RN3 (kenzo) not charging, help! - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

I plugged my kenzo into a Mi power bank 2i, 10000 mAh version. It charged for 5 seconds, then stopped charging the battery was at 0%, so I tried rebooting the phone to maybe resolve the charging problem. Now it does not charge from any charger/outlet. I've tried two-three different ones, excluding a laptop and a pc. This phone is my daily driver and I need urgent help. Thanks!
UPDATE
I kept it plugged in for a while in my pc and now a red led blinks whenever I press the power button. What to do?!

Kenzo should be charged strictly below 10w.
Which is 5v x 2A = 10w
If ur powerbank has higher capacity than this like 15w or 18 w. Then kenzo will try to draw more power from powerbank. and zener diode will heat . this will short circuit the charging board diode.
I think ur charging board diode is blown which is common problem. It gets blown to protect the device from high voltage or current.
Just open kenzo cover.
Take very tiny flat screwdriver.
Remove charging board.
And careful scratch and remove burnt diode on charging board.
Without damaging anything else in surrounding.
And put the board back. It will start charging
And never ever use mi bank for kenzo. Only use stock 5V 2A charger.

I have posted pic of zener diode location.
Dont remove zener diode from mainboard.
Only remove diode from charging board.

In my case i had to remove the one from the mother board too. Some months later (charging only on 5V charger) the phone died anyway, started with the red light issue until it didnt boot anymore.

hi bro. im using xiaomi quick charger 2.5A~5v, 2~9, 1.5~12, since 1 month ago.
amperage is 2100 and temperature is up to 45 centigrade that shown by Ampere app, while charging.
do you think the issue that you are saying will be happen to my phone eventually?
the icon of quick charge(spark rounded by circle) appears on statusbar and the led is twinkling, so i guess the phone is compatible with the charger.
kenzo 3gb
xiaomi.eu rom
agni kernel 12.3

This phone has firmware bug. Hardware is limited to 5V, but Xiaomi made a mistake in firmware (not in the ROM) and enabled charging at 9V and 12V. So if you charge with QC , V is not limited to 5V by firmware and Zener diode on charging port or/and motherboard blows away, and You will have charging problem.

Just use a miniUSB cable and plug it into your computer. Any USB wall charger should work. I've used iPhone USB chragers with a miniUSB cable, Nikon camera chargers, as well as a Motorola one. You just need to plug it into any USB port either on a wall or on your computer. Leave the device off while it charges overnight.
Problem with charged
I use both ways but no result , phone indicates to charged but battery not charging.Charger is original and consists of two parts: the charger and mini usb cable .When i run it sometimes on the displays show this message : The charging current is not enough for device power consumption. Please shut down unused applications , or switch to AC adapter. And I do not use any applications. I tried to load phone in the off position , indicates that the charger is ON but the battery is not charging .Please help if someone has the same problem

Try it with a different miniUSB cable. If you don't have one handy, miniUSB cables go for pennies on Amazon or eBay. You can find them in retail stores for about 10 dollars or so as well. If the cable isn't the problem, then it is either a problem with the charge port on the device, or the battery. It's far cheaper to trouble shoot the cable, so let's just start with that.
Sound like the charger is insufficient power, even though it says 1A. Try charging from a computer USB port and see if it charges. HTC don't list TP2 as suitable for this charger.
I am also facing same problem. LED shows charging but phone does not charge. And when I insert charger "USB TO PC" page shows up, Like I have connected the phone to PC.
Please Help...
I just had an issue charging which turned out to be an easy fix.
The led would come on and the icon would show charging but it wasn't increasing the battery %. Then I would get a message about the power not being enough and to plug it into a charger. I tried several chargers and was getting the same thing happening. I blew a few puffs into the charging port which looked clean and it was still happening. I wiggled the cable/plug in the port and occassionally the charging light would go on and off. The charging led even started to go on and off with the phone just sitting still on my table. I feared that my charging port had gone bad so I ordered 2 spare batteries and battery charger from ebay for $10 (works well and battery life good).
While waiting for the ebay purchase to arrive I did some reading up and saw that pins could be bent etc. In my fustration I used a pair of tweezers to gently scrape the charging port pins/contacts (in a straight direction). Then I used an old toothbrush and firmly brushed out the usb port - a whole bunch of lint and stuff come out of the port even though it had previously looked clean.
I plugged in my charger and bingo! My charging issue was gone.

That was the biggest problem with MiniUSB was the width and height of those ports. It's a haven for stray dust and dirt. They need to be brushed out every so often, especially when you just drop it in you pocket.
hi buy and it schould work
buy a new charging cable

I was facing the same charging problem and was looking for a solution. And i found this forum and read it and did the same thing and my problem is fix.. I can charge my mobile now. Thanks a lot for the great help.
Sarchy Minimum
All of these dumb charges, ie bricks in the wall, use the unused USB pins to communicate how much power they can provide. There are some resistors they put on the D-/D+ to say this is a 700ma charger or whatever. Trouble is that there are limited standards on these resistors so it's more than possible that a phone will charge but not enter high current charging when attached to a new brick in the wall. The cables however are more universal.

Reasons for battery icon flashing/blinking while charging

Donno if its the regular case of 'bad usb port'. It's happening only when I'm charging with specific car charger (1A, output 5V) sometimes its charging fine, sometimes I notice its stop charge and the icon of battery is blinking/flashing...
I've tried to clean the usb cable and port from dust, maybe the cable got some dust into it?
Also I've notice that the temperature of device goes down to 22°C when its happening...
At any other chargers (include othe car chargers and other wall chargers) there is no problem at all...
What could be the reason of this specific car charger (it used to work without any problem the last few months ago)?
High/Low voltage? Dust?
maybe other problem with my device? (Battery/something else)
BTW - when I plug the charger out when its happening its stop blinking.
could you please give us a screenshot?
Do the blow thing
Sent from the little guy
From reading your post, it only happens with that one charger....any other charger works as expected?
That being the case.....it ain't your phone or the USB port/board in the phone.....
Chargers DO fail, and from my experience, dc to dc step down transformers and circuitry (the type in your car charger) have a higher failure rate than their ac to dc (mains) equivalents. ....
Time to buy a new car charger methinks

@wishmas7er - which screenshot mate? when its happens all I see is blinking/flashing battery icon, without any other message or something else about it.
@keithross39 - correctly mate, all other charger (any kind of them) works just fine.
Yeah seems like its the car charger problem, just first time i've notice it...
Thanks!
BTW - the reason of 'bad touch' while charging with some generic chargers is because higher amperage then should be to this device's battery? or other reason?
As long as the amperage is not ludicrously high or low, the only noticeable difference would be the charge time.....other than that there should be no noticable effect....

Battery Icon Flashing with Samsung Galaxy S4 Car Charger
I had the same problem charging my Galaxy S4 in the car. AC charging works fine but when plugged into the DC car charger the battery indicator icon flashed rather than showing the lightning bolt.
I purchased a higher voltage DC charger adapter, same symptom.
Finally I swapped out the USB-to-micro cable and now it works fine. I suspect that in the car the phone gets jarred over time and it wears down the micro-USB connector.
It's not just you fella........
The micro USB socket idea is (imo) a pathetically fragile arrangement for what the manufacturers intend it to do. I've repaired two phones with worn out sockets, and judging by what I am reading on XDA, it is an issue that is getting more and more common.........

I have same problem with my nexus 4.
After some googling I came across an app called Ampere.
This app tells you how much rate of current your battery is charging at.
So what i found is that when phone gets old the battery doesnt hold up charge as before. So the charge rate becomes slow. The nexus charger is rated at 1Amp and at the time of charging is able to provide low current than the rate at which the battery is draining. So the Android gets confused between charging and discharging.
For eg: if phone is charging at 300mA and draining at 350mA.
Also the battery draining rate is constantly changing. So when its greater than charging rate phone shows discharging and if less : charging...
Fix: There are three fixes which i can think ...
1) Get a higher Amp rated charger...
2) while charging close most of apps , dont play games , switch to a lower gen network like 2g , close wifi , close data which will reduce the discharge rate of the battery.
3) Get a new battery.
So I'm experiencing the almost the same blinking problem with my note 4. Each time the lightning icon blinks the phone vibrates in sync with it. It won't come on it won't reboot I've tried everything BUT replace the battery because if I plug it up it'll vibrate and blink but nothing else works. It's completely black when it's unplugged.

[Q] Battery pins

Heyyyy guys, it's been a while now since my one x+ died on me...
Some part on the motherboard probably got fried as it won't charge.
Can anyone tell me what the pins of the battery are, like what's the positive and negative pole?
There are 6 pins, 2 red, 1 white, 1 green and 2 black.
Which one can I use to charge the battery and on the phone, what pins should I use to get the current flowing through the phone?
I know it's just the charging circuit as it powers up when the battery is charged, and no it doesn't smoke or get any warm at all when I plug it in, thus, there definitely is a defect.
I just want to use this phone like on my desk or something because I can't sell it at this state anyway and the phone I use atm is an s3 mini
Hi
Unfortunately I haven't the answer to your question, but tomorrow or friday i'll give my HOX battery to a my colleague that is an electrical engeneer to check the real capacity of battery...and i'll try to give you an answer.
I think that the general rules "RED is POSITIVE" and "BLACK is NEGATIVE" is always valid, but maybe the two red wires have a different voltage....
However i'll let you know soon.
Could you do me a favor? I need a photo of HOX+ battery! Could you take a photo of your and reply to my post here?? http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-x2/help/hox-battery-replacement-photo-t3026505

Sure! I'll upload it once I'm home.
And I don't seem to be able to hook up my voltmeter to measure the voltage of the battery since the pins are a little... Well... Too small, obviously
And I found out one of the red pins on the phone side don't make the 'beep' sound when hooked up to my multimeter, when touching the GND...
I confirm that you can charge the battery using the either of two red wires (that are POSITIVE pole) and either of two black wires (that are NEGATIVE pole)...They have the same voltage (3.8v but it depends by the charge of battery...it can vary from about 2.75v at 0% and about 4.1v at 100%)
The other two wires (green and white) are probably the internal temperature sensor.
The problem is that if you want to manually charge the battery with a "standard" phone charger you have to calculate the charging time!!!
Because without the charging circuit board integrated in the phone there aren't any overvoltage and overcharge controls on the battery and it will be damaged if you charge it too much!!! (With risk of FIRE and EXPLOSION of the battery!!!)
I suggest you to buy a "smart" 3.7v Li-ion battery charger to manually charge your battery...it's a really cheap accessories and it's the safety and easy way to charge li-ion batteries.

Thanks, and yeah, I aknowledge the consequences when it's done wrong.
That's why I asked, and I do have a "smart" charger, you let the pins of it touch the battery's charging pins and it stops charging when full. It should be around 3.7V, gotta check that later.

RN3 Pro not charging, charging board replaced-Motherboard issue?

Hey everyone!!
I am glad to have been part of this RN3 community (which I hope to continue being part of it).
I have an issue, some days ago I was charging the phone and it suddenly stopped charging. I was using a QC3.0 Aukey charger although current was about 700/800 mA, slow charging in fact.
I checked on other plugs and still didn't charge. Also, I had just used a Power Bank for my tablet some minutes ago, 3/4 bars were left, when I plugged my phone in, 0 bars were shown, then it didn't charge. I unplugged it and replug my tablet, it charged, I connected my phone back and none was charging then. I realised my phone had an issue.
I plugged it on my PC and it showed and error message, one device connected to the USB port was using more current than the USB Por can give. This probably meant my phone had a short-circuit
I decided to replace my charging board and put the original one (it was replaced at service center), which still worked.
I disconnected the battery and the PC kept on showing same error message. Then, the issue looked to be on the motherboard. A expensive repairing.
Yesterday I found this post: http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=744282
It says that deleting or replacing this safety diode of the motherboard should fix the issue and phone should charge again as usual.

my phone first problem in battery. After replace in 3 days, think my charging board problem. before that i can charge around 900-1000ma but suddenly down to 40-680ma that not charging the battery but drain the battery. Solution: buy the new one.
seems like the board has short circuits. try to find it and repair

Hey man!!
Thank u so much!
I fixed my phone! It is charging perfectly!
In fact, I didn't think I was going to be able to fix it. I already bought a OnePlus 5 case because I was buying it today (also, I wasn't able to buy the OnePlus 5 on Wednesday 13 (I didn't see this post), but the coupon didn't work, lol.
Thanks and regards!
First i think that charginboard not working. Looking for right USB charginboard(SE/ kate) few month but not found. Diode removing fix charging issue but PC not recognize my phone anymore. This diode is probably necessary for USB connection so can anybody how to find replacement part?
txs bro DonYayo just broken with flat screw... thats work...
once i was having this problem too after trying Quick chargers. connecting to wall chargers, changing charging board, connecting to laptops doesn't get my phone charged. it shows the same overcurrent error. I tried connecting my phone to DESKTOP pc, and somehow it's able to recharge the phone. I'm not sure why it works, maybe someone can explain, but this maybe a solution for those having the same problem
QC3.0 has adaptable voltage, 5v 9v 12v 15v depending on the model. you burned the zener diode, the zener diode is to stabilize the voltage at 5v, more power makes a short circuit in them, when you cut the zener, you eliminated the short circuit but you also eliminated the voltage stabilizer, be careful with the charger that you use in the future since you have no more voltage stabilization.
Note 3 of Redmi has two zeners, one on the charging board and the other on the motherboard. One or both of them can get burned when using QC chargers, use the official 5v - 2A charger.

Guys many many thanks for this thread. U saved my kenzo. I used to use this stupid Qc3 charger and burnt this diode. I had no idea earlier and went to service center. Even after repair and i used to use this qc3 charger.
This thread saved my kenzo. I did same thing and destroyed that diode . And my device is alive again.
I will never use qc3 again.
Many thanks again.
I know the mainboard diode.
But Can anyone show me the location of 2nd diode of charging board?
I found this safety diode location on charging board from miui forum.
Thanks Bro

Diode protects u from high voltage and current. If u using without diode then only use standard 5v 2A charger to keep device safe. And don't use QC charger.

If charging board diode u removed then u can buy from aliexpress and open ur device and replace new board by urself. Only small screwdriver is needed. No service center needed.
If u removed diode of mainboard then yes u need to go to service center. I m not sure they will replace diode or motherboard coz its very compact board. Dont know whether they will do soldering to such a small board. But they will charge u.
If u were using QC 2 or Qc3 charger before then dont use it. Just use stock charger.

Any technician that's experimented in replacing SMD components with hot air guns should be able to do it.
I got one of those stations, but forgot to get the flux. still watiign for it lol.
redmi note 3 not charging again..
Hi everyone, I have damaged the Zener diode using a screwdriver and my device worked for next 15 days, but again my phone is not charging as I have connected it from Xiaomi power bank by mistake. Can anybody tell me that how can I repair it now? any kind of help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks. Crushed that diode and it is charging again.

Voltage drops during charging / slow charging

I am facing slow charging issues with QC 3.0 even after flashing Kernel (Radon Rebuild 6.3). I selected 2400 ma quick but even after that I get like 300~400 ma even lower then my stock which gives like 500~600 ma the thing I have noticed that when I plug my QC charger I get around 2000~1500 ma (voltage 4.0+) for like a min then it eventually falls to 300 with voltage around 3.6 v and never spikes up again
Should I replace my charging board or just my device is getting old?
Rom : Havoc
Device : Kenzo 3/32
Kernel : Radon Rebuild
It can be a problem related to overheat of charging ic. It happens to me when i use stock charger. At 5v 2ah, phone heats up to 45 celsius degrees. If i use fast charger, at 9.1v and 1.6 ah the phone is cooler and keeps charging at fast speed almost all the time. Depends on ehat temperature i have in room or where i place the phone during charging.

But for me the temp.. Never rises up it just maintains 35~37 c
Ok. Your problems seems to be with thermal libs. When you flash radon kernel choose "OLD THERMAL LIBS" in installation screen. If problem remain same then try Latest Agni kernel (which has updated thermal libs) and see problem is still there.
And BTW, Just giving you one suggestion. Never use QC 3.0, It will burn your USB Board specially zener diode. That will end up yo to replace whole USB Board and if you are lucky then you might find perfect replacement from market otherwise there are so many cheap parts available that has poor performance.
P.S- I have burnt my board by using QC 2.0 charger and now new USB board giving me network issues (no network or very less internet speed now). And here you are using QC 3.0 that is more dangerous. Use latest Agni, devs added security against QC chargers and it use max 2100-2200 ma current. (Believe me this is sufficient to quick charge your device)

If you ever get short-circuit, The first thing will be your device will stop charging. Also signs of short-circuit are connecting and disconnecting your device frequently, Whatever kernel or charger you use it always charge at very low speed. (these what I felt before my diode completely died)

Dont use QC 3.0 . kenzo has some board issues. Qc2 or Qc3 is backward compatible but incase of kenzo Board is not completely safe to regulate safe current.
If u use qc2 or Qc 3 . it will draw too high current and burn the zener diode and stop the charging.
If ur device is not charging or taking low current then that means zener diode is already burnt. So remove the diode and use only stock charger. And dont use 2400 amp option in custom kernels.
My device stopped charging when i used qc3. I removed both the diode. but now its charging very slow.(around 150-200 amps), then it goes to 0 and does not charge. but it charges slowly upto 30% or so when the mobile is switched off. The discharge rate is normal as before. I tried using agni kernel and toggled the options between old kernel and new kernel libs and also the charging levels. can anyone suggest me about how to solve to solve this problem.

Why u removed both?
Only charging board diode needed to remove. After that dont use Qc3 to further harm mainboard diode.
But May be u kept on charging with QC3 even after both diode removed and damaged mainboard charging parts.
Try with many diffrent 2A usb cable. Stick with stock kernel. If still not charging then change pcb board.
