Hi
As I understand the Honor 5x has the necessary hardware for VoLTE (voice over LTE) and Wifi-calling.
Does anyone know if Honor will enable these 2 features in their upcoming official Android Marshmallow release for the Honor 5X ?
I have the Honor 5X - KIW-L21 version and it would be great to have these 2 features enabled.
Perhaps the Honor reps active on the forum can make a recommendation to their development team to have VoLTE and Wifi - calling enabled on the Marshmallow release.
Thank you

@Tasha T Nope its does not come with that update, may-be custom ROM' s may enclose those.
Hello @Tasha T,
I am a beta tester for Android 6.0+EMUI 4.0 update for Honor 5x and I confirm that both of the features are not implemented in the beta release. However I will raise a new requirement to the development team to include both of these features. :fingers-crossed:

Hi pank.dhnd
Thank you for your reply.
It would be incredible if you could put the request forth to the development team to include both these features.
(btw are you using the KIW-L21 version of the Honor 5X ?)
The Android M update is out. Still no VoLTE and / or Wi-Fi Calling support I take it?

Here is he letter I received this AM regarding the MM testing program.
Hi All,
Thanks to your hard work we have decided to release B331 publicly. Within a week you should see the software available on the www.hihonor.com website.
GPS Update:
I received notice from my engineering team that they might have found a fix for this. They will update me tomorrow.
Note: B331 is not the end of the KIWI FUT. We will hopefully be releasing another update. Things to be included in this next update:
- VoLTE for TMO
- GPS fix
- Updated security patches
- Misc bug fixes
Best Regards,
Sean Stitt
UI/UE Feature Director, Technical Acceptance
Huawei Device USA
That's great news regarding VOLTE. Is it possible to reply asking about Wi-Fi Calling? That would make it a 100% compatible TMO device.

That is what VoLTE enables TMO users to do wifi calling and what is being worked on.

What's the problem with the GPS?
Does this mean the other variants of the Honor 5X (eg. KIW-L21) will also get the update that will enable Wifi Calling ?
According to the UK Honor rep (James Pearce) the Honor 5X has hardware limitations that prevent enabling Wifi Calling.
I wonder if Honor in the UK is aware that the Honor 5X does indeed have the hardware capability for Wifi Calling, now that the Honor USA rep has confirmed such a future firmware update.

I do not know about all variants. There are different teams working on the various variants. All I can verify is what they say on the US team.

Thanks for the info. This is the only place where I found some sign showing there is hope for Honor 5X B12 working with TMO. Any ETA on when will we get to try this update? If not the final release, does honor 5x have a beta program?
Awesome to hear about VoLTE/Band 12 support. I pulled the trigger on the Amazon deal today as a stopover upgrade on my Nexus 5.
No word on when it's gonna happen, I have merely been told that VoLTE for TMO will probably be the next upgrade. They just released stock MM (B331) today for the L-24 variant here in the USA.
T-MoWifi calling is sorely missed with Honor 5x. Hope to see it fixed in subsequent updates

Likewise.
Just to clarify, Band 12 support is implied with VoLTE implementation, right? I bought this phone to use on T-Mobile and seeing band 12 on the spec sheet is something that really pushed me to pick this up. There are a band 12 towers going up in my (the indianapolis) area and I was looking forward to getting better coverage than on my Z1 Compact.
I really want to get this phone on TMO. Being they released the B331 in July. Any chance the update with VOLTE will be released anytime soon? I guess what I'm asking is how often do they release firmware?
Out of curiosity, I cross-referenced a list of Snapdragon 616 devices with a list of band 12 devices on T-Mobile. I was hoping that another device would be compatible and we could try examining the radio firmware on it to get band 12 working on kiwi, but it doesn't look like there are 616 devices with band 12 on T-Mobile (assuming that both of those lists are comprehensive). If huawei follows through on their promise to deliver Band 12 and VoLTE, this could be the first device on this SoC to get that functionality.

Hello,
Remember I had raised and enhancement for VoLTE during beta testing for Android 6.0+EMUI 4.0 for Honor 5x? They have listened to it. VoLTE has been introduced on the latest update by Huawei on L22 variant, and should soon be available on others as well Here is the link for the official communication:

I cannot seem to get a straight answer on this. I am hoping someone on this forum uses the Huawei Mate 10 Pro BLA-L29 with the Europe or any branding for that matter on T-Mobile.
Initially, when the phone was released, VoLTE did not work on T-Mobile. The simplest way to check if this works is if you turn WiFi off, make a phone call on T-Mobile, and if the 4G symbol changes to 3G or anything else while you are on the call, it doesn't work. If it stays on 4G, it works.
Since then, Huawei has released the P20 line. They all work with VoLTE on T-Mobile.
So I'm wondering with all the updates the Mate 10 Pro has received, if they have now turned this feature on for US CARRIERS?
Or because they released a US version of the phone (BLA-A09) where VoLTE works on T-Mobile, they may be opting to not turn this on on the international version of the phone as to not undermine sales of the US version of the phone.
If anyone can definitively answer this question for me and if VoLTE now works, please attach a screenshot while on a call with a T-Mobile SIM so I can see.
Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this and helps me out.
I've rebranded my BLA-L29 to BLA-A09 to get this functionality to work because I don't want to unlock my bootloader and change the carrier and buildprop files which would make it work on a BLA-L29.
The funniest thing is when I email Huawei, they respond with "please check with your carrier"... It's not the carrier, it's their configuration file on the phone that either allows or disallows it to work.
Sent from my BLA-A09 using Tapatalk
So here's a feq questions i'd really like to figure out for clarity...
But before that, here are the model details i am dealing with as per subject:
Model: BLA-L09
Build: 9.0.0.168 / C34E3R1P11
EMUI Version: 9.0.0
1. it appears from what i've been finding that Huawei has essentially cut the cord when it comes to Bootloader Unlock codes?
It looks like DC Unlocker and Funky Huawei don't support the model at the moment either.
So has anyone had any success with trying to do this at all?
2. Being that this model has the unfortunate result of having Optus firmware on it (if i had known it was going to be and Optus version i would have found an alternative) ...this does not seem to get LTE reception, at least the phone doesnt seem to think so anyway, can only get 4G+
Has anyone had this issue and has there been a fix implemented?
Thankfully my Aldi sim is working, but i would like to actually get full use out of my service by having full LTE reception.
I believe the phone is physically capable of it?
3. I noticed the sim card slot has the second port blocked out, is this for if it was setup as the dual-sim model, or can this actually take a microsd memory card?
I have seen some conflicting messages on this.
4. Much of all that above clearly seems to rely on being able to unlock the Bootloader and get a different firmware onto the phone, but it's sounding like the Mate 10 series is being left in limbo...
I appreciate all helpful feedback
Guys, I'm in the US for work. I bought a AT&T
SIM card to use and it seems like I'm getting Network data signal intermittent. The data will auto cut off after 5 to 10 minutes. The only way to fix this is to toggle the data icon on and off. I don't know is it related to the latest update of android 10 that caused the issue because when I place the SIM card on Galaxy s10+, it didn't have such issue. Both phones are unlocked ver. Kindly assist.. thanks
Hey... I had the same issue when I updated to emui 10 too on my mate 20 pro. I did everything I could even got a new sim from ATT and that did not fix it. I can pop my sim into my iPhone SE and no data issues.
I agree, there is a software bug when switching between wifi to data or using data for awhile it cuts out completely.
Highly recommend to stick with latest 9.1.350 for the next 6 months lol.
I have region set to Taiwan or UAE to get the emui 10 update fyi. Altho I'm in the US.
Thanks for replying Fong. I really thought I was the only one to have had this issue. So we can conclude that it was the Android EMUI 10 firmware that caused the data network issue problem. I guess now I just need to downgrade to Android EMUI 9 temporary and wait for Huawei to fix this issue soonest with a new patch.
Just to confirm you don't have any data network issue after going back to EMUI 9? If you could, can you share your issue with Huawei as well so that they can rectify the issue.

Thanks
Teezj, no more network connectivity issues back on 9.1. Smooth. I did just report it to Huawei now but being in the US.. I'm not trusting Huawei to do much lol.
I will try out the next 10.x release when available. This time I will do a real full backup locally via the hi suite instead of just Google backup...
FOUND A FIX from the P30 Pro area....confirmed it works for my LYA-L29 in US, with AT&T
https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p30-pro/help/wifi-android-10-t4012977
and
https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p30-pro/help/google-apps-mobile-data-upgrading-to-t4006279
After upgrading to EMUI 10, both threads state the fix is to go to APN settings and where values say "none" or have asterisks (****), delete the values.
Reboot phone, and your data should work when switching between wifi and 4g mobile data.
Thank you for sharing the solution!
Hi All,
It's been a...while since my account registration on XDA. I was a huge WM user since then. I'm checking to see if there is any chances or any masters are modifying magisk for enabling 5G in un-supporting countries. I've been looking around seems no one is testing it. Just asking and following. Thank you.
Regards,
John
As far as i know there is no way to enable 5G in unsupported countries for now. For previous 5G pixels it was a matter of modifying some xml files but these used qualcomm chipsets and modem and here we have samsung modem so maybe it is not so easy. My advice is to do following things to try to force google to enable 5G:
1. Give feedback via the phone.
2. Reply in and upvote the threads with this issue in pixel community.
3. If you are within EU try to write to some EU institutions to explain them that google selectively unlocks 5G only for certain countries within EU which is discrimination as EU is one market.
I hope that this will have effect at some point forcing google to do the right thing and unlock 5G for everybody.
