Disable app via TWRP recovery - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, I'm having trouble to find respective command to use in updater-script which would disable an application when running installation in TWRP recovery. I'm aware I could remove the app files/folders, but would like to try first disabling it. Is there such an option?

@Rejerf
When in recovery mode, the phone's Android OS and all its services/apps aren't loaded means not running. So no need to disable services/apps.

[Q] keep system app after rom update

Hello fellow Android users,
I am currently using Cyanogenmod 10.1 (nightly) on my GT-I9300, and have this nice app: Cyandelta to update very easy and automatically via TWRP.
Now I'm running into this problem: when I update, I lose this app Secure Settings, that I converted to a system app via Titanium Backup.
The reason I converted it to a system app is because it then gets more functions available that i need. The alternative is installing the "Secure Settings Helper'', but everytime I reboot my phone this ''Helper'' has to install again (god knows why).
My question: is there any way I can get the app to stay on the phone after flashing the update?
I've researched about flashing the APK via a zip file, but it didn't seem easy to do. That way i could let Cyandelta flash it automatically after the ROM. But it would be easier if the app just would retain on the phone.
Thanks

[Q] Stuck disabled app

I've got an app that is listed as 'disabled' in application manager list, but when I select it to try and re-enable the button is grayed out and says 'disable' on it as if it was never disabled to start with.
How do I un-stick this app? TIA
What app is it?
You should be able to use any app or file manager to uninstall it.
Do you have root access?

The basic 'email' app. I had originally disabled that and 'exchange services' way back at the beginning (root required) because I wasn't using anything but gmail and was paring down on apps as much as possible. Now I have a reason to use it, and while I was able to enable 'exchange services' again, the other one just seems stuck. After the update to ICS and then JB I never installed root, and with the OTA updates it seems this particular app has gotten into a bit of a mangled state.

Well you can try installing them again. I'm going to assume you're on the latest 4.1.2 version. So here is the email apk and here is the exchange apk just in case you want to reinstall both.
Or you could gain root access and use an app to unfreeze them that way.
To root the stock 4.1.2 rom
1. Use Odin 1.85 in Admin Mode for Windows users.
2. Install TWRP 2.5 via PDA settings.
3. Reboot phone into Recovery.
4. Install SuperSU via the Zip.
5. Reboot phone and viola You're rooted!. SuperSU is there and works.

Grr. I downloaded the email apk and tried to run it, and it just failed with 'application not installed'. Apparently I buggered myself up good - I'll have to go the root option, any tips/tricks to keep in mind before I do that?

Unbranded Android TV - No android settings app

Hi everyone,
I have an unbranded (sticker brand) Android TV that apparently has a custom firmware with almost everything modified, with the most annoying thing is that they have completely removed the stock Android settings app and replaced it with a custom settings app that has hardly any options. That prevents by from doing even basic stuff such as cleaning app's cache and data. Using ES Task Manager I've verified that they actually removed the settings app and not just the launcher link.
Is there any way I can get the native settings app into the device? Is there any alternative settings app that does a good job? I can install apks from unknown sources but no ADB (no hardware connection to PC).
Also, any rooting advice will also be appreciated but this is not critical. I have no ADB but the Android version is 4.4.2 and not really updated so exploit-based roots may work.
Bump
Hi,
Did you find any solution?
i'm even not able to boot in recovery mode
Try this
Hidden Settings For Android - Apps on Google Play
It can open practical settings which some phone vendors hide for user
play.google.com

This thread's topic is "Android Settings" and NOT "adb sideload" etc.pp.

Installed this app not working, only ads being displayed but no option only white screen in middle

Is it normal TWRP behavior ?

Every time I'm loading in TWRP recovery it asks me if I want to allow write access to the system partition. Even if I'm checking the box that says to never ask this question again.
And when I'm choosing Reboot/System it asks
Code:
"Reboot
Install TWRP App?
{checkbox} Would you like to install TWRP app if not installed
{checkbox} Install as a System app
{button} Do Not Install
Swipe to Install TWRP APP"
Is it normal? I have latest 3-1-1 version installed (and just reinstalled it again)

Disabling apps installation

Hi
Is there a way to disable installing apps (that if you try to install an APK it won't work)?
Thanks
Just found this on a other fourm can someone explain this to me
"Yes, remove the permission to install package to the target user by making the account a managed account, or hook system to intercept installation window and ask for a password or outright kill it. (What you are looking to intercept is probably com.android.packageinstaller.PackageInstallerActivity). Going to intercept route means you may need to block app stores the same way as they can bypass this if installed on system partition. It will still be possible to install over ADB or recovery if left unprotected."
Thanks
