I can turn this into a guide if we get the right info.
I have used DC-Unlocker to unlock bootloader and FRP.
I installed v20 Phh Generic System Image via fastboot flash system.
my FRP is locked now and bootloader unlocked, and oem unlock greyed out.
i am investigating a solution and maybe it can help others.
Recovery:
can flash updates if bootloader and frp is unlocked
eRecovery:
i can connect to wifi, but no firmware is found
DLOAD:
updates performed with vol down+up+power
using the update extractor i can get the UPDATE.APP from the official firmware (SHT-W09C432B151 (8.0.0.151) i think for me)
but UPDATE.APP is over fat32 4GB limit. so i cant put it on the SDCard - and im not sure if the recovery can read exFat.
i tried with both but they fail immediately.
placing the files in the internal storage with DLOAD folder seems to send update to 5% then fail.
HWOTA:
seems to be a method used on older devices - not sure if it will work to flash this device.
the sh. script seems fairly straightforward so maybe it can be modded to work with this device
Device: SHT-W09 M5 8.4 (eu)
Build Number: 8.0.0.151 (C432)
OS: Stock 151 with Phh GSI applied
ive never had a device this difficult to recover. samsung had odin to flash firmware, nexus 5/7/9 always had a way out - when i was building roms for moto xoom it wasnt this difficult.
Good luck man, it seems like when this thing bootloops, it activates some sort of defense mechanism that makes recovery particularly challenging.
I bootlooped after editing my vendor/build.prop file. DLoad method failed. Flashing partitions via fastboot failed. Stock recovery failed. TWRP became available, and I got it working...but no partitions would mount r/w. I paid to use Funky Huawei's unbrick tool, and it failed.
Funky Huawei's eRecovery method is basically all that worked for me. But I paid to use it (I still have a few weeks remaining on a pass).
These instructions, which don't involve payment to Funky Huawei, might or might not work:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/funky-huawei-erecovery-solution-100-t3620165
Thanks for the alternative method.
I tried with hisuite using firmware finder, it uses the same funky DNS server. When I start the process the download works fine then on hisuite it says installing, does nothing then fails. After I reboot (usb in pc, all 3 buttons) it shows a usb symbol - installing but hangs at 5% for ages.
I tried with a portable router with ERecovery and it did not work unfortunately still failed to get info
I had to result to funkyhuawei who have now added SHT-W09C432 to their system.
In the 30 days I have this I'm tdetermined to find alternative solutions to fix this issue like all other devices tend to have.
I battled it out with Huawei support and there's no chance of an frp key - at least first 3 attempts. Also tried to get them tonexplqin ERecovery but said it's for insiders only just for service repairs. They have no regard for helping developers.
I was trying to figure out where the file get stored on ERecovery so if we could adb push to it and hold vol down + up + power to recover the device. I found i could pull from /dload (not internal/externalsd) which contained firmware_update_dload.zip but when uncompressed e enwbti be referenced to Qualcomm chips.
Any ideas on patching the recovery or boot image to prevent frp lock?
I also tried to see if there is a way from adb (while OS is running) to flip the OEM unlock back to on but there's nothing in system/global/settings that represents that.
It's strange because frp should not lock if you log back into the same account.

Any conclusions why this metod isnt working? On older device this works everytime if you do it right but not on this device? is it a Oreo thing or is it because the UPDATE.APP is so big?

In my experience using the Huawei P9 the only time I was successful upgrading the firmware from the dload folder was when the firmware version ended with MF-PV (Public Version). Even though Huawei releases versions of the firmware without the MF-PV extension from what I read these versions are for testing purposes only.
In addition to my reply to you in the 8.0.0.163 firmware update thread there is a tool called HuRUpdater that has a similar upgrade procedure to the one I described when I upgraded the firmware on my SHT-AL09 from 151 to 163.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279
OK, thanks for this info, of course I thought that this device would be as easy to utdate then my much older M2-801L via dload which worked every time. And thanks for the tool tip, I'm looking into that thread as well :good:

Sorry for the late reply had some busy months!
So from what I remember it's because the UPDATE.APP was too big. I tried recreating the update.app without the non-essentials but I couldn't get it working.
Huawei support when I asked about how to update via recovery just kept saying it's only for technicians at Huawei so they won't help me in any way!
I used HuRUpdater to flash firmware to my Honor 10 and after following the instructions and performing a full wipe data factory reset and rebooted, it wouldn't turn on at all. I tried everything to get into ERecovery or fastboot but nothing. I read that there's is no solution for unbricking 2018 Honor/Huawei devices. Even Funky Huawei doesn't work or Multi Tool.

Yesterday one user was able to succeed updating through [HuRUpdater] and one of my friend was also able to update to one build but it showed different device specs and the same build build you tried hard bricked his device. If my guess is right it is the build issue and not [HuRUpdater] issue.May be I am wrong ?

Btw how does the brick Voids warranty ?
Its just a software issue and is covered in warranty.
Which country do you stay ?

I'm in the UK. I'm not exactly sure how bricking voids warranty but my guess would be because the end user is responsible for flashing various software to the device. I do remember seeing on the EMUI website that bootloader unlocking on devices after mid 2018 won't be eligible for bootloader unlocking due to so many hardware bricking cases.
I'm happy with my new OnePlus 6 though. I'll probably have to let go of the hope of recovering the Honor 10 even though I'm making a loss as I was gonna sell it.

I have same problem , I connected my device to adb , and I tried to reboot it , with adb reboot bootloader , fastboot reboot etc. and it said starting dameon , but stil nothing. pease help
Hello Guys,
I had exactly the same problem.
I upgraded to EMUI 9 and everything worked fine but I wanted to go back to EMUI 8.1 so I went to TWRP with the intention of doing a factory restoration and downgrade.
I made a Wipe / data, Wipe dalvic / format all data. After this I waited a lot and it didn´t respond.
I had to force the restart and since then the phone no longer works. Same for me, the phone has no recovery and no OS and no erecovery.
I have contacted the people from FunckyHuawei. I have paid 1 credit in order to unbrick the phone but it did not work. They said that; "It would need to be able to reach rescue recovery mode. If it can not reach that, it may be bricked beyond repair. "
Then I contacted another technician, I connected to my computer remotely and he tried to flash all necessary files via fastboot but some of them failed to flash.
He said it looks like there is no TWRP recovery COMPATIBLE for EMUI9 yet.
Now what to do guys? I will really apreciate any help. The phone has only 3 weeks and I feel so noob now.
Kind Regards,
Gerardo

Hello Max
I have flashed the update.zip using beta-downy_0.4 program
you have to transfer the 3 zip files update.zip, update_all_hw, update_data_public tp the "Zip-Here" Folder.
Then run the "Flash.bat" file and follow the instruction.
The update.zip will install the twrp recovery. Then I flashed the Kernel.img and system.img
after restar the phone was like new with EMUI9. However there are things that are not really well, such like the info in "about phone" is not showing the "compilation number" nor model number, also other options and functionalities has dissapeared but for the rest the phone works fine. At least you can recover the phone. I will do some more research today to fix those issues. I might have to reflash the whole system again.

Hello Max, any news?
In this case i would roll back on emui 8 to make sure that everything works and then go emui 9 by using hisuite 5.0.0.300 and change ip4 dns. Tht should work. I remember on huawei p9 it has to be with an earlier version to be able to pass some main things to the next firmware so you will jot have broken menus. That was upgrading ofc emui 6 to emui 7. I ssume though its something similar

Hi everyone,
When EMUI 9 was first released on Firmware Finder, I've updated my phone with HuRupdate, since then, my phone model has changed from STF-L09C432 to
STF-LGRP2-OVS, since then, I'm stuck with the build 9.0.1.157, even though I've tried many time to flash another update or go back to EMUI 8 but I never managed to do it. I've tried with official recoveries, dload folder and it always failed, I've also tried flashing with TWRP, ADB, HWOTA or even MultiTool 8, but it never changed. Last time I tried flashing Kernel I've got an error saying that the file doesn't match the size or the path of the Partition. Have I done something wrong? Will I ever be Able to go back to EMUI 8? And If I ever manage to do it, Will I be able to receive official updates? I've seen that EMUI 9.1 was released as I saw a Honor 9 Lite with it and I want to upgrade to it as soon as possible
I'd be thankful if anyone can answer one of these questions!
I have Honor 9 STF-Al 10, with the System Emui 9.0.1.179
Due to some bugs, i intend to downgrade to Oreo.
it is said the phone will be hard brick by the method of HuRupdater.
the only way to downgrade to Oreo from Emui9 is Hisuite.
I heard about the HiSuite method, but when I go in the update menu it only tells me that i'm using the latest official version (which is wrong), and it doesn't show me any "switch to other version" button to downgrade the phone

should use the proper Hisuite version on PC (mine is 9.0.2.301)
there is an option to switch to Oreo
I'm using the same one, is it written somewhere which version is the right one or do I have to try and retry each version?

but still no option to switch to older Emui?
Exactly!
Not sure about If I should edit or double post but I thought that it also might be because my phone is Unlocked?
Wow I got exactly the same issue! Also STF-LGRP2-OVS but 162. No chance to downgrade!
I would be also fine with flashing a "normal" L09C432 version of EMUI but don't know how to..
Maybe if someone can post a TWRP Backup of EMUI 8.0 with no user data it could work since we can still have access to TWRP

Firstly I'm gonna try to go back to a normal version, not this OVS crap. Maybe if you go to a normal STF-L09 Rom, Hisuite is offering you a rollback?
I don't even know how to do that to be honest. Shouldn't it be possible just with fastboot and a FF rom?

Be super careful downgrading to oreo because android P has rollback protection. I would recommend contacting HiCare and asking them to put you on EMUI 9.1. Although it's not a downgrade you might recieve and upgrade via OTA

use a dload meant for C432 with a build version superior of the one you actually are.
Try https://androidhost.ru/TTy
use a working SD or usb-otg ExFAT formated
(test for error with h2testw windows app or with f3 osx/linux)
use stock recovery
boot dload mode
So I've seen a few people here complaining they can't install google stuff on their phone because they've upgrade it to the latest EMUI version.
Here's an easy way to downgrade to a previous firmware. This works on the P40 version, but it should work on any P40 variant.
1. Download the firmware of your choice from the web. For the P40 european here's a link (it worked on my ANA-NX9 phone:
https://androidhost.ru/XyS
2. Put the ''dload'' folder found in the zip at the root of a usb stick
3. Attach the usb stick to you phone. I take it anyone knows how to do it. Shutdown your phone. Then press and hold volume up and power button until you get to the recovery menu
4. Select Update mode, then select Memory card/OTG update mode
5. The phone will verify and install the firmware
At this point you'll be able to re-install all the google stuff, no more errors when trying to install the Chinese app. Needless to say, disable automatic firmware updates.
For region C10 is suitable ?

I will answer my own question - Yes, it works with the region c10

Thanks for the downgrade guide @schumimtl
Has anyone (beside schumimtl ) already used this guide with the P40 and can confirm that that the linked firmware really works?
I don't want to brick my phone.
Hi, anyone know where to find firmware for ANA-NX9 C636E6R4P1? I did find anywhere but seems not found. Mostly is the EUR version firmware. Not sure if I flash to EUR firmware, it will cause any problem or not to my device.
Is downgrade deleting any data on phone? Or just changes the soft

Yes, it will delete phone data. It's like you did factory reset.

Thanks for the post. My P40 was downgraded successfully. Now with the GMS installation. So far I have tried 2 methods but was unsuccessful. Stuck with adding google account.
Could anyone recommend a method working on this version? TIA
I have downgraded my p40 c432 form version 147 to 114 using this method (I did by myself I have just found the thread xd).
Phone has been updated to .121
And I have achieved to install GMS following this method

Good luck!

Can you advise the actual files copied in the USB = i am not able to get the phone identify anything from update.zip. I have tried with the zip and update.app at the root as well
Hello
First of all, i know its risky and i don't mind it, because the emui os is totally ****ty. So i was trying to install a custom rom, but i ended up in a big unknowness. Recently I installed a custom rom on a samsung device, but that doesnt compare. My version of the phone is ANE-LX1, having EMUI 9.1.0.392. From what i know i should get an unlock code from dc-unlocker (however i totally don't know how ) and then just type some commands and get to TWRP, but from what i read there are a lot of errors so if anyone is very kind and guides me i will be very happy.
Take care!
Dc-unlocker doesnt work on emui 9. You have to go back to emui 8 to use it. And if i recall corretly you can't use emui 8 dload packages while emui 9 is installed. You can however use hisuite to rollback to 8. Dc-unlocker doesn't work in the version hisuite puts you to. So you have to downgrade little more with dload packages. I unlocked mine in build .125 or something. Just follow any youtube video demonstrating dc-unlocker once you're back in one of the compatible versions. Dc-unlocker is not your only option btw. You can use a tool called potatonv to get your code. With dc-unlocker you mess with software but with potatonv you have to short some pins on your phones board. Software or hardware, choose your poison.
Ok i understand now. However it's not the unlock problem, but after the unlock i don't know how to flash to TWRP. Can you please tell me what to do?
And one more thing @Frax3r . I was planning to install Pixel Experience 11 plus from @-Alf- , and it requires emui 9. If i unlock the bootloader on emui 8 i can upgrade then to emui 9? Thank you

Yes,
- via System (OTA) update,
- via HiSuite & PC
- using dload method & Service ROM (aka full stock ROM).
Ok thank you very much. I'll keep you in touch if something happens.
Cheers
No problem
