How to tell if the screen has been changed? - LG V30 Questions & Answers

I am looking at second hand offers for the V30 and found one locally with a very good price. Usually a low price hides something and I am thinking maybe it had the screen replaced at some point. Is it possible to check the screen in some way?

Pressure sensor might help. If it goes up while you press screen or body, it's a good phone. Pressure sensor usually tells the phone you've buy never disassembled before.
You can use lgmenu, or third party app for sensor monitoring

If the screen has been replaced, it's not bad either. If LG did it then the device is still water resistant.

[Q] Idea about new screen protector.

Hey everyone I just have a quick idea that I wanted to shoot around and see if you all think it is a good idea or not. We have all seen the privacy screen protectors that limit the viewing angle. But what about one that reverses that and actually increases the viewing angle. Possibly solve the only major flaw that I seen that the G Tab has.

Yup, something tells me screen manufacturers have already put a hefty amount of R&D into such a solution and come up empty handed.
remove the polarization filter from the lcd panel and replace (but the manufacturer would've already put the best possible filter for our lcd, stuff is cheap)... decided to somewhat resurrect this and make a PSA - you cannot just remove the polarizing layer and call it a day - you would need to replace it with a film capable of culminating the light and redirecting it in such a fashion that it still allows an image to be displayed proper.
however, the viewing angles of the lcd are what they are and the polarizing layer is created thusly... sort of dead in the water and why nobody pursued this

[Q] Change sensitivity of proximity sensor

Is there any way to change the sensitivity of the proximity sensor. It seems every screen protector I try makes the screen turn off when in a call even without anything near the sensor. I had to cut one of the screen protectors to get around it (but had messed up a corner when applying so I replaced it)
Or is there a way to completely disable it so I just have to hit the power button when in a call to manually turn the screen on or off.
+1
Dont have the same problem but would be helpful.
There is a distance setting in the build.prop file. You could try adjusting that and seeing if that helps.

Perfect. Changed the value (increased it from default of 60) and its working great now. Thanks for that tip.

Well after further testing seems that it didn't fix the problem. Seemed to work when I first made the changes but now the screen is stroll turning off and no matter what I change the value to I can't get the proximity sensor to work right.

According to the official Atrix manual -
http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles...s/StaticFiles/Atrix_US-EN_UG_68014798001B.pdf
Note: Your touchscreen might
stay dark if the sensor just
above it is covered. Don't use
covers or screen protectors (even clear ones) that
cover this sensor. To find Motorola accessories for
your phone, visit www.motorola.com/products.
Anyway, why do you guys keep using the screen protectors with this gorilla glass phones? I have carried Moto Milestone in my pocket for a year and D2G for 3 months and there are no scratches on them whatsoever.
I use them on every phone I get because although it is gorilla glass it can still get scratches under the right conditions and I for one do not want my $400+ phone to have a scratch on the screen. Never had a phone that had issues like this with screen protectors and the proximity sensor. Multiple iPhones, Dell streak, nexus one, droid, galaxy s. I've tried two different screen protectors with the atria and both have this issue.
I'm having issues with my proximity sensor too, but it seems that I can't make it turn off the screen when I'm talking. I'm not using any screen protector but I do have a case. It was working fine till a week ago but now I just have to block the phone every time I get a call.
The only difference is that I've installed 2 new games, maybe those are affecting the sensor?
Another thing that isn't working anymore is the auto brightness that's always set to minimum, no matter the light conditions. The phone is online for 260+ hours already (had it go to 500+ before but had to turn it off to add a micro sd card, just to be sure it would find it).

Ugh... thing is if you drop your phone, it could crack both with screen protector and without one. If you grind the screen against your keys, it will get scratched through the protective film.
If you use it normally - the chance of scratching it really small. Just my 2 cents.

My wife's phone had a screen protector on and got scratched by being in her purse. The actual screen though had no marks. The screen protectors help. Obviously each incident is different but they can help prevent some damage so in my opinion they are worth it.

Hi there,
Got the same trouble..... but I just noticed it work fine at the sun (outdoor)..... turn the screen off in the shadow..... and switch on in the sun....
so I think a light adjustment has to be done.... but where ?...

"no problems" - umm.. No... that separation of protector from glass (Halo?) at the top would bother me to no end. I had that issue with the Jellycomb protector and am waiting on the replacement.
"seems perfect" after showing halo around the edges of the protector lol
Perfect to me my friends. I'm not a big complainer. 90% of the screen is being protected for $2, that's an a better deal than 0.

Record yourself making a call, I'm willing to bet your proximity sensor is being blocked and the screen will turn off when the call starts....You wont be able to turn it back on until the caller on the other end hangs up.
There apparently is a workaround for that. I've copied an earlier post from the main tempered glass screen protectors thread (Post #323). Worth a try:

I believe when you check that it recalibrates the sensor. So could someone else please check this and see if it works for them.. ( I wish I would have discovered this before I lifted up my screen protector like 10 times and messed up most of the edges smh.... )
Also if you do not have anyone to call to check to see if it is working you can use this app

Ordered two from Xtremeguard. First one looked like this:
Obviously, that one sucked so I removed it. Second one looked like:
That sucked, too...they had sent me a replacement for the first so I tried again. Nope...fail.
I've tried an Xtremeguard three times (seem to be three different versions) with the exact same results. Also tried an Orzly from Amazon (first one I tried) which also look this bad.
I'm starting to believe my phone is a bit more rounded than others...

That looks terrible. Like they didn't test it before selling these. Wonder if the smaller ones (Yootech, Intelliarmor, newer Orzly) would work on yours despite the curved glass.
The Ozrly was smaller. Even with the ghosting, I very seriously doubt I could handle the space between the case and the glass. It just makes the phone look ugly.

They did test it, the problem is that each Nexus 6 has a different amount of curve. It fits almost perfect on mine except for a bit of lifting at the top. For some people, the fit is perfect
The InetllARMOR isn't good, but it's better than the one shown.

Replacement LCD Quality vs. Your Original Screen

For those of you who've replaced your screens either DIY or via LG warranty replacement...please post how your screen quality and viewing angles compare to the original LCD.
I'll start...
1. On my Current G2, I had a perfect screen. Perfect viewing angles and excellent image quality with no defects
2. Ebay Replacement screen #1 had dead pixels and Mira lines.
3. Ebay replacement screen # 2 had horrible color. Almost black and white
4. Amazon replacement screen has great color & image quality but lesser degree of viewing angles.
It's hard to explain but easy to compare to other G2s and phones when you compare side by side.
After all these screen swaps in the last couple months I've decided to keep this screen and use the phone as is.
How does your replacement screen compare to the original one?
I got LG performed a "total refurbished" when I dropped and shattered my screen.
It came back and looked like new, no difference to the original.
After a shattered screen i got it replaced.two months waoting time.now have jdi panel but brightness is very low and have lots of screen bleed around the edges.the repairman did not do a good job but the panel itself is of lower quality.color and contrast ok but luminosity is about 70%of the original...not happy but no money for yet another panel...
Conclusion:dont drop the phone...
After having touch screen issues on my phone (no-touch zone, ghost touches), I bought a replacement screen for my D800 off eBay.
Got it replaced and so far, the quality (colours, brightness, touch accuracy) is very good. I'd say the screen is slightly more yellow than my original screen but it's by no means an issue.
The screen I got for my "new" Z3, is full of problems. It has press marks(areas on the screen which appear brighter/whiter) and the screen "flickers" on high brightness. My friend can't see it well, but I can very clearly see the screen going bright->dark->bright->dark slightly and very quickly.
Dropped mine and got it replaced at a cheap place in Bangkok.
Colours are the same, viewing angles are not as good, but
those doesn't matter to me.
Been 2 months dropped phone again, screen shattert again...
Biggest supprise: Touch is still working perfectly! Seems like the cheap replacement screen doesn't have the NoGap technology like the original ones haha. Seems like win win to me!

Thanks for the responses guys and sorry to hear about your screens.
Made a new poll. Please participate.
I'm trying to make a case that there are different versions of LCD panels made by different manufacturers.
They don't advertise which is which but we're starting to notice now that we're having out screens replaced.
I replaced my LG D800 screen with one from Amazon and the colors are slightly darker but other than that no big deal. I didn't do a good job with the replacement so there is definite light bleed on the edges and after four months of using it im getting ghost touches if I press on the lower portion of the screen. Don't think it's quite worth the $80 replacement to try again and get it right, just something I'll deal with until a new phone comes out and I can get it replaced all together.
Similar experience to laboratik except the repair was done at LG so the workmanship is good. But it is jdi panel and darker than the original.
Thank you guys for the responses. This thread should be helpful to others in our same situation.
The sad fact is that the market is flooded with aftermarket screens made by who knows.
Just compared my screen with the S6 Edge and have to say I'm very impressed with the image and color on this replacement screen however that's where the buck stops.
The reduced viewing angles are tolerable at best. I'd hate to remove this replacement screen send it back all over again...roll, dice pray I get a perfect match but unless I'm removing it from a G2 myself I'm starting to believe it's not likely it'll happen.
Check out this review on Amazon re: the screen I have.
This guy nails my current situation

I got a few of them from eBay, I can link you the buyer if you want, I've sold them and they are close to OEM, they only have one MAJOR flaw, they are thicker. While you'd think this wouldn't be an issue, they are thick enough to not be able to slip into most cases, so it's annoying.

That's the ebay seller I use for replacement parts.
So far the screens have been OEM quality( G2, GPro, AHD) I've bought a few from there, and they all have great quality, except for the thickness, they all seem to be thicker, this is probably due to it not being real gorilla glass, and just a knock off lol.
it looks like my replacement screen for LG service center has slightly lower sunlight legibility than original,
I dont know which panel is this, but brightness is reduced

After removing the Amazon screen and reinstalling the original one, I notice the Amazon one has slightly higher ppi/contrast with a smoother looking picture....WTH
Now if I can have that with the original screen's viewing angles I'd be golden....
Oh well....time to pack it back and return it back...will report back shortly

Hye guys. Im sorry if im in the wrong thread. Right now im in need for lg g2 d802 lcd full assembly replacement but im in tight budget right now. I can afford max for 60 bucks. I've heard about "crazy touch" issue too so im afraid if im not lucky enough to get one of those. Anyone here have experienced with these full lcd assembly from ebay? That one almost certainly looks like it will be a low quality replacement you will be unhappy with.
My personal opinion, if you want a full frame screen replacement....at least get one with the LG logo.
Saw one on ebay for 59.00 last night. The seller claimed to test them before they ship.

60-80% of the cost of a pre-owned device. Don't see the value.
Guessing an aging battery swelled putting pressure on the screen. If accurate failure was imminent. So called 'screen protectors' are only effective against direct abrasion/impact; 'hard' overlays can actually contribute to glass fracture on drops and other events depending on how forces are distributed.

Yes i know the display isnt cheap, only want to spend the less to repair it, was saving some money to get the 64gb version and leave this kindle to my mother, she only want some basic stuff, 16gb isnt enuogh to save mutiple ISO's / APK and my stuff, but this unfortunate accident, change my plans, and i decide repair the cracked kindle first , the good side is , the tablet drop the price next months.
So, i make the order on Ebay, its a good chance to make a video/ tutorial to replace screen , the videos available on youtube dont have a good Quality.
