Hey all. So I'm picking up a brand new G4 in the morning. I've not owned a G4, and have been on the Galaxy 6 for about a year and a half. Buying that phone was the biggest mistake I've made, it got me so out of touch with the Android world because there never was a decent root method that I was able to obtain in my opinion. I see a ton of different threads on here about Tools, Themes, Apps, etc and of course ROMs for the G4. I won't have the G4 long, only until my contract is up in October, then I'm cutting ties with Big Red and going global. However, until then, I am hoping that maybe I can get root on this phone and unlock some of its potential. I have looked around a few times now, but really the only thing I can find is the KDZ images, is that correct? Is this simply because we can't unlock the bootloader? Or maybe there is something I'm completely overlooking? If I'm missing something, or if there's any info you can give me on what I'm in store for, please let me know. I really miss my custom Android devices so much, I'm just not a person that has the financial means to go out and get a new phone every time these talented developers can't find a good root.
Thanks for any responses, I've missed you XDA.
Trust me though, I'm saving up already and going to grab a Huawei more than likely when I finally divorce from this 15 year partner that to me is now, Big Dead.

T-Mobile H811 can also be unlocked.
hii, I first want to apologize for my bad english, it isn't my native language. secondly i wanted to ask if anybody here knows if lineageos or anything like these custom (nearly stock) roms is going to be available for the oppo find x and how long it would take before they will be released. I'm considering buying a OPX and i am pretty new to buying chinese phones, I heard a lot of complaints about not getting a notification of whatsapp or anything like this, I really don't like the idea that I would have to open whatsapp every time to see if i got a notification or not.
thanks for your help.

No apologies needed, make yourself at home @maikonor ........... :good:
While I can't speak regarding Whatsapp, you can get timely notifications for email/other SMS/MMS messaging apps, but,a lot of digging around in the settings is involved. Nothing beyond most users expertise,it's just a lot of redundancy & repitition, but, once set-up,my notifications come through just fine.
As for development,it's not unheard of on Oppo devices, but,is it possible with this phone ? IDK if the current firmware/software will support it.
If the promise of root/ROMs is a must,it's probably gonna be a while before development takes grip,if it ever does.
I'm hoping once the phone becomes available in more markets (international release/ROM),we'll begin to see some hint of what the future holds.

thanks for your reply, root/custom ROM is not a must for me if, I (in the netherlands) at least can change my home launcher.
Hey buddy, This is my second OPPO variant. From my previous experience on R11P, it was pretty nasty. Nothing was released from OPPO to support unlocking or Root the device. However, with Find X, OPPO has launched globally. It might change its perspectives regarding playing around with the systems. who knows. I hope they do, I love flashing ROMs, lolz!

Thanks for your reply, I hope they do change perspective and otherwise I will buy an oneplus 6.
The Find 7 was unlocked and they provided a rudimentary support for unlocking and rooting, this is the last vairiant that I'm aware of that saw wide release. Realistically that's all we need to obtain root, which is pretty easy via magisk. The Chinese launcher restrictions wont exist on the international handsets, those are for the Chinese market only and you'll be able to use the phone pretty much as normal in the Android world. It's all about whether or not the bootloader is unlocked. If yes we should be able to get root ourselves without special skills. From there it's just a matter of whether anyone with skills decides to pick up the phone and develop for it and then you've got TWRP and possibly a rom or two to play with.
I hope Oppo could release international version of the Find X rom
The chinese rom is pretty much unusable in North America
If it's like OPPO's other phones from the last few years, it will have a locked bootloader with fastboot removed and they won't release any kernel source.
Chinese OPPO fans tell you,It is very hard to request a root access or source code from OPPO,or just wait a loooong time:crying:,OPPO has always been like this, and sorry about my bad English,i want say more but i do not known how to
Explain in eglish(+_+)
Hard to do in China, there are rules there prohibiting that very thing and even when those don't apply Chinese companies are rightfully afraid to do something their dictator doesn't want because their executives would like to remain among the living. Chinese leaders are pragmatists however who enjoy the riches they deny the masses which means their products need to sell on a global market so they can keep enjoying all the things their populace is denied. The last product Oppo released in the world market was bootloader unlocked and they provided support for rooting. This does not mean the same will happen now but have no doubt they are well aware that their practices with Chinese phones will kill any hope at all of selling in the international market. Something to think about; One+ is owned by Oppo. They are unlocked and fully supported.
Huawei Mate 10 Pro Development.
Why is there no ROM's available for the Huawei Mate 10 Pro? Is it a case of no developers working on it or is it a case that custom roms can't be done for this phone? I've always been a big "flasher" with every phone I've had and I get this phone tomorrow. If there are no roms available due to lack of development, I would love to be pointed into the right direction on how I would go about creating a custom ROM for this phone. And hopefully release it to the community.
All information that will help me on my quest, would be greatly appreciated.
Same here, very strange. Its top flagship phone
There are Treble roms available, check out https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble and https://openkirin.net/
Right now the only way to unlock bootloader is by using DC-unlocker/HCU (Paid service) to get an unlock code, Huawei removed their free unlock page 6 days ago (24-07-2018).
This didn't answer your question...
But I guess there are too few devs interested in custom stock roms. Adding features to stock (Like a power menu, for example) is no fun as most Huawei apks can't be decompiled/recompiled.
So basically you can debloat, add apps and theme.
I'd focus on Treble though
Yeah, Huawei is now locked. I guess Rom development will stop soon to a complete halt
Who wants to develop for five users only?
Regarding unlocking the bootloader.
Basically I was pissed at them because I didn't got my code on time and i have opened a ticket for this issue, in a few hours I have received by e-mail the unlock code... i was impressed so better try this method first and afterwards the paid one.
Hi, i was planning to buy the phone. My poor OnePlus 3T is dying and i thought the GT 2 Pro could be a good replacement. The only thing that is stopping me is the locked bootloader. I searched a bit and i read about the Depth Test app and such. Is there a way to unlock the Global Version bootloader? And there will be any development for the phone? I never had a Realme phone, what do you think about it? Did other realme phones had any community developments?
I wouldn't count on it. Only chinese firmware can be unlocked. Therefore, a significant community is not to be expected.
Edit: Happily, I have to correct myself. It's a moderate miracle.
Why would a locked bootloader stop you from this purchase? For the Chinese version I have uninstalled or suspended unwanted or Chinese language apps using ADB/ADB shell.

I try to keep a phone as much as possible, my nexus 5 survived 5 years and my OnePlus 3T is almost at its 6th birthday. If it wasn't for the community i couldn't have used it for this much time. And then i also want to have as much control as i can on what i own, if i can root the phone i can put an adblocker, i can uninstall everything i want and put all the patches i want.
that;s my concern on this phone. samsung promise a four system support and xiaomi ,oneplus do have big community to have custom rom even after they stop providing updates.(xiaomi usually provide 2 years of update)
from my opinion , if a phone can have 4 year official update is a must.
else we better go with iphone, it can confirm have at least 4 big system update , i don't think other than pixel or samsung will have this kind of long support.
Thanks god I read this
Today you can not even trust OnePlus with updates, a Realme is a no go with.locked bootloader.
Why wouldn't you just buy the global version and not even worry about bootloader's? I regret buying the China variant. biggest gripe was Google pay not working and even tho I got Google pay to work without unlocking or flashing anything there was just too much lacking with the China phone.
now that I have the global ROM flashed it's just gotten worse... Yeah I got my Google assistant to respond but now I can't play call of duty and use a bunch of other apps.
I don't think that would be that case if I would have just waited a month longer and got the global version instead.
If you worried about support and future updates, like others have said you should only expect the 4 promised, if that.
Tbh I'm looking to sell mine and dish out the extra for the Samsung.
If you do buy the phone.. do not but the China variant. Save yourself the headache
I would not get the chinese version but also not the global version with "forever locked bootloader"
Most of the chinese brands "forget" their phones after 1y, see OnePlus 9. Even cheap 3y old 200€ Samsung devices get faster updates than last year flagship...
I'm also planning to buy this phone but, no custom rom and development is my major concern.
I think I'll buy something else.

True, but then again Samsung has tons more cash to spend on software development.
In my opinion don't buy it, i bought it thinking i could unlock it ... Well i would have not done. I had nexus 5 and op3 in last years, i think as you about smartphones

How does it work? You can use it even with a locked bootloader and no custom recovery?
Maybe I am confused but I own the GT 2 Pro global version and right there in developer options is "OEM Unlocking: allow bootloader to be unlocked." Does this not work and if so why is it even there?

That's a bit of a bummer. Paid more for the global version just to find out people are having success flashing the global ROM onto the much cheaper CN variants. Then there is even a guide to flash the CN ROM over the global ROM but Im guessing that is just for flashing back to CN ROM on an original CN phone that was previously flashed with global? Meaning we can't just take an RMX3301 and flash CN ROM to it then unlock bootloader from there?

All we can do is email RealMe and keep requesting global bootloader unlocking.
This never happen before so just forget it :/
I think if enough people bombard RealMe with these types of request they might reconsider.
Hello community.
Unfortunately I haven't found any custom ROMs for the S23 Ultra yet. Since the cell phone is already a few months old, I would like to know if there is any information about the status of current ROMs. There are these "classics" that seem to develop a ROM for every cell phone, but I haven't seen anything from them either.
OneUI is so bad, I need to get that crap off my phone asap xD
Have you looked in the development section? There are 2 threads of customs Roms. Other custom Roms for S23Ultra you can find on telegram.

Hey thx for the reply.
These two custom Roms are "Just" the Stock Rom with magisk and root.
I also don't have Telegram and i woudn't Trust a ROM which is Just available over a Anonymous messanger.
Would be weird not to use a stock rom. No sPen support and no 100x zoom. Should try another version of the s23 series.

Just find another UI in Play Store or Googlem like Nova or Microsoft launcher.
Thats why I Said that i use Lawnchair as Launcher to get a more Stock Android Launcher. Unfortunately a Launcher doesn't Change the Settings, Dropdown Menü, Lockscreen or removes Bloatware. That's why i hope for a ROM Like PixelOS.

I recommend you to not install Custom ROM because the S23 is new, so the ROMs have maybe a lot of bugs.
I don't even find a custom ROM. Latest ROMs i can find is for Samsung S10 so wth is going on with Custom ROMs and Samsung?
I would even pref a Buggy Custom ROM with Stock Android experience over the Samsung ROM.

Samsung is making it harder to root, especially in the US where you physically can't unlock the bootloader unless you buy a non north American model. So the people in the US that make roms just gave up on Samsung devices since they're All going forward with no option to unlock the bootloader. As for other countries with rooting communities most are based on telegram because this is an English based forum and I know of several roms for s23u that are maintained/made by non English speakers so they stick to telegram.
How do i find these Telegram ROMs?
If it's just needs a Hero who makes Threads here i will do it.

Just start by googling XDA public telegram channels and just start asking about where custom ROM channels are and you will start getting links/invites.

No, people advised me to give up. Custom ROM will cause Volte to be lost and unable to make phone calls and send text messages
I tried using pixel GSI, but lost VOLTE and couldn't make phone calls or send text messages. Of course, fingerprint NFC is also unavailable
Thank you for testing and reporting! maybe we should wait a bit until the bugs are fixed. However, I'm glad to have found someone who needs a new rom as badly as I do. In any case, we need threads on XDA for the ROMs, XDA is THE contact point for such topics, so there should be a place for every ROM here as well.
