Text editor - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm looking for an Android txt editor.
I need when I try to open a txt file on a Solid Explorer (its built-in text editor is very buggy, mostly with big files), it ask me to open with this editor; I tried many apps, but most of them doesn't appear on this menu, or it have a history feature (I hate it, because I think it's against privacy).
I'd like if it has a material GUI, and fast-scrolling.
Can someone suggest me?

X-plore is a nice tool/app

But it's a file manager, I'm looking for a standalone app, also because, as I already said in my previous post, I use Solid Explorer and I think it's useless to have a redundant app…

X-plore has text editor as well.
It's a good tool.
Type in play store text editor and test few for yourself

I tried many apps, I ask here for some apps little knowed, maybe that there isn't in the Play Store.
For example, I searched on F-Droid and I found TEdit, but it has an ugly UX and no fast-scrolling, but it's closest on what I search.

Thanks for reply, but now I use Moon Writer, that for me has only two lacks:
text search is case-sensitive only
and can't switch off auto-saving.
For the rest it has all I need:
I can choose it when I open a file in my file manager app (Solid Explorer);
When I open a file from another app, it doesn't appear in Recents list;
It has a text search feature;
It can make, edit and read txt files;
It's free;
It's available on Play Store , so I can update it without any annoyance;
It has a nice UI.

Location triggers - Smart actions

I seem to have a problem with the Smart actions app - there's no location triggers to choose from and I don't see how you can add them manually either...
When I try to add a location trigger, I get a blank list with the text "Not any meaningful locations to display". Any thoughts on this?

Right... I dont see a green plus so there must be something wrong with my version of the app.
Do you think you could help me out and upload your .apk of Smart actions? Would be much appreciated!
After a fair bit of detective work, I found that I was actually missing the "SocialLocations.apk" app which creates location triggers... weird.
I pulled it from a /system dump on xda and problem solved!
many people have the same problem with smart actions location trigger: could you please upload the file so everybody who needs it can download? thanks

Could smb upload the latest version of Sociallocation.apk?
In my case, out thinks I am on two places at once. The places are miles apart. Anyone else have this issue? Solution?

Finally, restored social location from official ICS backup via AppExtractor. But still no "+" sign...
Yes I did. In the location setting for the specific rule it will show all your saved locations and moat likely they are all checked. Make sure only the location pertaining to the specific rule is checked and that should fix the issue

In which directory are downloaded apps stored?

I'm looking to find the directory where apps go when they are downloaded. I have ES File Explorer.
Do you mean apps downloaded and installed from the market? If so, generally the .apk files go to data/app.

Looked all through my SD card and did not find what I was looking for (I don't have a /sdcard/Download directory BTW). I'm looking for the ATVAndroidClient Amazon Video apk, because I saw one post where the user got it to successfully install when selected directly from its directory location. I too am having trouble getting it to install when I just select it from the popup window after it's dl'd.
The directory structure is pretty annoying on this (and I guess android). I find multiple (3,4,5+) locations for downloads (and books, media, etc). Each browser puts it somewhere else, etc usually without asking. Anyway, easiest thing to do is to do a search with a file manager (root explorer, file expert) to find where you downloaded something.
It is in /cache as downloadfile.apk

Hacking android games- on PC [Q]

Hello, basically I am wondering what is the best program to edit .DAT files ( the typ of file that is [mostly] used by android-game dev's to save stored data of the game )
and edit them,
also i was wondering what if I can't find the game/app map when connected to USB?
> I want to do it on the PC because I have the one X and are NOT going to root it.
Regards!
In order to access those files and write on them (edit them), you need root.

Please read again, I can access them through my computer easily, in fact I have them open now on HxD editor, but I need a good program to edit these .DAT files with.
Then you need to push those files to the phone, which requires root

An app cannot write there under normal circumstances.. For writing there you need root, but games doesn' store their savegames there.
Let me put it differently.. if an app doesn't ask for root, all files it creates can be accessed by adb.

This is why non rooted phones cannot cheat on games, they cannot access the files there.
When you go into app settings and look under each app, there is a section that says data....x MB. And you can clear data. That data is stored under /data/data

Check again. All user installed apps have folders there with some associated data. Some games don't have their savegames there, others do.

Indeed, and the games I'm wondering about do have the save game in the folder, simply access-able when I connect my phone (One x) to the PC.
Any how, how could I open these files, with what program?

The save games' files are usually XML files. You should be able to simply use notepad (or any other text/word associated software) to edit them.

Hex editor, and messing around to see what each adress does. Every game dev uses their own liba and stuff, there is no universal program to edit those files.
Its like writting your own secret code inside a book, someone else might open it, but go figure out how to interpret each line.

It sure is. Hell, there even is a forum wide XDA announcement about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=530
You might try enabling USB debugging... Found under developer options. This is in all Android devices enabling varies by release. Try checking out Setting - About Android - build version click that 7 times and it should enable it in main settings. It has already been said you really should root. This is usually the first step to getting root. I know nothing about HTC, but chainfire root has worked for me many times, from Sony, Moto and Samsung. Google your make and model + root +xda dev.
I myself have used Hex Editor, but it looks like garbage to me. Good luck and please give an update if you find a template or app
Interesting. I'm trying to hack my own game. Hope I can, because it obviously is possible...lol.
Hacking HTC devices is hard as hell, i have htc one and i can tell
The root needs clock work mode
And this CWM needs bootloader and the bootloader needs hellava time and experience
I just dont have time to do all that sh1t, isnt there an easier way to root stupid htc's, or at least to hack games on pc
Or hack the games without rooting
And dont tell me to use lucky patcher because its bullsh1t
Thx for reading

Need help with dropbox camera upload.

I am looking for 3 things.
1. Is there a way to disable video uploading? I only want to back up photos.
2. Is there a way to force dropbox to only upload when connected to a charger? I find the lack of this option in the app to be ridiculous really. I thought dropbox would be a fairly mature app by now.
3. How can I disable the uploading of the screenshot folder? I really have no need to back up these and it just clutters the camera upload folder.
I am rooted so if there is any root way to do it then do tell me. And if there is some other service that can provide me with all these features then do tell as well.
Thanks.
The first two can't really be solved, unless dropbox adds that functionality. For the third one you could try adding .nomedia file to screenshots folder and see what dropbox does about it. .nomedia file hides particular folder from being searchable by android aps like gallery and music, so it might work for dropbox too. Worth a try. You still would be able to access screenshots through file manager

Create an icon of the app you want the icon to be changed, or find a bigger icon on the net. Decompile the apk, find the icon inside the apk. Change it with your new icon. Compile the apk. Sign it. Put it into your kindle, install and enjoy!

Just bumped over this topic.
As there are still lots of people buying Fires around, maybe topic is not outdated for all - thus there is a solution.
APK Icon Editor freeware, open source tool to modify Android app icon.
Very easy to use in fact.
Just need to install Icon Editor on your PC, open and replace APK icon and repack it back and sideload to KF HDX (should work for other KF as well).
From dozens of apps just few of them may not work - f.e. if you repack Toshl, it gives error while loading (can't connect to server), the same with Dolphin Browser... Thus my advice is BEFORE you install modified APK, backup original one.
Anyways in my case only this 2 apps refuse to work after modification. All others (including Chrome, Firefox, alternative markets like Mobogenie or 1Mobile, MxPlayer or Dice Player.... etc. etc. all work just fine.
And yes - NO ROOT required.
