Maybe this is just a Nova launcher thing but it's not happening to me on other devices with Nova launcher installed.
When I click on any icon, it moves to the centre of the screen in a pretty bad animation before launching the associated app. Anyone know how to switch this off?
https://youtu.be/ruJsoCvlHR0
EDIT: Found it. Look and feel, app animation. Lol, that was easy. Don't know how i missed it or how it got turned on
It is the new Android 9 animation that included Nova in its latest update which by the way is pretty ugly and far from what is the animation of the Pixel and Android One, the closing animation also happens to me and is solved by restarting the device

Has anyone noticed their homescreen has gone laggy when moving from screen to screen?
I like the default launcher, so I'm in no position to change it, but it's developed alot of lag since I first bought it exactly a week ago today.
Only plays up on the default launcher.
had mine over a month, and I find it to be the fastest android tablet in terms of switching screens...very smooth experience over here so far.
Thanks for the response - I wonder if a data reset would do the trick.
agreed that it is one of smoothest tablets on the market. I sometimes experience lag if I have a live wallpaper active. perhaps getting a task killer with a widget on the home screen could help quickly kill anything running in the background that could be the culprit of the lag.
Everything is running smoothly except the home screen and I don't really want to have to do a reset.... hmm
Have you loaded up your screens with tons of shortcuts? If I remember correctly it made my homescreen animations jerky but I then switched to Launcher Ex.

theres nothing on my homescreens lol
I agree with the OP, the launcher's performance is sub-par. I don't have any live wallpapers, or hardly any icons, no widgets, and I can see it's not perfectly smooth. I installed ADW Launcher which is clearly significantly faster and what I would consider perfectly smooth and fluid. Anyone that thinks their launcher isn't choppy probably just needs to compare against a trial install of ADW.
I like the look of the default launcher though lol
I find this very strange that people are experiencing this lag. I am using the default launcher, a few incons on main screen, and at least one widget on every other screen, some 2 or 3 widgets, and still super smooth... way better than samsung tablets, asus, motorola, etc....
Should I do a reset in the short term?
Here is another launcher for ICS. It is like stock launcher but have options like adw and launcher pro ie transparent app drawer, gestures, lock desktop etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452663
I'm definitely gonna try this out. Not sure how much experience yyouve had with this but installing as system app shouldnt remove the default launcher your rom comes with? ie most ICS roms come with trebuchet launcher?
No, it installs as normal app and you don't need to move it to /system folder for widgets to show up in app drawer.
good find on this launcher, it feels alot like launcher pro but totally revamped for ics
just needs resizable widgets

I cant believe i missed that, thanks for the heads up, this is quite an awesome launcher i dont think i can go back to anything that doesnt use ics as a base any more
what do you prefer, this or NOVA?
personally on my galaxy nexus i prefer nova..but only because it's more mature.apex is a month newer, but with already a lot of features..nova,at this time, have more features, but i find apex more speedy and i hadn't got any issues or unstability also on gpu-renderized
works great in ICS passion v 12
Guys and girls, just a heads up - updating Apex Launcher is apparently resulting in Force Close dialog ad nauseam - DO NOT update Apex for now or else you'll be stuck. Thankfully I had Avast installed and using the Avast Application Manager I managed to access Apex's App Info page and uninstalled updates, now back to normal but won't update it for now. Recent Apex reviews on Play Store show that this is not ROM-related or an isolated event. You've been warned. (If you read this that is)...

Last night my phone auto updated the apex launcher and exactly what you said happened. I went into clockwork recovery and tried to restore and it gave an error and now the phone seems bricked. It won't boot up beyond the vibrant screen, and it won't let me get into recovery. What should I do?

Does anyone use Google Now Launcher with this phone? If so has anyone noticed if it borks the HTC camera, taking away most of its features?
Noticed that right after installing the google launcher, cam was missing a lot of features. But i think you have to restart the phone after installation. Then all features appears. I Like the launcher or Nova etc... But hate the fact you can't have stock google lockscreen too. Sense lock screen with Google launcher does not look good.

Someone on youtube posted the same issue. What you have to do to fix is remove the camera from the homescreen and replace it with the camera icon in the app drawer. For some reason that fixes it.
In playing with the G4 over the past few weeks, I've discovered some interesting things about launcher performance, so I thought I would share.
After using Google Now Launcher for several days, I began to notice that it was sometimes dropping frames and stuttering a bit much for my liking when swiping between screens. I switched back to the stock LG Home launcher and amazingly, scrolling was almost perfectly smooth with hardly any dropped frames.
Curious as to why this was, I began testing various launchers... Nova, Action Launcher, Apex Launcher, L Launcher, an AOSP launcher3 build from KitKat, etc. Finally, I noticed a pattern. Launchers based on the KitKat AOSP launcher source all ran very smoothly, while launchers based on the Lollipop AOSP launcher source all dropped frames too often when scrolling around the home screens and app drawers.
So from this, we can deduce two things:
1) The stock LG Home launcher is based on KitKat or earlier AOSP launcher source code. No surprise there.... just look at the page indicator dots, the app drawer background, and the three dot menu style in the app drawer. They all have KitKat styling.
2) LG optimized the G4 to run KitKat based launchers more smoothly since that's what their own launcher is.
So what can we do about it? Well, use an old version of your favorite launcher, of course. Action Launcher 2 is still available in the Play Store and has its own listing. I went with an old version of Nova (Classic v3.3 from http://novalauncher.com) and find it performs more smoothly than the newly released Nova v4. And not to fear, Nova v3.3 can still be configured to look and act like a Lollipop based launcher by changing a few settings. See my screenshots of Nova v3.3 below to see for yourself.
Hope all of you who are driven crazy by the slightest stutters find this information helpful. Let me know about your experiences.
Thanks for this. Will give it a try.
I was surviving with the stock launcher but went crazy after installing the tempered glass protector. After removing the glass all of my swipes or scrolls were being registered as taps.

I too have been trying out the top 10 most know launchers in the playstore and have seen that issue as well compared to the stock launcher. What makes me go back to the stock launcher is two things. Health widget for step counter, and the smart notice widget.

I know me too. How nice will be to add those into nova.
I'll be honest, I am running the latest Nova launcher and I haven't noticed any dropped frames or hiccups whatsoever. Everything seems buttery smooth.

apex is the smoothest launcher at the moment. nova ( i have the paid version ) is not that smooth like action launcher 3,
i'm only running apex for now
The app drawer and everything runs better , try and see yourself , you'll be impressed.
Great discovery. Nova and Google Now was always my go-to launcher but I have noticed frame drops. Very minimal, but I guess some of us are cursed to notice these things.
I always end up reverting to the stock launcher after awhile. I'll try the suggestion above and give Apex a run for a few days.
Also, anyone find it weird that some widgets like the default clock widget can't be used with other launchers?

Not weird at all, LG based widgets are baked into the LG launcher. Same thing happens with Samsung based widgets, can only use them on the TW launcher.
I'm using stock LG's launcher and it works very nice for me. I disabled Smart Bulletin option from settings and the launcher flies. With this feature enabled the launcher was getting laggy after a few hours of use ,now it's just perfect.
The only thing that drives me crazy about the Stock launcher is the lack of backgrounds for the icons. I like all my icons to feel somewhat uniform. I know the LG Launcher supports themes (basically icon packs)... but the Verizon model has this ripped out. I know it is accessible through some song and dance but the icon packs were pretty bare, only like 20 icons to cover the basics. Some custom packs have more but still barely cover the grand scheme of play store apps.
Overall good find though. I actually really like Action launcher 2 and run it on my tablets but I am unsure about on a smaller device I intend to use with 1 hand. I know you can setup swipes to pull open the drawer. At least we have options. I wonder if this happens on other devices, or just LG?
Very interesting to see that Lollipop based launchers stagger. Although KitKat was the best Android experience I ever had. Lollipop is fun but on the LG (or other skinned devices) the change is miniscule. KitKat ran like a beast on the G2 but started having problems when it upgraded to Lollipop.
I use KISS Launcher. No framerate loss there.
Anyone noticing a delay going back to the home screen in Nova launcher 7.0.57 on this device?
Currently on 12. 5. 6 but this is happening even before on previous ROMs. Now it seems a little bit worse anywhere from 3 to 5 seconds until the home screen loads.
That's an eternity for an Android. Sort it out.
If you're using any kind of power management, try disabling it.
A buggy launcher can boot loop an Android really well
System instability is often the only warning, if any, you will get.
Nova Launcher uses more resources but never saw that kind of lockup with it.

Using Nova paid for version on MMX MIUI and not having any lag. Just have this for cold boot. After that it is fine. On 12.5.6.0 EEA

Would having certain widgets effect the loading time of the homescreen? Even the 2 rows of apps I've created delay from loading.

Anything is possible, wysiwyg.
Something is not optimized or fully compatible it seems.
Nova was slightly slower then my Samsung's native One UI launcher but not terribly so.
I went with the native launcher because of better features, fast response time and better battery life.
So annoying and tried to just remove widgets and reset nova, always a small delay.
Ended up installing Nova 6, previous version and it loads fast barely any delay going to the home screen. Only thing I miss about the new Nova 7 is the extra customizations such as swipe down to launch another app on each application
