Don't know where else to post this so please reassign if out of place.
I had a LG SP320 unlocked via software from ebay seller.
Initially had problems wherein the IMEI changed. Once that was changed back, all seemed OK but now I realize that I cannot receive sms messages. I can send sms, make and receive calls and browse internet.
Is it possible that the service actually involves flashing another rom and in so doing screwed up something?? Or is this not related?

Hi. I am asking this question for my partner who has an iMate Smartflip and she always roasts me for not sending here texts when I know I have. (I have a TyTnII with delivery noti on).
It appears she sends an SMS to me and I answer immediately, her Smartfilp does not pick it up but if she receives one 'out of the blue' it's OK. This is also very hit and miss in the way it fails.
Just wondering if anyone else has seen this. Checked the Forum and can't seem to see anything.
Cheers.
BTW, tried the obvious and put the SIM card in a different phone and it works fine....
Doesn't she use any data connection (GPRS)? The SMS should be delivered even when are connected but I have experienced delays of messages (I recieved SMS's few hours after the sending even my phone was turned on).
No GPRS in use as it's a PAYG SIM. Just the standard service center number.
It's really strange, the messages are not delayed, just don't appear on the phone even if I send them and get back a delivery notification as if its getting certain data it can't handle.
It's probably been fixed in a HTC firmware update but you know how iMate are slow to follow...
You can install any firmware you want to. If it's not a problem for you/her I hope update (which wipe out all user data as well) helps you. The newest firmware from Cingular would be probably the best one. (I dont have phone from Cingular but Im using their fw so it must be the same with iMate)
I usually find solutions to my own problems while lurking, but this one is stumping me.
Starting last night at some point I stopped being able to receive both calls and texts. I was quite confused because I was in the middle of a text conversation with someone and they just stopped responding.
Data still works and I can make calls and send texts, but when I send myself a text from another phone nothing happens and calls just go to voicemail.
The phone was on the Eugene 2E JK2 Froyo ROM. I re-flashed it, then flashed it back to stock and nothing helps. When data is off it still doesn't work.
Any ideas? I tried searching but couldn't find anything. My GoogleFu may be lacking
Weird, have you contacted t-mobile support? Many years ago on ATT, with an old school flip phone, I had a similar problem. One night, my phone just suddenly stopped being able to receive or make calls. It could only text. The only solution was to get a replacement--it was not software related.
I've got a new phone on the way because I've been experiencing a similar thing, off and on for the last few days. I called T-mo and went through all the troubleshooting but they can't find any reason for the phone to be behaving this way...gonna send me a new one as warranty replacement.
Hi,
I recently helped a colleague purchase a Galaxy SIII phone here in China, Guangzhou and made sure I checked the phone over completely before I purchased it.
I've done a search on the forums and check out anything that may be similar, but to no avail.
The problem is:
The phone will not receive any text messages, or at least they don't go through to the messaging app.
Text messages were being received normally for around a week
I disabled a bunch of pre-installed Chinese crap that is unfortunately not un-installable as it's baked into the ROM
It happened once, so I factory reset it, and then tested it. The text messages worked fine
I then disabled the Chinese stuff once again and installed Skype. Just to be sure, I sent more test text messages, and they were all received fine.
Around one week later, here we are, she says that text messages are not being received again.
All other functions of the phone are working. Internet / Edge network, sending texts, Play store, everything. Just not the receiving of texts!
I'm fairly confused as to this behaviour, particularly as it seems the text messages are working for a time limited period.
I had some inklings of what it could be:
- The SIII takes a micro-sim, the shop "manually" chopped the SIM using a cutter. Could this have damaged the SIM and caused this behaviour?
- The phone itself is faulty
- Something is up with the China Mobile settings / network and she needs to call them.
What would be your diagnosis, ideas, solutions XDA'ers?
Further information of any kind is, of course, available on request.
**** My ideas for a fix ****
Root the bastard and get a standard UK ROM on the phone to see if it works. However, I have some concerns. Years ago, when I bought my first HTC desire, when I rooted and put a UK ROM on it, I discovered that my phone was an imported Thai version of the phone and almost bricked it into a reboot loop as the phone didn't like a different regions ROM being loaded on.
I had to go through a convoluted process of making a specially edited SD-card to fool the phone into accepting different ROMS. Is this the case with the Galaxy SIII or have times moved on to more sophisticated means?
Thanks.

Have you try other messaging apps like Hancent SMS or Go SMS to confirm that msg service is not working?
Or maybe the CSC is causing the problem?

Open the stock messaging app. In its menu go to settings. Check that there is a number recorded under message centre. If not use Google to find the number for the carrier you are with and enter it.
I'm on an unrooted phone with a stock Rom and twice messaging has stopped working. The cause was that this number had spontaneously disappeared.

Ok, I've tried:
- alternative messaging apps, and they're not picking it up either.
- the message centre number.
When you say CSC? You mean the carrier code? It was bought in China and fitted with a Chinese ROM, but I'll look at the ROM settings and see what it is.
Thanks.
U dial *#1234# then you can see your csc
CSC – (Consumer Software Customization) Refers to the specific country or carriers for that said firmware is being build.
This where it contains the default settings of each specific geographical region, carrier network providers and network data connections.

I am having this problem. It was all working fine then suddenly it stopped. I don't know what could be the cause but I fooled around with the settings, deleted old text messages and then suddenly I received dozens of text messages.
It's like my phone isn't trying to receive any text messages. It can send text messages out but it won't receive any.
I am using Omega 31.1.
Can someone help me out please?

I had the same issue,
I changed the Network options from gsm only to "Auto" mode, and apparently it worked for me.
I recently had a problem where my htc Evo 4G LTE on the Sprint network. I'm posting this here because the Service Rep told me they were seeing a lot of issues like this lately, and I couldn't find anywhere else where this problem had been solved online.
Symptoms:
Phone would not send or receive text messages
Phone would not receive MMS messages
Phone would not generate any error on sending MMS messages, but message would never be received
Calls and data would function as normal
If number is Google Voice integrated, Voice would not receive text messages either.
Solution:
Find an old phone
Write down the MEID of both phones
Find a third phone to use to call Sprint (since you'll be activating/deactivating the other phones throughout the call), and know your account PIN/be able to verify your account
Call Sprint Customer Support (888-211-4727), and punch the appropriate numbers until you are talking to someone
Have them switch your number to the old phone's MEID. Make sure the old phone is activated.
Have them switch your number back to the new phone's MEID. Make sure the new phone is activated.
Texting should be working on your new phone again.
Notes: The old phone may not be necessary. It may be enough for the Sprint Service Rep to deactivate your phone and then reactivate it. But I figured I would write out the EXACT method that solved the problem for me, since I am positive that this method has worked at least once. I have neither the means nor the desire to recreate the problem, so I will have to leave testing of other methods to the next person that experiences this problem.
More information (including a more detailed retelling of how my phone was fixed) can be found in This Thread. (Yes, parts of this post are copy/pasted from the linked thread. Sue me.)
Anyway, I hope this saves someone some trouble (and if it does, feel free to hit the thanks button).
For some reason I can't receive any pictures, only a blank box appears. I've tried several different apps and I can receive pictures if I send to myself. I also can receive regular text messages fine.
Is the phone modded, custom ROM, etc.?
Has MMS ever worked on this phone? If yes, anything changed that might have caused it?
Check the APN to make sure its correct for your carrier (assuming AT&T, but that is just a guess), in particular the fields that are relevant to MMS.
If the phone is newly purchased through AT&T, you might confirm that your account was correctly provisioned for data, MMS, etc. Its not unheard of that they make an error on your account when you buy a new phone.
