hey guys
there is an issue i'm encountering with since i bought pocophone.
whenever i enable a L2TP or PPTP VPN in the setting of the phone,it will connect but just lets data to get transfered for 2,3 mins and then the data transfer stops and not even a web page gets loaded but when i check it to see if the vpn is still connected or not,i see it's connected but no data transfer.
by the way any third party vpn app works properly and well, this problem is just for manual vpn settings.
and i have checked this problem with other pocophone users and in all other devices there's the same problem, but in other devices except pocophone the same settings for vpn works well and without any issues.
i think there's some firewall settings hidden in pocophone devices
anybody have any suggestions or solutions?

Bought my gtablet a few weeks back when it was on woot and have loved it so far. Did the Clockwork/TNT Lite setup, and have added a few games and apps...
I'm not sure if it is an app I installed or something else, but right now it will connect to WiFi as always, but the internet doesn't work. Other devices using the same access points connect and work perfectly, just my gtablet is failing. It goes through what appears to be a normal connect and gets an IP without any failure and shows connected, but none of the news, marketplace, or web browser apps are able to connect to the internet.
Any advice to trouble shoot network connectivity? I had recently installed LauncherPro and was working on installing Titanium Backup Pro, (which I either didn't actually download and was just emailed a key, or it never installed because I can't find it anywhere...)
Thanks!
Chris
I'm having the same problem with the ad-hoc wifi connection to WMwifirouter. The gtab shows it is connected with an IP, but no internet traffic will pass. That same ad-hoc wifi connection works with other winXP laptops.
However, wifi connections to my two other wifi router works fine.
I'm on stock 3389 with tnt enhancement pack.
Adhoc problem sounds gateway related.... the former issue... id start with a wipe.

I have the same issue - was it fixed yelrx8 ?
Posted here, since I believe this is a general and not device specific issue.
So, I have set up a VPN server on OSX Lion Server edition.
It is using l2tp with preshared key and username/password for login.
i(beep) works fine and connects. Laptop works fine and can connect.
But...
1. When Iam on local network (same IP segment) I can connect using Android native l2tp VPN connection setup with PSK and user/pass.
2. When I try to connect from external (3G or other WiFi net) I am unable to connect.
3. When I enabe native tether on Android device, and connect i(beep) to the Android AP, I still am able to connect from i(beep).
These three steps tells me it is not a carrier issue, and possibly an Android issue.
Did anyone experience this (and even better.....did you find a solution)?
Kinda like the l2tp connection for security, and also Lion natively does not supply pptp connection.

I am trying to do the same thing, I havent got the VPN to function yet though but I think its a router issue among other things. I bought a domain name and I am using that with dyndns to help simplify the ip change issues... I am getting a new router to test here next week so hopefully I'll have a better idea.
However now I am worried I'll run into the same issue as you!! lol... Its been a while since you posted, have you found a solution yet?
No. Didn't find a solution, but you might be correct in assuming its a router issue. Have a Netgear myself, and those have had quite a few issues.

I ended up getting a new Airport and it has pretty cool setup integration with the Server / Airport Utility, however I still cannot connect with the VPN connection.
My initial reason to set this up was to use PLEX... AND this actually works very well if I setup my connection through the PLEX connection settings.. but I still can't get it to work with the Android VPN setup.... (tested 3G and WiFi)
..also I cannot get the VPN to work with a Windows PC... tested a Mac (hackintosh) and it worked instantly...
so I think its a Mac thing maybe... Since PLEX is working... I am happy but would still like to get the VPN connection working properly. I suspect I'll need to call Apple about it though
I am also have a similar issue.
OSX Server running 10.6.8
L2TP VPN and PPTP services running
My iPhone and laptop can connect just fine. My HTC One X and HP Touchpad (CM9) can not. Both say the address can not be resolved. The server is sitting in the DMZ and if I enable the web server both devices can resolve to the default welcome page just fine.
1. It isn't a DNS issues since they can connect via the web
2. It isn't a port issue since other clients can connect
Is there some dumb setting i am missing in the VPN setup?
Thanks
Will
OSX Lion Server L2TP VPN and ICS not working
Hey guys.. I got PPTP to work to OSX Lion Server by making sure PPTP, L2TP, and IPSec forwarding were enabled through my router.
Also, make sure to check the VPN logs in /var/log/ppp/vpnd.log to see why it's not connecting..
Hi.
I want to connect to a vpn server by PPTP.I can connect to the server over 3G,but It doesn't connect over WiFi.
Sometimes when I turn on Fly Mode,it connects, but this happens sometimes. Also I'm sure that vpn server is up and running.
But there's no problem when I want to connect to that server by L2TP/IPSEC with PSK.
My Phone is Galaxy S3 running Android 4.0.4.
Please guide me how to fix this problem.
Thank you

As ridiculous as it sounds, this is a known bug in ICS.
It may (or may not) be fixed in JB (you'll have to ask someone else).
However, as ICS allows you to use third-party VPN protocols, there are some great OpenVPN clients in the market, if your VPN provider supports it. This is the solution I had to accept
Both CM10 as well as the leaked JB ROM from Samsung fix all VPN issues for me.
I just did a PPTP connection with my router running DD-WRT and didn't have any problems. The only problem that I did have is that once I am connected I can't disconnect without doing a reboot which could be a problem with CleanROM 2.0 that I am running. At any rate it, it routed all of my data through the VPN.
I can connect to vpnreactor servers with PPTP just fine, but trying my DD-WRT box is always unsuccessful. Hopefully with stock JB it will work for me.
The OpenVPN client from PLAY works great when connecting to our Cisco 527 router at the office. No worries at all to setup and use.
Using the Citrix receiver works well through it as well. AWESOME
I am using a Nexus 7 running jelly bean 4.2. I have a vpn that I use which is working much better than 4.1 (no longer disconnects all the time). I am trying to use the Always-on VPN but I can't seem to get it to work. Perhaps I am mis-understanding the functionality.
Currently I am in the VPN section in settings. I see my VPN connection and it says Connected. If I click the options menus I see Help and Always-on VPN. When I click on Always-on VPN, it asks me to select a VPN profile to always remain connected to. The only option I get is None, which is selected.
Why am I not able to select the VPN connection that I have created (the one it's currently connected to)? Am I missing a step?
Thanks in advance. :good:
Same problem here...
I'm having the same issue. I wish Google would detail these things more thoroughly. YouTube is wonderful for this sort of thing. And gee they own it. Google, please use your resources.
I tried always on using a PPTP connection and wasn't given the option to select an always on vpn. Then I tried a L2TP/IPSec connection and was able to select it once I set the server address to an IP and provided a numeric DNS server. However, it doesn't connect. I keep getting an error about no network connection even though my wifi is connected. I have to set auto-on to none before I can use the vpn. Also, it still won't let me select the PPTP connection as always on even after providing the numeric server and DNS.
I'm using a nexus 7 and 4.2.

Same here!!!!!
Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7
Can anyone call to 855-83-NEXUS ? (I'm outside of USA)
In help article, it says:
Set up an always-on VPN
Some VPNs support an always-on mode that won't permit network traffic if the VPN connection stops working. This can be useful, for example, if you're moving between unsecured public Wi-Fi access points and want to make sure that your VPN connection remains active and secure. If an always-on VPN connection is lost, you'll receive a notification and won't be able to send or receive data until the connection is restablished.
Before switching a VPN network to always-on mode:
Get detailed setup instructions from your administrator.
Add the VPN.
Connect to the network and, after providing your username and password, check Save account information. This is required for always-on VPNs.
See above for instructions for adding and connecting to a VPN.
After you've set up the network and saved your account information:
From the VPN screen, choose Menu > Always-on VPN.
Select the VPN.
Touch OK.
A permanent notification keeps you informed of the always-on VPN's status.

I can't seem to get it to work either.. Iv'e set up an L2TP/IPSEC VPN with a preshared key up, and it connects fine. Everything works but the "always-on" feature...
Iv'e also tried to set it up with my wan ip instead of FQDN, + set one of my internal DNS servers ip in the config, but still always-on wont work.
I still just get the error in the buttom of the screen saying, that it requires both a server ip and a dns server. I've done that, so what the hell does it mean?..
Really hope i can get this feature up and running!...
EDIT:
I had configured the ip address in the name field instead of the server field
It still doesn't work though.. I can without errors set my VPN connection to be always on. But the only thing that happens is that the notification says connecting, and i lose my internet connection. And it just stays that way..

Has a solution to this been found? Or does anyone know if anyone (CM etc) is planning on releasing a fix?

This still doesn't work for me using any of my Nexus devices. I've tried about 5 different VPN of different types.
I just noticed the same issue today on the 4/22 nightly of Cyanogenmod 4.2.2 for the i727 skyrocket. I've only tried with a pptp VPN.
Has someone solved the problem? It still says missing server and DNS IP...
Maybe they'll fix it in key lime pie?
Having looked at CYAN-682 again, it might not include the bug we are experiencing. https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-682
CYAN-682 describes seeing the "always on VPN connecting" message, which I have never seen since I'm not able to select a VPN at all.
The instructions say some VPNs support always on... What feature of a VPN server would allow this??
Will Never Work
PPTP is not supported as the encryption is too weak. Google deemed this so. Sorry!
grrrr google really pee me off with this stuff. i as the user should be able to decide what is secure enough and if i must have a lock on the device if i have a vpn installed.
dear google, i am not an f ing apple user so please dont treat me like one!!!
Got it working....
I figured out how to get "always on VPN" working by trying out...
Here is my conclusion:
1.) PPTP -> Not selectable,
2.) L2TP/IPSec PSK -> Not working,
3.) L2TP/IPSec RSA -> Not working,
4.) IPSec Xauth PSK -> Not tried, but i think it should work
5.) IPSec Xauth RSA -> WORKING:laugh:
6.) IPSec Hybrid RSA -> Not tried, but i think should work
I tried that using racoon ike...

I was also able to get it to work using IPSec Xauth RSA. Thanks!
You have to enter the IP addresses of the vpn server and the DNS server. Apparently only this mode of connection is supported on android.
Apologies if this has been asked before, but I've searched and couldn't find anything that matches what I'm after.
I have a GNex running custom 4.2.2 and Windows 7 x64.
I want to be able to access my phone from my PC. To do this, I installed AirDroid. All good so far.
Issue 1: Using WiFi to access the phone, it doesn't do anything when the screen is off/the device is locked. Annoying.
Issue 2: Using USB tethering, it works fine when the screen is off, but kills my PC's internet access. Also annoying.
I would like to use USB tethering if possible, but I only want to be able to access my phone via AirDroid, not use it for internet (my PC has a much better wired connection already).
More on issue 2: Windows says the DNS server is unavailable when I troubleshoot. The moment I plug in my phone and the NDIS-thingy connection is formed, I lose internet access via my normal connection. It goes back to normal as soon as I unplug it. I've tried changing the priority of the network devices, but to no avail.
Any help appreciated.
Solved my own problem.
To those who are curious:
Under network settings for the USB tether, set DNS server addresses manually, go into advanced settings, and set the default gateway to whatever your router's address is.
