When flashing a custom kernel on Aosp/los based roms (other than kernels that don't edit the ramdisk) I always endup with the phone freezing up once booted. I've dirty flashed rom before flashing the custom kernel but no joy. My method is flash kernel - DFE zip by zackptg - then reboot. Anyone know what's going on?
Edit. Turns out there's alot of broken kernels being released so I'm in a pickle

Is the boot.img that needs to be flashed from rom to rom different? If it is not, does it need to be flashed bevery time a different rom is loaded or just once? I have installed about 3 different roms each requiring boot.img due to S-on and am curious if each is specific to their respective rom's
When switching roms use the boot.img that came with it. After booting into the new Rom then you can go back and install another kernel. If you're moving from one version of a Rom to another you usually don't need to flash a new kernel.
I have rooted my s2 I9100g. nothing more. I have temp_cwm.zip. Can i flash roms OR flashing blazing_safe kernel is necessary.
Yea you can flash kernel and rom with temporary cwm. But I advice you to flash kernel with permanent recovery and then flash rom.
Hello,
A month ago I flashed Arter97 kernel on my GS3 with JustArchi's CM12.1 Unofficial (Android 5.1.1) and I was experiencing no issues, until I flashed a new custom ROM.
The device began bootlooping at every custom kernel/ROM I install and it can only be fixed by flashing the Arter97 kernel itself, but I want to switch to the Boeffla kernel instead because of performance issues I'm having.
It also can't seem to mount the preload partition in the recovery, not sure if it has to do with anything.
Is there anyway to fix this?
I'm running the Blekota S5 Lite V12 (Android 4.4.2) custom ROM with Arter97 kernel installed.
I've already tried this:
Full wipe in TWRP.
Using CWM to flash another kernel/ROM (I normally use TWRP 2.8.6.1)
Restoring the stock TouchWiz ROM using Nandroid Backup and a full wipe afterwards than installed a custom ROM.
Flashing Boeffla kernel in TWRP and CWM.
I fixed it by flashing stock TouchWiz 4.3 ROM using Odin and flashing CM12.1 afterwards
You have to go back to stock rom via odin.
I wish I stole my HTC M9.
When I flash only N ROM + Gapps, everything's going normal. But when I flash custom kernel (radon, agni, assassinx), my phone always ended bootloop. Is there something wrong? I'm using Psy_Man's firmware & Official TWRP 3.0.2-2 anyway.
Anyone? Please?

Recently I've installed Oreo AOSP, I wanted to return flashing from TWRP but stucks on bootanimation, I tried with XGen but the problem persists
Also I tried through flashhtool but the program it doesn't detect my phone, also I tried with Emma, the process was completed correctly but when I boot up the phone the custom ROM is there
Im going to try flashing the Loire kernel through TWRP, at least I want to move to LineageOS
Flash a stock based custom rom (XGEN or Persian Rom) - dirty or clean /system is your choice. If you want extra then flash the clean patched kernel in the rooting thread (we actually don't need this)
Note that the phone won't boot properly and will bootloop, but now the phone will be recognize as F5121/22 in flashtool so you can flash the rom as normal.
