Any way to use the lzplay method to get root access? - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

With how lzplay seemed to bypass security checks to install Google services on the mate 30, is it possible to do the same to get the device rooted without unlocking bootloader?

LZPlay has disappeared from the internet, it was taken down as soon as some really sketchy permissions were revealed so you're out of luck there. With what was discovered within the app it was just Huawei doing some backdoor crap to install Google apps and bypass the US ban. The app had nothing to do to with unlocking the bootloader or rooting so for right now mate 10 owners are sol

Successful root?

I have tried all kinds of ways to unlock/root this phone. I have rooted 6 HTC phones and in order to get my tasker profile and games and stuff I need my titanium backup. Any suggestions?

Currently, there are no known ways to root any variant of the G5. Most have a locked bootloader, and the only one that is unlocked (T-Mobile), has a secondary lock that prevents the flashing of a custom recovery or rooting. On top of that, Android 6.0/Marshmallow requires a modified kernel to achieve root (i.e. need to flash a custom boot image), so a System-based root no longer works either.
How do you test for the dm verify bit? I should get my unlocked unbranded UK retail unit on Friday so can check if the h850 is any different.

Unlocking your Device blocks Fingerprint Recognition ?

Hi, I was going to unlock my phone using the Xiaomi Unlock tool, but in the attention section, it says that fingerprint recognition won't be available anymore. Is it true, and if it ever happens, how can I reverse that? how can I re-lock my device? I want to unlock my device to maybe put an AOSP Rom when one comes out or MIUI 10 a little early, but if I lose those features I'll stick with the built-in updater!
Don't worry it just means that it can be bypassed on an unlocked device as it is insecure.
It wil not stop fingerprint/face unlock. Go Ahead.

I've just asked pretty much this same question in another thread (though I was more concerned about the property face unlock). I gather from reading around that the miunlock tool allows you to relock the bootloader.
My follow up question is, if you do this, relock your bootloader, are access to autoupdates and face unlock (if lost) reinstated?
Sorry for (kinda) cross-posting

Are you sure ? because the software literally says

Ok, thanks! Also, when it says "will remove all data" does this mean a factory reset? Is the phone "as new" next time you boot it up?

Yeah i think its like new but now i dont remeber
It will do a factory reset and also wipe internal storage.
Just to confirm what everyone's saying, I just unlocked my bootloader. It did a factory reset, then allowed me to set up face and fingerprint unlock, opt into (or out of) updates and mi services, all as it did at first boot.
Obviously, I don't yet know if it will actually get OTA updates, but time will tell (unless I root in the meantime). Also I forgot to check if mitool allows easy BL relocking and I've turned the pc off now, but everyone says it does

I want to buy a huawei mediapad M5, the rooting process looks like a pain.

This seems to be the best android tablet currently available. I really want one. But the rooting process looks complicated. First I have to unlock the bootloader. But I need an unlock code to do that. And huawei stopped offering the unlock code back in July. So what am I supposed to do? The only thing I need root for is TWRP and titanium backup.
Same here. Apparently you can get the unlock code with DC-Unlocker (which I have used before) but I have not found a 100% confirmation that this still works after Huawei has stopped their service.
I replaced my nexus 7 with a SHT-W09. I like it every apps run smootly. Two days ago i got the bootloader code with Dc-unlocker, i keep my tablet locked until the warranty (updates) will end then the tricky root way will be only a remember.
I follow this forum since july and every keys from DC-unlocked worked (they read it from your tablet).
A doubt: could Huawei, updating the "code", make unusable my key?
I unlocked mine via the Huawei site. Don't know if this still works. Flashed TWRP and flashed Magisk and that's it.
The only problem is when you install OTAs you need stock recovery and after that you need TWRP again to root it.
Not sure but it worked pretty smooth via the Huawei website.

It's easy and worthwhile! Bootloader unlock is an arse, though, now that the Huawei site is gone. Heard good things about 3rd party tools to unlock. Root is easily achieved with Magisk - no need for TWRP.

No BUT they can update firmware so that DC Unlocker will no longer work. In some firmware releases for the Mate 9 and/or Mate 10, Huawei has patched up the backdoor that DC Unlocker uses to retrieve the unlock code.
But if you obtain your unlock code before installing any recent updates, DC Unlocker should work every time.
I just purchased an M5 10.8" and can confirm that I used DC Unlocker successfully and now have an unlocked bootloader. I did not allow the device to download an update though.
Hmm. So I should use DC unlocked? I live in america. Will there be a problem paying the $5 with my credit card?

Rooting without unlocking bootloader - is it possible?

I've just bought V30 and would like to root it. Preferably with Magisk.
Every guide I found requires to unlock bootloader. This is one step too far for me. Is there a way to root V30 without unlocking it's bootloader?

NO.
Which variant did you buy?
With some, it's simply flashing a simple code via fastboot flash commands. On others you first have to convert to a variant which has fastboot flash commands, so you can flash that code. If you tell us which variant you bought, you will know if you have extra steps or not...
For all V30/V30+/V30S (except T-mobile H932) for bootloader unlock and root, you need to:
have fastboot flash commands
be on specific Oreo firmware
use the "fake" bootloader unlock code
install TWRP and flash Magisk (OK technically there is a way to root without installing TWRP, but it's easier with TWRP)
WTF V30/V30+/V30S Bootloader Unlock and Root
Thank you for your reply. I've bought European H930. Unbranded.
Android 8.0.0. Build: OPR1.170623.026. SW: V20d-EUR-XX. Security patch: 1.03.2018.
I don't want to loose my warranty, DRM protected stuff playback capability, etc.
These warnings from LG bootloader unlock website worry me and make me extra cautious. I have to be 100% sure none of the things will happen:
"When unlocking the bootloader, applications which require a trusted execution environment (TEE) to operate will not work properly because after unlocking the bootloader the device will no longer be trusted.
Unlocking the bootloader will also affect the DRM protection of your device, therefore some applications which require DRM protection may not work anymore or block certain functions due to this untrusted state.
Common examples for affected applications are services which offer download/streaming of paid multimedia content like music and movies or services offering mobile payment."
Is there at least reliable app+data migration utility to move my apps with data from an old (Marshmallow) phone to this new one? LG Mobile Switch didn't manage to migrate apps' data.

LG also throws a scary bootloader unlock warning in your face.
LG's "warning" is to keep you from rooting your phone. If you've rooted phones before, its no different.
Magisk hides root, so all apps work.
Anyone who's rooted their V30 can tell you how it is. The threads here are very active!
But it's your decision.
Is it possible to lock back the bootloader at the end of the process?

At the end of what process? Rooting? You don't seem to understand, you have to unlock the bootloader to install TWRP. You have to install TWRP to flash Magisk. OK, technically there is a way to root without TWRP (by installing a rooted kernel), but you still need bootloader unlock.
You seem hung up on bootloader unlock when it's REALLY root that LG is trying to prevent. They really couldn't care less about bootloader unlock, they are focusing on that to prevent you from rooting your phone. Because once you unlock your bootloader you are one step away from root...
Yeah, you can lock the bootloader back if you no longer want root.
Most phones require bootloader unlock to root -- Motorola, Pixel, LG, ZTE, OnePlus.

I'm sorry, what is the DATE of the security patch? May, July, September? If pre-July, you are good to go. You just flash a simple code with fastboot. If July or later, you would need to temporarily downloader to pre-July 2018 firmware.
Thank you for your detailed answers! I really appreciate them.

Yes. I was wondering if it is possible to lock back the bootloader once the phone is rooted, TWRP, Magisk are there. The question behind it is if having unlocked bootloader doesn't unnecessarily increase security risk (of course the main risk is to have rooted phone, and I accept it).

Good news. Suppose I would unroot and lock back the bootloader, then send the phone to warranty service. Is it possible for the service to discover the phone was rooted and reject my warranty claim?

So far I've rooted every phone without unlocking bootloader. It was harder, but in some cases possible (Xperia Z2, Xperia V, Motorola Defy).

It's March.
I am not familiar with Magisk. Is it safer from the security point of view than classic roots with SuperSu+BusyBox?
Correct me if I am wrong, but unlocking bootloader means gaining write access to boot partition. TWRP needs to be stored on it. Kernel is also there. And where is Magisk stored?

How I rooted my Huawei P10 late 2018 (cost €4)

Here's just a quick guide of how I just successfully rooted my P10 (from android nougat)
Use this file (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1c1iQBvvP7zTUiKz5PZmlJUH5DKBxxC3L)
It has everything you need inside in one package. (I havent anything to do with the development of any of the tools, this is just my compilement of them)
1. BACK UP
Back up everything you can on you phone to your pc
2.Drivers
Easiest was is to install Huawei's HuSuite otherwise do a manual driver install
3.Get bootloader unlock code
This will cost 4eur but is now the only way to get the code since Huawei stopped providing the codes. I can verify DC unlocker are legit, their tools are scary powerful and well worth the cost. Follow the below tutorial for this.
https://www.dc-unlocker.com/how-to-read-huawei-bootloader-unlock-code
4.Unlock the bootloader
On the phone enable developer mode (look this up its easy) and enable usb debugging and oem unlock. Then plug the phone into your pc and run cmd.exe inside the set folder. Enter the command without quotes "adb reboot bootloader". This will restart the phone in bootloader mode. Next enter the command "fastboot oem unlock CODE" with your code that you got from dc unlocker. This will restart the phone from factory so you will need to do a quick set up and enable developer settings and usb debigging again.
5. Installing custom recovery
Enter the bootloader mode again with "adb reboot bootloader". Then from the bootloader mode enter the command "fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-0-vtr.img" this will install twrp recovery.
6. Installing Magisk root
Copy the zip file Magisk-v17.1.zip onto an sd card and insert into the phone.
Restart the phone into system again and use "adb reboot recovery". This will start the phone into twrp recovery mode. From here go to install, navigate to the zip and install it.
7.Finishing
Then boot the phone and Magisk manager should be installed on your now rooted phone for managing you super user and root.
Any questions or help needed message me, or my email is in my set folder.
@Jyndon use MEGA or zip files and attach it to the thread. People won't download from this, since they need premium feature to download folder.
Yeah bro I need it plz

I think we are out of luck I was just asked for 30 euros to get the bootloader unlocked as I am also on 8.0
On DC-Unlocker page it says:
Huawei P10 VTR-xxx upgraded to Android 8x not supported
Huawei P10 plus VKY-xxx upgraded to Android 8x not supported
Not sure if downgrading and then unlocking would make sense...

it's possible downgrading to previous version or to Nougat without unlocking bootloader first? Pheraps you mean forcing update via microsd slot?

Here is what I know so far:
1. You do not necessary to be on Nougat to unlock the bootloader, you should be able to unlock it if your firmware is before June patch
2. If you are on firmware after June patch, you would first need to rollback/downgrade to pre June firmware by finding previous firmware
3. Rolling back from after June patch to previous firmware might brick your phone
Currently, I did not find a way to unlock the bootloader on C654B327 as I cannot find any pre June firmware for my branding (C654) and rebranding to some other (C432) cannot be done without unlocked bootloader. And so far I did not hear of anyone downgrading and unlocking from C654B327 so I am a bit afraid I could brick my phone.
Guess I will wait and see if there are any good news in the future...

In that case you could always send an email to DC to see if they are working to update it to work for 8.0. They seem pretty helpful and responsive from when I've contacted them before so I'm sure they might be able to offer some information.

hi,
I tought so but I did downgrading with HiSuite and then locked all requirements for DC Unlocker and I've got my bootloader unlock code now to do anything !!!!
It took a while and lot of nerves but at the end you should do step by step all points which was mentioned in the begining of this thread.
in case of dc-unlocker problems try to use other usb port (other than usually you use for connecting the phone to computer)
