warns that it can boot loop. The fix requires ADB which I couldn't do, but somehow re-flashing the stock ROM breaks the bootloop (but USB still doesn't work).
Reinstalled Arsenic, Apps2SD, Magisk. Have had the occasional freeze (usually while on the phone, and once when trying to transfer something to the SD card). Dialed down the undervolting (which has been rock solid until now) and maybe it helped a bit? I still froze once while on completely stock settings though.
HOWEVER...had my phone plugged into a Linux-based thin-client for charging...and after around 15 minutes, it spontaneous went into debug mode. Data transfer works now, as does ADB. With all of my cables that I know are good.
What happened? no clue.

Hi all... i got my V for a month and now it is not charging anymore. neither from the ac adapter nor my computer usb..and my computer couldnt detect my phone is plug to the USB port....just nothing pops out. The debugging mode status icon, and the storage icon is not shown on my phone.
basically... i tried everything i found on Google...
reboot my phone, pop out the battery, change cable[from other optimus V], changed battery, different ports on my computer, different computer, different AC adapter, different SD card, format my SD card, factory reset, and the last thing i tried is to rooted my phone and flash with a I.H.O CM7.1 ROM.
no hope at all; however, when i plugged to the usb port or the ac adapter, then i take out the battery.. the phone does power up and say required battery....
so, if anyone had this problem before and solved it.. please help me out. between, i cant return the phone anymore.. it is over a month.
forgot to mention... it is the second time this charging issue happened. the first time, it fixed itself after i plugged into the PC, windows recognized it, and installed the drivers. [well, i already installed the driver before this happened, because i was doing some coding and debugging]
this time.... windows is doing nothing, no message pop out, no new driver found.. just nothing. and my phone doesn't shows the debugging icon on the status bar even thought i ticked the debugged mode On, and connected to the usb.
sorry for my bad grammar =[
maybe see if your pc recognizes it while rebooted into recovery.
you could also try removing all the lg and Android drivers in device manager (select show hidden devices to get at them) and then plugging the phone into the pc again.
or use a Ubuntu "live cd" to check the connectability... micro$oftware is uppity, my kid's windoze computer doesn't like my v, although it used to see it fine.
I've also read that toggling debugging, disconnecting and reconnecting the cable, then toggling usb debugging again can help.
also, froyo roms are supposed to go to a charge mode when turned off but still plugged in.
I thought I would share this. I am kind of answering my own question but I am not really sure how I got into the state that I did.
Today I realized that I could no longer connect via USB to my PC. My phone has DietICS ROM. I tried the following:
New Cable
New USB port
Cache wipe
Dalvik wipe
Factory Reset
Rolling back to a previous nandroid that I knew worked
Reinstalling USB drivers
I still couldn't connect the phone as a media device and nothing was reported in Device Manager.
I ended up trying to put the phone in download mode and firing up Odin (to see if it would show as connected) and whalla. It saw the phone. I shut the phone down and rebooted it again and everything was working as it should.
If anyone has any insight on this, it would be appreciated. I am still not sure if it was the PC or the phone that had the hiccup.
Did you try rebooting the PC? I don't see that on your list.
Occasionally I have issues with Windows 7 (and 8) where it doesn't see that a USB device was unplugged, and if I try to use that same USB port for something else it just never detects anything.
It's rare in my case, but maybe something similar happened on your end and just having a different device ID show up (download mode shows up as a different device) kicked Windows in the pants and got your USB drivers working properly again?

bah, yes. Rebooting the PC was one of the first things. I missed that on my list.
Weird... happened again.
1.) connected device to USB. Got the double beep and charging but no "MTP" connection message on phone and nothing detected in windows.
2.) Booted phone into download mode. Connected phone and windows saw it.
3.) Rebooted phone again and everything works fine
Happened again (updating this thread for no apparent reason).
Fully powering down the phone and then booting it back up (cold boot) seems to be fixing it.

Ok, I download all roms and mods directly from phone browser so don't usually have it plugged into computer but have been having issue when trying to charge it with the factory plug. If phone is hot i have to reboot or it says "not charging" in stats. Might not even be related but i found out the battery also has an nfc inside it. Maybe it's something in the connection or the chip in battery between the port and battery..? Because when hooked to computer it also tries to charge right?

Hi guys, i realy need your help, my phone is dead.
My I9100 worked fine for two years, I flashed lots of custom firmwares by Odin. Half a moth ago, when I was going to sleep, I plugged in the charger as usually, and noticed, that it started beeping occasionally. On the display it indicated smth like: Charging... than Not Charging... than Charging and so on.
I thought that I plugged the charger incorrectly and replugged it, but it didn't helped. I was very tired and just simply turned the soud off and left the phone charging. In the morning it indicated that it is charging even when the charger was unplugged.
So I've flashed the firmware - no help, than kernel from stock to fillz - no help , than siyah than again to stock - no help. All flashings were maid via CWM. I realized that flashing will not help when I turned off the phone and it was indicating that it is charging.
I decided not to do anythig. Only USB mode didn't worked because when you want to use your phone as USB you should open the apropriate mode on the phone than there will be smth like : plug the USB data cable to enter the USB data transfer mode. I couldn't do this because my phone thought that the cable is already plugged. In forums i've got hints that my micro usb should be cleaned or small board should be replaced. So i decided to clean it. I disassembled the phone and cleaned that board with micro USB. Than turned on the phone, and connected the cable. Phone recognized it and I managed to transfer files from pc to phone. From this point I can say that all terminals on micro USB are ok.
When i unplugged the cable, phone thought that it is plugged((
The most awful part:
I decided to flash it one more time and go to stock via backup made by CWM a year ago.
But during this process the phone made a reboot by itself and after that there was no loading. I can see only name of the device and thats it.
No recovery. Only download mode.
When i connect it to PC in download mode, there is a sound that USB is connected but the device is Unknown. There is no any information about this device in dev manager on PC. I tried two USB cables, all usb ports, two laptops, all versions of USB drivers for my phone.
Earlier, drivers worked well, but now i can't understand where is the problem: Is the problem still connected with my micro usb port or i just erased boot sector and it is already brick.
I gave my phone to service center, they told that they can't help me with this. They say that usb is ok, we don't know why it is not detecting by pc.
Can the board replacement help in this issue or maybe i can do smth. in linux with my device ??? I'll appreciate any suggestions.
Yesterday I talked to representatives of service center and they told me that the problem is that internal memory is damaged and they cant flash the phone.
I took the phone and tried to flash it via Heimdall with brick fix pit.
After using this pit file, the phone was flashed normally and even turned on normally.
But in the phone info menu I saw no any data about internal memory. (It was damaged and required format). I tried format through phone menu and it did nothing.
I decided to flash the phone via Odin with normal 16 GB pit file and had a bad luck. I experienced freez during repartition. After this, phone is a complete brick.
When I connect it to PC without battery pressing vol down and rower buttons it connects as unknown device but there is nothing on the phone display. No recavery no download mode. Nothing - just reflection of my frustrated face).
Currently i'm tring to make a Jtag, maybe it'll put it in the download mode, but hope is dying....
I've herad somewhere that it is possible to put it in the download mode in linux. If somone did this, could you please give me the contact of this person?
I have been running on Cooks I777UCMD8 rom for about 2 months now and have had multiple powering issues. Have tried all the basic trouble shooting, not sure if its the Rom causing the issues or the AJK noswap Kernel, but nothing has been tweaked, running as is. The booting issue is when connecting a USB cable while the phone is powered off, if you try to turn the phone on while the USB cable is still attached you get a POWER RESET OR UNKNOWN UPLOAD MODE error message, only way to avoid it is to remove the usb cable and hold power button then it powers up normally.
now the problem with the USB cable, and i feel these two are possibly related, my phone no longer recognizes when its attached to a computer usb hub, it charges, but dose not enter into mass storage mode, nor does the computer recognize that the phone is attached, i have tried on multiple computers with same results, and yes all drivers are downloaded on computers. Further information; Before this problem began accruing, I would get error messages after attaching the phone to a pc VIA usb cable saying ( ONE OF THE USB DEVICES ATTACHED TO THIS COMPUTER HAVE MALFUNCTIONED, AND WINDOWS DOES NOT RECOGNIZE IT ) also, after plugging in the usb cable and windows attempted to download the drivers this error also appeared ( DEVICE SOFTWARE WAS NOT SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED, CONSULT WITH YOUR DEVICE MANUFACTURER FOR ASSISTANCE ) it later resolved itself for a short time ( couple days ) but now when i connect the phone, nothing happens... i'm hoping somebody has had similar USB problems after flashing a new rom and knows whats going on.
additional information:
- i have two Galaxy S2 phones both running cooks-i777ucmd8 rom and both phones have had the exact same issues.
- previous problems also include boot looping, and frozen lock screen upon powering up the phone. has not happen in a while.
Hello, I have issues connecting my S3 international model (i9300) to any PC. It has CM11 since at least 6+ months and it worked just fine and connected to my PC two days ago just fine.
Some days ago, it started bootlooping because of the common power button stuck problem [turned on by itself when battery inserted, and rebooted in the Samsung logo, which doesn't even let you go to DOWNLOAD mode or Recovery because it just reboots after a few seconds]
Yesterday I disassembled it following fixit guides and youtube step by step guides to make sure I didn't break anything. I saw the button problem was internal (the button apparently works fine, but internally it has a closed circuit so it seems as pressed). I assembled my phone again and went to bed. Today it was working without bootloop. I saw this as an opportunity to make all the required backups just in case it went to bootloop again but I couldn't get anything from it. Windows doesn't recognize it at all, not even during boot. Here is what I tried:
*Tried in several PCs/Notebooks/OS with different cables that work with other phones
*In all cases it charges the battery, but the PC doesn't see it as a device.
*I rebooted the phone by software (so I don't press the power button at risk of getting bootloop again) going to terminal emulator and using 'reboot' command.
*Rebooting the phone connected to the PCs doesn't either cause any device to be detected by the PC during the booting of the phone.
*Thinking it might be the port of my phone, I tried an OTG adaptor and several pendrives. They all were detected by the phone and I was able to write and read the USB drives.

At first I suspected I left a ribbon/flex cable not connected to the board, but being able to use OTG USB drives and being able to charge it didn't convince me it was the case. I want to avoid disassembling it without knowing first which ribbon to look at and any other test/information you could tell me to provide in order to find the solution.
