Last night my phone started acting up when I connected the USB cable to charge it (connected to PC).. it kept saying the phone is charging slowly so I had to take the cable out and reinsert it multiple times to get it to charge properly.. today when I was charging using my powerbank the screen turned off and when I tried to use the phone it was unresponsive so I restarted using vol - and power. Now when I restart the phone it turns off and only boots if I press vol - and power for 10 secs.. also when I turn it off I cannot turn it back on by pressing only the power button and I have to press vol - and power together to boot.
In the Developer Mode Options.. USB Configuration screen is completely blank.. All I see it "Only Once" and "Always" options with nothing above them.
I cleared cache and that seemed to fix it for several hours (maybe a fluke) but now even that is not working. I upgraded to Pie using LGUP a month ago and did not experience any problems since this. Now the phone is not detecting ANY connections in the USB port (PC connection or wall-charger) meaning I cannot charge it. I do not have a wireless charger on hand to test wireless charging. I tried soft resetting it using the Factory Reset option inside the OS. Made no difference. Cleaned the lint out of the port using a thin plastic straw.. still the same.
Has anyone else ever experienced this? Is the charging port bad? or will somehow charging it using wireless charger (if that works) and then going back to Oreo fix it? Can hard reset work? I had less than 30% charge remaining so I turned the phone off.. will turn it back on in the morning to see if that made any difference.

Update: Hard reset did not fix it.
Update2: Phone charges for a while when I reboot it by pressing the vol - and power from within the OS.. charging normally now and also letting me choose USB configuration mode... will see in the morning if its charged and responsive..

Yes, Qi wireless charging can charge if USB port is messed up.
Yes, hard Reset can fix stuff also.
Rather than PC and powerbanks, I would stay with regular plug wall charger, preferably with QuickCharge 3.0.

I don't think its a HW issue.. seems to be a Pie issue.. I had the AME Oreo on this phone and LG did not release the Pie for the region so I installed the HK Pie on this.. maybe that is the problem and I need to refurb the SW using LGUP again or downgrade to Oreo

I'm in a job where I am mobile most of the time and do not have access to wall chargers.. Have my laptop and powerbank with me at all times though.. Thanks for your help.. :good:
I agree on it being a Pie issue. My V30 is having ISB Configuration problems too - can ONLY detect it to charge, 0 other communication with 3 computers using 4 different cables.
The vol down + power trick doesn't make mine work at all either. Currently I am stuck with a fairly useless Verizon phone because I can't use the damn USB connection on it.

I'm still on rooted stock Oreo firmware because I don't see anything better about LG's Pie. The last Oreo is the most stable.

I wouldn't be on Pie if the phone wasn't already on it when given to me. Seems like it broke USB Configuration on a lot of phone models, but the V30 still hasn't been issued a fix and nobody can explain why not all V30 were affected. Verizon basically told me to go **** myself because I am not a Verizon customer, lol
Fixed it once by reflashing the software using LGUP and now its back again... backing up now to reflash... this is a pain in the backside.. took just 3 months for the USB to start acting up again.. I got the moisture or debris in USB port message this morning.. so cleaned out the USB port and now acting up just like in my OP...

Last night I was using my phone and turned it on sleep due to having <10% battery life left. I tried turning it back on am hour and a half later and it didn't so assumed it drained, so I threw it in the charger but the battery didn't turn on. I left it in the charger over night. I woke up and tried turning it on but it still didn't budge. I tried letting it charge through both my macbook, my chromebook, several different cables and outlets, all for around 10 minutes each. My phone still won't turn on.. Nothing happens when I try to boot into CWM (volume rocker and power button hold method) I now think it may be bricked and I need to get it back to a working condition soon...
My phone is the AT&T SGSII (i777) running MIUI 2.3.7 1.12.30 (newest version) under the Siyah 2.6.3 (also newest version)
Is there any way I can fix this?? I saw somethings about these 'jigs' but is there a way fix it without using a jig and only using a computer? Can someone tell me what could possibly be wrong?? Please help me!!
*PS my macbook can dualboot into windows 7, otherwise my phone wouldn't be rooted
Hmm, LPM might be broken in MIUI.
Try this, I saw one person indicate that it worked:
Enter download mode by holding VolUp + VolDn when inserting a USB cable from a PC.
DO NOT try to flash anything - just let it sit there for 5-10 minutes!
After that, hold Power for 10-15 seconds until the device resets.
Again, DO NOT try to flash anything!
The other option is to find a standalone charger.
And next time - if it's at 10%, put it on a charger!

All the SGS2 i777 phones come with a plugin wall charger, why not give that a try.......
If you cannot find the charger, you can buy one for less than 3 bucks including shipping on Amazon.com

Something similar happened to me, where the battery drained so much that the phone wouldn't charge. When I plugged it into a computer/outlet, it just power cycled because as soon as you plug it in, the screen turns on (pretty stupid actually) and full brightness shows your battery "charging". Due to the phone not being able to directly pull power from the outlet (from what I can understand, if I plug in a charger and take the battery out, the phone shuts off) it can't charge fast enough, due to the screen and soft keys taking up the charge. I may be wrong, but this is what I think is happening.
Only way I could solve this was to plug the battery into my spare battery charger which came with my two spare batteries.
The thing is I can't put it into download mode or even recovery. Whenever I hold the volume buttons together when I plug it into my computer to access download mode, nothing happens and the screen remains blank and off. When I try doing the same thing and also hold the power button also to access Recovery mode, nothing happens, and the screen still is off. Every once in awhile when I try turning on the phone (which is plugged into an outlet) the 'battery charging' screen pops up for a split second and turns off. I have plugged it into Several different wall chargers (all that are Micro USB including the one the phone came with) along with several different Micro USB to USB cables to try to charge in the computer. It's definitely not the chargers nor the cables because they work with other devices. I think my phone is bricked... DX
why don't you buy another battery and see if that works if it doesn't just bring back the battery.....good luck

If the screen EVER turns on it's not bricked.
I suggest leaving it plugged in to a factory wall charger (not USB) overnight.
Worst case you may need a standalone charger to put some "juice" into the battery. I know Staples sells a universal one made by Lenmar, but it's really overpriced ($50!!!!)

If anything, head to an AT&T store and pop the battery out of their test phone and put it into yours. See what happens, sounds like there's an issue with the charger or battery.

Yup ran into that issue a couple months ago and just put it into download mode to charge. easy fix

Thanks for all the help! I ended up going to the at&t store and they told me the battery was defective. The guy was super nice and even though he saw my phone was rooted and had a custom rom he just told me that I probably should unroot only for the warranty but gave me a new battery for free anyway and was very nice about it. I also bought a jig just incase anything goes wrong again. But seriously, thanks to all of you!!
I plugged in my razr before I went to bed. I've been using a HTC plug and cable for the last few months no problems. Woke up this morning and battery was at 5% and then the phone died completely soon after. I plugged it in using my original motorola plug and cable. The dual core screen came up and then the battery level said 0% and it looked like it was charging. It died again after about half an hour. Now nothing will get the phone going. I also tried the hard reset (Power and volume down). The phone is unrooted and hadn't been updated to Jellybean yet.
Any ideas what I can try?

Try using the correct charger and charge it for about an hour, thats the first thing I would try. How long is the htc cable you're using because the longer the cable the slower the charge.
I have tried multiple different chargers with no joy. I think the problem is with the connection. When I plug a charger in the white charging light flashes briefly for a second. I checked the connection for dust and it looks clear?
Try Booting into bp tool or hw diag (hold vol up and vol down then press power should see black screen with white text vol down moves cursor vol IP selects) the phone should charge if left in one of these modes (if you can even make it this far without the bat dying that is). if that don't work could try disassembling then charging the battery directly (never tried this its only an idea try at you own risk)
My xt910 razr maxx has suffered exactly the same fate overnight. Worked fine yesterday now it's dead with the only sign of life from the white led when attaching the moto usb charger. Phone wasn't run flat prior to this. Baffling

Yes I have and no button combination produces as much as a glimmer. I've had the back off and checked the battery for charge, it shows 4.3 volts so it's not that. Something has failed catastrophically I fear.
Check the battery's cable that connects to your phone.If that cable was broke,you can just see the battery level but without charging it.

I've read around this a little now and have invested £3 in a Motorola Factory Cable of fleabay which hopefully will resolve the issue. Due to be delivered next week so I'll keep you posted......
Well got the factory cable and tried it holding the vol down button. Nothing. Took the back off the phone and checked the voltage of the battery 2.75v. Removed the battery and tried the factory cable with vol down. Still nothing. Reinstalled battery and left charging off a pc overnight, this morning it had risen to 2.83v. Starting to think that this phone has had it
Cut the end off a micro usb cable, exposed the wires and connected the red and black to the battery terminals then plugged it into the moto wall wart. Left it until fully charged....volt meter read 5.1v, the output of the charger. Disconnected and checked charge, 4.2v out of the battery.
still dead. Nothing. No red moto screen, no recovery nothing. Something else must be amiss. All I get is a brief white led flash when I plug in the standard charger cable.
anyone have any ideas where to go from here other than the skip?!

I still have a brick which is unresponsive to two factory cables plugged into my PC with and without the battery in.
Trouble is I've got pictures on there I'd like to recover if possible which causes me to persist with this troublesome device!

I access the boot menu by holding both vol up and down, and pressing the power button (hold for ~2 seconds, and release the power button, while still holding vol +/-. Volume down will only send you to APFastboot. Check out the post, I encountered the same problem. The final method I tried was the winner. Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks for that, I'll certainly give it ago when I get a free hour one evening this week. I am concerned though that the factory cable doesn't work, I was under the impression that the phone should at least respond to its connection in some way - it doesn't even when vol-is depressed when connecting to pc.
The only response I get from the phone is a brief flash of the white led as the usb cable (factory or charging) is connected to it.
That indicates that there isn't any power management remaining on the phone, and the battery is pretty weak. You'll need to get the battery charged up manually. After you flash with the last method I used, you should be able to reconnect the battery and charge the phone all the way up before booting. Sounds like you're having the exact same problem I did.

Made the USB charge cable as described (white and black twisted together to -ve, red on its own to +ve). Battery removed from phone, usb on charge cable connected to PC.
5 Volts found at the battery connection terminals. Original Moto Data cable connected to phone then PC. White LED flashed on for slightly longer than before then off. No response from phone - nothing on the screen or vibration with or without any combination of Vol- and vol+.
Battery refitted and charge lead attached to terminals as above to charge from PC. Now reading 4V across the terminals charge lead plugged in, 3.84V cable unplugged so presumed charged.
Still no response other than the brief white LED from the phone with either the Data or Factory cables and Vol-(or any other Vol configurations).

I assume you tried pressing and holding all the buttons, for five or ten seconds, or even a little longer, to try a full reboot. Beyond that, I wish I could help more. I'm slap out of ideas. This was the last step for me (as the solution usually is). The main board might have had it, though I don't have a clue why.

I'm thinking dead mobo too. When it died it did so overnight without provocation - no flashing or tinkering, it was left on the kitchen sideboard and found dead in the morning. oh well I've tried. many thanks for your help:good:

I am not sure if you already watched this video, its for droid razr maxx, charging a dead battery and works perfectly for droid razr too.
My droid razr was exactly in same condition, white light and no charging, did not power up, completely dead.
I popped open the back case, connected the modified usb cable wires to the positive (Red wire) and negative (black wire) ends of the battery and let it charge (stay connected) for one hour. Then i pressed vol up+ vol down + power button. And my phone switched on.
If only your battery is dead, this should work.
I have an s-off rooted droid dna and i went to flash a new rom today(i have flashed a few before) and it failed twice so i pressed restart in TWRP and the phone shut off and nothing else....
i tried plugging it in to a power source, computer and even wireless charger but nothing.
i have also tried to hard restart it every way possible including pulling the battery quick and trying again.
was hoping someone on here might know something I am missing.

By using a pry tool taking off the back and disconnecting the terminal on the lower right side.
I know this might sound like w/e but have you tried just holding the power button down for a long time?

Was the battery very low when you were doing this?
I had something similar (but different) happen the other night. I left the phone on a wireless charger and when I got up in the morning, the phone was completely dead. It's possible that I missed the charger and that the phone simply depleted its battery, there is no know I can tell.
I tried several different USB cables, wall chargers, wireless chargers, computers, and nothing would make it happy. Either nothing changed at all when I attached a power source or else the LED would blink on and off but it never gave me a solid charging light. I tried various charging techniques for 10 hours before I called Verizon for a replacement phone.
Later that night, I put it on a different brand of wireless charger and again it did nothing and finally put it back on my google charger at which point it started charging. It ended up charging just fine after that.
Although, it still wouldn't charge on some combination of cables, USB ports, etc. that used to work and that work with other devices.
I suspect that the charging circuitry is flaking out on the phone and somehow the different wireless charger made it reset some internal state or some other voodoo magic happened.
There isn't any great advice here other than to keep trying different power sources and see what is happening with the LED.

I have tried 4 different charger(Samsung, htc, Googles, and a wireless changer) and i have done the holding power and vlume down.

How long did you let it charge? I'd charge it overnight and try in the morning. If you got the phone from Verizon on contract, go and say the phone just died while charging and won't turn on now. I did that three times when I had a Lucid and I got 3 new ones free...

thanks for the reply and i did charge it last night from 10pm to 12 today and nothing. as for the verizon thing, i bought it off ebay with a cracked screen so i cant do that haha
how long was it disconnected ( i would leave it for about 5 minutes), and once you had it back on did you leave it on a ac charger(and not a qi one) for at least 12 hours? EDIT: just saw post above it didn't load for some reason lol. Dont hold volume down at first hold just power for for about 30-40 seconds the soft keys will flash then keep holding the device till you see white screen(if you get that) then let go and hold just volume down.

i dont get the nav buttons flashing after holding the power button down ( i did it for 2 minutes)
also it was plugged into the htc house charger last night.
the battery terminals where off for at least 5 minutes before this?

Hello friends,
My phone is not at all charging when I am connecting it to a charger. I have tried with different chargers with same result. When I connect the charger, it shows the charging battery icon and it also does not charge when I connect it with USB through a PC. I could charge the battery using another handset and it does charge without any issues on that device. I am totally clueless about this as it was charging normally some days back. The battery does not seem to have any issues and I do not see any problem with the chargers also as the phone shows charging status when connected to a charger. Please help me with this.

When I connect the charger, it shows the charging battery icon and it also does not charge when I connect it with USB through a PC. I could charge the battery using another handset and it does charge without any issues on that device. I am totally clueless about this as it was charging normally some days back. The battery does not seem to have any issues and I do not see any problem with the chargers also as the phone shows charging status when connected to a charger. Please help me with this.

Try boooting into recovery and clearing cache and dalvik cache.
It's also possible that there is dust or lint in the charging port on the phone. If some but not all of the pins are making a connection it is possible to still see the charging animation when the phone isn't actually charging. You can clean the port by blowing into it as hard as you can, and then clean with something llike isopropyl alcohol.
Have you recentlly changed roms or anything?
Go into settings>batttery and see if theres a rogue app or anything which is eating battery. I would think though that if there was an app using enough power constantly to prevent the phone from charging at all, the phone would be getting quite hot.
There's a couple of ideas for you. Try them, then report back and I'll help you further if needed.
As suggested above, try cleaning the USB port. If it still doesn't work then there is a huge probability of USB board gone bad. You can get it replaced cheaply on any mobile repair shop or even cheaper if you want to do it yourself. Follow Keith Ross' guide on USB board replacement.

I have purchased it recently through a refurbished seller...I also have noticed that swipe unlock is also not working and when I am pressing the power button, I am not getting any menu like we usually get with reboot, flight mode, etc. when I press it for a couple of seconds, it will simply switch off. The phone is giving a decent backup once I charge the battery through an external battery charger and as far as the software goes, I do not know if any changes have been made to the rom by the seller...I am not able to boot into recovery also using the volume up + menu button + power button combination...
Can you get into download mode with volume down + home + power?
It's strange for the phone to switch off without any menu..
If you can get into download mode I think the best thing to do would be to install gingerbread stock, and then work your way up until kitkat via ICS and use a custom kernel such as Mackay.
How to return to stock rom...

Hi again,
I experimented installing CM11 and all seems to work fine... I mean the lockscreen and all... but I did not like the camera and I think it is not as good as the stock rom. Can you please help me revert back to the stock rom... what I need to do and what files are needed...
by the way I was going through a link on the internet on odin but my phone is not connecting to odin...is there any way other than odin to go back to stock?

2 days ago my phone received an OTA update. It was the first update after Android 6.0. After update successfully completed, phone stopped being charged (even with wall charger) and not being detected by the PC. I've searched the web and found methods below but none of them worked.
* Draining all charge on battery and charging with wall charger. Connecting the charger to phone by pressing POWER+VOL.UP buttons together. (Notification light turns to blue). This method charges the phone very slowly. Phone turns back to life but battery drains very quickly. I've made soft reset after charging with this method but nothing changed. Phone is not detected by the PC.
* Semi hard reset with POWER+VOL..DOWN buttons (120 second).
* Hard reset with OFF button.
* USB debugging, enabling USB hub detection. Neither worked?
Is there anyone faced this problem? Or any suggestion?
P.S. Phone is very new, purchased couple of weeks ago. No physical damage, not even starches.
Did you unlock bootloader?
send it back for repair.

Unfortunately, I can't access to fastboot mode. I have tried on different PCs, phone is not detected neither in normal nor fastboot modes. By the way, it is not unlocked.

I have the same problem. I tried all thing which I found on the internet but no luck. My phone was unlocked and rooted.
Yesterday sent it back to repair.
Similar problem here. Since original Sony Nougat update, the phone sometime did not recognize charging, usb needed to be unplugged/replugged. But since 3 days this suddenly does not help anymore. Tried 3 different wall chargers and 2 different cables.
Turning phone off and on again with Volume up + power button sometimes helps to start charging.
Phone has original fw and is not routed! No solution yet
EDIT: Found a (very mysterious) solution!
After removing my hardened glass screen protector (cracked due to a fall), the phone did charge without problems! I could reproduce this with a normal plastic screen protector also - as soon as a corner was lifted a little bit, the phone would not charge any more. Cutting said corner off was enough to start charging again.
Whatever wizardry is going on there, I hope my phone accepts my new hardened glass, because I would not want it without any screen protection at all
