Spoof another (non-rooted) device to install apps? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a rooted tablet (Acer Iconia One 8 B1-810) and wanted a way of accessing all apps (eg. Monese banking app) as it's my only android device. Is there a way of faking/spoofing which phone/device it appears as to Play store/apps? Is there an alternative to market helper which I read is no longer being developed? Will a BuildProp Editor reliably solve these problems? If so which is best?
Also is there a reliable/simple way of hiding/temporarily disabling root for apps that detect it?

[Q] Changing DPI - is using the modded market 'safe'..?

I like changing the DPI of my Galaxy Nexus to 240dpi
Unfortunately, this makes some apps run in tablet mode (Plume Pro and Tweetcaster Pro)
Changing to 241dpi fixes this
However, this ruins my market - I can no longer get updates for many of my apps ("This app is not compatible with your device")
There is an option with LCD Density Modder Pro to use a 'modded market' - this seems to solve my problem, however... is using this modded market safe? Because surely it's some sort of hack and so I shouldn't keep my card details within it (to purchase apps?)
Thanks
Bump...
surely someone must know the answer..
I can't vouch for the app as I don't know what it does, but I can tell you that your card details aren't stored in the app settings, or anywhere on your device. They're linked to your Google account and stored online.
Thanks I think I'll use it

[Q] Is anyone tried to use "Root Keeper" app?

I just found app "Root Keeper" that use for use smartphone bank in S.Korea. S.Korea's bank deny that rooted phone use smartphone bank, cause for security. Is anyone tried to use that app, operated well in XS?
The problem is that your device is already rooted. Security dependent apps won't run if you device is rooted because the apps themselves can be compromised.

[No root] What does "pm hide" do exactly?

Hello
I have a question regarding the "pm hide". I know that it can be used to remove bloatware on a non-rooted device.
But what happens exactly under the hood? Is the app disabled? Can it still run in the background andere use resources?
Can this debloating technique have an impact on the speed and fluency of the device?
Thanks in advance!

Sent from my titan using XDA-Developers mobile app
I don't know about non-rooted devices, but on my rooted device it did strange things.
I wanted to hide some apps from the drawer, and thought it could be useful, but it did a bit more than just hiding from the drawer: the apps hidden with it were hidden from the drawer, yes, but were also hidden from the installed apps list (From settings), from Titanium backup list (they showed as uninstalled), in the store I had the button to install the app, as if it were not there. root browser showed the apk were still present in the /data/app...
One app was a key for the trial version, the trial version still reported as Pro, so in some way it detected the presence of the key. another was a plugin for Tasker, and Tasker said it cannot find the plugin, so there is a no go...
I went back and unhide them all, I don't want to risk an unbootable device.

Oreo - Hide App w/o Root?

Hey,
So is there way to hide another app in android oreo? I have seen some of the older ways, but basically they all seem dead (e.g. Disguise, PrivateMe, etc). What I have is an app that I would like to hide as much as possible from the main system (ideally even from being uninstalled). Maybe access it via the Dialer or something. Is this possible without rooting?
Does something like that exist?
Any solution?
You got any solution to this problem?

Question Any Way To Update /etc/hosts Without Root?

Is there any way to update /etc/hosts without root on SM-A526UZKDXAA?
I tried the old way of going through ADB from a Windows PC to transfer the file but permission is denied.
Ideally I'd be rooted (as I do with all my devices) but there isn't a mainstream way available yet to root or unlock the bootloader on the US market A52 5G.
I am not sure you can change it without root, but you do can use the vpn method. There are apks that are able to use VPN to change the host and/or the DNS. "Host to go" is an example of an app that is able to do that.
Yeah, i've been using Blokada for the past few days

Thanks. Yeah, i've been using Blokada for the past few days but it would be more ideal to be able to modify the local /etc/hosts file so there's no VPN process running all the time and wasting CPU cycles and also possibly compromising the integrity of my data by completely entrusting it to a 3rd party app.
Lets try something. There are apps that can give you the option to use some xposed modules without root. I wouldn't recommend using VirtualXposed because of the way it works, it makes a virtual space that has the ability to use xposed modules, pretty uncomfortable. I suggest you to try SPatch to give the xposed apps the ability to work. Unfortunately , those methods of using xposed without root don't work for everything, some apps requires root to work properly, but some will only need xposed itself to work. Try using SPatch with a module that has the ability to change the host file, for example "Unbelovedhosts". If it doesn't work, I am afraid that all you can do is to use a third party app, there is a really good app that can change the host file through vpn, it is extremely simple with just a simple switch to activate and deactivate and option to choose your host file, no ads, nothing, simple and easy to use, I don't think it will hog your cpu usage or ram.

it's not possible to modify system with apps like SPatch. Just use Adguard or Blokada
