Hey,
I've bought a G2. After I rooted it, I noticed the "rooted"-status in the downloadmode. I've read about it. I now fear that I can not exchange the unit if something is broken. The warranty is void?
So i tought about to send it back to amazon (14 days time to send it back) and get another phone?! Do you think this is ja good idea or stupid?

I've never rooted a phone before but I read that when you successfully unroot the LG G2, the 'rooted' status goes away.
From what I've read, G2's bootloader is unlocked, so you can root and unroot withou LG knowing it. But take a look to the thread "return to stock".

The problem is, that I can no longer unroot the device, when it should be broken. That is the real problem...

I have reconsigned (returned?... send back... you know what i mean :silly: ) the device. I think I'll buy a Sony. So I have no problems with the root.

hope you don't mess the sony up! the g2 is a far better phone than the sony - if you root, you can unroot and the "rooted" returns to" unrooted" better luck next time
it sounds to me like you have messed your phone up and now you want to send it back and you expect a new one. if I was the person at the other end I would have voided your warranty and if you cant sort it im afraid you should not be flashing anything until you know what you are doing there are far too many people doing this and then returning their phones as "faulty" when basically they messed it up what happens when you do the same to the sony -will u just send that back as well- no wonder manufactures are making it more difficult for people to root in the first place please don't keep doing this as it just makes it worse for the rest of us,who flash stuff and know what they are doing--rant over, hope you take a little time to learn what you are doing in future.

no haha. i think you don't understand me (or i'm to dopy to write understandable english....). the device is not broken. i was thinking about, what could happen, if the device is broken and rooted. i know how to root or flash some rom. that is not my problem. the problem is, that LG has a rootchecker and Sony literally allows the root and flashing roms without unlocking the bootloader. this is why i want to send the G2 back and buy a new Z1.

To my understanding most of the newer devices have indicators buried in the settings to list rooted.
As long as the device powers on you can unroot the LG with the return to stock method and it will show unrooted. You just boot into download mode, and run the tools listed.
If it doesn't power on... then does it matter? It wouldn't be viewable under standard warranty anyways.
Enjoy the other phone if that's your choice, but you made a poor one IMHO.

I don't believe so.
I have the ATT version, and I nuked it with a bad flash and a brain fart that caused me to forget to backup first in TWRP.
I couldn't get anything on the device so I did the restore to stock using the flash tool, and when I was done I'm pretty sure it showed green until I rooted it again.

Ah mine showed rooted but I tried the back to stock for all variants and it didn't work (worked the first time not the second) so then I did the vzw only back to stock and that worked but still showed rooted in download mode.
After the unroot yesterday the "rooted" in the downloadmode was gone too
Hello guys, a few days ago, I rooted my lg magna H500f, but now LG is starting releasing Marshmallow update. Now... I rooted it by King Root, I unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP v2.7 (Or something like this... I'm just sure of 2.x), then I installed xposed obviously flashing it, having android 5.0.1... I haven't touched the Stock android ROM, will I receive OTA updates? And what if I uninstall the framework, and uninstall king root/unroot my phone? If there's no way to update it, can someone try to find the file to flash as an update? I tried with no succes. A last question... Is the ROM "Modified" since I flashed the xposed framework? I mean... I red that if you haven't installed a custom ROM, you might receive OTA updates... but I also red that from lollipop, google disabled OTA updates with ANY customziation, even root... Wich one is true? If it's the first, did having installed the framework modified the rom such as a "Custom Rom"?
You can't have made any changes to the system partition, which both root and xposed do. So you will have to either go through and remove every system change they made or flash a stock rom for the device. Sometimes they are not released by the oem.

If the OEM didnt release them then you cant. It is one of the risks you run when you mess with your device. Most of the time unless it is a major flagship release then they dont post them.

I connected my lg to lg mobile support tool, but as I said I changed the recovery... It finds an update, but if I start it, will it work since I modified the recovery?

No it wont. It will leave you with a bricked device. Welcome to the world of modding. Your best bet will be to wait for someone to make an update rom for your device.

I found a rom, I just don't know how to step back at this time if the flash won't work... I mean... I need 4GB free for a nandroid backup and my SD card can't reach that space... Anyway... just another question... During power off, I can't access recovery mod, my only way to do it, is with quick boot. Is it possible? If it is how do i change it?

I will first state I do NOT own a Moto G4, I own the G3 and the X Pure which are both 3rd Gen devices, but I was requested to write this tutorial by a few users here due to lots of failed root attempts using older "standard" methods that do not work on this device. I also do not like the "one click" root methods, because they can and do fail (KingoRoot will brick a Moto G3/4, regardless of what it's web page says), and when they do people have no idea how to fix it. The manual way is not difficult, and it teaches you how to work on, fix, and use your device on a level above that of the average smartphone user.
I will only cover rooting, the prerequisites are covered elsewhere in detail and I will link to reliable sources for the information. Specifics of the prerequisites are outside of the scope of this tutorial, but are open for discussion in this thread. Remember, I do not own this device although the methods used are the same as similar devices.
Prerequisites:
0) Be running Marshmallow (Android 6.x) stock ROM, at this time Nougat (Android 7.x) is not working via any method.
1) Device must have an unlocked bootloader. See Moto - Unlocking the Bootloader for more info.
NOTE: As of 7/18/2016, Amazon ad-subsidised Moto G 4th Gen devices cannot be bootloader unlocked, therefore they cannot be rooted. Sorry, Lollipop and newer Android security changes pretty much put an end to that.
2) You need to have TWRP installed or one-time booted via fastboot. CWM and other recoveries will NOT work at this time. See TWRP's Moto G 2016 page
3) You need a copy of the latest stable SuperSU ZIP from Chainfire's site on the internal storage or SD card of your device. SR1-SuperSU-v2.78-SR1-20160915123031.zip is the lastest version verified to work with this method.
Note: Do NOT use any 2.77 version, it was a beta intended specifically for the SG Note 7 and will not work, it does not harm but fails to root.
4) Reboot and start TWRP recovery, and PERFORM A COMPLETE BACKUP IN TWRP (Nandroid)!!!
How to do it:
Now, the procedure is the same whether you are trying to root the first time, or you did it the old way just flashing SuperSU and are now not able to boot...
In TWRP, go to Advanced and open the Terminal, in the terminal type this EXACTLY as shown:

Now press enter (there is no confirmation returned), then exit and press the Home key. Go to Install and select the SuperSU zip file you downloaded from Prerequisite #3 and swipe to flash it and reboot. No need to clear caches or anything else but you are welcome to if you wish. You can install SuperSU updates normally through the app going forward (as of this posting).
Why do I have to do this???
For whatever reason, the install script for SuperSU does not recognize that this device (like many others) requires a systemless root installation. By creating /data/.supersu in the TWRP recovery environment, the SuperSU install script parses the file and sees "SYSTEMLESS=true" and ignores what it auto-detects and forces a systemless root installation.
Hope this is helpful to someone!
As always, if this is the first time you have booted TWRP or attempted root... BACKUP IN TWRP FIRST!!! Once the system is modified, it cannot be undone (easily) and you will always have a known good starting place if the worst happens.
EDIT: Photos added showing what a proper command and flash should look like. Note that in picture 1 the exit command is not needed, you can just back out. In pictures 2 and 3 a proper flash of SuperSU is shown, note that system-less mode is specified and the boot image is patched, this is what should occur. It is normal for it to loop once or twice, but that is it, first boot could take 10 minutes plus.
Notes on Nougat/Android 7... At this time this method of rooting does not work properly on the official Nougat ROM for this device, it causes WiFi issues and interface problems (settings crashes, etc) and with no complete factory image there is no work fix other than to restore your Nandroid backup to pre-root status. If you wish to play with this method and try it, your on your own, I will try to assist but as I stated earlier I do not own this device. To my knowledge as of this posting, there is no working root on stock Android 7 on this device.
I can confirm this worked on my formerly-amazon XT1625 16GB G4. You will get an error about not being able to mount /data, but it proceeds and works anyway.
This is exactly what was missing! I rooted as normal with the latest SuperSU expecting it to just work like on other phones/tablets, but yeah. Before specifying systemless, it hung on boot. After following your instructions it booted right up. Thanks!
Also if you setup adaptable storage with your SDcard, so it works like internal storage, TWRP can't find any files on the SDcard. You will need to revert to non-adaptable storage for TWRP to find the supersu ZIP file.
And make sure you're using the latest SuperSU-- I accidentally tried a very old version which did not work!

I should probably be posting this on some noobie forum, but I read Motorola's "Unlock Your Bootloader" and it scared the **** out of me. Can someone give me a ballpark figure of the chances of bricking the phone? (I know this particular phone is new, but I'm just looking for a rough estimate. How common is it generally to brick a phone just from unlocking the bootloader?)
Appreciate this. I miss the old days where it was all simple. Everything was flashable. Never had to flash back to something or re flash.

It's about as common as bring bricked from performing a factory reset, because that is the only part that really does much... So extremely rare, but the possibility is always there. Remember to have patience, the resets and wipes can take what seems like forever.
The dangerous part is what you do after the bootloader is unlocked.

Very nice and just what I needed. Worked perfectly on my Amazon Moto G4 with ads. I got no errors or messages but booted fine-got caught in a boot loop once as the SuperSU file explains after it installs. Boots in less then a minute first time.

I rooted my G4 in the normal way using supersu 2.46, and now boot hangs on the white Moto screen. (advice from another site)
I am waiting for a SD card to update to 2.76 with the systemless command.
Is there anything else I can do in the interim, I tried deleting the contents of /supersu from Twrp and that hasnt made any difference. I have also wiped data and caches.

Can't you just use MTP mode of TWRP to copy the latest SuperSU to internal storage then flash after creating the config file?

I don't know... I don't own the G4 *yet* but possibly in the near future now that I know the Amazon version can have the ads striped out easily enough... I would do a nandorid and try it, if it fails, restore and use the 32-bit version.
Someone else may have a better answer for you.

Well, I was planning on joining all of you with your Moto G4's soon, or possibly the G4 Plus... but since the Amazon version can't be unlocked anymore I got cold feet, and today Best Buy was running a special on the Moto X Pure 32GB edition for $249 (My Best Buy Elite members only), I pulled the trigger on that one instead. No change in helping though, I didn't have the device to begin with so I will continue to assist with this thread as I can.
i have been trying root apps like kingroot ect to root with and without pc and it fails everytime.
does boost have something in these phones to prevent it? yes according to kingroot my bootloader was unlocked when i tried rooting. if it helps my device info is

I think that you should try Kingoroot App or iRoot (if you have a PC of course) to root your LG. I have rooted my own LG L3ii using iRoot, but I do not own the LG Ls755.
Please inform me if you try these methods.

I'm finding that the LG x Power is bullet proof. I have tried every kind of way to root it that I can find on the black mart to the internet and youtube. Nothing seems to want to work. The good news is the phone doesn't brick after a failed attempt. That is my experience only. It may freeze up but still can be turned off and back on again.
So I ask... Is there any working things out there?
I want to learn to code to make a way to root if someone wants to help me? Trying to get info to learn how and linux a computer.
Just got a system update from LG... Wondering if I should hold off on it as long as I can?
Such a sad strange sick world we live in where we have to knowingly attempt to make our mobile computers vulnerable to viruses just to have administrative rights to a system we bought and paid for...

Rooting work with FRP lock enabled?
Hi, I am trying to root my Lg X Power as well. However in preparation of this, I factory reset it, completely forgetting about the FRP.
So long story short, I need some sort of bypass for the FRP lock, or a way to root that doesn't care about the FRP being activated.
Hey I just found a post about it at another page, they claim it works on this model, as well as other versions of the X power, has anyone read about it or try it??

2) smash LG Phone
3) research, research, research
4) buy different phone with working root
In all seriousness, if you can take the phone back do so. LG phones do not root. If unable to return it, hopefully you at least got a good deal. Next time do the homework and buy something with a known root. The days of buying a phone and just rooting it with an all-in-one kit are over.

I don't understand why LGLS755 are so hard to root. I tried for months to root it. XDA can't do it I have tried every root tool myself.

The reason it can't be rooted is because manufacturers and software developers are securing THEIR investment. By locking down devices it increases security measures against malicious attacks from outside sources and software and decreases the risk of consumers reporting vulnerabilities and attacks on their hardware and software due to end-user modification.
While we own the individual hardware with the software installed, we do not own the RIGHTS or LICENSE to the software and hardware. Therefore we cannot claim to be able to do whatever we want with the device just because it's in our pockets.
You want root? Get any Samsung, HTC, Pixel or older LG device. While the same rule above applies, people try harder on them because they are the most popular devices among users and the ecosystem between them is very similar and easily exploitable.
Aside from all that, root and rom developers don't really give many ****s about low-end, stupid cheap hardware anymore like they used to. *Insert related Metallica lyric here*

what? LG phones can get ROOT, its just difficult to do so, and some models can't get it, but not all of them... just unlock bootloader, install the right recovery and then flash super su, of course every phone is different and the procedures may be different

Yeah? Those some models have included the last three that I've purchased. Most of the time a root exists for some European model but not the US model so when I try to do my diligence and research it comes up as having a root method only for me to discover that the method does not actually work.
Your word games to the contrary I think the posts in this thread make it clear that LG phones do not have root. Much easier to write off LG than to keep wasting money on phones that don't actually root. Effectively LG phones do not root.

Hi,
I have the same phone. Lg-sp320 x-charge. On boost/sprint. I have a computer and i can use adb to push files and run a script. I don't know if i need to preform a permanent oem unlock for the bootloader. And im sure i can probably find, well i hope i could find an original firmware. Any help would be a godsend. Thanks.

1)Download patched boot.img from link below
2)copy that patched boot.img to your adb folder
3) adb debugging should be on and oem unlock should be on for unlock bootlooder
4)turn off your device and go into fastboot mode by pressing holding volume down and power key
5) check whether fastboot detect your device or not by typing this command on (cmd) FASTBOOT DEVICES
6) if fastboot shows that your device is connected your good to go
7) you need to boot into patched boot.img for this type a command FASTBOOT BOOT patched_boot.img your device will boot automatically
8) download magisk manager apk from google and. Open ur magisk manager and install ad direct method and reboot
If you get bootloop dont worry just press your power key for 5sec it will boot automatically

Guessing this is for the Indian/Chinese version and the bnd-l24 is still sitting on the shelf? And rooting without making a backup isn't usually the smartest thing to do but we all know that.

I'm... still at a loss to understand why so many people want to root the 7x... Now?
There is an adaway substitute available... ( Search it if you care to ) no root needed.
You can adjust DPI...
You have Themes....
You can remove apps from user view... ( Search it if you care to )
And.... removing unwanted apps WILL NOT free up more RAM.. RAM Management will just fill the allotted space with something else...
You need to make a backup ??? Eh.... Your Stock Software WILL NOT FAIL Unless you are in there messing with it or, are installing illegal apps that are cancering your unit.
Battery Management apps like Greenify? really? how many of you even have to use the Power Saving options already installed in the 7x? I'm getting a day and a half easy.. without using any of the Power Saving options.. YMMV of course.
Oreo is 3 to 4 weeks away.
There still, is No Stock Image Available from Honor to turn to should your Rooting efforts fail you.
So, What possible benefits are you getting by Rooting Nougat Now..

I'm going to Root my 7x as well... once a Stock Image is available from Honor and, EMUI / OREO 8.0 , The Updated Security Patch and Facial Unlock / AR options are delivered.. That will hold me for the 6 - 7 months I'll own the 7x.
I am just so curious why so many would gamble with Root.. with no clear cut method of being able to recover from a catastrophe.... and no real benefit at this time.

Oh I agree with ya. I'm not fooling with mine until a definitive stable method comes out after oreo. I might even hold off until we start getting some custom rooms and kernels. I've unlocked my bootloader and that's about the extent of my Honor 7x modding for the time being.

Have You Tried "Re-Locking" Your Bootloader.. And Then Doing A Factory Reset?
Just asking because.. I thought.. (And I Could Be 100% WRONG) I read somewhere that, relocking using the command line causes the 7x to brick..

No I unlocked the bootloader so I wouldn't have to in the future. Why, bootloader unlocking China cause me to not be able to do ota updates? I was under the impression that only rooting and installing twrp would cause issues with ota but I could've read wrong

Well, I got the OTA in December itself but since I had rooted and installed twrp recovery, I wasn't able to install the update.

Before I went ahead an unlocked my bootloader I checked as many sources as I could about if whether or not I'd still be able ota update and the vast majority of the things I read states that what causes the update to fail is not having stock rom and not having stock recovery. The bootloader being unlocked doesn't modify those or any system files so everything should be fine. Unless Huawei changed things specifically for our Honor 7x then there shouldn't be any problems with ota updates. I guess I'll find out when the L24 people start saying they got updates and I don't receive it or can't install it

Well, that's quite right. I don't know whether Huawei/Honor implemented THAT thing, but yeah reverting back to stock conditions wand applying OTA wouldn't be an issue!
( P.S - I'm stuck here too as I have OTA update since December but haven't reverted to stock to install it. I don't yet know properly about manual installation! )
(I haven't received my 7x yet and I haven't had any recent experience with Huawei OTA updates and I am not advocating that anyone should alter their phones in any way which would void their warranties... )
However, I was surprised to hear in this forum that Huawei has made things more restrictive since the Mate2. Given that you can still obtain bootloader unlock codes (and the only reason AFAIK is to allow you to flash a new recovery) and that Huawei has publicly committed to open-source and has given 7x's to developers, it seems contrary to a "lockdown" philosophy. Rather, it would appear as they are still encouraging 3rd party development to prolong product lifespan in order to attract cheapskates like me who still use a 4-year old phone.
Things may have changed but In order to get OTA updates, here were some of the issues on the Mate2 :
Some people had a difficult time obtaining the bootloader unlock codes. Either you can get a code or you couldn't. Without an unlocked bootloader, you can't flash a different recovery.
You "can't" flash TWRP. That's not entirely true. You needed to restore the appropriate version of Huawei recovery before each OTA, because update.zip can only be interpreted by the appropriate recovery. (Think format differences between CWM and TWRP.)
You were able to root and still obtain OTA. (Albeit, there was only one OTA. The rest had to be downloaded to SD and flashed. But that was okay back then 'cause no one outside of China really knew about Huawei.) The updates weren't checking whether you had modified the existing software or not. Once you've voided your warranty, Huawei didn't care if you then decide to then make your phone more vulnerable or accidentally brick it. The problem was that the update could fail if you remove a piece of bloatware that Huawei decided to update. (The folders would be missing for example. And the update would not recover gracefully.)
But a big THANKS to previous posters which reminded me to backup everything (basically as soon as I receive my 7x).
Oh....if you are flashing a custom recovery, you should also backup the "stock" recovery after each OTA update. Sometimes the recovery is also updated. (That's what I meant by "appropriate" version.)

My thoughts exactly. Why would they provide they website to unlock the bootloader if that kept ota updates from going through. The only thing that's really holding back the development of this device is Huawei hasn't released the full stock firmware package yet. I have the L24 version so it's exciting seeing L21/A10 making some progress because it's only a matter of time until things start to kick off all around.

People like to root and mod their own devices for their own reasons but you're right, a lot of the reasons I modded past devices was because the roms almost always ran better than stock but the 7x imho runs great. Used to be kernels for better battery life and such. I like custom roms because I like to be able to do certain things that stock roms limited as far as customizing goes. A lot of people hate bloat and end up deleting every file on the phone that isn't necessary or to their liking to make the rom as minimal as possible.
But as of now I'm happy with the phone and don't feel the urge to need to root and and a custom recovery. The roms that eventually come would have to offer something worthwhile to flash. But hell, that's subject to change given how I'm feeling that day lol. There's a new AOSP based rom in another thread that sounds promising

I assume that you already know this ... but I should mention it for others that you can run TWRP (if there is a version for one's phone) without flashing it. (I don't have my 7x yet, so I prob really shouldn't be trying to give detailed instructions anyways.) From there, you can make backups of the stock image, stock recovery, etc. (So thx again to this forum for reminding me that I should backup all stock images as soon as I receive my 7x so that MY fingerprints are not all over the backups.)
As to rooting, there ARE at least 2 things that Huawei hasn't provided without root:
Yes, I can make app backups (and/or use the Huawei "easy transfer"... not sure what app that is at the moment) but I'd assume that I won't be able to transfer it to a non-Huawei device. That's why I continue to use Titanium Backup.
USB Mass Storage Enabling (and by extension Selinux Passive mode). I want fast transfer to my desktop, etc.... and I want a drive-letter (yes, there are Win programs which only work with drive letters). Without UMS, I haven't found a way to do that.
