Restoring Apps after custom ROM install - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I have recently installed a custom Lineage ROM (17.1) on my LG G5. Before flashing I backup up my apps using two methods:
LG Backup tool that was available on my stock LG firmware
Backup % Resore Android App (to my Google Drive)
LG Backup is obviously a custom LG app which is not available on a custom Rom, I tried an IPK which I found but it didn't open after install. The backup is a single .LBF file
Backup & Restore doesn't restore, after selecting to download an app from my drive it is then available in the archive. If I click to restore the app doesn't do anything.
I am also unable to restore my SMS messages, I used a PC app SyncDroid to backup call logs, contacts and sms. All restored but the messages despite a confirmation message. The file is an xml.
Any ideas or suggestions?

The app backup tool that I used has created a folder of .apk files. Is there another app I can use to attempt to restore?

I use Titanium Backup. It backs up apps and sms and call history. It does require root though. Its in the app store.
If you click on the .apk files does in install them?

[Q] Titanim backup - how to resore an app from .TiBkp

I've created a backup called "app +data (easy import)".
Now I can't find any option to restore an app from this backup.
Not from dropbox nor from a titanium backup folder.
Titanium does not see this file and says there is no backup for that app.
So how to restore an app from this kind of backup??
Try clicking on the backup file either in Dropbox or the local file system and running it. Titanium Backup will then ask if you want to restore the app and or data. I know I saved my backup in Gmail, and after downloading, I just press view in Gmail itself and TiBackup will show that dialog.
Sent from my HSPA+ Nexus Prime using Tapatalk 2
it was enough to update to the nevest verssion.
Now I have a bigger problem.
It does not restore any data of system apps.
Not Go Launcher, nor Go sms, or rom settings are being restored.
I've tried to flash the rom again an then restore - no result.
How to force titanium to restore system apps data?
ps. I was able to do it before. It's just stopped working.
Hi I am having similar problems, backed up using easy backup apk & data, sent via gmail to my other phone with Titanium backup on it, when I open it TB recognises it and says please wait, but nothing happens the app does not install. It is only a widget that I want installed but its not having it :crying:
Also I have a tf101 which is not rooted is there anyway I can unzip without TB to use this free widget as its not on the general market, I have a paid version of TB and using the latest release, but obviously not on the tf101.
Any help appreciated as it is frustrating I cannot save apks to other phones.
Thanks

I never found the correct answer to this question, which - from my experience - is a rather improbable one. This is the answer:
Find your TiBkp file with some kind of file explorer. In my case: I used "root explorer", probably any other one will do as well. Tap on it.
You will see: "No activity found to open this file."
Your options are
a) cancel
b) open as.
Choose "open as".
Now you get a lot of options (I see seven). One of them is: APK file. Choose it.
Now you may select an "option for null" (probably the null refers to the unknown file extension TiBkp) .
The options are: cancel, view and Install.
Choose install.
Now you get the option from Titanium backup to restore your files. And that works perfectly.....
Cheers :victory:
Hello, i Know this thread is old, but i seem to have run into the same problem. My tibkp file is grayed out and i can't access it. and when i navigate to it and try to open it, it won't give an option to open it with Titanium. Help please. Thank you
PS I have a rooted S7 Edge. Thank you
Hm.. I'm having a similar issue: I can't import .TiBKP files anymore; two devices, S6 Edge running SuperSU-rooted nougat, and Tab S2 running magiskSU-rooted nougat (in both cases the nougat itself is from samsung)
Hello im having troubles backing up an app.
Whenever i back up i get three files (.apk .tar and one PROPERTIES) instead of the .TiBkp. I cant restore said files.
Help please.
New phone, Old problem. Trying to use .TiBKP files to migrate apps&settings from my old phone to my new one, rather than just simply copy everything using smart switch, but opening them in Titanium Backup is NOT an option for .TiBKP files.
Any hints?

Sms app problem!! Help me please!

Hi guys, i've a problem...i had an LG Optimus 3D and yesterday i bought a GSIII...today I root it and i transferred the folder of titanium backup of the LG on the Galaxy...I restored all the apps and now the native SMS app doesnt work,if i try to open the app it crash probably because it is damaged by the data of titanium backup ...What can i do now? I have to reinstall te .apk file of sms app? where can i find it?? HELP ME PLEASEEEEEEE
way out
when you use titanium backup to restore sms
you should restore only Data
that is, when you restore messages, you should restore DATA ONLY
and if you restore app+data, then sms application will always crash, because sms app of one phone dowsnot work on another phone.
Now the way out is,
1. you will have to reflash the rom (donot wipe data)
2. then restore messaging DATA ONLY via titanium backup
All the best

[Q] restore sms backup made with stock message app

Hello,
I was using WildChild custom rom for my WildfireS and created a SMS backup before flashing and moving to m1ndh4x8 ROM. In this ROM there is no backup/restore function though.
-How do I restore my messages? Can I upgrade the stock message app? Or is there any B&R app that can read the backup file? so far I tried many but non of them worked.
Thanks for your help.

Whats the file format of the backup u did is it a *.csv or a *.xml?
the file saved by the stock app doesn't have any extension. I tried to import it in excel but I can see only strange characters. I also tried to rename as *.xml and start the restore with SMS Backup and Restore but it says "Failed:Null".
Thanks for your interest.

Hi,
Just wondering if there is a solution for me here. I did a CWM backup before soft-bricking phone and now all is up and running again. I still have the clockworkmod folder on sdcard but no boot.img etc. I notice Titanium Backup is the paid version which offers the options mentioned here. Is there any chance of locating and recovering my sms from this cwm backup folder? TIA
I have a similar problem.
I have used stock message app for backup and tried to restore my messages after a factory reset of my HTC Sensation (stock rom). Backup file is 3MB big and I guess that is the "reason" why it keeps reporting that it is "Unable to restore messages".
The backup file is located on SD in the apropriate folder.
I tried with some old 768KB file and succeded. Sent 1 sms and did the new backup to be sure that folder is asociated with the app - everything is ok. Even though I have restored that 1 sms in order to test the restore function and the path to backup files. Everything works just fine.
Conclusion: The backup file I need is too big.
How to solve this issue?
Perhaps I could shrink it somehow or use another app to read the file? Any idea?
edit: I forgot to tell. Those messages are veeery important to me (business, love, contacts, etc...) so I'll try anything I can to restore them.
I guess I always ask some too dificult or stupid questions or am not being loved arround here
Sensation won't restore

Hi Pezilla
Did you resolve this issue? I did a factory reset of my HTC Sensation and have the exact same problem. File size is 2.3Mb. No problem restoring smaller files. I can't think how to reduce the size of the file because I don't know how to read it!!

Hi, I have a similar problem. I have an SMS backup file from my HTC Wildfire S. This backup file was created on the SD Card by my unrooted and unmodified phone. I then rooted the phone, and now run WildChild on it. I cannot restore my old SMS from the original backup file.
As mentioned above, I have a file with no extension.
How can I restore my SMS messages? What apps do I need and where will I get them. (Total Noob!!).
Thanks

I searched that issue very much, so sorry but no other application reads that stock sms backup You have to flash stock rom first, after that you can restore your sms.

How to backup & restore my favorite apps

Running with OnePlus one. I'm still at the ROM & Device discovery stage. Trying custom ROMs and constantly reinstalling my apps. I'm not comfortable using Cloud BackUp or Google Sync.
What I would like to do is to create a backup of My favorite apps & contacts to store on Slackware box, that I can restore onto whatever ROM I choose to try on my OnePlus one but don't know how.
Need to know will a backup using TWRP, of System, Data, Boot, Cache will Restore my Contacts and Apps?
Also, can I remove Google Calendar, and Cloud Notes from ColorOS ver 2.0.6i.US_Fun rom? If yes, how? So I'm looking at Titanium Backup Free versioin, Ultimate Backup Free, App Backup & Restore Free, Easy Backup & Restore, System app remover, Super Backup: SMS & Contacts?
Yes, I'm rooted, have TWRP installed, ADB & Fastboot, Busybox is installed, ES File manager, & Terminal Emulator. If I can achieve what I want to do with software that is installed instead of downloading more, please just tell me how. I have searched this forum and read but I still need direction.
Thank you.

Restoring contacts from backup

I made a backup with the LG app on the stock rom (4.1) then upgraded to 5.1.1 , witch give me the option to restore my contacts after installation. Now i have a 4.4.4 Rom (because 5.1.1 was to laggy) but i cant find a way to restore them, i tried several backup apps and tried to import contacts from SD but says it cant scan the SD card :"Error I/O".
I also have a complete TWRP backup if that can help .
This was my first attempt at flashing Rom and i am total noob.
Is there a app that can restore the original LG Backup file (.sbf) or a way to install the original app on my new ROM, or some other method maybe ?
use titanium backup pro it has an option to solve your problems
Keep all your contacts in your Google account, then they'll automatically import when you log in.

Go back to oringinal firmware, restore backup, then export it to sd.
